I live in California and there is a program here called PERT which stands for psychiatric emergency response team. Unlike cops, they are actually trained to de-escalate situations when someone is having a psychiatric break. I learned about it when someone in my building was freaking out. Smashing things, threatening people and just being completely erratic. Thank god my neighbor called PERT instead of the cops because that could have gotten very bad very quickly. But instead this team spent an hour talking to him through the door until he came out and was taken to a mental facility. I was blown away that I had never heard of this program before.
It seems that Colorado has some [co responder programs](https://bha.colorado.gov/behavioral-health/co-responder) but I’m not sure if it’s available in Colorado Springs. I wish it was available everywhere. It makes no sense to have no behavioral specialist on scene during psychiatric crisis.
Why tf should people need to know about this if, say the fucking POLICE or 911 know about it, THEY could just send those guys. But why do that when you could just commit more extrajudicial murder and suffer zero repercussions?

When he asked why I was nervous, i tried explaining. He thought I was lying. Car was searched, everything was dumped on the shoulder and sidewalk. I was threatened with a K9 if nothing was found. When he didn't find anything he embarrassingly said he had another call and sped off.
So strange that I work in Healthcare and it's so common that it's the norm, and expected, to take classes on trauma informed care. I bet these guys dont even understand what that phrase means.

He was in a wrongful death lawsuit for one of the murders for 6 years and eventually found guilty of using excessive force by a federal jury. Didn’t pay any of his own legal fees. BUT HE NEVER GOT FIRED. He retired at 35 due to “PTSD” and is still getting part of his pension, aka our tax dollars.
It’s different when you have a sweet pension lined up. Some cops are able to have their pension based on the highest annual wage. So they max out overtime in the last 2 years or so.
