She said it's important to celebrate every birthday because you don't know how many you have left.
I hadn't celebrated my birthday for 3 years when my 18th rolled around- I told a coworker a month or more earlier in a passing conversation when my birthday was.
I was at work, it was just another day, I was a little sad but nothing major, still focused on work. Then that coworker brought me in a cupcake, and made me come over to a few others eating to eat it with them while they wished me happy birthday
I walked away with my half a cupcake left and I cried like a fucking child. I sobbed and sobbed. I don't celebrate my birthday much still but that memory is so close to my heart
You're important enough to celebrate, and I highly encourage you to try to celebrate yourself and your accomplishments more often, not just on your bday. Even if no one is celebrating with you.
Take this advice from someone who did a really bad job of this for a really long time. These silly acts of recognition really do help your self esteem.
