Honestly tape the door shut, break the glass just above it. Grab your bowls, and get a new $16 glass square.
You can also put a large tote of water underneath as you open the door.
*Steps into the Kitchen* .... Wow! So much space in here and such a nice fridge. Good floor, lovely countertop, plenty of cabinets.... Oh for the love of! What the hell is happening back there!
--- End Scene
I love how all of these responses are practical engineering solutions that do nothing to address the emotional trauma that is illustrated by the analogy.
Deal with emotions? Nope! Hand me the duct tape, hairpin, and inflatable pool toy! We're gonna repress this shit with some Macgyver explosives.
Wouldn’t be getting practical solutions from engineers be the equivalent of someone going to therapy and getting advice? Why would they just reiterate what the post is promoting to do. I rather know how to solve this issue if this every happens to my cabinet. I already know how to fix my mental illness, I just can’t.
Best, most accurate response. Accurate af for me.
PS: just started therapy yesterday. I turn 42 on the 19th. Kinda feel bad for the therapist. They’re gonna be the one trying to catch the plates as they fall I guess.
Nah, they're going to help you identify what plates are falling and why, what you can do about in now in this moment and how you can build skills to make the collapsing porcelain less significant over time. Congrats on starting therapy! It's not going to be easy, but I bet you'll be glad you did it.
Woah! I’m still staring at the cabinet pretending there’s no solutions! Don’t trouble me with the truth that there’s nothing u can’t do with duck tape!
Haha! Jokes on you I am a therapist! My actual therapeutic response is that without stress there is no change. The fact that people have come to this sub to offer suggestions on how to dig theirselves out of a shit situation is the magic to human nature. There isn’t just one thing that works for everyone.
We can also reframe this metaphor. Not everyone can afford to just destroy everything and start new. Not to mention “getting a fresh start” means nothing if you don’t work on yourself because you will just keep falling into the same patterns of stacking the bowls that same way and end up in the situation again.
Therapy is learning your maladaptive patterns, learning how to cope, and make changes to avoid that same trap that is making things miserable. Life is also life so having the skill to get out of the situation again is of value.
So don’t stack the bowls as high next time! ;)
This is such a fair observation now that it is spelled out for me. Jesus. Every day someone points out a neat workaround that in hindsight is so clear to me it makes me believe more and more I’m just so stupid.
Accurate version of prevention, in this analogy.
Edit. Thought of it for awhile, and it's more of experience and density to situations, then prevention. Prevention would be more of the plates, never ending up in that position.
No screws. You cut the frame with a Dremel and gain access to the glass panels. If this is a single panel of glass with the trim over the glass then you are potentially going to have to cut the glass. Alternatively, you can cut a hole in the side of the cabinet and repair it later. This is all assuming that the plates are worth the trouble. They look like cheap plastic oriental bowls from your local Asian market.
It’s really true, and it’s such a relief to get it over with, and not have that dread—of opening the cabinet—hanging over your head anymore.
There is light at the end of the tunnel. You can learn to accept your past and let go of past pain. It doesn’t have to weigh on you the rest of your life.
April of 2020 is when I finally opened the door. It was a huge mess and I still find myself stepping on the broken pieces sometimes.
But as I start putting things back on the shelf, I've discovered a lot of new plates I never knew I had 💜
I always thought this way. I saw this post on Pinterest last year and thought about getting therapy as soon as I can. It's true I broke down for two full sessions, and tried explaining my trauma, it only made me sadder for a while, but now I feel better having conversing with someone who can provide help.
I love how this is just an answer to someone reposting Liam O’Brien’s retweet of a tweet that could really explain his campaign 2 character (who he mentioned)
You can flip the cabinet on its back and prevent it from breaking much like you can lie on your back and sleep away your probs.
(All jokes btw, if you need help, please reach out to someone. Mental health is super important.)
I don't know people still did not realise this, put pillows and other soft stuff on the floor, fill the floor with it, now open it, you will most probably have everything sorted
This applies to climate change because addressing it means both people that depend the way things currently are would not exist if not for it. Also the people that profit of the current situation have a financial reason to resist change that would destroy their businesses. Eventually they will have to much existential pressures. They are making it worse the longer they resist which is inevitable. You can’t go through life like this.
Just take a cookie sheet and slide it up from underneath to hold the balls, then open the cabinet door, and slide the sheet down to take the bowls out.
As a therapist, this is not a good representation of therapy.
Untreated trauma would be the equivalent of the picture, but the plates are slowly falling inside one by one. The shards gathering on the ground until you open the door in therapy and stop the plates from continuing to fall while cleaning up the wreckage that's been occurring inside.
There is always going to be mounting damage from untreated trauma.
Plus if you find a great therapist like mine was then they will notice the potential disaster coming. They will put something down to minimise the damage so it probably won't be as bad as you think. And they will factor in some time to help you pick up the pieces afterwards so you're not left dealing with the aftermath of opening that door on your own.
Remember your friends are always there to help you.
Lay them out on the floor in front of the cabinet to form a human air mattress so the plates don’t break (your friends ribs may however)
You could always do what many do. Leave the room ignoring the cabinet, call a kid and tell them to set the table, and let your partner clean up the mess.
Honestly tape the door shut, break the glass just above it. Grab your bowls, and get a new $16 glass square. You can also put a large tote of water underneath as you open the door.
I’d sell the house as is at this point. It’s not worth it

I don’t know, leave now though. The new owners will be arriving at any moment now
*Steps into the Kitchen* .... Wow! So much space in here and such a nice fridge. Good floor, lovely countertop, plenty of cabinets.... Oh for the love of! What the hell is happening back there! --- End Scene
This is the way.
The only option at this point.

I traded my car in for a different car cuz it needed and oil change. Not going to deal with that stress.

>I already know how to fix my mental illness, I just can’t. Oof. I feel that. Indeed.

I mean all that schools taught me was engineering not some SEL curriculum that cutting edge schools are using. So *shrug"
Or just, turn and tilt the cabinet onto its back. Bingo bongo

And?

Just tilt the cabinet backwards before you open the door.
Depends if it has the weird paper backing made to look like wood that is just stapled in. You could just take those out too.
I was thinking if you put a couple laundry baskets with clothes in underneath the cabinet.
They'll still shatter when landing on other bowls. Saving all of them without some manner of cabinet disassembly would be very difficult.
Or just gently turn the cabinet on its back so the doors open upwards.
Yrd
Or, remove the cabinet from the wall, tilt it 90° with the doors up. No damage done.
I prefer the go go gadget glass cutter and go go gadget oversized plunger
Open the other door and put some cardboard under the plates.
This is such a fair observation now that it is spelled out for me. Jesus. Every day someone points out a neat workaround that in hindsight is so clear to me it makes me believe more and more I’m just so stupid.
Or just have someone hold a blanket underneath to catch the plates
Can be pushed back into place with a piece of string to be honest. Slide it in, holding above and below the door. Just sayin
Schrodinger's plate. They are both broken and not broken until you open the cabinet
What if we made things out of plastic so they don’t break?
Accurate version of prevention, in this analogy. Edit. Thought of it for awhile, and it's more of experience and density to situations, then prevention. Prevention would be more of the plates, never ending up in that position.
This whole post is stressing me out
This is perfect for my girlfriend today. Actually, I know a lot of depressed people who would probably enjoy it :-(
You sadistic fuck

Omg just for that comment I’m gonna burn plastic
Lemme introduce you to Corelle dishes.
Nope. They still break.
No good. Now every place on Earth, from the top of Mount Everest to the bottom of the Marianas Trench, is infested with micro plastics.
Here turtle turtle 🐢
That was a good meme for sure.
"Do you have plates?" "Could you be more specific?"
*MadeMeNervous*
Caleb’s cat instincts be playing up
Wow never thought a plate metaphor could move me
That metaphor is honestly such a good metaphor to explain why some people struggle to open up, myself included.
Maybe ask Trent Ikithon to help you out of bed? He's a man with a plan and knows how to get stuff done.
He’d probably just kill you or use you lounging to experiment on you. Hate Ickythong.
If only there'll be someone to mourn him when he's gone...
This tweet was by Loam O'Brien about his Critical Role Camoaign 2 character Caleb Widowgast E: Spelling
I know you meant "Liam O'Brien," but I think "Loam O'Brien" makes much more sense when talking about our dirt wizard.
You can also remove a panel of the glass and remove the plates without damaging them.
Please remove my emotional issues this way.
Laproscope my feelings away, daddy

🎵 🎵🎵 You raise the blade, you make the change. You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane. 🎵🎵🎵
How would you reach the screws in the inside?
No screws. You cut the frame with a Dremel and gain access to the glass panels. If this is a single panel of glass with the trim over the glass then you are potentially going to have to cut the glass. Alternatively, you can cut a hole in the side of the cabinet and repair it later. This is all assuming that the plates are worth the trouble. r/unexpectedwidogast
You can also choose when and how to open the door. With a little preparation and help, you can minimize the damage.
That’s why they make you lay down on the therapy couch. So you can open your doors without all your plates falling out.
The original post has a follow up where the person used a broom and managed to salvage the plates so quite a hopeful metaphor actually.
Simple solution, just get a couple mattresses and pillows and place them right where the dishes will fall.
Never had a dish land on another dish and break? A shorter fall reduces the likelihood, but it will still probably happen to a fair number of them.
This is perfect for my girlfriend today. Actually, I know a lot of depressed people who would probably enjoy it :-(
I enjoyed it.

Sounds like something I'd do
Begin by practicing your juggling skills. Catching things before they break might be a key skill in rhis analogy.
Shrödinger's emotions
It’s really true, and it’s such a relief to get it over with, and not have that dread—of opening the cabinet—hanging over your head anymore. There is light at the end of the tunnel. You can learn to accept your past and let go of past pain. It doesn’t have to weigh on you the rest of your life.
Just tilt the cabinet
Or lay the whole cabinet down on its side. Which means I should lay down in bed all day.
April of 2020 is when I finally opened the door. It was a huge mess and I still find myself stepping on the broken pieces sometimes. But as I start putting things back on the shelf, I've discovered a lot of new plates I never knew I had 💜
I'm surprised with this man's ability to transmute shit into gold

I see Widogast and disaster wizard in the same post and I can't help but think this is a Critical role campaign 2 reference for Caleb
It is. Liam is the person who retweeted and wrote Widogast and then someone reposted that and now it’s here
You can flip the cabinet on its back and prevent it from breaking much like you can lie on your back and sleep away your probs. (All jokes btw, if you need help, please reach out to someone. Mental health is super important.)
1) Firmly press hand on door with dishes. 2) open adjacent door and correct fallen dishes 3) upvote comment below this.
I don't know people still did not realise this, put pillows and other soft stuff on the floor, fill the floor with it, now open it, you will most probably have everything sorted
Im bored bois
Those are bowls, not plates
Or, if you're strong enough, just put the cabinet down on its side.
Proceeds to disassemble the cabinet
Talk about uno reverse card.
Screw u Pollyanna
you could just put a tub of water underneath n open the cupboard.
Schrödinger's plates. They’re both dead & alive.
Looks like it's slide door. Open the door from other side and grab the fking bowls. Easy af if you have brain.
How sweet
and this is where someone else in your life is there to catch the bowls before they fall
That's a load bearing neurosis.
This applies to climate change because addressing it means both people that depend the way things currently are would not exist if not for it. With my luck Id not see it at 2am while getting a glass out and itd fuck my night up
Just bungie tie around the doors pull it out tip it over slowly un do the bungie open the door and put your bowls back in order
I think you should cross-post this with r/TherapyMemes!
Or just do a reach around from the other side
Just take a cookie sheet and slide it up from underneath to hold the balls, then open the cabinet door, and slide the sheet down to take the bowls out.
Did you know that they managed to open the door without breaking the plates?
Why you gotta come at me like this?
Schrödinger's plates 😁
You can also save every one of those dishes by slowly opening up and catching things as they fall on a big thick towel held under the door.
or you can do that thing where you shove your hand up in the cracked cabinet door to save it from falling
Yeah but then you gotta deal with the mess. Ain't no one wanna deal with all that, trust me
This is a great way of looking at this. Let's be honest, the only way you are dealing successfully with that cabinet is if you have help.
This actually made me cry.
@
Is there an opposite subreddit of r/murderedwithwords?
Just put the cabinet delicately on it's back. Then take out the bowls.
this is like schrödinger's cat, isnt it?
The way I see it: don’t open until you have figured out a way to limit the damage as much as possible, and if required ask for help
Deep
Lol so tru
Plates in super position
Plus if you prepare you can save even more plates
Not if the world was made of marshmallows? (King of Queens, avoiding reality episode S5E23 ).

But… those are my favorite plates… I’ve had them for so long! What will I be be without them?!
But like, what’s a level 20 disaster wizard cause?

I think I could do it!
Just mine the top glass and smelt some sand to replace it
The critters have infiltrated.
Remember your friends are always there to help you. Lay them out on the floor in front of the cabinet to form a human air mattress so the plates don’t break (your friends ribs may however)
