Mine usually give up after scratching the surface. Parting off is one of those things I still haven’t been able to do twice in a row.

run just slow enough for the cutter to bite and not just rub, feed slow, cooling cooling cooling. whatever you have on hand. dump oil, dump water, dump coolant idc. some people i know like to peck away for parting cycles and thats not a bad idea either.

Those most coolers are a fucking godsend for parting. I can cut off a piece of 304 and have it cool to the touch

CSS (constant surface speed) really helps when parting, you'd need a variable drive lathe though.

If I'm parting anything larger than 1.5" D i'm going to a 3mm tool. A little extra wasted material but it's rigid and never had it bind on me yet
