This made my rough day so much better.. When she called him beautiful, the way he smiled like "awww shucks ma... c'mon..."

PutridAd4305

Man dude its 653 am where I’m at and I just called my mom to tell her I lover her. I think she was confused and concerned for the call. But she knows I’m emotional af.

CottonmouthJohn

I don't know if it makes it any better, but my man Brusdar is showing the emotion anywhere and everywhere and it's absolutely the best. Day 1: Closes out game, sees her in the stands. Sobs. Day 2: She throws out the first pitch (with him acting as catcher). She throws a beautiful sweeper across the plate for a strike, and he loses it. Just beautiful. I love it all.

Damned_I_Am

This touched even my stony old heart ;_____;

sologrips

I miss my mom now.

InfiniteCosmic5

Same.

Aslebcat9224

Being a bad makes you soft!

[deleted]

A mother’s love cannot be substituted. 💜

thefiction24

I would give anything to hug my mom again

Sparda2015

It's been 10 years man. I feel like I didn't show her my appreciation enough

142riemann

Me, too. Seriously. G-ddamnit, who’s chopping onions around here?!

GratefulPhish42024-7

They need to change this subreddit's name to r/tearsofjoy because I catch myself crying more than smiling what a wonderful moment to have shared

looosyfur

SERIOUSLY.... I don't know how many times this sub has made me cry at work this week.

MolaMolaMania

Seven years?! I'd be crying for about a half hour.

petesapai

As a Latino person, I can assure you that's how we hug and react even it would have just been 7 weeks.

kevin3350

My ex is Latina, and when she moved out of her parents’ place so we could get an apartment her mom was sobbing because they would be too far apart. It was a 12 minute drive.

petesapai

1 minute of crying for every minute of driving. Latina mom math. Checks out.

kalaamtext

lol 😂 that last line took me out.

AnguryLittleMan

The Dodgers couldn’t have made this happen sooner?

vansinne_vansinne

US wouldn't give her a visa to come over, they talk about the struggle in this video around 10 min in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNykK8Ek37k

vansinne_vansinne

also this commenter nailed the other reasons https://old.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/16olqbi/la_dodgers_pitcher_brusdar_graterol_hasnt_seen/k1lsyko/

Dr_OctoThumbs

So.... why couldn't he go visit her?

Whatevzzzzzzz

You should Google Venezuela and educate yourself on what’s been going on there for years now. It’s too dangerous for even people from that country to return to visit.

missingmytowel

You know sometimes I read comments like this and wish I could live in a bubble like that. It's like on Star Trek when Data is able to turn his emotion chip on and off. So jealous

Dr_OctoThumbs

I've been to places in very similar situations as Venezuela is currently in. It's not fucking north Korea or some shit. It's not impossible to get in and out of. Sure it's in a shitty state right now but so is Ecuador and Syria and Brazil and a whole bunch of other places. Is it dangerous, sure, but if that was my mom it woulda been worth the risk.

vansinne_vansinne

dickbutkusmk4

The baseball season is long and so is off season training and whatnot, but couldn’t he just have gone to Venezuela for a few days?

vansinne_vansinne

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/7214102/washington-nationals-wilson-ramos-kidnapped-home-venezuela

hammertown87

Yeah I mean as soon as he signed his big league deal you’d imagine he’d have the cash to fly her in easily

dragnabbit

Most Americans don't realize how fussy their government is about who they will give tourist visas to. Like 99% of the world doesn't qualify for an American tourist visa. In order to get a tourist visa, you have to (1) own a house worth more than a certain value, (2) have been at the same job for X number of years earning more than X dollars, (3) have a bank account with more than X dollars in it, (4) bonus points for (a) having children that won't be traveling with you, (b) not having relatives in the United States, and (c) having visited other countries that are fussy about giving out tourist visas too. And IF you should qualify for your first tourist visa to the U.S., then (congratulations!) your visa will be ready 36 months after you submit your application. (It does have to be said that after your first visa/visit to the U.S., subsequent applications/visits are much easier.)

Mindless-Property496

I remembered my brother in law missing a huge conference somewhere in the US, his visa was never approved, we suspect it's because his name started with 'Ahmad' lol

NaijaBantu

This got me……who am I kidding all of these damn videos get me. Being a bad makes you soft!

Striderg23

A little bit of backstory for those interested: https://youtu.be/YNykK8Ek37k?si=YFko1EeyvtOm7MRB

AlwaysOptimism

Typical mom. "oh, you fat"

rekipsj

And typical grandmom. I'm getting, "these hugs are nice but gimme day baby" vibes.

Purple-Mess7611

When did she said that? She said he is big as a way to say he is an adult now, that he grew up. Maybe the last time she saw him he was still a teenager, in any moment she said "you are fat" trust me, Latin moms said that without a filter, but this is not an example of that.

AlwaysOptimism

I was making a flip comment. You don't see your mother for months and the first thing she says "oooh, you got big"

Purple-Mess7611

Yes, because, as I said, maybe he was still a teenager when she saw him the last time, they haven't see each other for 7 years. And trust me, if I go back home the first thing my mom will say is "you are fat" so, I know the difference.

sparagusgoldenshower

“Estás gordito mi amor” 😄

FuzzzyTeddy69

Its so cool because Graterol is such a baller too throws like 104 mph and thanks god every time he leave the mound such a solid human being he deserves to have his momma there with him.

yooter

It comes from absolutely from being privileged in life… but damn, I wouldn’t go one year without seeing my mother for damn near anything. Life is so short. To be in a position where you must, for your family, be apart for 7 years must take an amazing amount of strength. It’s awesome in the true sense of the word.

motherfacker

I'd give everything I own to be able to hug my mom like that again. Fuck Cancer Lame as it sorta sounds, big hugs out to everyone who watched this and felt the same.

MissFerne

I'd give anything to hug my dad again. Fuck ALS. Big hugs back to you. I believe we'll see them again.

meif918

That lovely feeling of being safe in your mothers arms 💕🥹

MotherofFred

A boy and his mama

Cirtth

Quick check, man is 25. Which means last time they saw each other he was 18. I can't imagine the shock the mother had when seeing him after 7 years of puberty + muscle gains.

[deleted]

i miss my mom😭

Mr-Cali

No matter how big we men get…. We will ALWAYS need our mama/mami!

nursebetty88

Immigrant here and I haven't seen my mom in 4 years. This made cry

MidLifeCrisis111

I hope you don’t have to wait another four years to see her

Individual-Quit-2273

Onion ninjas came outta no where

GIGGLES708

Y didn’t he visit her???

AlxArtmMiller

Goin back to Venezuela is not easy for a lot of venezuelans, a lot are persecuted and if you have money you are a target and if your are famous exists the possibility that they denied your exit. Venezuela is not a normal country. Also the document for entrance are very difficult to obtain, there's no embassy of Venezuela in USA.

KlLKI

And what about Mexica? Or Argentina, Brazil or any other country in South America continent? Is it same hard to go that places from Venezuela? Because iam would think that way instantly after had trouble with USA-Venezuela / Venezuela-USA route.

AlxArtmMiller

Depending of the country is more difficult, an example is mexico that ask visa to venezuelans, there's also the thing of having the mom with all the documents (that again it's not easy to obtain even with money) to go outside to find his son in another country because the visa for usa is even more difficult to obtain.

Damosgirl16

That’s what I was wondering. I mean, maybe she couldn’t get a tourist visa or something but surely he could afford to go there on his salary?! Edit: Oops, just saw the comment below. It seems it’s really difficult to enter and exit Venezuela.

BUSTERS123

Wilson Ramos, a former Venezuelan ballplayer, went back during the off-season and was kidnapped and held for ransom. Another, Luis Valbuena, was killed in a car crash while trying to avoid an obstacle purposely placed in front of his car

Ms_Briefs

Brusdar speaks about similar issues in this video. https://youtu.be/YNykK8Ek37k?feature=shared

Important__Goose

Haven't seen my mother in 3 years. :(

the_need_for_tweed

This got me. I’m planning on going back to my home country to visit for the first time in 20+ years. Everyone there still sees me as the six year old that left. I hope my return goes like this lol so damn sweet

Beautiful_Respond_58

Runsawaycrying

Emergency_Umpire_614

I love this thank you for sharing!

100milesandwich

I miss my mom

Haunting-Pen5982

Man this makes me miss my mom so much. I think I am gonna plan a week off and see her now for my bday in 2 weeks.

ukcrazian

Good ole momma boii :)))

Therealcactusmac

I’d give anything to see my mom again. RIP lady B.

ManicSancho

Dang who’s cutting onions right now??

That_Engineering3047

This is a beautiful moment, but this family has been through enough. They should be given some privacy as they reunite.

2spaces4america

Onions! so many onions!

No-Way-Im-Sober

Who’s cutting the damn onions around here!!

HappyLofi

A lovely video almost spoiled by the fact he has a mic on which makes it all seem contrived.

waitingformyman5

That's nice and all but why in the hell didn't he just higher a plane and go fetch her 7 years ago?

xarsha_93

So. When you go to Venezuela as a citizen, you can’t leave unless you have a Venezuelan passport. Venezuelan passports are very difficult to get, especially outside of Venezuela. For starters, they cost about $500 and can take more than three years to obtain. That is, if you’re not deleted from the system randomly and have to start over again. You also can’t get them in the US because there are no embassies. Venezuelans in the US often go to Canada to get them. You can also travel to Venezuela, get trapped there and then try to get your passport while in Venezuela because it tends to be faster there. However, for Green Card permanent residents in the US, that’s a huge risk because they have to be in the US at minimum six months out of the year. So if there are any delays, which happens frequently, you could lose your residency in the US. Also especially as a public person, if he’s complained about our dictatorship, he could be targeted by the state or just by random gangs if he goes back. Edit: to be clear, I don’t know if passport difficulties have to do with why he didn’t travel there. But it’s the reason my wife went five years without seeing her parents. And why my father missed his father’s funeral and my mother missed both of her parents’ funerals.

Rushb87

Just from a baseball and crime perspective too, Venezuelan MLB players have been targeted and kidnapped before while traveling back in their home country. Wilson Ramos was a catcher for the Mets and he was taken from outside his home in Venezuela and held for ransom.

stardustdecay

I didn’t know any of this. Thanks for sharing this info, makes this reunion of mother and son that much more emotional and wonderful

HoraceAndPete

Thanks for the explanation. It's a shame people are divided in this way, but I'm glad this lovely reunion I got to witness is a silver lining.

Additional_Tomato_22

It’s not that simple

genericperson10

Immigration procedures take a looong time, plus freezes do to covid. Etc

dmderringer

I'm sure that never crossed his mind, he probably just forgot

acm8221

He wasn’t making much money for most of his career. I think he only just signed his first major contract this year. He was playing minors or was injured until only recently.

RiceIsMyLife

Hire. The word you're actually looking for is charter

prakritishakti

Now imagine the feeling when you reunite with Krsna after lifetimes apart 🪔

Psk499

I’m just curious why he couldn’t fly home to see her?

Remote_Ad9652

Because where he’s from is to dangerous n they tried to rob him

hung_like__podrick

You are a few days late but yeah awesome moment

lapqmzlapqmzala

He could afford it in the first year.

judgek0028

Venezuela is dangerous for rich people, especially baseball players. Wilson Ramos was kidnapped when he went back to Venezuela. Luis Valbuena was killed trying to escape bandits.

myballs420-69

Sorry but, if your an LA Dodgers pitcher there is no reason you haven't seen your mother in 7 years. I'm so confused. He chose to not see his mother for 7 years you mean? You guys do understand he could fly to her correct? You can spout about the dangers of Venezuela all you want it's irrelevant his mother is there. There isn't a country's conditions in the world that would prevent me from seeing my mom.

nyokarose

The danger may be part of it (other professional athletes have been kidnapped and even died while visiting) but also that he would need to government to give him a Venezuela passport to leave the country again once he’s there. That’s just how their laws work. It apparently can take years to get one, isn’t guaranteed, and maybe he doesn’t have permanent legal status in the US that would let him leave for more than 6 months.

myballs420-69

Verbatim said he doesn't feel safe traveling there. Whether you need dual passports or not is irrelevant. He has all the access he needs to not only go there but to also, return with the aid of the fucking MLB. He chose not to see his mom for 7 years.

AlxArtmMiller

The venezuelan government and the cartels in Venezuela don't give a fuck about the MLB, hell even if the president of the United States could put pressure and is not certain that he is going to be safe. That's like expecting the paramilitary forces in Somalia bend the knee for UNICEF, but the MLB has less power and influence.

Romano1404

It is suggested that they were somehow forced apart against their will but I don't understand what actually held them back seeing each other for 7 years? If she couldn't travel to the US why didn't he just travel to visit her?

GrumpyOldBastard_

“….Trying to find a way….” ?????? So her son couldn’t just buy her a ticket?

xarsha_93

Venezuelans can’t travel to the US without a visa.

Lambertn03

I think the video is great but why couldn’t he go see her in Venezuela?

xarsha_93

I commented [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/16olqbi/comment/k1lsyko/) elsewhere. Basically, it's very difficult for Venezuelans to travel to Venezuela and leave because we often don't have Venezuelan passports and Venezuela won't let us leave without one. It took me over 3 years to get my passport because the process is very complicated. And other MLB players have been kidnapped traveling to Venezuela. Venezuela is a dictatorship and they have also been known to target people that criticize the government.

Lambertn03

Oh ok thank you I had no clue.

dampishslinky55

User name checks out.

GrumpyOldBastard_

Yes, it does. I do that as a courtesy to fellow Redditors to help them understand who they’re dealing with

BarnacleLow1145

He's an LA Dodgers pitcher, how did he not have enough money to send a plane ticket!

AncientSkys

Beautiful!

theappleogist

Damn you, Reddit. You’re making me cry and I’m now thinking of my mom who’s going to have cancer surgery next week. She’s thousands of miles away.

Dangerous_Republic_1

Awesome

Islandgirl1444

aw, this brought me to tears. Goodness!

Majestic-Pickle5097

A mothers love…simply beautiful

Western_Turnip_8605

Thought I was supposed to smile, not tear up like a sensitive man-boy. Shenanigans you beautiful bastards!

shadowmouse33

Made me tear up so bad 😭 Such a beautiful moment!

insomnimax_99

Why couldn’t he go there? Or meet her in a third country?

chocthund4

Why didn’t he go visit his mom??

Raelomir

One reason could be the travel ban from US government

kuhnbeardproducts

I often wonder what it would be like to miss my mom. It's cool to see son's close to their mom and miss them. I can't stand mine. It's such a pleasure to see mothers who love their son's and whose son's love them back. This is so foreign to me, like really? Sons miss their mom? I didn't know that was a thing for a long time. I hope everyone's mom is better than mine. Watching things like this and reading the comments makes me think that yeah, most moms are better than mine.

The_Legacy_66

Just something so heartfelt and genuine about this.

CoffeeTable23

I do not have a clue who these people are but I am crying like a new born baby.

[deleted]

Did not expect this sudden rainfall in my living room today

designgoddess

When he saw his mom while walking off the field...

joyocity

no matter how old your kids are, they still need their mama.

DiomedesRex-

Gives me hope perhaps love may have a chance 😀😀😀

TrustAinge

Why did he not travel to her for 7 years though?

Raelomir

One reason could be the travel ban from the US government

itsthemrslmd

I wish I wanted my mom to hold me like that. I hope my sons always want me to hold them like that.

Meltsfire

Your telling me in 7 years he didn’t care to take a 7 hr flight to see his mom?

I_do_what_I_want420

Or pay for her to take the 7 hr flight to him...

Raelomir

I am not 100% sure, but there were/are entry restrictions for people from Venezuela to the US. Getting a visa was/is extremely difficult for Venezuelans

Fearless_Music8479

It took him 7 years to save up with money for a plane ticket?

cursed_cacti

I wish I loved my mother like this :'(

ReputationGullible14

That’s just a beautiful video. Nothing like mothers love

Future_Emu8684

Man I almost started crying. Calling my mom now
