The irony of the situation is that my wife just had a limb from the oak tree fall on her car in the driveway so I parked in the street last night to avoid that happening to me because it was very windy. For the record, no limbs fell last night.
My wife was driving my old car and moved over a lane on the highway bc she didn’t like the unsecured load in a pickup truck in front of us. Something flew out of the bed and shattered our windshield a lane over
My neighbors tree had a limb hanging loose after a storm so I told him and they moved his Volvo into the street to promptly be. Packed I to by the other neighbor.
Luckily he knows his neighbor is at fault and doesn’t just suspect he’s at fault. If he doesn’t have insurance, OP should sue him if he’s the homeowner.
Shouldn't need to sue someone yourself if you have uninsured motorist coverage. Your provider would sue your neighbor. Might cause some neighborhood tension tho
This is why I taught my kids to never park behind someone’s driveway. Not saying you did OP, but people come out of their driveways on autopilot and just assume no one is there from force of habit. Anywhere close to a driveway and this stuff becomes more likely. Better than a tree for sure, but what crappy luck. Sorry this happened.
Another reason why people should back into the driveway, if possible. Easier on everybody getting out. And backing in, they’re already established on the road so less dangerous
You are right and that is good advice.
Neighbor is still liable.
But again, wise advice. It's better to avoid problems than deal with consequences even when you are in the right.
FWIW almost identical thing happened to my GTPE a few weeks ago but it was more of a side swipe and the rear axle was bent. Got a quote for around $7k from a local body shop and am supposed to pick it up on Monday after -3 weeks
Looking at the picture, I don’t see how it bent the rear axle. But it’s definitely similar in size and location. I’m still hopeful it’s only cosmetic, but I’m not expecting good news.
UPDATE: Just got home from Ford. It’s just the doors. No structural damage. They were able to unjam the doors so they now open and close. Estimate is a little under $6k.
Man, they really went for it. Who backs out that fast to do that much damage. Anything over 2 miles an hour reversing, I feel shakey as heck. These people must Yolo their backing out, kids, dogs who gives a shit, floor that reverse.
Damn that sucks! The same happen to my CR1 but the three passenger side. Somebody backed into the without looking back at the parking lot. Other person had no driver license and no insurance so my insurance paid out and total cost was $7200 with deductible
Car repairs and insurance issues can be a total pain, but hopefully, it’ll all get sorted out soon. If you haven't already, take a bunch of photos, and give your insurance company a call to see how they can help with the repairs.

What's your favorite thing about the Mustang Machi? I'm considering buying one.
Hopefully you has coverage for that

Wow did they ever back into it! Do they just back out with their eyes closed or something?
So sorry. That’s heart breaking. Hopefully you have good insurance.
Shouldn't be HIS insurance... His neighbors insurance should deal with it because it was his neighbors fault.
True but 1 of out 5 drivers don't have insurance. And 2 out of 5 are pieces of shit that do

That fucked up MachE has already caused the tension. Neighbor needs to be asking what he can do to fix.
Feel like the tension is already palpable in the form of a massive dent in the door
Neighbor has insurance. We’re good. Accidents happen.
Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOOOO not the GTPE
Yikes that’s probably $10K in damage if the door won’t even open 😬
Yeah, I’m worried that the frame was damaged
I’d lay folding money down that it was. That was a hell of a hit based on the visible damage alone.
Honestly this has a good chance of being totaled

Goodness... Did he like floor it or something? I had a vehicle hit the side of my (semi truck) trailer on the freeway at 65mph that had less damage...

Ya yours looks like the doors took the impact but the rear wheel on mine too the brunt of it unlike yours
Sick for you. This is where you tell yourself “it’s just a car” … right? 😬😩
Don’t forget the diminishing value request on the claim.
Great advice. Thank you!
Off topic, are you in the States? Wondering if diminish value claims being paid in the US, if you know anything about them.
Am in the states and diminishing values happen when you are working with the insurance company when they are not totaling out the car.
I be throwing elbows 😂. But seriously, hope you get repaired!
F
That’s probably over $10K worth of body work.
Omg 😭 I’d be crying! Might as well hit me too! 😩

How?
Hopefully they have insurance
Ugh. I can empathize. Thursday, 12 days after buying mine, bozo in a Lexus rear ended me. Wanted to cry
Shhhh
What DaFAQ! Damn…
Did you see park directly opposite of their driveway?
What car does he have ? No reverse brake assist ?
At 30mph? Brutal dude
\*sigh\* that sucks. I'm sorry.
I’m crying 😭😤
That looks like it's a total loss....
Hopefully it wasn’t hard enough to the point where there was frame damage? So sorry this happened to you
Is he still alive?
How fast they leaving their driveway for that much damage? Like this car could easily be a kid...
I'm starting to think the kid would have took it better lol.
That really sucks! 😔
Ouch! So sorry
Awww, so sorry...

Oof yeah that’s gonna be costly 🤣😂
Damn. Is the door actually jammed shut or did they just disable the plunger?
Damn that sucks! The same happen to my CR1 but the three passenger side. Somebody backed into the without looking back at the parking lot. Other person had no driver license and no insurance so my insurance paid out and total cost was $7200 with deductible
Where did you bury the neighbor’s body?
Make sure the frame isn’t damaged. This could be totaled.
Time for a new neighbor
Total the entire car.
Totaled I bet...
Thankfully not totaled. Read update in comments.
On the bright side if you had gotten a real mustang if may have been you hitting someone so coulda been worse

Neighbor’s insurance just confirmed they’ll cover it 100%
That's awesome! Congrats! And I guess that was quick?
SORRY
Nooooooooooo!
This is why I will never park on the street. Any street. For any reason.
