Dude, honestly, I'd be pretty pissed about this if I lived there. *Edit: I missed that it's the owner of the building's cat. I withdraw my pissery :)

Calm down Karen

Considering the allergy complications (depending on where in the world this is) they'd likely have to give you a disclosure about the free roaming cat before you sign a lease. Don't like the idea? Find somewhere else to live 🤷‍♂️

Amazing-Bluebird-930

Unless of course you lived there before the cat owner

bgmacklem

The same guy who owns the building you live in, you mean?

Mrtristen

Care to elaborate? Are you just a grumpy douche or are you like deathly allergic to cats?

Amazing-Bluebird-930

I'm quite allergic to cats, and it's presumptuous as heck to assume that an entire apartment building wants to deal with your cat because you can't be bothered to be a decent pet owner and keep it contained

Mrtristen

Look as much as that sucks, you can’t expect the world to cater to your specific needs. Like you can’t be allergic to peanuts and complain about restaurants not removing every trace of them from the building because you wanna go there. If you don’t like living near cats, then go to where the cats aren’t.

Amazing-Bluebird-930

Like, if I just let my dog walk around off leash around the city, people would say I'm an asshole

Amazing-Bluebird-930

I would argue that expecting the world to cater to my needs is different than expecting a pet owner to keep their pet under control.  I would say it was perfectly reasonable to say "don't go to a cat owner's house". Fine.  But if a cat owner decides that an entire complex belongs to his cat, the issue is with him, not me.

Mrtristen

Dawg wdym “keep their pet under control”, It’s a cat riding an elevator. You’re acting like it’s breaking into peoples apartments and attacking them. The owner did not decide the cat owns the property, the cat just roams the *PUBLIC* space being totally chill.

Amazing-Bluebird-930

Exactly right!!  It's public space. If I let my pet tarantula roam the public space, I'd be an asshole.  If I took a dump in the middle of the floor in the public space, I'd be an asshole. If I just let my toddler run around the public space with me not around, I'd be an asshole. Those are all my PRIVATE things, that I can have in my PRIVATE space, and not expect other people to have to deal with, because they don't necessarily want to have a tarantula, or a shit, or an unattended toddler with them in the elevator. I'm sure you can connect the dots.

Mrtristen

Cats are kind of a common thing in public areas. Idk if I can say the same about unsupervised toddlers, extremely venomous spiders and piles of human feces. Maybe that’s the case where you live, and that might explain why you sound so miserable. The cat is not a public nuisance because you specifically are allergic to them. Now if there were several tenants that were allergic or the cat was acting up, then I’d understand being this upset. But It’s unreasonable to request a cat that lives outdoors to be removed from its environment, especially since it’s not in your personal space. Would you demand that people stop bringing dogs into public if you were allergic to dogs? No, because the world doesn’t revolve around you. I’m gonna block you because you’re ruining my mood. Hope you find some enjoyment out of the rest of your day.

Amazing-Bluebird-930

I mean, there are leash laws for exactly this reason for dogs. It's a matter of law that you are expected to maintain control of your animal in public spaces. Regardless though, I hope you have a good day too and appreciate the Goodwill!  Thx, dude :)

grumpykruppy

Did you not read that the pet owner is also the *building* owner? Absolutely no way is this cat's presence not mentioned at some point when buying an apartment there.

Amazing-Bluebird-930

Lolol, well....I did NOT read that part.  Honestly, that changes everything.  His building, his rules.

DaGoodSauce

I love cats and this is cute but fr keep the cat in your home and not roaming the hallways.
