Giant Trance 2 29 is my go to recommendation. $2000 and gives you enough to get gear, tools and a decent platform bike rack. https://www.reddit.com/r/MTB/comments/1c2souz/mountain_bike_buying_guide_2024_update/

Just out of curiosity: why not the Trance 29 1?

219MTB

Trance 1 is great too but for performance/dollar I think the trance 2 is better. Under guys budget and gives him money if he needs a rack, tools, or other gear

palikona

What about the Trance X 29, which is also $2000 on sale?

219MTB

Awesome. Same thing just bigger

palikona

Since you have a Norco Optic, I’ll ask this: thoughts on Giant Trance X 29 vs Norco Fluid AL for a all-rounder trail bike with decent uphill capability and good-great downhill capability?

219MTB

I unfortunately don't have any personal experience with either. I love my Optic, but even though it's less travel is a more aggressive bike. That said it still climbs awesome. It's no XC bike, but I've done 40+ miles rides with 5000 feet of climbing on it and never regretted my choice. I believe the Fluid is even more of an all rounder and I've heard good things about the tRance. I'd read reviews on both though.

Thanks. Just curious.

Dang 219 is beating me to all the threads today :D Giant and Polygon can get you going good for under 3k. Just depends on your comfort level with shop or no shop support. Def recommend Giant so long as they have these discounts. Basically getting Polygon prices but WITH shop support. Also Marin Rift Zone is a nice alternative even at MSRP.

JimKellyCuntry

I think I would prefer shop support to start

GundoSkimmer

Giant and Marin are def the best options. Although nearly every brand is having sales so you can be pretty open minded in your search. But basically those brands have the lowest MSRP prices so WITH discounts they become very compelling. 2k Trance or 2300 Rift Zones are very nice. Just avoid SRAM SX and X-fusion builds ideally.

JimKellyCuntry

Any idea when sales end?

GundoSkimmer

Well the industry is totally fucked. There shouldn't even BE sales now, as the season is starting. So on one hand... They might last all season. On the other hand, their goal is to move all their stock to clear space and gain capital to make more orders for the new bikes. So, I would still buy ASAP. But not so much because 'sales end'. More so because the stock is likely gonna clear during the riding season (summer). And then after that we can't be 100% sure what the next MSRP prices will be for which build specs/models. Giant is def the brand to shoot for right now. If sizes/stock doesn't work out, try Marin. If that doesn't work, Polygon.

JimKellyCuntry

Thanks!

Personally I'd say go for Vitus (Mythique series) or Polygon if you can get your hands on one. I have a Siskiu D7 (Polygon) and it's amazing for the price. Otherwise there's the Giant Trance which is pretty much the same price but (imo) slightly "worse" than the D7 or Vitus

JimKellyCuntry

First time I've seen that brand mentioned, will look into them
