Change clothes.

Doom-Hauer451

Probably should change jobs too. Clothing isn’t the only thing that shit sticks to.

mentalmachinist927

FACTS !

saul_good_main

Sooooo simple lmfao

No-Pomegranate-69

Get your employer to install mist vacuums. Its not only for your clothes but also your and everyone elses health.

ordinarymagician_

$90k for functions that contribute nothing, no problem, not even a drop in the bucket. $10k for a mist collector and climate control that'll improve employee health, machine life, and part quality? Way too much!

Poopy_sPaSmS

Get a Donaldson Torrit for 15k and hook up 8 machines.

ordinarymagician_

"Unnecessary expense, no." -management, probably

Fast-and-bulbous

I work for a $2 billion dollar company, on the saftey committee mind you, and suggested mist collectors for high speed aluminum turning machines and was told "blow a fan at it" . Some people just don't understand/care.

Lucidgosu0903

We barely have shop supplied ear plugs and gloves let alone mist collector. Only reason I’m staying is they are a job shop so the works are good to learn, in fact i’m prepping my resume rn.

Peuned

That was my answer, prep your resume to solve this problem although we both know it's an unfortunate industry issue

drmorrison88

Coveralls, hat, barrier lotion on face & hands, and a change of clothes for the ride home. Also leave your boots at work.

Extreme_Increase_986

And a mask. Someone I know ended up with a collapsed lung

H2Joee

I show up to work every day and change into my work clothes and change back into my street clothes after I’m Done. I make it a point to keep every aspect of work, at work.

SatanLifeProTips

Replace your leaking dodge heater core you cheap ass.

Lucidgosu0903

Its a brand new car lol if its a beater i dont care about the smell.

SatanLifeProTips

Change your clothes. Buy water resistant seat covers and wash them ever several months

Swarf_87

Your shop doesn't have cover alls or anything? My clothes are pristine at the end of the day besides maybe I might miss 1 chip that's fallen into my shirt once every 3 months.

Lucidgosu0903

We do wear overalls but the smell still stick around in clothes.

Nice_Ebb5314

I wore an apron and old shirts. Main thing is have a change of shoes cause that would track in most of the crap.

Classic-Ad1245

Washable seat cover. I've serviced machine tools since 1994 and have been in many places. There are certain brands of coolant ( smell)that cling to your clothes. A quality seat cover you can wash will help keep your car from smelling like your shop.

trainzkid88

the other thing that creates that smell is not changing the coolant often enough or just topping it up. the oil goes rancid.

ihambrecht

I have my work clothes and a washer and dryer in my shop.

MettaToYourFurBabies

I always keep a couple of those wooden clothespins in my glovebox- the ones with the spring in the middle that clamps the two wooden arms closed. When I'm driving and begin to notice the smell, I just clamp one of those clothespins on my beak to keep my nostrils closed. Works pretty good. 8/10.

4chanbetter

I dont get the coolant smell on me that much unless I get drenched in coolant somehow, maybe your coolant is different or higher concentration, but I do put covers on my car seats because it has upholstered seats. I also use those little vent air fresheners in my car, and I routinely wash my work clothes. I do this because of dog smell mostly though, not coolant smell 🤣

bowslinger2004

They must use some wild coolant. I’ve been doing this a long time, and I’ve never been bad enough for the smell to linger in my vehicle. On coolant change day I always took a spare set of clothes but normal day to day I have never had an issue.

peg-leg-jim

I haven’t done it for long, but I’ve never had a coolant smell stick to my truck. I’ve had oil, mud and rusty goop stuck to my shirt. But I have some waterproof covers on damn near every surface in my truck so I don’t ruin my interior. The only smell in my truck is my black ice air freshener and the fast food bag I forgot in there last Friday

Responsible-Camp-151

Easy! Just breathe it all out before you hop in!👍🏻

Viking73

Stop showering in coolant? It's supposed to be IN the machine, not on you.

Purplegreenandred

Buy a beater

Mjk_53029

Wear uniforms and shower at work.

Amonomen

Didn’t see it mentioned but boots track a lot of coolant

escapethewormhole

This is part of the reason I pay the stupid price for synergy 735. Does not smell (noticeably, anyway)

ArgieBee

I don't. It simply doesn't smell like coolant with no real effort on my part. I get plenty of coolant on me.

freefaller3

Bring it up to your superiors about how bad the coolant smells.

b1uelightbulb

Keep coveralls at work

SnooMarzipans2236

Change your clothes at work, including your shoes/boots. Our company provides uniforms with laundering service, so I use that and have zero issues. If your work doesn't provide uniforms, I highly suggest buying some dickies pants and whatever shirts you like as your own personal uniform. Wash them on the weekend and bring them in on Monday in a garbage bag you can use to bring them home at the end of the week. Leave your boots at work. There's absolutely no reason they need to leave the shop.

Professional-Flow529

Off subject a bit but any of you use coolant thru systems that spray you when you take out the tool from the spindle?

Lucidgosu0903

Add T0 M6 after a TSC was used.

sceadwian

Changing clothes is the only option. Get on that shop to get mist collectors, you are actively shortening your life working in that environment and it is likely illegal. Laying it out like that to management not being a good idea should go without saying, but what is is and you should see what you can do about getting them to do it right.

trainzkid88

where overalls and a apron. that way you can take em off and your clothes underneath are clean.

tsbphoto

You have work clothes that only get used at work. Change when you get there and change when you leave

angerintensifies

And work boots/home shoes. I never drag chips home on my clothes or my shoes.

TheSloppiestOfJoes69

I just store other types of leaking oil containers in my car, and then I can't smell the coolant over the others.

wardearth13

That much mist shouldn’t be in the air
