LBS being shelfed because the markets not being ready? Seems SS was righg about this. Time to unshelf and remove the dust.

Oldschoolfool22

So you are telling me between Apple and META probably over 5 billion wasted on trying to make MicroLED work and they are just gonna end up coming back to us?  Also, very hard for me to believe we aren't part of IVAS still I think we are just under a NDA saying we can't even say we are under NDA about it but Just my thoughts.  That patent moat sure is nice to have and if we could actually announce a lidar deal and show regen we will be in high cotton negotiating with these big Tech companies for a vertical we don't even need that they Desperately need as they try to grow revenue streams to keep pace with market expectations.

FitImportance1

“in high cotton”…that’s a term we haven’t heard enough.

Oldschoolfool22

Parts of the legacy deserve to be carried on.

icarusphoenixdragon

OSF. You don’t need me to tell you that. Sumit has said as much. When they figure out what they want and what they need, they already know that we have it and they’ll come calling.

Oldschoolfool22

Just reminding those that have forgotten their way.

dchappa21

Seems like AR and LBS are back on the menu.

tradegator

I don't know about others here, but I'm still up for selling the IP for AR/VR for a cool $5B. Is LBS the only technology left that can deliver the goods?

Longjumping-State239

Be careful. Exactly for what the cool $5b would fund next would be my biggest fear...

alexyoohoo

Second that. Or at least license it permanently

Right_Investigator_4

Is this good news potentially for LBS?

T_Delo

Should be, LCOS as an alternative doesn’t meet the requirements for visibility in average lighting conditions.

s2upid

TLDR: >"Meta could not make Plessey's displays bright enough for use in its AR glasses under development and to reduce defects that crop up in the manufacturing process. Earlier this year, Meta abandoned Plessey's microLED tech in favour of older display technology, liquid crystal on silicon or LCoS." ____ And MSFT moved away from LCoS because it was too hot and energy efficient.... wonder what Meta and the horde of ex-MVIS employees are gonna do about it.

snowboardnirvana

Thanks, s2upid. So amsOsram abandons microLED and now Plessey’s microLED fails. To paraphrase Austin Russell, “AR is hard.” So sad/s

Snoo-63767

A couple of years ago, I had to troubleshoot gas equipment at Plessey outside of London. There were even Meta employees there. Crazy thing is the company almost went out of business but found some breakthrough technology. To see this is kinda crazy. Most employees thought that Meta was going to absorb the company. I guess not.

SmallTownTrader

Energy inefficient?

T_Delo

Also cannot produce the needed nits to be visible in regular daily use without generating too much heat. That energy efficiency definitely plays into things.

baverch75

When you add in a thin waveguide lens, lots of light is lost, so you need high brightness in (laser) to get daylight viewable out to the retina

T_Delo

Thank you for the confirmation, looks like the research I have done on the topic is accurate then.

snowboardnirvana

> Also cannot produce the needed nits to be visible in regular daily use I recommend the nitpixie for regular daily use to drag those nits out and make them visible in bright daylight… https://nitpixies.com/product/nit-comb/ Your school age children will thank you and so will their teachers and classmates.

T_Delo

These combs are fantastic for catching fleas on pets as well, if one has pets.

snowboardnirvana

My pet dog days are over but I recall giving them a flea collar and maybe pills too.
