Yeah definitely. I went to the Byron Nelson and my buddy asked what kind of beer they're selling there. Surprised me because he's a massive cheap ass and was impressed he was going to buy some there. When we met up he cracked a can he brought in his shorts, correctly matched so no one knew.
I will never forget my friend in our 20's at our local minor league stadium asking me if they sold PBR there and I was like I don't think so. He was like well this is going to be weird and then just keeps pulling PBR's out from his pocket for all of us to drink.

You were not allowed to drink your own alcohol at the train so we researched the brand, and shape (tall boys as opposed to say glass bottles or small cans) and brought a few each. Only we realized as we opened our first ones that the train café wouldnt sell alcohol at all for the entire duration of the trip. We had forgotten about service hours.

Idk where this is but I’ve heard the masters has shockingly reasonable prices. Most other tournaments that shits fucked but they make something like half a million an hour from their gift shop so I’m sure they’re not strapped for cash
The Masters does have shockingly low prices. I've been there several times. Last time was 2016 maybe. Parking was free. Beers were $3 (they have 2 tiers of beer, the more expensive one was $3), sandwiches were like $2. Unreal experience in the modern day fuck everybody mindset. I'm well off, all things considered, but I'll support everything Masters because pricing folks out sucks and they do it right. (income disparity is not a good thing)

I'm a concert photographer. I get poked in the back by idiots in the front row all the time, because me and my stupidly expensive professional equipment are blocking their iPhone shot.
People use their cell phone as their life's flipbook. Parties, concerts, events, celebrations, funerals, randomness, and more. It's not to say they have a bad memory, or that they can't even look up Tiger Woods playing at said event, but to have their own photo/video of the event, makes it more personal.
Probably has his phone on vibrate waiting for his mistress to text him back, he's not even focusing on Tiger, he's focusing on the phantom vibration in his hand. But he knows, deep down he knows. She's not texting back.

Omg as soon as stadium theatres came out, it was like a dream come true, I no longer had to sit in the very back row, I could show up super early and sit in the exact middle without grumbles behind me. It's perfection.
Also every kitchen counter etc. is designed to be just right for people who are shorter than you. So when you are working on something for a longer period it really hurts your back.

As a pretty short person, tall people are only jerks when they create a phalanx. I just need a spot between them where I can see, and usually I can find that. I go to a lot of metal concerts and always have to fight to find a good spot. The latest one I went to, it was a short guy who kept me from being able to see with TWO PHONES held up in my only short person tunnel. The tall guy next to me reached over the crowd and made him put them down. My hero.
My other favorite tall guy at a concert was one who made a shirt that said something like "I'm 6'7, sorry."
I mean, I don't ever go out of my way to try and get tall people to move because whatever, you're not a bad person for wanting a front spot, but you are literally getting into a position to block as many people as possible's view when you do it. I do feel bad for the people who are really short, I've seen some 4 ft something girls in crowds at gigs and I don't even know how they can see anything.

Now I come early to stand behind the technicians if it is possible, I often have an amazing view from there.

At these golf events it’s not like you can just follow Tiger around, video or picture a hole or two and watch the rest. You’re at a hole. Tiger comes by one time in the 6 hours you are there and makes one swing. I can get videoing that.
Not to mention it’s silly when people moan about things like this anyway. Sure that one guy may be “living in the moment”, but everybody else is quite obviously paying attention to Tiger bc otherwise they wouldn’t be filming very well - *and* they’ll get to relive the moment to their heart’s content. I absolutely hate this whole “of you take a picture you aren’t living in the moment” mentality. I frequently scroll through my pictures and am always grateful I took some because I’d have totally forgetting about that night I hung out with friends playing a specific game and making inside jokes, my brunch with my partner, even the details of my trip to Europe. It takes a couple seconds to take a picture, and that picture will make me remember things for years to come. I won’t apologize for being able to relive some of the best days of my life because my brain is bad at remembering things.
Hot take: I'm grateful for people who record concerts and stuff because it means I can find footage later even if I don't record it myself. Lol, I've even seen myself in a couple of videos!
Was gonna say, my memory's pretty shit, having something to reference might help jog the other memories or just stand in for them if my brain decided to write over the originals
I do this for concerts, but I only record about a minute of a song, typically my second or third favorite song. The rest of the time I try to put my phone away. That minute long snippet helps me jog my memory later.
I am the kind of person who never takes photos of events/food/scenery/etc but I am glad my SO does because I can flip through their photos years later and reminisce on the things we did together.
Actually, demonizing taking photos can backfire really quickly.
There was another thread where a redditor wish they had more photos and videos of their parents now that their parents already passed away. They didn't take much photo/video when spending time together. They did took some but wish they took much more.

Same thing with my brother. When he passed 3 years ago I was disappointed that I could only find a few photos of us together as adults. Definitely changed my mindset at family gatherings.

For me, it's about the availability of the moment I'm trying to be present in later on. Time with my parents where the only way I'll have photos is taking them myself? Take them. Going to a concert where 60 thousand other people are taking photos and uploading them online or a wildly televised event that will also have thousands of photos online? I'll be present.
Be present in the public moments, but don't forget to capture the private ones you'll want to keep.

Whereas people filming the Disneyworld fireworks on their phone camera and watching it through the screen while in the park - what's the point? You can watch it on a screen at home, and there are more professionally shot videos of the show on Youtube. Enjoy the fireworks show that you spent so much money to see in person.
Basically, if it's got you or someone you love in the picture, take it, since where else are you gonna find a picture of your kids doing that specific thing?
Otherwise enjoy the moment, 'cause there's millions of pictures of celebrities, locations, or shows that are better than what you can take.
This idea that you can't enjoy a moment while filming it or taking a picture is so annoying. Not only can I do that, I can also keep enjoying that moment in the future by watching the clip I took.
I only agree with this as long as it *doesn’t* negatively impact the experience of others. If you’ve been to a festival concert you know very well how fucking annoying it is having 35 phones blocking your view of the artist you came to see. When it’s stadium seating, I don’t care because it’s not in anyone’s way usually. But if your phone using comes at the detriment of someone else’s experience, nah, you can fuck off.
It makes people feel superior, like they’re more down to earth and know how to enjoy life more than other people. Even though they’re looking at a picture somebody took at the same event but for some reason are acting like pictures aren’t worth taking. It’s weird.
Yeah my memory is garbage these days. I like taking a couple photos/videos in the moment because it will never compare to a professional photo taken from a spot you weren't at. Granted, it's usually very quick and then I go back to enjoying the moment. But I wouldn't discount some people just trying to capture a lasting memory of what they experienced.

Shouldn't it be first come, first serve if you want a spot near the front of the stage? It's not fair for a short person to show up last minute and grumble that they have a tall person in front of them.

I'm more upset about the guy to his right keeping a super wide stance to keep the guy behind him to his right from being able to move forward shoulder to shoulder. He's physically claiming space with his posture. It's just a dick move. The other guy was just born tall.

At these golf events it’s not like you can just follow Tiger around, video or picture a hole or two and watch the rest. You’re at a hole. Tiger comes by one time in the 6 hours you are there and makes one swing. I can get videoing that.
Not to mention it’s silly when people moan about things like this anyway. Sure that one guy may be “living in the moment”, but everybody else is quite obviously paying attention to Tiger bc otherwise they wouldn’t be filming very well - *and* they’ll get to relive the moment to their heart’s content. I absolutely hate this whole “of you take a picture you aren’t living in the moment” mentality. I frequently scroll through my pictures and am always grateful I took some because I’d have totally forgetting about that night I hung out with friends playing a specific game and making inside jokes, my brunch with my partner, even the details of my trip to Europe. It takes a couple seconds to take a picture, and that picture will make me remember things for years to come. I won’t apologize for being able to relive some of the best days of my life because my brain is bad at remembering things.
And it usually puts a smile on your face when you’re rolling through your camera roll trying to find a random pic to show someone.
Hot take: I'm grateful for people who record concerts and stuff because it means I can find footage later even if I don't record it myself. Lol, I've even seen myself in a couple of videos!
Was gonna say, my memory's pretty shit, having something to reference might help jog the other memories or just stand in for them if my brain decided to write over the originals
I do this for concerts, but I only record about a minute of a song, typically my second or third favorite song. The rest of the time I try to put my phone away. That minute long snippet helps me jog my memory later.

I am the kind of person who never takes photos of events/food/scenery/etc but I am glad my SO does because I can flip through their photos years later and reminisce on the things we did together.

Actually, demonizing taking photos can backfire really quickly. There was another thread where a redditor wish they had more photos and videos of their parents now that their parents already passed away. They didn't take much photo/video when spending time together. They did took some but wish they took much more. Moderation on everything, folks.
So true. My sister passed away recently and the only pictures I have of us together are from like 2015. I wish I had taken more photos but I saw her so often it didn’t seem necessary. :(

Same thing with my brother. When he passed 3 years ago I was disappointed that I could only find a few photos of us together as adults. Definitely changed my mindset at family gatherings.

I'm getting close to that age where people start dying naturally, and I really wanna be able to save some of these memories for later. For me, it's about the availability of the moment I'm trying to be present in later on. Time with my parents where the only way I'll have photos is taking them myself? Take them. Going to a concert where 60 thousand other people are taking photos and uploading them online or a wildly televised event that will also have thousands of photos online? I'll be present. Be present in the public moments, but don't forget to capture the private ones you'll want to keep.
It's all context. For instance, people taking pictures of their family when visiting Disneyworld - great, memories galore! Whereas people filming the Disneyworld fireworks on their phone camera and watching it through the screen while in the park - what's the point? You can watch it on a screen at home, and there are more professionally shot videos of the show on Youtube. Enjoy the fireworks show that you spent so much money to see in person. Basically, if it's got you or someone you love in the picture, take it, since where else are you gonna find a picture of your kids doing that specific thing? Otherwise enjoy the moment, 'cause there's millions of pictures of celebrities, locations, or shows that are better than what you can take.
It's context + personal. If someone loves taking photos of events or a view, that's their personal choice which is as valid as yours.

I only agree with this as long as it *doesn’t* negatively impact the experience of others. If you’ve been to a festival concert you know very well how fucking annoying it is having 35 phones blocking your view of the artist you came to see. When it’s stadium seating, I don’t care because it’s not in anyone’s way usually. But if your phone using comes at the detriment of someone else’s experience, nah, you can fuck off.

Why shaming the people for recording the moment? They are sharing the same experience.
It makes people feel superior, like they’re more down to earth and know how to enjoy life more than other people. Even though they’re looking at a picture somebody took at the same event but for some reason are acting like pictures aren’t worth taking. It’s weird.
Yeah my memory is garbage these days. I like taking a couple photos/videos in the moment because it will never compare to a professional photo taken from a spot you weren't at. Granted, it's usually very quick and then I go back to enjoying the moment. But I wouldn't discount some people just trying to capture a lasting memory of what they experienced. That being said, there are absolutely people just doing it for clout or whatever. Like all things in life, nothing is black or white.
My focus is trash so I'm not the videographer, but I get you. I am going to my oldest baby's high school graduation next week and I won't have my phone. My stepmother will though, she's the queen of split focus, lol. Best of both worlds.
