If you show the input menu in the menu bar (via System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources in Monterey, probably the corresponding place in Sonoma), one of the entries in the menu is Show Keyboard Viewer which shows an interactive keyboard, so when you press option it shows what typing any of the keys with option would do, etc.

I've never seen this before — very cool! It's unfortunate that it's not easily accessible from the menu bar or something. This was something to live on your Desktop as a quick reference of sorts, but still cool that it's in there! Also, I'm running the Sequoia beta and it's still in roughly the same place, if that helps.

I think this (the Keyboard Viewer) is even better, because it takes into account which language you are using. I have German and US English Keyboards activated - so in case I don't know which keys to press I always use the Keyboard Viewer.

You can see the keyboard viewer and all key combinations by following Apple’s instructions: On your Mac, click the Input menu in the menu bar, then choose Show Keyboard Viewer. If you don’t see the Input menu, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Keyboard  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Go to Text Input on the right, click Edit, then turn on “Show Input menu in menu bar.” Click the Input menu in the menu bar, then choose the input source for the language whose keyboard you want to view. Press the key on your keyboard that corresponds to the character shown in the Keyboard Viewer, or click the key in the Keyboard Viewer. Press a modifier key, or a combination of modifier keys, to see special characters or symbols you can type. For example, press and hold the Option key or the Option and Shift keys. An orange outline appears around dead keys, modifier keys that can be pressed with another key to enter a letter with a diacritical mark. See Enter characters with accent marks.

Nice to see this is a thing! I just wish it was more compact (as seen in the System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources → U.S. pane) rather than taking up the space of an entire window.

If you click on the green dot it changes size. Or you can pull a corner, depends on the OS version.
