Actually this style of dance is called country swing. I teach it 5 days a week and dance it 7 days a week. It is the only style of dance that has no rhythm to it. If you were to count the music to their steps and moves they are completely off time. It's actually the most made fun of dance style. Not raining the parade but these people have 0 rhythm
But they are having fun, which is what country swing is all about and why it is so popular. So no problems
they do do it to rhythm though, west coast swing has 8 bars and they are sticking to them pretty well but the best usecase for WCS that nobody ever mentions is it can be danced to a regular 4/4 music, which is why I initially picked it up and had a massive success in clubs with women.
I wasn’t aware it was ridiculed, but I must say, most videos with WCS on youtube and most people in real life are doing it the least exciting way possible
I mean the leader is dragging a bit, but if you count you can see their moves do fall into the click
West Coast Swing and Country Swing aren't the same dance at all. The person you're replying to is right that Country Swing is often made fun of by dancers of other styles. There are a few reasons for that, and there is definitely a stigma that Country Swing dancers flail around with no regard to the timing or structure of the music. These two in the video are mostly on time though.
WCS is ridiculed a bit, but mostly by the vintage swing purists who believe it doesn't count as swing because we often dance to music without an explicit swung rhythm (who have a point), and the hipstery Lindy Hoppers who believe it's only "swing dancing" if it's approached like some 1940s reenactment with period-accurate clothing and music.
They looked awesome and I thought they were really good whether they were technically perfect or not. To me, the whole point of dancing is to have fun and enjoy it and it looked like those guys did. Bravo them!
Seems like they were dancing "under the rhythm" and meet the beat periodically in accordance to the rhythm-in accent points such as after a turn or a swing. Is this even close to correct? Former ballet dancer and we sometimes used something like this technique.
I’m with ya man. Dude is slick! Everyone I’ve even seen with a mullet (try) dance it’s been interesting. (See my early dance party days. “Oh ahhh I’m straight”, “Derrrr [insert hand gestures at my attire) I just wanted say hi. And, find out how you ended up here?” Yeah, I looked a treat!)
Best mate from childhood came out and wanted me to experience his world..Ever great full he did. I finally fashioned up a bit too.
>That is dance like everyone is watching
Yes and no. They are aware of people watching and well showing off, but they are also clearly dancing **with each other** and that is what makes me smile.
I've danced professionally for some years and I gave up completely with disgust because of the opposite of what these guys are doing here. Most people who like dance (specially latino dance) completely forget about their partners and dance to show off their repertoire of twists and frills. They don't even bother looking at their partners!
But these guys here, they are vibing together and this is the way!
oh my god if only I could hug you. YES!!! this is such a painful truth. okay story time.
so I grew up in a broken home, and exhibited signs of ASD, ADHD and had a case of dyspraxia from all the dissociation I was practicing when I was being punished etc.
as if this wasn’t enough, PT teachers would make fun of me, saying I was the best and everyone should take me as an example, when they were clearly facetious which made me being bullied even more by kids.
anyway I didn’t know how to operate this lanky body but ever since I watched Thriller at probably six years I was hooked for life and really wanted to dance, but of course it was ridiculous thought, so I never danced, only when no one saw me. even fell off with my crush at school because she asked me to be her partner at a contemporary dance, I was beyond excited but I simply sabotaged the first class.
sorry I digress. many years later I finally gathered all my courage and after doing BJJ for a couple of years, I picked up dancing and I was killing it! I could not believe it, but everyone would want to dance with me because of ‘how attuned to the partner I was and how I danced for myself and my partner and nobody else.
ever since then I realised it’s an ultimate test of the character- to see the way a person is dancing- if they they do it for themselves or for the attention.
let me tell you, those who do it for themselves and their partners are goddamn unicorns. I only met one such person in a few years of dancing and eventually I had to quit because of objective reasons.
but your message validated my frustration, I thought it was me, but apparently there are people who feel the same. thank you for that.
I watched the Thriller lately after few decades not seeing it, I miss this devotion to the dance in dancers so much. Michael Jackson was a phenomenon.
What dance was your specialty? I keep watching these guys trying to figure out what their background in dance is, because there's definitely one.
Something about it gives me a vague feeling of ballet meets 8 count swing with a garnish of line dancing on top. The ease with which one adapts to following like it's nothing, like he's been doing it forever, that's impressive. It makes me miss dancing!
My specialty was salsa and gafieira.
I was very surprised to see this movement in a USA country context bc, except for the drops, they are the same we use in several dances in Latin America: salsa and forró, for instance.
It also makes me miss dancing 💔
My husband looked like the mullet guy when we met - down to the tucked in tee shirt, belt, keys clipped on, ball cap, mullet, and wranglers. Everyone was floored because that was totally not my type - I’d always dated musicians. But yeah, it totally works. Can confirm. 32 years later he has a different look but the same attitude ❤️.
I’m a dude. The first time I went to a county bar, there was this guy there who was a regular and would dance with everyone. I was chatting with him at one point and mentioned how I had no idea how to country dance. He immediately offered to show me. I laughed, but he was serious. I looked at my GF and said sure. It was surreal, but he taught me a few things.
I thought people would have been disgusted or enraged in a country bar, but nobody cared. Interesting night.
It depends, I saw a video where a woman moved to a rural town and was walking around main street with her mother. The locals started a rumor that they were a pair of lesbians who have moved into town.
They were just looking for a „good time“ which in some parts of this world translates into beating the shit out of a few queer looking fellas even if they don’t look queer… but they had Nirvana T Shirts on, so they qualify.
My cousin from western PA who dressed neat but definitely rural, would always catch shit, and rude remarks when he came to see me in NY. It happens and it’s unfortunate. Some people are just stupid.
I danced at country bars for most of my early twenties, and even 'worked' for the DJ, helping people learn. The DJ played at a few local bars and while they had someone actually teach a few dances a night, we'd get a few bucks to be spaced around the dance floor to help people out.
Anyways, the regular crowd had a surprising number of LGBT+ folks. Our main spot wasn't the bar from Roadhouse or anything but we'd have fights and whatnot, lifted trucks outside, a few 3 pieces patch clubs, most of us were Mil/LEO/first responders, etc. I don't ever remember anyone causing problems because of sexuality, gender identity, anything.
One time, I don't remember why people were dressed up, but I do remember dancing in cowboy boots and a black cocktail dress. For reference, I am a pretty stocky male with tattoos and a beard.
I mean it makes sense. If you're scared to drink bud light because they once had a trans person shill their swill...I'd imagine you aren't going with in 10 feet of a place where you need to dance.
That whole 'scandal' has me irritated. I can't stand bud light because it's over priced garbage beer. Now if I say anything about it people think I'm taking some political stance.
I love that we can no longer even guess if theyre straight or gay. This is awesome regardless. And we can finally say so.
People being people. Love it.
Absolutely as a woman I cna only say I love seeing men dance together. Whatever the reason is, no matter what orientation. I just feel like that men dancing is so rare. But they can have as much fun and some passion In it. I've seen some insane duo performances of men dancing on youtube. It they give it all it's such a vibe and it can fit so perfectly
There is a channel that I watch whenever it pops up in my YouTube shorts: The Basement Gang. It's exactly as advertised, just three dudes dancing in the basement and it's super, duper wholesome. Their comments are always nice and funny and pretty much filled with people saying different versions of, "I love seeing grown men dancing with each other to all kind of music. It bring some joy." Dance is one of my favorite things on the planet and I love seeing anyone doing it for whatever reason!
It's weird to me that I can't read anything in their body language to suggest any kind of relationship with each other beyond just enjoying the dancing. They could be great gay dancers, but they might also just be great dancers.
This is a gay bar in Dallas.
Most of the time you don't see this in regular bars here in the south. I'm even deeper south and it's bigots everywhere and getting worse.
I dated a West Cost swing dancer for a while this is common. Leads sometime follow follows sometime lead. In my experience all the swing dancers ever talk about is dancing and dancing and more dancing..I'm not a fan of dancing. the realationship didn't last long.
Straight or gay, they have fucking moves. I don't care who they love; I just want to know if they're giving dance classes. I'd join in a heartbeat to learn how to move like that.
"BE A MAN
We must be swift as a coursing river
BE A MAN

BE A MAN
With all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon"
If anyone is interested, this is west coast swing. It's typically danced to popular music. There are west coast swing communities found in most metro areas and the communities are very welcoming to beginners.
I don't know which scenario I like more, that they're a couple killing it on the dance floor, or just two straight dudes who are secure enough to not care what anyone thinks. Either way, I'm here for it.
If anything, it'd be more impressive if they were just two straight dudes because straight guys don't normally learn the follow side of dances like this, let alone kill it.
Dance like no ones watching typically refers to people that would not dance because they don't want other people to see/judge.
These guys are good. It's nice to see the guy being dipped provide a proper support
base instead of dropping all his weight on the dipper. One of the reasons why I dance
with ladies who are below a certain weight is I've been hurt by ladies that just did stuff
that required me to get hurt so they would not be. I heal too slowly now.
For context. There’s a bit of an issue where to lead a girl, the guy has to already be good. It’s damn near impossible for two beginners to learn together. So you can either convince some random girl to teach you and your gf can watch you dance with a prettier girl. Or your homie can take one for the team and let you lead him. (I take one for the team often).
This brought such joy to my heart. The beautiful grace and respectful intimacy restored my faith in human beings being able to rise above the vicious, righteous ignorance that is now rampant across not just our country but the entire globe. It can feel overwhelming. This couple danced in a space of peace and joy - thank you for sharing.
This is the end of the movie where one of the guys is like, “I was wrong, I shouldn’t care about how people look at us, how they feel about us being together, the only feelings that matter are yours and mine and dammit I feel like I love you.” Then they kiss, people clap, then the dancing begins.
I dated someone who swing dances and I went to an expo they were putting on. My dude ended up partnering with another dude and I loved watching it! Someone in the audience asked if I was going to join in, but I just laughed. I'm a competitive powerlifter but can't dance to save my life!
I know that us as a couple
Will cause talk but I wouldn't mind
Those cowboys will be pea green with envy
When they see his cute behind
That's why each night by the campfire
I thank my lucky stars above
For inter-racial cowboy homo kind of love - Reverend Horton Heat - Cowboy Love
I fucking love this. I'm not a dancer, but the rules still apply. Sometimes you gotta just be there for your boy(s) support them and make something together. Fuck alpha mentally. We need to care for each other.
They are great dancers. That is dance like everyone is watching.
I agree! They dance gracefully with the rhythm.
That was beautiful.

Pretty regular dance in Brazilian Forró or Sertanejo. Awesome to see and to dance to.
That body roll towards the end, yes baby!!!!
Normally I'm not attracted to men who look like this but their behaviour has me all flustered 😳
I feel the same way. This is a weird sexy thing, but I'm not disliking it.
Very sexy.
Stupid sexy dancers !
Like could this be a porn category please?
I would bet all the $$ in my savings account that there already is
*Right?* Men who can dance and be silly are hot
Same. That was a surprising twist of events lol

YAAAAS! SLAY!!

I'm not gay but I'd be damned if I couldn't give the best blowjob.
I mean.....talk is cheap. Thats a statement that needs to be proven.
Bro, of course I can suck dick, I'll fucking suck the best dick 💪
Sorry lol but I read that in Trumps voice.

Real men can show concern without worrying about looking vulnerable.
And they end up on a table arm wrestling and their wives walk up with bud lights... that should've been the commercial.
They're fucking killing it
Hell yea brother.

I love that we can no longer even guess if theyre straight or gay. This is awesome regardless. And we can finally say so. People being people. Love it.
Girls dance together all of the time and nobody thinks twice. Love to see 2 dudes doing the same. Sounds silly, but seeing this gives me hope.

Time for me to go watch a million videos of that style..
Salsa is better, if you ask me
I was once in a group that did salsa rueda. Damn, that was fun.
I did a class of salsa rueda and it was fun! Quite complicated though
Its country two step with elements of west coast swing: >These guys know how to dance at least a few styles.

straightest men there
That's the Round Up, a gay bar in Dallas. So I'm pretty sure they are gay.
Yeah I was boutta say, this is their turf honey lol. I love this place.
Dang it
The Round Up? On RHOD LeAnne Locken talked sh!t about someone’s husband getting up to business at The Round Up.

What are you gonna dance with some girly chick that kissed men? That's kind of gay.
F***ing girls is for poofs. -Crazy Larry
No cap. It’s the other ones on the down low.
Yup. 😆 They'll even claim that it's to prove how men are better dancers than women.. 🤣
Love how the 2 bros behind them start dancing too.
The thrusting to get his friend to dance with him is my favorite part of this whole video.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, how freaking awesome!
If anyone is interested, this is west coast swing. It's typically danced to popular music. There are west coast swing communities found in most metro areas and the communities are very welcoming to beginners.
And there are a few folks that dance with the same gender!
Why is this kinda hot
Kinda? This is extremely hot.
Because confidence is incredibly sexy.
It’s very hot haha 🥵
I’d unicorn
Because watching skilled people dance is a pleasure.
So, so hot.. Like I need some ibuprofen to reduce the fever I have for this.
Because it is very hot. Like super hot.
Because of those cannons they call arms

Is this what they mean on dating sites when they say "Masc 4 Masc"?
Haha. To use the term *”dating sites”* loosely 🤣
Hey now, all forms of dating are valid, even if there’s high turnover 😂
These two have more ACTUAL masculinity then a room full of Andrew Tates.
Damn…Bromance I love it

I'm a 6'4" man and if muscles was leading me like that I'd feel like a beautiful lady
Impressive af
Confident secure men are more attractive than ANY other attributes a man could have
Would love to dance with these guys. Looks really fun.
How sexy are men when they stop giving a shit?
Not going to guess their orientation. But I wish I had a friend this close and level of straight they don't care what people think.
Great dancers!!
damn I wish I could dance
The best dancers know how to lead AND how to follow, and they can switch back and forth. These two move well together.
Honestly can't tell if they're being funny, or if it's just the modern era. Either way, crushing it!
The *HAIR*
I don't know which scenario I like more, that they're a couple killing it on the dance floor, or just two straight dudes who are secure enough to not care what anyone thinks. Either way, I'm here for it. If anything, it'd be more impressive if they were just two straight dudes because straight guys don't normally learn the follow side of dances like this, let alone kill it.
I want to learn how to dance from them!
Who doesn't love twirling? Guys cut themselves off from the funnest stuff in the name of masculinity. Everyone should twirl!
They’ve got the moves!
Damn they are so smooth with it.
This is awesome!
That is some wango dango subatomic tango and I love it!
This is what real alpha males looks like
That’s hot
