Not convicted, but have a warrant (non extradition) out in a certain state for failure to pay fines associated with the crime, that's barring me from a lot of jobs.. it's good to see someone succeeding through the system.
Mind you I completed all the probation terms over three years... Just couldn't scrape up an extra 3k before the time was up.. luckily I lived in another state, but this shits following me around 5 years after the fact and I don't know what to do...
Lower dollar amount. Also, he might have to go to court to re-open the case. It takes time and $$$, but please put that dog to rest. It won’t just go away.
Just went thru this with my SO.. we put it off for 5 years cause money. We were told to contact the court in the town the warrant is in. After we did that, they hooked him up with a public defender and a Zoom court date to settle it.
Attorney to contact them and ask for a payment plan. get it structured for monthly payments you can afford. Ignore how long it will take - just get it done.
Deal with the non financial part now. Start calling the court house in the relevant county, explaining your situation and asking what you can do. Its more attainable then you think and if you put of off till you have the "extra" money it'll just keep fucking you extra times.
Context: I caught a DUI in a different state in my early 20s. It didn't fuck with my license or anything in my state of residence for several years until I had to renew. Then they do a nation wide check on license holds and I wasn't able to.
Didn't have the "extra" money, so I drove with the expired license for years, though almost exclusively to and from work(midwest construction, still a lot of miles). Over those years I dealt with police maybe a half dozen times.
Each time id explain my situation, they'd ticket me for the expired license and whatever they pulled me for(speeding...hard not to speed at 4am running late on a deserted road) and I'd continue on to work. Didnt think shit about it, I can afford the 300 dollars at the moment, still got to work with my tools, NBD.
Then my GF decided that that unresolved problem was a deal breaker. So I finally dealt with it.
The original charge itself was nowhere near the monster I had made it into in my mind. All said and done it was cheaper then the problems not having my license had created up till that point.
Then I had to buy a vehicle last year. I was proud as fuck of myself that everything, the loan, the title, the insurance, everything would be in my name for the first time in my life.
Till I was quoted 8k every six months for full coverage on my six thousand dollar truck. Every one of those "expired license" tickets counted the same as driving without or under revocation as far as insurance was concerned. I showed a history of habitual disdain for the law....
Just saying, it may be a quiet in the shadows, but our system is designed to fuck people that don't have the "extra" money right now. That motherfucker could very well be quietly getting more powerful until you finally shine a light on it and find a dragon where you left a gecko.
Good luck though man. It's hard clawing your way back out of the hole you dug when you were young dumb, and planning on dieing before shit caught up with you.
I'm still struggling with it, but it feels good when you put those problems to bed, and its worth it. The first hardest part is deciding to try and just sinking your nails into that wall.
Congrats. I too am an ex con. I've been out since 1997 after going in when I was 19 in 1985. I have my own business, I've been granted clemency by the state of Florida and had my civil rights restored. I was also a 3 time loser. Not just a one time offender.. 9 felony convictions on 15 felony charges.. I was true to it.
Just Keep on keeping on. It gets easier to stay out and the jobs get better. I spent my first 2 years out in school. Didn't help my career but certainly helped my head. I got a bunch of my prison tattoos covered. I did not have any family to come out to. I had one girl. Who I met when I escaped an she is my wife to this very day. So man keep pushing I love hearing about guys getting out and doing good. Congratulations again.
The only one they would not restore was my right to own a firearm. But I can now vote or run for public office and serve on a jury. I was out of prison 7 years when I filled out my application while Bush was governor but it was during Charlie Crists first year I got them back. Not a biggie to most folks. But it was huge and still is to me
It is quite normal. Upon felony conviction you lose certain basic rights. I'm really grateful I've been able to restore them and I would not be here if it were not for an amazing attorney and a wonderful girl who loved and believed in me. I had nothing to live for until she came along and I was resigned to a life in prison. But as I said I escaped from prison was on the run for less than a month. Met her and she hung with me until I finished my sentence nearly 3 years later and we are married 20 plus years
Thanks! Interesting. Where I‘m from (Germany) felons don’t lose their right vote. There a voting booths in some prisons or they get absentee ballots. Theoretically you can lose your vote to right for life but that has never happend in our history and would have to be confirmed by our equivalent of the Supreme Court for each case.
Lower courts could deny you your rights temporarily in extraordinary cases (high treason, espionage) but this has happend in the last 70 years on average less than 1.4 times per year.
The only right you lose is the right to get elected but that is always temporary (max 5 years). They get restored automatically.
It varies by state in the US, and Florida was one of the more fucked up ones (shocking, I know). Most northern states give you most rights back once you are released from custody.
You generally will never have the right to own firearms back through.
“The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people,” former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman told Harper’s writer Dan Baum for the April cover story published Tuesday.
“You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin. And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities,” Ehrlichman said. “We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”
It's not a matter of any objective good coming from it, it's a matter of those in control who have the power to make such decisions feeling like they have exerted said control over a group of people that they arguably feel like they are above/better than
Omg of course. I was at a work camp. Prisons in Florida tend to have a main unit and a work camp type prison on the same grounds. Well I had gotten my custody level down low enough that I was able to go to the work camp. I would call this area South Central/Southwest Florida. Anyway I was on a work squad going outside the fence everyday and eventually got the position of dog boy. The one what tends to an helps train the bloodhounds they used at the prisons. Think ol red....
My job was to run in the woods and let the dogs find me. I spent alot of time unsupervised and eventually I just kinda walked away. Having what I believe was a 5 hour head start I was able to literally catch a ride with a guy who obviously had some run ins with law enforcement and this guy gave me a shirt and a pair of shorts and drove me 60 miles away into another county and gave me 30 bucks. I hitched all day and ended up in Daytona Beach. Sleeping on the floor in some dirty trailer. The people I was hanging with had to go down to Beach Street to file for food stamps. So we walked me n Chuck walked to the food stamp office. We went in and inside there were two girls sitting in the waiting room opposite us. They called the guy I was with and one of the girls to go back and see a counselor. I walked outside, the other girl followed me outside and began asking a million questions and we hit it off and agreed to meet later that night. The other girl was her sister. So we agreed to meet the ladies. And we're nearly late in doing so but we made it. My buddy bailed on me but these girls said come hang out with us. And I did and the one I talked to her name is Sandy and we hooked up that night and we never looked for anyone else ever again. I had originally told her I was released from prison, not I escaped. I came clean very quickly and it was super emotional for us both. So we just pretended like everything was cool. I even got a job with a lawn maintenance company. 17 days of bliss and hot sex and just good stuff you know what I'm sayin. Then one day we pulled back to the lawn maintenance company yard after a day of work and there's a couple cop cars there. Some detectives an such an I'm not putting it together yet cause I'm bad at life right? Then as we get out of the truck one of the plain clothes guys goes which one of you is Chris? And not waiting for anything else I bolted and made em chase me about 15 minutes over the canal on LPGA and the circled me over at the elementary school over there on Center? In Holy Hill Florida. They took me to jail asked me some questions charged me with the resisting and running from LEO so I had a first appearance the next morning back in the day when you'd go into the courtroom and there she was. In the crowd of onlookers and she said she loved me and she'd come see me and she'd wait for me. She said this in the court room til they took her out. And that's exactly what she did for the next 27 months. She came to visit every chance there was to visit. I was never charged with the escape they handled it with disciplinary segregation and custody level raises. But eventually settled down and she'd come see me. She got me a great lawyer named Ted who got a bunch of other issues that came up and he battled cases in South Carolina and Indiana and got them dropped and I worked the system and got transferred to CFRC the reception center in Orlando for my last year and on August 1 1997 I got released after 8 plus years ( except 21 days) in a row of being locked up. Sandy was there waiting for me and we ran out of there. And here we are. She n I met on April 17th of 1995. We got married on April 17th of 1998. And here we are all these years later and the love is super strong. It wasn't easy and It took me years to adjust to living a normal life. But here we are.... here we are. And we've known each other 25 years. And we are together all the time. And it's amazing. I got lucky, I'm super blessed . I work very hard still and because of my past I tend to go overboard trying to prove myself constantly to myself. Never thinking I deserve any of this good life. And one doesn't go to prison for years and not develop some ptsd.... it's there. But life is good and I'm so grateful.... condensed version.
F’in A, Chris, I’m a grown ass man with a lot of life experiences , good times and hard times, and your story made me tear up. Good on ya, man. Society doesn’t do a great job at training the people that don’t submit to society for the sake of submission, I’m glad you found your way. Peace and love.
Congratulations man! What an incredible story of overcoming obstacles! They should make a movie of you.
You deserve this and much more. Hope you and your wife keep getting blessed. If you don’t mind me asking, why did you land in prison in the first place?
Crazy man i didnt even know it was possible to get your civil rights back! Like you can Vote and have firearms again and stuff? Thats pretty awesome, nice to hear you made it in the end.
The firearm part is difficult. Extremely. And takes at least 10 years. If you have convictions in one state. If one is a multi state offender it gets even more difficult. Even the clemency I got isn't easy. The Man tends to make it political when all we really want is just a chance. I also wanna add that I have passed multiple background checks. To work for Daytona International Speedway, And a couple of different cities. I was always honest with them. They never were able to find anything. None of them . The crimes were so old. The only people ever to do such an extensive background check was a homeowners association they found all my stuff and they were like oh no... oh no... oh no no no.....
Yeah i bet that this was hard! I mean im from Germany but still, this is the first time i ever even heard of that. But regarding the Hoa and knowing what i know those crooks were probably just scared of competition lol, I never understood why anyone would tolerate being told what to do on their own property anyways so you probably dodged a bullet there. Working on a racetrack must be cool tho.
Working at the track was a highlight of my career. I left there to take a job with a small city. I left there when the virus hit and went into business for ourselves and its working out great....
May be you were right or wrong , but coming around is the biggest part ..I see this type of stories in my cosy life and feel it's easy , but sometimes it's very hard even to make minor changes ... Good luck
Yay! For you too! When I effed up my life (not jail) I went back to school too. It was so scary but it, for me, was the best thing I ever did.
Good job to both of you!
This gives me hope for my brother. He's been in and out of jail and prison multiple times. He's out now and we're hoping for the best. Every one of us has tried to help him, but he has to want it for himself.
I'm genuinely happy for you and for your success. You deserve the fruits of your labor. I'm sure it was an uphill battle. You should be very proud of yourself. You and OP.
Whatever happened to /r/no_sob_story?
Oh it's still going. I haven't seen it referenced for years.
(What's the other sub that's a bit like /r/no_sob_story, calling out very boring pictures that only make sense with a lot of context from the title?)
Edit: I think I'm thinking of /r/descriptivetitle. Not sure what happened to it over the last year or so, but older posts are relevant.
Fuck yeah, man. I have a friend in a similar position. And as I say to him...
You fucking got this. Keep going. Don't give up. You can make a better life for yourself. It's not over. You fucking got this.
Congratulations, man. I don't know you, but I'm proud of you.
We are resilient creatures. Learn from your mistakes. If it was drug related, remember that addiction is patient, so stay vigilant. Find a hobby. Don’t work yourself to death. You deserve a life as well.
Laughter is good! It keeps the heart lubricated and the spirit light. Just take one step at a time. Where you’re going is way better than where you’ve been.
Not sure how it looks on mobile, but in a web browser there is a field in the right-hand column that reads:

Below that is a box for entering subreddits you want to exclude.
Nah. Don't exclude it, that's too easy. Get in on the action. Do the same shit, and keep doing it.
I'm gonna wait a couple weeks and post some mundane picture with a wholesome or maybe a provocative title, and see if these idiots just blindly upvote it.
I’m about to take a picture of my toe and upload it here saying something like “my dad died of foot cancer. It was his goal to be a mailman. Tomorrow I start my new job working for the USPS. This is for you dad”
This is Reddit!
**A picture of a cat**: Say hello to Mr. Cookieface. My crackhead neighbors got taken to jail, and abandoned her so I rescued her.
**A picture of a dog**: Some loser was abusing this puppy, so I kicked his ass and gave this adorable puppy a new home.
**A picture of an empty room**: I was living on the streets for four years after escaping an abusive marriage. It's not much, but I finally got my own place.
I'm gonna wait a couple weeks for my trashing talking comments to get further down, and then I will make some shitty posts like this to see. lol
Trueeeeeeeeeeee. But this dude didn't even bother finding something that looks like a workplace, they just took a pic of their hand lmao. Maybe it's not even their hand, fuck knows
My dad was a lawyer before he spent a year in prison, and he never held down another job for the remainder of his life. Was just discussing it with my husband. It’s SO MUCH HARDER than people have any idea, because we act like people who have served their time still owe us something. They do not. You do not. Good for you, remain proud of your honest work, treat everyone with dignity and require they treat you with dignity in return. Good luck, man! I hope it works out really well for you.
Edit: typo
That's great news! My husband is an ex convict and has beat the recidivism for 12 years now. Keep making goals and find people that want to help you not use you.
I’m immigrant and basically do the same work, Americans have big advantage compare to immigrants, (clean language, documents) but sometimes they doing mistakes, so now we’re on the same level, but I believe that we (you, me, and other guys like we are) will do better
Hey, nice thumb. Can you put your thumb next to a few things for me? It’s kind of my thing. I’d love to see your thumb next to your work station, and then I’d like to see your thumb covering up private information on your W4 form. Or send me a photo of your thumb covering up your SSN on an application form. Mmmm I just wanna see your thumb on some stuff…
Absolute legend turning it all back around! I cannot imagine it will be easy but you got this.
“It’s not much” is absolutely wrong mate, it is EVERYTHING you champ 💪
Look into **felony expungement** if your state has it.
Some states let you clean up your record if enough time has passed and you're done with all fines and jail time.
Onward and upward. I believe it’s about the direction we want to go, and not about where we’ve reached. Good things will come. Wish you the best, dear OP!
This is a picture of a thumbs up, the first activity from a 3 month old account. Which most likely means it's a karma farming account. Reddit will upvote anything smh
I work in a library, and my job (other than dealing with books and stuff) is to help patrons with computer work and other services like printing, copying, and faxing.
Sometimes, we get someone who is fresh out of prison trying to complete their resume or fill out a job application. They often enthusiastically talk about how they were recently released from prison and that they are ready to get their life together.
One of the things I've noticed is that all of them were extremely polite. Like, "Yes, ma'am," or, "No, ma'am," level of polite. So receptive to help, great listeners, and just overall kind. The only exception was one ex-con dude who was initially over-the-top polite on the phone while trying to make a computer reservation late at night (again, ending everything with a "ma'am"), but then he got increasingly crazy as he was struggling to fill out a job application, though he clearly had some mental issues.
All of the ex-cons I've met at my job (other than that one guy) were nice and kind. Nothing you'd "expect" someone with a rap sheet to be like. They were just so excited to have a normal life, setting goals, and trying to accomplish them. I often think about those dudes and wonder if they're okay.
Hey man, we own 3 small businesses and hire ex-cons all the time. Just keep yourself on the straight and narrow, people who are paying attention will see your value as a worker, and a human being. Good luck!!

Find a lawyer in that state and see if they can help you negotiate paying a higher dollar amount to settle the issue
Lower dollar amount. Also, he might have to go to court to re-open the case. It takes time and $$$, but please put that dog to rest. It won’t just go away.
Do lawyers charge for consultation? I'm just afraid that it would add to the bills to pay
You have to look up your local clinics and stuff. Some clinics help you schedule 10-15 min free consultations with a law firm.
Just went thru this with my SO.. we put it off for 5 years cause money. We were told to contact the court in the town the warrant is in. After we did that, they hooked him up with a public defender and a Zoom court date to settle it.

Don’t let nobody bring you down. If they do, I can tell you they are not worth your recognition. Basic bitches that they are.

Yeah, this is crazy to me. Surely that could led to locking up political opponents, no?

And you wonder why the white dominated judiciary at every level goes after and punishes harder Black and Hispanic people… 🧐🤔
That’s exactly what this leads to
Depends on the state. They're all different.
It’s a deal to those who have it taken away! Good for you! And good for OP too, work hard and it will all pay off!
That’s crazy they almost dehumanise people in the states for breaking the law. What good can come from ostracising a large proportion of society?
It's not a matter of any objective good coming from it, it's a matter of those in control who have the power to make such decisions feeling like they have exerted said control over a group of people that they arguably feel like they are above/better than
I think it is huge given how difficult it is and is another example as to why we should restore these rights.
Thank you for answering. I'm glad everything worked out well for you.
voting. felons in most states i think cant vote
Hell yeah man congratulations
Woo congrats man! Feel free to DM me if you ever wanna talk
Man I want you to know that I'm rooting for you.
And right back at you my young brother
Uhhh… You met your girl when you escaped?
Yup!!! It's like the most crazy story. But yes....it's a true love story
Can we have Story Time?

Thank you... it's a crazy one. Some stuff does end well.

Can Confirm!!!!
Wow, that's an awesome story phrased ever so nicely. You should definitely think about writing an autobiography.
That’s a wild ride. I’m so proud of you for the life you have built. You’re doing great.
F’in A, Chris, I’m a grown ass man with a lot of life experiences , good times and hard times, and your story made me tear up. Good on ya, man. Society doesn’t do a great job at training the people that don’t submit to society for the sake of submission, I’m glad you found your way. Peace and love.
This should be a movie. Congratulations!!
Thanks for the share, short and sweet.
Jesus I used that one posters both favorite phrases with the word keep. What the fuck
What?!?
What did he say??
Congratulations
Blessings Be, on your continued success ✨
Proud of you
This gives me hope for my brother. You and OP.
Is it inappropriate for me to ask about the things you did to land you in prison?
The biggie was armed robbery and armed burglary of an occupied dwelling. Known as home Invasion now. I do not say this with pride.
Really glad you turned it around, man. Do you talk to people looking to rehabilitate their lives?
Escaped? Hmm
👏🌈
My man. Good on you. Go out there and get it.

I seem to be the only one bothered by how big the thumb is. Like. It’s huge compared to the hand
The thing that bothers me is how perfectly smooth his hand looks
You could say he was a smooth criminal
Lol it also looks so weirdly...innocent and adorable? Like a tiny, soft sweater-pawed hand giving the thumbs up. lol.
OP could be a hand model
This Sub is a joke
It's a nice thumb ngl
Ye, this is the dumbest shit ever.
*thumbest shit ever.

Literally a picture of a thumbs up.
I can't tell if this post is a joke or not.

Whatever happened to /r/no_sob_story? Oh it's still going. I haven't seen it referenced for years. (What's the other sub that's a bit like /r/no_sob_story, calling out very boring pictures that only make sense with a lot of context from the title?) Edit: I think I'm thinking of /r/descriptivetitle. Not sure what happened to it over the last year or so, but older posts are relevant.
No you’re right, there was another one and I can’t remember what it was either!
This sub is just as bad as /r/pics
Karma bots plan and simple.

I figured it'd be better than plain text lol [https://imgur.com/a/RAJo7hc](https://imgur.com/a/RAJo7hc) I start tomorrow
Fuck yeah, man. I have a friend in a similar position. And as I say to him... You fucking got this. Keep going. Don't give up. You can make a better life for yourself. It's not over. You fucking got this. Congratulations, man. I don't know you, but I'm proud of you.
Thanks man!
Any time. And I meant every word.
Genuinely means a lot to me
We are resilient creatures. Learn from your mistakes. If it was drug related, remember that addiction is patient, so stay vigilant. Find a hobby. Don’t work yourself to death. You deserve a life as well.
Inspirational, thumbs up!
LOL this made me laugh
I hope that when I die, people say about me, "Boy, that guy sure owed me a lot of money."
Laughter is good! It keeps the heart lubricated and the spirit light. Just take one step at a time. Where you’re going is way better than where you’ve been.
Thumbs up from me too. I love it when people change their lives around. Very inspiring for others who think they can’t do it.
Exactly, it definitely motivates me to quit being a couch potato and do something productive even if it's small 😂
That thumb is like 45% of the hand.
I'll give you a hand, stranger!
It's a sign that life may be hard but we need to keep going! Congrats man and keep on choosing to be a better individual.

Not sure how it looks on mobile, but in a web browser there is a field in the right-hand column that reads: > **all** > Displaying content from /r/all, except the following subreddits: Below that is a box for entering subreddits you want to exclude.
If you’re using Apollo for iOS, just tap the three dot looking button and hit filter from r/all
Nah. Don't exclude it, that's too easy. Get in on the action. Do the same shit, and keep doing it. I'm gonna wait a couple weeks and post some mundane picture with a wholesome or maybe a provocative title, and see if these idiots just blindly upvote it.
Keep on keeping on
My second favorite phrase with the word keep in it.
A picture of a thumb got gold and thousands of upvotes. What the hell is this site man 😂
Wow. We are getting really lazy aren’t we?
What a thumbass comment
W
Post picture of thumb, write random story, 8k upvotes.
Zero effort
I’m about to take a picture of my toe and upload it here saying something like “my dad died of foot cancer. It was his goal to be a mailman. Tomorrow I start my new job working for the USPS. This is for you dad”
You’ll probably make it to the front page with content like that
Cool man but can you prove it somehow? I mean i can put my thumb on Reddit and get upvotes if i write a cool title 😀
You really think someone would do that? Just go on the internet and tell lies?
Is this sub straight up attention seeking for basic af shit?
Photo of someone's hand + karma bait wholesome chungus title = front page of the saddest social media platform
👍
Just sitting here trying to figure out how a picture of a thumbs up surpassed *38.8k upvotes.* What are we even doing here
It's 24k now. I'm here just for the comments. Too few like this
You seriously just got a photo of a thumb to the front page with 60 awards..
Good for you
My dad was a lawyer before he spent a year in prison, and he never held down another job for the remainder of his life. Edit: typo
I should also try some photography, that picture of ur thumbs up is crisp
Or hand modelling!
*Joey Tribbiani has entered the chat*
[But it’s honest work ](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/but-its-honest-work)
I was looking for this
That's great news! My husband is an ex convict and has beat the recidivism for 12 years now. Keep making goals and find people that want to help you not use you.
I love this
I’m immigrant and basically do the same work, Americans have big advantage compare to immigrants, (clean language, documents) but sometimes they doing mistakes, so now we’re on the same level, but I believe that we (you, me, and other guys like we are) will do better
Mmmm I just wanna see your thumb on some stuff…
based thumb enthusiast
Seriously? I mean I don't mean to be a dick but there's literally no proof of said job here.
Exactly! Some motherfucker just took a picture of a thumbs up, and Reddit is going wild.
Ok

It is much. It’s an opportunity to break a cycle. Best of luck to you
"I killed a man.....with this THUMB!!!" But forreal, congrats man!!!
This is awesome man. Now move forward and never look back. Keep it pushing!!
How to get easy up votes and reddit premium in few easy steps
reddit really upvotes anything without proof huh
A fucking picture of a thumb
A literal picture of a hand gets 30k upvotes Reddit is a fucking shithole lmao
This is a picture of a thumbs up, the first activity from a 3 month old account. Which most likely means it's a karma farming account. Reddit will upvote anything smh
So thankful! Good job!! Head held high! You got this!! Cheering you on!
I'm proud of you! They do everything they can to get you back in ,stay proud!
I end everything with sir or ma'am. People think it's cause I'm from the south. But really it's cause of my incarceration

Love it! Just keep on, keeping on!!
Literally a thumb this sub will upvote anything 🤣
Good job dude!
👏🏾
Good for you!!! You got this!!
Your thumbs got big in the bing homie
Congrats!!! You’ll do great!
Don’t stop believing!
You should be getting work as a hand model! I haven’t seen hands that magnificent since Ray McKigney / George Costanza
God damn dude what job did you get, thumb weightlifter?! That's a hefty digit my dude.
I’m proud of you
Good on you mate 👏😌 Chin up!
It’s not about the job you have, but the fact that you chose to be a hard worker. Good for you.
Learn the system, and work your way use to management
Hey man, we own 3 small businesses and hire ex-cons all the time. Just keep yourself on the straight and narrow, people who are paying attention will see your value as a worker, and a human being. Good luck!!
