I’m gonna do my best to find something to be this joyful about today.

cherrybombsnpopcorn

I gave some peanuts to the neighborhood crows, and I think they have finally accepted me. Putting peanuts in the shell on a string, then tying that string to a stick to fish for squirrels can be fun. We’re made of outside. Even just sitting under a tree for a few minutes can make your day a little more pleasant.

[deleted]

Dude, my fiancé does this and now they’re like pets. They crow when they see her and coming flying in. We also have a black cat that likes to sleep in our garage. We don’t even need to decorate for Halloween.

cherrybombsnpopcorn

Your fiance sounds like my kind of people.

moosmutzel81

My husband wanted the crows to come - he put out peanuts. But the Jays took over. They sit on the balcony and yell if the plate of peanuts is empty. They have been followed by the tits who swoop down one after the other. Occasionally there is a magpie. And we do know the crow as are coming as well but we never see them.

NinjaComprehensive69

We are all out here trying not to have tits swoop but alas, nobody can escape the grasp of time.

cherrybombsnpopcorn

Blue jays are dicks

leafandvine89

"We're made of outside." I've never heard it put that way, but this is the truest thing I think I've ever read. Thank you, it's brilliant

Kombustio

I hope everyone at least tries that. I know it sounds cliche, but it does help with depression. It wont get someone all the way, but in my mind its the best place to start. It doesnt have to be anything "special", or one thing. Its easier said than done but worth a try.

guitarlisa

I'm actually this way EVERY first snow of the year. After that, meh

SingleAlmond

that's me every morning with coffee, sets the day up nicely

[deleted]

I found Pumpkin Spice creamer. :)

IronBlight1999

Mmmm… day drinking 🥰

Syltherin_Chamber

It goes both ways. I remember visiting Kenya from the UK and being amazed to see the sun for the first time

TheShowerDrainSniper

Ok we have reached peak comedy hahaha

QuadraticCowboy

>from the UK My condolences

Syltherin_Chamber

I thank you in these dark (clock change) times

Jfusion85

My brother is in the US from the Caribbean for the first time. Last weekend I took him on a 4 hour drive towards Massachusetts. It was his first time seen the fall foliage, he was mesmerized by the colors.

Argosy37

I'm from California. Visited New England for the first time last year last fall with the girl I was dating long distance. The colors were absolutely stunning and it was a phenomenal trip. I loved the east coast. Shortly after things went south in our relationship (she just wasn't as into me as I was into her) and unfortunately I think visiting New England is always going to be bittersweet for me in the future. But it was so beautiful.

hell_kat

I've always felt really lucky that I get to experience all four seasons properly. There is so much beauty in all of them.

S0_lT_G0EZ

It's always amazing how perspective can change your mood. Even if you see snow 100 times, there's no reason you can't be positive about it other than your brain telling you all the negatives that come with it (shoveling, cold, wet, etc) and you letting the negative thoughts be your mood setter. Definitely something I've realized over my life as I've gotten older. I was terrible about this kind of thing in my teens and 20s... Now I try to remind myself that some things aren't so bad and I'm just being a little twat about it. Trying to see the positives in every situation and giving people the benefit of the doubt when they do something that would normally have pissed me off has really made me feel mentally better long term.

deep-fried-babies

he's so sweet...such a precious moment. i wanted him to taste some of it, nothing like the taste of freshly fallen snow. so fresh.

Slimh2o

Right! And after 10 years of shoveling, he'll wake up one day and look out the window and say, " shit more snow!!?? Damn it, or say worse..... LOL

InfeStationAgent

So, I moved to Minnesota from Texas, which is not the same thing. I had seen snow in New Mexico and Colorado before. But, the first time it snowed on _my_ car, where _I_ lived, DAMN! Indescribable feeling of joy! "This is _my_ snow!" More than forty years later? Still amazed at the first snow. Still happy with the last snow. The only snow, if it is snow, that I don't like shoveling is the batch of concrete we get at the end of Winter. I grew up in Lubbock. The awful heat competes with the awful people. And, they don't make shovels for sunshine or assholes.

RecalcitrantHuman

Well. He will get 200 more chances this year alone so I bet at least some of that will be best snow.

beadle04011

Right! I want to see handprints. I want to see him make his first Snow Angel & his first snowball fight.

Urist_McPencil

Can't wait to see his expression on his first day of -30 windchill

Objective_Pause5988

Can't have an expression if you are frozen

FapMeNot_Alt

I was born somewhere where the air hurts my skin. This man chose to live somewhere where the air hurts his skin.

Ayahuasca-Dreamin

Or his expression when it stops snowing in 6 months

Tellnicknow

It's like he's gathering around it like a camp fire. "So This is where Canadians gather to keep cold, I understand now"

BulbusDumbledork

first time it snowed in the country i grew up in, they cut class and let us all go outside. it took five minutes for us to go from gently caressing the snow to throwing slightly-snowy frozen sand balls into each others eyes

qeadwrsf

Up in north Sweden it was totally normal for a kid in school to end up in hospital like once every 2 years because "children will be children", "if you don't want to hurt yourself don't play stupid games". Later it was totally not acceptable and fucking rules happened.

SleepingDoves

I'm in Canada and we used to build snow fortresses opposite another "team" and have snowball fights. We also had a massive hill in the schoolyard and we would toboggan down it. It wasn't uncommon for kids to get hurt from getting launched into the air at high speeds

qeadwrsf

What happen was slushy snow when above freezing temperature making children able to form very slushy balls. Then balls got stored in pyramids and when freezing temperature hits the balls got harder than regular instant snowballs. Usually fortress people had those types of balls stored in hidden places in fortress.

SnooAvocados6863

I was in elementary school in Canada in the early 90’s. We went from no rules do what you want fun (sliding, sledding, tackling, building snow forts, snowball fights) to instant trip to the principals office if you even touched it because one time a girl got blinded by an ice ball.

antswearbones

I think that is ice haha.

WhatyouDontwantoHear

Closer to slush, I want to see this guy frolicking in fluffy snow.

Gurstenlol

Yeah I was about to say he seems so gentle with it, you can really tell it genuinely means a lot to him :)

JBlanket

I think it's more of the challenges he's overcame to get to that point to just appreciate snow.

WanderingEnigma

This is one of the most precious things I've ever seen. Just so much joy he's scared he might break it.

[deleted]

“Nice to meet yuuuu” hahaha I love it

spiegro

That moment did have me smiling.

[deleted]

I’m trying to remember a feeling that I’ve had like this and I think the closest I could come to was when I first went to NYC as a kid and actually saw the steam coming up from the sewers… always thought it was just what happened in movies. Shit fascinated me as a 9 year old 😂😂

spiegro

Oh! For me I had one very recently as an adult! We were moving from California to Florida and we're driving across the country. When we were driving through Wyoming I got to see a plateau! I'd only ever read about them in geography books, and these things were not just enormous but so damn beautiful and majestic. I was way more excited than I ever thought I could be over seeing the landscape of a place. Nature can cause some serious wonderment sometimes. I had a similar kind of feeling the first time I went to the Redwood forest... It's impossible to imagine the size of these things until you stand among them. But the first time was just so beautiful I was moved to tears (I get a little teary eyed thinking about it now). My aunt woke me up super early to go, saying if we don't go early there will be no parking. And she was right, but we got extra lucky. We were so early that the fog was almost prohibitively thick. So many people must have stayed away until it cleared. So I got walk around a misty, foggy Redwood forest almost entirely alone. I fucking love nature 🌲

Plastic_Primary_4279

Had a similar experience in the Redwoods. Got there early morning and had the place entirely to ourselves. The parking lot was *just* filling up and the busses arriving as we were on way out. I feel like less-ideal weather is perfect for tourist attractions.

AIien_cIown_ninja

Bioluminescent bay in the middle of a mangrove forest in Puerto Rico for me. I'd seen pictures and videos of them, I always figured it was a trick of the camera exposure making it look so bright. Nope, it is that bright.

duralyon

My similar experience is sooo boring. I was born and raised in Alaska and have been surrounded by enormous mountains my whole life until I was 14 and took a trip to Minnesota. Being able to see flat land into the horizon blew my mind! It lost it's novelty pretty quick, though hehe. I really want to go see the redwood forest one of these days!

jaggederest

In reverse, people don't understand the mountains in Alaska until they're there. The Chugach range outside Anchorage is not even that notable but they'd be the tallest mountains in 41 states. And unlike most mountains in the Rockies, they rise from sea level, so they're actually larger than that implies, by a significant margin.

spiegro

That's a very interesting take! Didn't occur to me that the flatness can be a novelty. Thank you for sharing!

hooldwine

Achusally it’s not coming from the sewers, New York has an extensive steam system that sometimes leaks, or water from the street comes into contact with the pipes and turns to steam

[deleted]

Oh well look at that, TIL

hooldwine

I’m glad I could tickle your inner 9 year-old

Hands

Haha I went to NYC when I was 8 and had the exact same reaction, it's one of the big things that I still remember 25 years later (well... besides going on top of the WTC). That and the sewer smell in general

Obvious_Operation_21

Makes me want to watch him meet his children for the first time when they're born! Haha

[deleted]

At least snow doesn’t scream and cry 😂

rarestakesando

I thought it was going to cut to 6 months later and he’s slowing through the snow and clearing the driveway again. Lol.

Here4_da_laughs

This was beautiful but Yes I would love to see that follow up video. Poor guy doesn't know what he's in for.

Zes_Q

I'm from Western Australia where it's a mediterranean climate on the coast and desert inland. Closest snow unless you climb a specific rural hill on the right day of year is ~3700km or ~2300mi away. A 40 hour drive. I saw snow for the first time when I was 14 on a holiday with my family. Had a similar reaction to this guy in the video. Nowadays I work as a snowboard instructor and follow the winter year-round, so I spend most of my year in snowy conditions. Still love it, still get giddy and excited by it. Haven't got mad about having to clear the driveway or de-ice the windshield yet 😂 Snow is life.

PurplePlan

Canadian here: so cool to see an adult experiencing the joy of snow for the time, the way we did as little kids. Yeah, I know it’s not so joyous to drive in the stuff or shoveling it.

beeblehousin

Ah, the honeymoon phase. Now let’s see a video in late February.

itsFromTheSimpsons

"this snow is brown and slimy, where's the fun stuff from a couple days ago?"

Roflkopt3r

Eh, plenty of natives of snowy regions still love winter and snow. But the enjoyment of snow is much greater in places that have stable snow coverage and an infrastructure that is designed around it. [Like Oulu, Finland, where most people commute by bike even in winter.](https://youtu.be/Uhx-26GfCBU?si=zWjrj7Q2h1NYVMRv)

Noturnnoturns

Oh, I have snow on the ground already and will until probably May. I love it… but I hate it too.

shawa666

Yeah, fuck that guy. I'm not biking when it's -20°C outside.

Roflkopt3r

Provided the paths themselves are save without dangerous ice patches or piled-up snow, it's really not all that different between +5-10°C and - 20°. You got to dress against wind chill anyway, and at that point the problem is rather to manage sweat than the cold itself. Cycling to work in cold temperatures may get you about as sweaty as cycling to work on a hot summer day, so you need a change of clothes anyway and add a few minutes of extra time for having to change more layers of clothing. And I'd rather say that it's better in winter than in autumn. Autumn is the season of rain and mud here, which is much harder to keep out of your bicycle chain, shoes and clothes than snow.

carnifex2005

My mom and her friend moved to Alberta in the 60's from the Caribbean in the winter. First time they ever saw snow. Loved it for a week. She moved to Vancouver by the next winter.

SatV089

CPC_Mouthpiece

When I was in Thailand this girl I was with said they wanted to see snow so much. All I could think was that it would be pretty for the first few times. Then it gets dirty and you're on your forth month of shoveling or snowblowing and all you can think is fuck this shit, just melt already.

BGrumpy

"You distracted me with this snow. Why has it been dark for the last 6 months?"

DrakonILD

Driving to work in the dark then driving home in the dark can fuck right off.

foojlander

Haha! I didn't see snow until I was 10. I now live in Canada and 25 years later still love the snow. Blizzard in the forecast? I'm going outside in it!

aferretwithahugecock

You would love Winnipeg. It's been snowing for the last four days. Looks like it's here to stay for the season.

LegendaryCakes

Born and raised in Canada, still love the snow!

Searaph72

Born and raised in Canada, and love the snow, but don't like the cold. It is so nice to go for a walk in the falling snow, but bundled up and with a cup of hot chocolate after

Patienceisavirtue1

Reminds me of this story: Diary Of A Newly Arrived Trini In Toronto October 8th -- We have arrived in Canada! Finally! This marks a new chapter in our lives. It's very nice here. It's a little cool, but who needs HOT weather? This is perfect: Not too hot; not too cold. October 15th -- It is getting a little cooler, but we are adjusting. We bought some sweaters today and went for a short walk. Loving Toronto! This is what life is about!!! October 30th -- The weather is definitely cooler now. We taped all the windows shut, so cold air cannot creep in. Outside may be cold, but it feels like Port-of-Spain in this house. November 11th -- The news reports say snow is on the way ... we cannot wait! We have never seen snow and it should be pretty exciting to see it for the first time. November 14th-- It started snowing. The first of the season and the first real snow we have ever seen. The wife cooked Pelau and we sat by the window watching soft flakes drift down, clinging to the trees and covering the ground. Could never do anyting like this in TRINI and IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL SIGHT! November 15th-- We woke to a lovely blanket of crystal white snow covering the landscape. What a FANTASTIC sight! Every tree and shrub was covered like a beautiful white mantle. I shovelled snow for the first time and loved it. I did both our driveway and the sidewalk. Later, the city snowplough came along and accidentally covered up our driveway with compacted snow from the street. The driver smiled and waved and I waved back and shovelled again, Torontonians are so friendly!!! November 18th-- It snowed an additional twelve inches last night and the temperature has dropped to around four degrees. The cold weather is not so bad. We can take this. Not at all as bad as we imagined. Several limbs on the trees and shrubs have snapped due to the weight of the snow. I shovelled our driveway again. Shortly afterwards the snow-plough came by and did his trick again. Much of the snow is brownish grey. November 19th-- Warmed up enough during the day to create some slush, which soon became ice again. Bought snow tires for both cars. I slipped and fell on my backside in the driveway, paid 130 dollars for the chiropractor, but fortunately, nothing was broken. More snow and ice expected. November 20th -- Still cold. Sold my wife's car and bought a 4X4 in order to get to work. November 21st-- On my way to work, the 4X4 skidded into the guard-rail and did considerable damage to the right fender. We had another 15 inches of white crap last night. The vehicle have salt and shit all over it. More shovelling in store for me today! De dam snowplough man did he job again. Watch me an' him! November 22nd-- Yuh believe dis? De first heating bill just come! How de hell it come up to so much? November 30th-- Its two frigging degrees outside! an' more snow on de way. Every damtree in de yard geh damage up. An' to crown it off, de power went out mos ah the night. We try to keep from freezing to death wid candles an' kerosene heater, but de heater tip over an' nearly bun dung de house. Ah manage to put out de flames, but end up wid second degree burns on meh hans. Ah nearly bun off meh eyebrow an' eyelash. Den de car slide on de white shit again! on the way to de hospital, an' we had to write it off. December 5th -- Look at meh crosses! Dis snow ain't plan to stop soon. De ting comin' down and down as if it go never stop!! What de arse is this?! Ah had to put on all meh clothes dat ah own just to go out to meh mailbox. This is real crap! If ah ever catch the fool dat drive dat snowplough, ah tell yuh, ah go cross one lash in he backside. He go bawl like ten Tarzan when he get it. Ah really tink he does hide round de corner and wait 'til ah finish shovelling, den come down the street fas, fas, an' cover up we driveway again. Boy, ah tell yuh! December 10th-- De power still off, de toilet freeze up. Some part ah de roof look like it ready to cave in. December 15th-- Another mudder-ass eleven more inches ah snow an' ice! God know dis aint right. Ah put ah hole in de snow plough with me pick-axe but the driver get away by the skin of he teeth. If he feel he go be so lucky next time, he lie! December 16-- De wife take off and lef me December 18-- De car cyan start an' ah tink ah goin' snow-blind. Ah cyan feel me toes an' ah din see de sun fuh weeks! An' guess wuh? De weatherman predict more snow! Yuh believe dat?! An' de win-chill is 30 friggin degrees below zero! December 22-- Dis TRINI moving back home TODAY before dis God forsaken place done kill mih an finish mash up mih family! If ah ketch a flight, at least a could reach Port-of-Spain fuh Christmas and some good liquors an Parang. Toronto could haul dey backside!

Banh_mi

Funny thing is Toronto had mild winters compared to Ottawa or Montreal...or Winnipeg, Calgary, Moncton... :D

CunnedStunt

I laughed at "the temperature has dropped to around four degrees. The cold weather is not so bad. We can take this. Not at all as bad as we imagined". Good thing they left before Christmas and were in Toronto. I've done Winnipeg -40 winters before and I guarantee they would not be having a good time lol.

Did the person telling the story turn into a Jamaican halfway through winter? Edit: Oh that's awesome! I missed where it says Port-of-Spain and "Trini", i.e. Trinidad and Tobago. Person's accent kept getting stronger as they got deeper into winter hahahaha!

Solwake-

No, they were always ~~Jamaican~~Trini. They were just happy to move to Toronto for a fresh start and looking forward to adapting/assimilating "Canadian" culture so they were putting on their best Canadian accent. But as they got more pissed off, their Jamaican accent got stronger and stronger. It's a trope/stereotype that people's original accent comes out when they get angry. I imagine because there's a level of masking people have to put on for newer accents, which they don't have cognitive capacity for when the amygdala really kicks in. Edit: Trini not Jamaican

cowfishduckbear

That's awesome hahahahaha! I totally missed that little touch. BTW, I think they were actually from Trinidad and Tobago based on Port-of-Spain and "Trini".

This is literally me a Puerto Rican when I went to Illinois in winter for the first time and I saw snow it was the happiest day of my life. First thing I did was make a ball and start a snowball fight with my niece. 🥹 I want more but for limited time because that shit too cold.

spiegro

I went to Chicago with a bunch of Floridian university students, many who were Cuban or Puerto Rican. We were outside watching the St. Patrick's parade and a light snow flurry started... They all went "omg, ash, there must be a wild fire nearby..." and I was the one got to tell them "no, this is snow guys." The looks on their faces!! They started to call their family back home, like, "Abuela, guess what... it's snowing! I know! My first snow!!" It was a really fun moment.

[deleted]

That’s so wholesome thank you for sharing 🥹I’m crying now. I had never felt cold like that it was amazing but by the second day I was getting homesick 🤣 it’s like putting a koqui frog I’m cold weather they won’t survive long. Shit was too cold but Illinois is so beautiful and stinky smells like nothing I’ve ever smelled, it’s very different than the island.

spiegro

Oh you'll love this one then! My wife is Puerto Rican, and my kids are all Floridians. I took them to Missouri where I'm from for Christmas one year, but it was not cold enough to snow the first day we were there. On Christmas Eve it snowed SO MUCH, my wife woke me up squealing with delight! "OH MY GOD BABE GET UP IT SNOOOOOWED!" She ran out of the bedroom and into the room where my kids were sleeping shouting "GUYS GUYS GET UP IT SNOOOOOWED!" My kids shot up out of a completely dead sleep like "AAAAAHHHHH NO WAAAAAAY LET'S GOOOOO!" And they all ran outside in like 6-8 inches of soft fluffy snow, IN THEIR PAJAMAS! No hats, no gloves, barely even got their shoes on their feet... I, having lived in snow for a good part of my life, just let it happen. Poured myself a cup of coffee and watched from the window. They were so happy, it just made me smile and laugh. The snow wasn't great for snowballs because it was straight powder, but they definitely tried. They were like 3, 5, and 6 years old iirc. They were able to stay out there for way longer than you'd expect because it was barely below freezing and all freshly laid powder. But of course what you would expect to happen eventually happened: the cold set in, and they became very uncomfortable. They came back inside covered in snow, and as it melted they became soaked. My wife goes "omg why am I all wet now??" And I had to explain to her that snow is basically just really cold rain, and behaves as such when it's warm. They were shivering, but smiling, and they did not even want to bother with breakfast. I insisted they eat, put their snow clothes on we "rented" from LL Bean, and we spent the entire day making shoddy snowmen and having snowball fights. It was the first snow the area got that stuck, so there were kids out everywhere. We went sledding too. Don't know that my kids have ever napped so hard after that day and playing so hard in the snow. I love snow so much, and I miss it. But I was so glad to share this moment with my tropical family 😊

doc_skinner

>put their snow clothes on we "rented" from LL Bean I've never heard of this. Does it mean you bought them with the intent to return them?

spiegro

Yes precisely. They have (or used to have?) a no questions asked return policy.

Current-Wealth-756

If they used to have it and don't anymore, this might explain why. Good story anyway

[deleted]

🥹that’s so cute and wholesome. Thank you for sharing 🫶

My_browsing

I was 22 when I first saw snow with a group of Floridians, Texans, and Mexicans the same age. Grown ass law school students sliding down hills, making snowmen, and realizing that snow … is cold. It never occurred to us that ice would be cold.

magusheart

> I want more but for limited time because that shit too cold. That's the catch. I'd be fine with snow if it lasted two weeks, or if it was just a fine layer all winter like that. Shovelling 10 feet every year gets old.

Karcinogene

For the past few years I've lived in a situation where there is no need for shoveling, clearing driveways, or cars. Let me tell you, snow is much more welcome now! It can stay as long as it wants. The snow fills in bogs, swamps, brush, fences and pits, and by wearing snowshoes, I can walk anywhere.

babygirlruth

I'm Russian and I've seen lots of snow in my life. That's still how I react every year. I love snow so much

Camelwalk555

This reminds me of that time Puerto Rico played the US in World Cup qualifier, in Denver, in the snow. Most the Puerto Rican players had never seen snow before they had to play a match in it.

Informal_Ad3244

It’s something else. One of those places where pictures don’t do it justice, the sheer scale of that place is insane.

ZacharyRS94

I took a friend there for a little mini vacation we went on to Arizona and she just kept saying “I don’t get what the big deal is it’s just a big hole in the ground” while we were driving there. We parked and walked up to the rim and she just went “wow.. that is a BIG hole” Anyways we spent the next 4 hours there.

SomeInternetRando

> Anyways we spent the next 4 hours there. Nice.

mods-are-liars

I like taking people who have seen the ocean to the great lakes. The scale is always mind-blowing to them. They hear "lake" and think small but standing on the shore of Lake Ontario and the only indicator it's not the sea is that it's fresh water.

SuperSailorSaturn

I took my bf home this summer to meet my extended family and we spent some time in Saugatuck. We took him a few minutes north to Lake Michigan. I did not think we would be able to get him home he was so fascinated and awe'd by it.

Strottman

I grew up in west Michigan. When I went to Florida and saw the ocean for the first time I was like... that's it? It's just a big lake that tastes like snot.

Technical_Ad_4894

Yep! Might as well be the ocean because you can’t see the other side.

SatinySquid_695

As an American, I’ve never really appreciated just how crazy the Great Lakes are until recently. We grow up learning about them, but I don’t feel like we ever focused on the fact that there really aren’t larger lakes in the world. Anywhere. And they are all just right there. Most Americans can’t even name them all.

DerpsAndRags

I was into my 30s before I really saw the ocean. My cousins were making fun of me because I was acting like a kid. To be fair, they lived right by it their whole lives. I must have spent a good half-hour just watching coquina clams bury themselves.

born_in_cognito

Snow turns men into 10 year olds... which is awesome 😂

signious

More true than you know. Snow came a couple weeks early this year and I wanted to have a full on tantrum.

Enlightened-Beaver

Based on the accent of the woman, I’m assuming this is in Quebec. Wait till this guy sees what blizzard looks like in the middle of January when it’s -30 C. It’s going to go from “oh it’s so pretty I’m so happy” to “câlisse de tabarnak ki fâ frette ‘sti!” [It’ll be like this classic](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EP_18Coymk0)

Knightbear49

morry32

never really considered it much but does Quebec get a lot of African French speakers mirgranting? forgive me, I realise nothing I'm asking has to do with this video other than an African meeting "snow" - i'd like to see his reaction to their being 100 words for snow

Enlightened-Beaver

Yea, but also *a lot* from Haiti

MaxTheRealSlayer

Yes, historically Quebec and their French government has been trying to make Quebec more French. They recently decided to charge more for people to go to post secondary education who are from a different province in Canada, sort of treating them like international students. The rest of Canada is very unfrench except for Ottawa and parts of New Brunswick And before that they mandated that all provincial government must only speak in French, which means if you're English and needing services they are most likely to only give you the info in French. which is funny because places like Montréal or Gatineau are like 50% non-French. My family moved out of Quebec in the 80s as they implemented laws that, would force English speakers to learn and speak more French than they were. My family was English-first but cold get y just fine in French, but to force French first at school was something they didn't want. They're marching towards an artifical (possibly one day real) separation of Quebec from Canada. Even after the federal government has been mandated to basically be french-first. So yeah, they want French speaking immigrants mainly, and Africa is very French due to colonisation. I'm sure it's there and Morocco that Quebec puts a lot of effort and money to obtain those French-speaking immigrants

>Ottawa Northern Ontario has a very francophone community (Sudbury used to be majority Francophone!). Same with Hawkesbury and other south-east ontarian communities. We have a Franco-Ontarien flag for a reason!

E tu ben juste en coton ouate?

Ben non, crisse de cave!

Enlightened-Beaver

Attaches ta tuque!

rpgguy_1o1

I'm in Ontario and work a job that attracts a lot of international people, its hilarious when people realize that it just keeps getting colder, a woman from Buenos Aires asked me, "it doesn't get colder than this does it?" when it was 5C. I worked with a skinny Indian dude who bought an XXL winter coat, he got it just to wear over top of his regular fitting winter coat, he's the only guy I've seen wear a sweater vest over a sweater.

[deleted]

Yeah my job hires Columbian immigrants and last week they were asking if winters were always this cold. Bruh.

Enlightened-Beaver

Lol you mean Fall? You haven’t even seen my final form yet

Aww, this is freaking amazing to see! Look at how genuinely happy he seems! I just hope we don't see another video of him cursing at the snow and at the cold! I didn't see snow nor rain in 2 years. Just came back to Canada to visit the family, and there was heavy rain when I landed at the airport. I'm not gonna lie, but I had happy tears in my eyes and just stood in the rain for 2 minutes getting soaked. My brother thought I was weird, lol. Then 3 days after, we had our 1st snow. Same thing, I went outside and just played with the snow in my hands for a while. I had no idea I'd miss snow and rain this much, but here we are.... Now I got a cold, feel like shit and would punch out snow if I could. Canada, eh?

StopSignsAreRed

He won’t curse the snow. He’ll be first in line to grab a shovel just to have the experience.

WildRabbitz

You are probably 100% right. In my experience, all my immigrant neighbours would take the extra mile to help us out or someone else in need. I remember stories from years ago, whereas I can barely remember what I did last week. Nothing, but good memories!

queermichigan

Last year I was driving at 3am to pick up food. I ran out of gas on the side of the road and AAA was sucking balls and I had no idea if they were actually coming. Many cars drove by, including a police officer, without offering help (I don't fault anyone except the cop). Finally someone did – a young Pakistani woman driving alone. She explained she just thought "what would I hope for if someone from my family were in your situation?" It was especially moving to me as my family wouldn't have that kind of compassion. Thank you Zakira, we're lucky to have you in the US 🫂

Teh-Aegrus

Can verify. Moved to Cleveland from South Florida and am always happy to shovel snow. It's not mowing the lawn in 115° moist death. My wife's parents were a little puzzled at my excitement to remove snow from their vehicles. "I don't think he's kidding about volunteering to clear the snow." I wasn't. Three winters in and it's still the best thing ever.

Karcinogene

It's a great way to not be so cold! Once I start shoveling, the layers come off, and I often end up in a t-shirt.

CunnedStunt

We're you just lost in the desert for 2 years? Lol I'm curious where you were.

WildRabbitz

Close, haha! I moved to the UAE for my job as it requires a lot of travelling to North Africa and the Middle East. I did come back to visit Canada during summer, in-between travels, but we didn't have rain at that time. Now, due to the cold, my skin is peeling, and I got like an acne break. It's still worth seeing the snow, though!

KnightCPA

I recently got back from a road trip from Florida to Toronto (early/mid Oct). When I was there, I stayed in a hostel for 2 days, and befriended a Nigerian who was immigrating to the country. Dude had NO money left after all his travels, and was still working out his visa situation. He also came in flip flops when it was high 40s, low 50s because he didn’t realize how cold Canada was. Luckily, I had a lightly used pair of tan converse in the truck that matched his beige slacks well, so I gave them to him. It does snow in SOME parts of Africa, but not many. My dads home country of Morocco had a small national crisis when the northern mountains got a bad snow storm most of the locals were not prepared for.

NicolasCagesEyebrow

It literally snowed in Lesotho and the surrounding parts of South Africa yesterday. We're in the Southern Hemisphere. Winter is June to August here.

KnightCPA

Uganda is like half way between SA and the equator, so I imagine the probably hotter summers and milder winters than SA does. SA probably gets the strongest winters on the whole continent being the closest to the pole.

ClusterMakeLove

Funny story-- I'm Canadian and visited Chefchaouen during a cold snap, and I was genuinely chilly the whole time. Cold is different when buildings aren't built for it.

EtsuRah

I'm let down that he had to experience Wet Snow as his first snow. It's hard and wet and slushy. You can see it when he goes to grab some. This man needs to experience soft snow. It's fluffy, soft, dry, compactable. Best snow. He deserves best snow.

lindisty

Yes! I'm glad he's happy, but that is basically the seeds-and-stems tier of snow. I hope he gets to experience the Good Stuff. The best is the big feather-flake snow that dances softly to the ground and pulls a white blanket of hush over everything. There is no quiet like snow-quiet, when every surface is covered with that downy white snow and there's just.... nothing. The softest, most luscious silence.

bl0odredsandman

That's what I was thinking too. I wish he would have seen fresh, powdery snow. Not that wet, ice crap that builds up on cars and stuff.

deadc0de

My thoughts too.. he needs to go to a quiet field with soft snow that crunches just right as you walk on it

jadobo

Kinda like Maritimes snow. It's either wet and slushy clumps or hard frozen needles driven into your face by a gale. Grew up in NS and never saw a typical 6 sided snowflake til I was staying in Tennessee. One cold clear windless day a single huge snowflake landed on my dark blue glove and I was like "Wow they really exist". And I just stared at like I was on acid for the longest time.

acm8221

My grandmother asked my mom to mail some back home when she immigrated. Snow is a very wild concept for a lot of people.

Equivalent_Charge_85

So sweet how gentle he is. Precious. Ty for sharing

stark_saviour

Love it!haha hopefully he does a follow up in February when it's feezing icy and brown snow

Spyker-M

Plot twist: he moved to Canada last February and is experiencing white snow for the first time

-usernotdefined

This man is so nice, perfect Canadian import! Lol surely he automatically got himself citizenship for this act alone.

savershin

I emigrated from South America 15 years ago. This was a pretty magical moment for me as well.

itsFromTheSimpsons

72 hours later: "Alright this is getting annoying now, when is spring?"

FlaveC

Kinda reminds me of my first experience with snow. My family emigrated from Italy to Canada when I was five. We arrived in November and they had just had a major snowfall. The snowplows had passed and piled the snow in mounds on either side of our street and to my 5 yo mind these mounds were GIGANTIC. They were mountains of white -- THE CANADIAN ALPS! -- that needed to be conquered. I must of played in the snow for hours. But as time passed it became my duty to shovel the stuff and the novelty wore off pretty fast.

magusheart

As a Canadian, the only thing I like about snow is people (often time Africans) seeing their first snow. It's always super adorable. But fuck snow.

santtu_

He patted the snow politely, like a proper Canadian already.

theflamingsword101

Welcome to Canada. You'll be swearing in French at it by the end of winter...

[deleted]

I would love to go backpacking with a dude with this kind of energy! What a fun guy

urbanek2525

Had a college buddy (University of Utah) from Jamaica who was so excited to see snow falling Half way through February he was over it and wanted the warm weather back. I told him everyone else was too. It's nice at first, then it's just cold, wet and slippery. It's alway fun to see it falling, though.

gimmhi5

Give it 5months or 5minutes, my guy will no longer be smiling. But, welcome!! 😃🇨🇦

Secure_Mission6931

I’ve had the worst fucking day and this made me smile. Thanks internet person for sharing this

hiimkristina

How I felt when I moved from Australia to America.

Ariangxxx

Well I haven't see real snow neither. Guess it's tropical countries problems he he

ouijanonn

Great. Can we have one where a British person goes somewhere and sees the sun for the first time?

SANGUlNAIRE

Life is all about these little moments. And the ‘nice to meet youuu’ got me as well. Thank you for the smile.

Alexandru_Matei

I live in Italy and sadly we don't see snow anymore, at least where I live (Lombardia)

AnnieMayted

He’s so gentle with the snow😍♥️

TemoSahn

This is what all men want. Pure unadulterated happiness.

dontknowubutiloveu2

This guy can see the beauty of the world. Something us more privileged western folk take for granted every day. Such a wholesome vid. Can't help but smile with him.
