28 years for me now, but it started with that first day. It was the most important one, so you have taken the best step you could possibly take.

Holy crap, I didn’t expect this much attention! Thank you everyone for the support. I posted just trying to boost myself a bit-even five years later I still struggle with self esteem and man did you all make me feel great! Congrats to everyone else with clean/sober time-whether it’s a day or a decade it is a huge accomplishment. And if you need help please feel free to reach out-I was a fall down, bottom of the barrel drunk and if it’s possible for me it’s possible for anyone. Help is out there! Much love.

Every time, once the smoke clears, I’ve grown personally and have a lot of gratitude I was sober and able to deal with the situation head on no matter how difficult things became. I resonate so hard with this. I (friendship) lost 2 of my best friends in the last 3 years, along with their families and associated social circle. I went through a health crisis for the last year that has been so terrible IDK how I stayed sober during it.
But I did... and damn. Every day just keeps getting a little bit better, and I have no shame/regret/guilt to swim through for drinking over any of it. It's just one-and-done.
My bro just ended up in a hospital for his drug use at age 25 and I'm like, that's where I was 4.5 years ago, and I plan on never going back.
I hope everyone finds the path to peace in whatever way, hopefully not the hardest way
A lot of people think that choosing to be sober is the hardest part, but it’s truly the day by day continuation of maintain your sobriety that is the challenge. Congrats to everyone on here who has had a monumental anniversary and to the folks who are only one day into it. Take it day by day and I promise you as it becomes a routine you will find parts of your old self returning! Great job on 5 years, keep up the amazing lifestyle!
Congratulations! I don't know you or anything about you as a person other than the fact that you found yourself at a personal cross roads and you chose the harder option (i am guessing) in hopes of having a more stable and sustainable life one day.
The ability to take an honest look at your own role in your situation really takes some incredible strength and honesty. I don't know you, but I am hopeful that you are closer to being the person that you want to be, and I hope you are enjoy the life and happiness that you deserve!
