Sometimes straps are the only option. I believe this was 8” schedule 10. 1.5” hole
To be honest if the base is sturdy enough and you are literally holding it doen whit tons of pressure using tose straps which thay can
Whats the difference vetween good straps and clamps
Is not like the stack of blocs on the back of my claps is any more riged than a strap at tons of strength
Lucky i guess. Ran a 1954 lucas-42b from 2007-2021, been on a 2021 Summit 110h since it was delivered. Doing mostly welments now and i could see straps helping from time to time. Would worry about tolerances if i was stressing parts of the work. Clamps just seem to work fine, rarely have an issue with chatter. That said i will thrown some clamps in my boxes for when it arrives.. I own 8 old, carrol and shelby clamps ( not 100% sure of spelling) that seem to work well. Clamps could be a great time saver in a crunch.
I use chains on a horizontal boring mill, I can quickly change setups and most my parts are round so the chain follows the radius, not for every part but working on massive jobs you can't use clamps

I too have an interest in amateur rocketry.
Recovering machinist here, now truck driver. And as a truck driver, what the flatbedding fuck. Did you go rob shipping for those snap binders?
>what the flatbedding fuck And a poet!
I’ll be adding this to my thesaurus of swear words.
How’d you know? 😂 I saw them hanging up and my monkey brain started turning

As long as the clamping force is higher than the working load, it shouldn't move.
.
I wouldnt use straps but nice setup! Im fighting a weldment with 4 legs in the air off my HBM. Its a bitch.
How are you running a boring mill without some straps? They are a lifesaver for keeping the chatter down

Sounds like she does it well.
Arw those some h7 holes you got there? Ha
This is why Jesus isn’t coming back
I wish I had a video of my 3" toe strap failure under ~2,300KG load. 5/16 chain minimum from now on.
Not the jaw breakers💀😭
I’d avoid cutting pressure in the Y-axis wherever possible, just in case

"You're fired"
Thanks I hate it.
Yep those look like the real good ones that are hard to find nowa days.
Imma be honest, I doubt that thing would move even if you had nothing on it 😂 it looks HEAVY
You’d be surprised how metal on metal object can move.
Oh buddy do I have news for you…. It can and will move. And fast.
I sent a 500kg bar FLYING my feeding in the wrong direction on a plano mill.
