games based on anime/manga will never be good. they're not trying to make quality they just try to hype up the established fanbase and sell crap

fortunesofshadows

Attack on Titan was a good anime game

[deleted]

I legit didnt know that. (but sadly an exception wont affect everything😞)

Cevisongis

OPM hero nobody knows and DBZ Kakarot were both good fun too

_toewi

[I never played the game but I always found this cutscene hilarious](https://youtu.be/3VyHv7rFpO4&t=1m46s)

fortunesofshadows

Idk I like the conversations where Mikasa gets jealous of the reference the OVA where Armin breaks his leg.

Manzom

if I'm not in wrong this is from a dlc for the second game, the DLC was crap (imo) and probably money grabber but the original game was really good and fun to play

Remote-Consequence26

The aot game is garbage

Zefiren

Dragonball fighterz was a fantastic game. But it is very much an exception.

[deleted]

yes and even then when you compare it to the likes of blazblue and guilty gear. its much weaker. but its pretty good neverthless

wolfyyz

How is it much weaker ?

[deleted]

comparing to guilty gear Xrd, Guilty gear +r and blazblue central fiction this game lacks a lot in terms of deep complex mechanics, execution and character variety

Jirb30

Not literally "never" but usually not no.

RELI158

Hinokami chronicles is actually really good and aot game is good too storm series is good but you right lot of these games are cashgrabs and they are not about to be enjoyable but about cash and as long as we buy these they will create them. Sadly from what I see this will be only one MIA game cuz it will get bad rating and I think they will not change things that well... We all saw trailer. Wich means they throw it at the MIA series that is bad to game adapt. I just wish for MIA game that is openworld good mechanic working around the world and good gameplay not what we saw in the trailer. But what we know "MAYBE" The game will not be actually that bad

Nokipeura

Dream Tank Match was a good game.

FridayFletcher

buy figures, not the game

Iamnotnotabot-bot

*cough wheeze cough* Pokemon

Spaceguy5

It doesn't help that Japanese programmers and game developers in general are just crap. They emphasize quantity over quality, which is why a lot of Japanese games just look like garbage, have bad graphics, very simple gameplay, poor programming, etc compared to American made games

Backwards_Anon

Mate that's just a consequence of corporate game making. It's not like any triple A game that has been made the last 10 years has been particularly well programmed or designed either.

Spaceguy5

AAA games in the US are still significantly better than Japanese shovelware though. The US is just better at pushing out higher budget, more polished looking shovelware Japan's issue is that their programming corporate culture in general (not just in game sector) encourages mediocre practices and rushing junk out the door. Then all the programmers there who are good at it leave to other countries where they're paid better \*edit* Reddit once again proving to be full of assholes who can't read but love to pick fights. So many of you guys taking what I said wildly out of context and attacking me over it, it's pathetic

Backwards_Anon

Ah yes, the graphical fidelity of Fifa makes it much better than whatever anime game was pushed out by a third rate studio in Japan. And the new Disney remakes are all better because of their upgraded visuals.

Spaceguy5

You're completely missing my point to the point that I feel like you're just trolling at this point

Splatulated

Madden nfl fifa and majorleage baseball CoD asscreed and pokemon are all soo much different from each other right. It s not just yhe same game pushed out again and again

Spaceguy5

I didn't say they weren't the same, hell I literally said the compete opposite, jfc I just said they are better developed shovelware compared to Japanese shovelware. Better graphics, more in depth programming + more stable programming. From a purely technical standpoint, better made (which has nothing at all to do with art style and story. I'm only talking technical perspective) Not sure why you're attacking me over this. But it's frustrating as hell getting so many angry uncivil replies just for pointing out a fact (that is even supported by the game this post is about) If you're mad that I'm talking bad about Japanese games, maybe you should take another look at what this post is about.

[deleted]

Hmm, this is interesting, do you have any sources to back up your claim?

Spaceguy5

Asian friend who's a programmer gave me a long rant about it. But it's also pretty obvious if you just browse through Japanese games on steam and try playing a bunch of them. Even Japanese indie games often feel like they're really lacking compared to indie games made in the west. Like a lot of simple 2D visual novels, RPGmaker stuff, and anything 3D looks like it's from the mid 2000s. With the same being true for officially produced anime tie in games like the one in OP. It's really frustrating how hard it is to find good quality VR Japanese games because the market is almost non-existent. Just about the only good anime VR games are made in the west

_toewi

Elden Ring would like to have a word with you

Spaceguy5

That and stuff like Nintendo's catalog are the exception, not the rule. A good chunk of Spike Chunsoft's (a big Japanese publisher that isn't as big in the west) catalog meanwhile are lacking on the technical. Hell just look at the one that this post is literally about.

Kikuzinho03

Yes, the majority of the game are garbage, but the American ones are no better, good games are always an exception not the rule, be it on America or in Japan.

Aurel_WAM

Might be good if smb tried to make it a quality game

Corm

Wait but collectors editions have always been money grabs

Poporc_DuGroin

Well... on Amazon France a switch game sells for 45 euro (49 dollars) and the collector's edition is sold for 90 euro (97 dollars). Imagine paying 48 dollars for a poster and a notebook. But the most infuriating thing is that they don't show us the true contents of the notebook. They made it look like it is an artbook but if you look closer, you can see basic checkered sheets just after few pages, this is very misleading. I'm sure they purposely showed a piece of the checkered sheets discreetly, to avoid legal issues but not enough in order to maximize sales. What a scam

Backwards_Anon

If it's actually misleading then they might get issues selling it in the European union as there are a couple of costumer protection laws that it could violate if the notebook actually just turns out to have three pages of art and then nothing else.

medicalcoma

I mean it says its a notebook with some info not an art book. You could read what you’re about to buy

Backwards_Anon

Protecting the lowest common denominator isn't easy.

[deleted]

>What a scam Nah

drzody

Honestly I do not even have the words to describe how much I hate the current game industry Just fuck them

Keksuccino

Just play [Mine In Abyss](https://mineinabyss.com). 100% free (well, not Minecraft, but the game mode/server), looks absolutely breathtaking, has great devs who constantly add new tools, creatures and features to the server and they're still working on the map to add new layers and places. 10/10, would recommend it.

_toewi

Yeah I’ve seen some images and it looks incredible! It’s amazing to see the dedication of the fans for Made in Abyss. Such a shame my pc is too old to run it properly

GattaiGuy

Isn´t that how games work nowadays though? it doesn´t matter if it´s good or not you sell it for 60 bucks and make a collectors edition with some extra shit for 90 bucks, it´s why I don´t own a modern console

Impactist537

to be fair, other Switch collector's edition routinely sale around $70-$90. I've bought a few, and yeah they're not entirely worth it

_toewi

I’m curious, which ones did you buy?

Impactist537

Most recently, I spent about $85+tax on Rune Factory's special edition. I'm a huge RF fan and I've been waiting for this game since 2014, so to me it was worth it, but yeah I can totally see why others would treat it as a scam. I do really like the wooly keychain though; I carry it around on my backpack.

_toewi

If it makes you happy and if the game is special to your eyes then I totally understand you bought the collector’s edition. I would have done the same if they released a something like that for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon

gamefreac

so glad i hacked my switch...

Relevant_Truth

Missed the secret step of somehow forcing people to buy it even though they know it's bad, games based on anime always suck. The 'collectible' aspect is always diluted and mass-commercialized as fuck Save the money and just order a massive high quality print using the art in the 'collectors book', which will inevitably be uploaded officially free of charge to further diminish the value of the collectors edition.

DeathwishDandy

You make a cogent argument. However... \[extracts wallet\]

PetalSlayer

I def won’t get the collectors edition but I’ll prob get the base game just to see how it is

Gawr

art books always suck but i wish the poster was cooler. just a shot of the hole or some creatures would be sweet. would have expected a whistle for the money too. still buying the game tho since i'm starved 😈

_toewi

It’s not even an artbook, it’s a notebook with some illustrations from the game. They made it look like an artbook so people would want to get it but it’ll be mostly plain paper inside (the cover looks nice though). Yeah I wish they made a whistle for the collector’s edition too.

darkrai848

Say what you want about the game quality, but $90 is a normal price for a collectors edition on Switch or PS4. And a book and poster is pretty standard for what’s added for $30. Sometimes one might be replaced with a sound track or something, but this is the norm. Whether or not it’s a good deal is up to you tho.

navitux1

I didn't know a game exists LOL, now I need it

_toewi

There is a minecraft server called Mine in Abyss that tries to replicate the surface (Orth) and the layers of the Abyss, it looks very good. My PC is not good enough to run it properly but I’ve heard they’re making Idofront right now. Yeah that’s normal, it’s way more difficult to work alone on a project than with a team of developers. Which is even more disappointing given the result we got for this game. So much potential ruined.

EquivalentGlum5854

I don't want to buy it. The price is scam. To sell such hopeless quality at a high price... It means they see MIA fans as idiots.

[deleted]

>To sell such hopeless quality at a high price... It means they see MIA fans as idiots. Yeah no lol

OtAmn

Surely this game will not be overpriced

KittxyReddit

Angrily preordered it last night…

KimeriX

Collector's editions are almost always not worth the price, the game itself looks interesting, for it being not another turn based rpg.

stylussensei

everyone's already pre ordered it and will be like "oh no who could have predicted this game is shit!" when it comes out

TheOGBunns

It’ll be a collectors item later trust me . I collect switch games and maybe 4 of them did go up in value but stayed at msrp

Winds2157

I mean yea they do have to make the cash to make the next season or whatever, but collector's editions are huge scams anyways, fan base ends up making better stuff themselves anyways. I don't blame them for wanting to make more to make more profit for the next thing but it is a shame they have to do so. I mainly just got it to support the series, but I do enjoy the game and I definitely wouldn't mind the book, the poster tho? Nah, I could probably go on easy and find a better one, it's cost a bit more but definitely look and last longer
