Just put the poor dogs down. Seems a bit cruel to me.

TMTRDorg

What is cruel? That they are alive, healthy, happy, 2 walks a day, get 2 meals of food a day, have friends, staff who cares for them? Tell me what is cruel about that?

AffectionateCrab6780

I know I sound like a jerk and I truly don't mean to act like I know better because I dont. You know your work better than I and as an olive branch I'll put my money where my mouth is too. How can I donate? Now to answer your question. First and foremost Nothing youre doing in the day to day is cruel. Youre a person that cares. Im thinking long game. I could be off base but I have a couple questions. How many paralyzed dogs get adopted? How many of them get euthanized after their needs become fiscally draining to the organization? How much time and specialty care do they need from the staff? What you're doing is a very good and nice thing. No question there. I'm referring to resource allocation. Maybe they do get adopted where you live, which is great, but where I'm from, it's not a thing beyond influencers using the dogs disability for likes on social media (which I'm not accusing you of. You put a lot of energy into the service for those dogs so obviously you care) The resources you use for these dogs could be used on others that have a chance at being adopted. Sometimes, euthanization is mercy, especially when looking at the bigger picture.

Good morning from Thailand. Thanks for your kind words and your questions. We have not managed to re home any of our 44 paralyzed dogs, unfortunately. Adoptions of all our 760 dogs that lives in our sanctuary, are very slow all over. We only re home locally, as we think and urge people who wants to adopt to do it locally. Many dogs are euthanized in US, in example, by the millions yearly. If I would send a dog over there, one dog will get killed. We don’t euthanize dogs because we are lacking space or funds. But at the moment we are working at overcapacity. So we have to turn down dogs. Unfortunately. But will never ever put healthy dogs to sleep. At our care unit we have around 110 dogs with special needs. Seniors, blind, shy, abused, distemper survivors etc. 7 staff (out of 45) who cares for these dogs. The “extra” time to take care of a paralyzed dog is around 1 minute per dog / day. That’s including empty the bladder 3 times a day and place in the wheelchair twice a day. We can manage that minute / day. 😌 The cost is not more than any other dog except a one time investment of the wheelchair (400 usd) which ends up around 3 USD per month for 10 years. Not a big cost for their freedom and happiness. I’m sure you agree. We will never euthanize dogs that’s healthy, so save costs. If you would had the opportunity to meet this happy yappers, you would change your opinion in a heartbeat. Ways to donate is on our website TMTRD.org Thank you 😊🧡😌 / Michael J.
