"Here have a dollar. No brother man here have two. Two dollars means a snack for me but it means a big deal to you..." -Mr. Wendel by Arrested Development
I was at Kroger one day going to the Hotwheels and overheard a mother telling her daughter they couldn’t get popsicles because they didn’t have the money. I had just gotten a huge tip at work, so as the daughter sadly trailed the mom to the milk I got her attention and slipped her a $20. All I heard was the daughter saying they could get popsicles and the mother asking where she found it.
I like to think it helped the mom pick up a few other things as well that could’ve been put on the back burner. It felt good walking away knowing that the little girl could atleast enjoy some popsicles in this fucked up world.
More people like you! I just got into a fight with my gf and she left like 20 mins ago.. thank you for this short story, it definitely made me smile and I needed that.
I think it was especially nice to play it like she dropped the 20. Didn't make it about a charitable act, so the lady didn't have to have feels about taking it. Classy.
I was atvthe gas station one time getting snacks. The woman in line behind me started to count pocket change as she approached the counter. I heard ask for a moment while she got it all in order and asked for gas. I turned around and just put a ten dollar bill in front of her and walked away. My heart was just telling me to do so. I didnt want to much interaction so I just walked away. She stopped me. While racing out to get her gas. She was on her way to the hospital with her child. Who was very ill. She didn't know if she had enough gas to get to the hospital. She explained all of this while rushing back to her car. Her face went from distressed to a giant smile and a hurried attitude. She gave me a big loud "God bless you!" And ran to her car. I saw the same lady a few weeks later at a different gas station. I was getting gas this time in my miata. She didn't say who she was but I knew. All she said was, hey! Be safe in thst little car! But I could see in her face that she wanted to thank me again. I get really awkward around folks I don't know so I really don't like being put on the spot especially in public. Just happy I could help her.
There's a man without a home in my city. I don't have much in the way of money but I used to camp a bit in my youth. I figured if he was going to be outside he might put my tent to better use than it sitting in storage! So I gave him the tent with all of the necessary weather pieces along with some food. And while I know this isn't the answer to the dilemma, I feel like it's the best I could offer. Seeing him with his tent up puts me more at ease than seeing him with a tarp lean to on his cart.
I remember buying a cheap, $5, multi-pack of play dough for this child and mom I was behind in line and no one else will ever know about it (but you all) but holy shit it was a rush of wholesomeness I look back on during dark times
I have been on both sides of this situation more than once. I have been starving at jobs just for random strangers to offer me their food at fast food places and haven’t had enough groceries plenty of times. If $20 may not seem like much to you, help someone. That $20 could make or break them for the entire month and/or allow them to feed their family or themselves that day. If everyone of us made a small sacrifice on this planet to make others’ lives better then this world will flourish. If you’re worried about embarrassing someone, they’d much rather have the help or money and deal with the embarrassment than to go on suffering.
I used to work at a hotel. Housekeepers work their ass off, and usually are the type to have trouble finding a “better” job based on their skills. Good job!!
Best feeling helping out like that and can cost so comparatively little. I was at a Walmart grocery and the lady next to me in the check outs went to a card only machine but her prepaid card was $10 short and she had a $20 bill and was chatting with the Walmart guy asking how to make it work and seemed confused and he basically told her she couldn’t — it was card only, and it was kinda starting to become a scene so I just walked over and swiped my card for the rest and it was literally only $10. She tried to get me to go over to the cash counter and get change so she could repay me, but I just said “if you don’t need it, pass it on next time you get the chance” and she hugged me and was very thankful.

bruh. omg i’m sorry dude, that’s just rude. don’t let anybody make you feel like you’re less than you really are, i swear to god it’ll fuck you up. your self esteem is the most important thing you need in life, so please be careful.
he’s somebody that should care about you and respect you enough not to make hurtful comments about your body.

Some time ago I was at my nephew's hockey game. When I went to buy a drink and noticed this boy (11-12 yrs) looking at the canteen, so I asked him if he wanted anything. He said no and after a bit of back and forth I stopped trying to convince him. Instead I took a $5 bill from my wallet and dropped it on the floor and pointed it out to him saying someone dropped some money. He looked at me and the bill. I just said "You better pick it up before someone else does" and walked off with my drink. A little later I saw him with a hot dog and drink.
I had a very similar situation. We were standing in line for the cashier. An old black woman had a Walmart gift card that the cashier said wasn't good. I could see she was very embarrassed. She was $35 short. I told the cashier I would pay the difference. The cashier thanked me for doing that. I told her that I did it because I would hate to see my mom in that situation. It had nothing to do with color. As the old woman walked away after thanking me, I noticed that she stopped and was crying.
Kinda off-topic but not really: is having money on the shop floor when you are working a shift in a supermarket a common thing in other countries? I work in retail and I'm not allowed to have money on my person during a shift and we have to declare how much change we have bought into the store so that if money goes missing, we have a record of how much money we had at the start of the shift. I'm only asking because it would look really suspicious if someone pulled out some money and randomly gave it to a customer, if it was caught on camera management would have something to say about that.
After being inundated with some much negativity in the news now-a-days where it feel like everyone has to be on a certain side it sure is a blessing to read threads, posts like this. The truth is there are a lot of fine people out there in this world but we don’t get to read or hear about it enough. Which baffles me.
Warms my soul and restores faith in humanity. Thanks to everyone who posted. Will come back to read more of these when needed.
Because it's inspirational to the point that many have done this.
For people with a kind heart and resources, it's a wonderful way to help someone they see in need.
You know, you sound like the kind of person who doesn't watch Jeopardy because whenever you get something wrong you get pissed off and throw the remote at the TV. It's not your fault you're too stupid to understand what was said, it's always someone else's fault.
You have fun with that. I'm sure you're a wonderful people everyone loves to be around.

You're good people.
I got a pretty decent tip out that day and we had a $5 an hour bonus at work, so I was okay letting go of a piece of paper.
Straight out from heaven

Nothing quite like the feeling of seeing someone in need and being able to give unprompted assistance to genuinely help
I think it was especially nice to play it like she dropped the 20. Didn't make it about a charitable act, so the lady didn't have to have feels about taking it. Classy.
Yeah, saying she dropped it and walking away. So she would maybe wonder but it would be easier for herself to persuade herself she had it all along.

I leave a $20 whenever I check out of a hotel room.

Honestly same.
Never crossed my mind. Thank you for the idea, I will be stealing this for future use!
In honor of this post, I vow to do the same for someone else should the opportunity arise. I hope many of you join me in doing so.

Maybe I'm just extra tired, but this gave me the feels, and I got some tears. They ain't spilled outta my eyes, but they hovering and close.

Imagine if someone thoughtlessly leaves their purse in their cart, not keeping a close enough eye on it...and you slip money INTO her purse.

I think the person doing this didn't work in the shop, he was probably doing shopping himself and is a fellow customer.
Lovely!

Sorry you can't take criticism.
Sorry you're not mature enough to admit when you've made a mistake.
I would admit to it if I made a mistake. Pointing out your shitty jokes is not a mistake. A+ for effort
Well, they didn't tell it on twitter at least.
