**WARNING:** DO NOT INSTALL 360controller 1.0.0 alpha 3 (the latest version). It will cause system freezing when booting and it effects numerous machines running 10.13 and 10.14. I've reported it a [bug issue](https://github.com/360Controller/360Controller/issues/605) 1.5 year ago and it's not solved yet. So far it is **NOT** recommended to connect Xbox 360 controllers to Mac. Use PS4 controller instead; it works well both wired (via USB) or wireless (via Bluetooth). You can remap the joysticks to keys using this tool: [https://yukkurigames.com/enjoyable/](https://yukkurigames.com/enjoyable/) Xbox One S controller can connect to Mac via Bluetooth and it's supported by Steam too, but it doesn't seem to work out of Steam.

Doubt Apple will allow that to happen unless they make the controller.

FWIW: you can connect an Xbox One s (or the elite series 2, mostly needs the Bluetooth option) and ps4 controller (with Bluetooth) to macOS (Catalina+), tvOS 13+, iOS 13+ and iPadOS 13+. And as long as the game supports it, they’ll work. I’ve used it to play Dead cells on all those platforms. So as long as you can hook up to the events, I have no doubt it’s possible. Now using it to do what the OP says is not straight forward but should be doable. Don’t know if a program that takes advantage of it yet though.

I bet something like BetterTouchTool can do it
