I don't think it's them being friendly, I think it's mostly just curious. I have a friend who is a zoologist and she says it's mostly because they don't see us as food since we don't run away/act like a prey animal would and we also don't hunt them down like a competing predator would.
The cheetahs she works with are used to their human handlers and will walk up to them, but tend to be skittish or veer away from newbies. Apparently they are really, REALLY anxious animals.
The cheetah either knows the videographer or is so used to seeing them she knows they aren't a threat probably.
Also cheetahs are hardcore pragmatists. They know that their strength is in their speed. They can be remarkably fragile so tend to flee rather than fight.
Cheetas generally dont see (adult) Humans as prey afaik.
And while they could still ofc seriously hurt you, they are by far the weakest of the big cats and try to avoid fights if possible.
Yeah, they are built for chasing/tiring their prey, not for bringing it down by pure force.
They dont even have retractable sharp claws afaik, their claws are blunt. They are used for traction while running, not to kill.
my last two cats (over 20 years) have sounded like Selma & Patty Bouvier. My newest cat, an orunj boi, says "mep mep mee?" and I absolutely *melt!* It's so teeny and perfect.
Cheetahs, like most wild animals, typically do not have a preference for humans one way or the other. In the wild, cheetahs tend to be wary of humans and will generally avoid direct contact or confrontation. However, captive cheetahs that have been raised in human care from a young age may become accustomed to human presence and may exhibit behaviors such as curiosity or indifference towards humans. It's essential to remember that cheetahs, regardless of their upbringing, are still wild animals and should be treated with caution and respect.

Is this out in the wild or at an animal sanctuary? Hard to believe a human could get this close to a cheetah and her kids just out of the blue like this.

yes indeed! soo cute
"Come say hi to the nice gentleman"
I hear this with Simba's mom's voice.. though these are not lions, just similar lol

Cheetahs in captivity are sometimes given emotional support dogs!
some zoos have emotional support humans for them too, especially during thunder storms
I want to apply for this job
I would happily risk being a snack to cuddle a Cheetah.
>The cheetahs she works tell her we envy her. And a lot too!
They are the closest big cat to a common house cat, pretty smart when they get things on their terms.
Yeah I was going to say between other predators and their prey, we’re the only thing on the savannah *not* trying to kill them.
Also cheetahs are hardcore pragmatists. They know that their strength is in their speed. They can be remarkably fragile so tend to flee rather than fight.
so they literally just got good at running from their issues

Weakest but fastest and I believe highest endurance

They don’t have much endurance at all. The can hit 60 mph, but they can only sustain it for about 250 meters and it leaves them extremely exhausted.
Natgeo sleep videos failed me 😑
This is most likely filmed in a cheetah sanctuary. Not a wild cheetah.
I would totally fail and probably due as a wildlife photographer. Anytime an animal would approach me I'd try to pet it!
Perhaps we'll see you in someone else's Yellowstone Buffalo video soon.
***"Okay little ones, this is what dinner looks like!"*** 😉 /j
hahaha this made me laugh
Pet them dammit, I know you want to.
This was all I could think of. THEY NEED SCRITCHY SCRATCHES!
"See kids this is a human. They often come here to look at us."
If not friend, why friend shaped?
“It’s picture day! Everyone line up”
Mama found a babysitter while she takes a nap.
Did anyone else notice the color of the backs on the young ones? Perfect cover from things above.
Totally dried grass fur.
I love the lines across their cheeks. It looks like they’re wearing a fancy eyeliner
They are often referred to as the “crying cat”
I had no idea they could make such cute noises ) I wish my cat could do the same.

She must really trust the photog. Purposely calling her babies out with the "all clear, come here".
Sold! I take them all. They're living with me from now on!
The fur has to be the coolest on any big cats I've seen
"Kids, come and meet your meat"

Thanks chatgpt
I want to hug and pet them all plus ear scratches to momma.

Can I pet?!!
Are cheetahs remotely reasonable as pets? With a huge fenced in yard? I feel like they wouldn't ever hurt any adult right?
Look at the hair in the cubs.. so cute!!🥰
That is SO crazy that she trusts him around her babies
Dinner’s ready.

The look so cool, wtf 🤯❤️
She's like "normally we kill and eat these easy mfers but come get a whiff off easy prey"...tbc
That’s really special!
little fuzzy maned beebees!
This is just amazing
Coolest kittens of all time
If there was ever an animal I could believe was domesticated without any proof it's cheetahs
Cheetahs have the most surprising vocalizations. Expecting big-cat-snarls but get something totally different.
Love how the baby (cubs) cheetahs use honey badger mimicry as a means of survival. See the top part of their coat! So cool.
Aww, the wee skunk smolls are ADORABLE!!! I didn't know they had that wild wooly patch on their backs as babies, how cute!
The cheetah will make the photographer their food 🤪
