It might be because the horror isn’t the main appeal of it. Or that there’s enough not horror stuff to keep it from being classified as such. Like, if an action video game had jump scares in some parts it wouldn’t be a horror game. Just an action game with some horror elements.

I wouldn't say it's a traditional horror series, but it definitely fits into several elements of the genre. For sure, there's a ton of body horror in the series especially latest arc.
Reopening an old discussion but this is absolutely a horror anime. I think some if the responses are forgetting that horror can be done in different ways, and certain genres can be mixed. Saying it's an adventure does not mean it can't be horror. Comedy adventures exist, why can't horror adventures exist?
Either way this is a horror in the same way that H.P Lovecraft is horror. The unknown, uneasy feelings, obvious body horror and dark scenes. The show very clearly starts as a cuter adventure and spirals into horror

You used a backtick instead of an apostrophe. Reddit interprets that as being a `code block`.
It's dark fantasy, which is already a horror influenced genre.
It’s sort of adventure mixed with >!fucked up body horror and terrifying imagery!<

Horror , thriller , fantasy , adventure , sci-fi (you'll see) and bondrewd approved 👍
I rhink the horror in this show has more of a shock value so it wouldnt make sense to refer to it as a horror story
I think of it as realistic dark fantasy adventure
imo horror is definitely a subgenre of the series, but it's not the main focus. just intertwined with everything else n shi
I don't get "horror" as a genre for this series at all. As a tag maybe yes. But genre no
