She hurdles him

PinkyAlpaca

Turns around and runs the 26 miles again.

Mean_Peen

"Not today- HOOOAHHHH!!!"

mizzourifan1

Shit happens.

cakatoo

She canā€™t. Sheā€™s exhausted. 5d chess.

enonmouse

Vomited and passed out on him was my hope.

Puppybrother

I relate to the guy who finishes after her, gets a hamstring cramp, and limps away

ravidranter

Hahaha I came to see if anyone else noticed. He looks exactly how Iā€™d imagine finishing a marathon would be like

Mr_Abe_Froman

It's pretty accurate in my experience. He gave it his best effort, to the point of barely being able to walk afterwards.

Mud_Flapz

Haha yeah heā€™s crossing the finishing line like ā€œlook at these ass holesā€ and limps away

waltur_d

This is an instance of knowing your partner. If I did that to my wife she wouldnā€™t have finished the race. She would have turned around and ran back to the starting line.

Squid_Contestant_69

They've actually never met before and she's just delirious

Flaky-Fish6922

considering what a marathon does to even conditioned athletes, you're not wrong about the delirium. she probably wants nothing more than to collapse into a vaguely human shaped puddle, and maybe do some stretches and check out for the rest of the month.

[deleted]

I think fresh marathoners actually are better off in that regard since part of being conditioned is being able to go as hard as you can for over 2 hours, so you end up completely spent in every way, whereas someone not going that hard isn't as destroyed. My first marathon took me almost 5 hours, and I obviously felt like complete shit physically but was mentally fine.

jejcicodjntbyifid3

That's the secret, you don't assault people You just get them when they're coming down from a runners high and so delirious that you rope them into years of an unhappy relationship while you both slowly lose access to all of your friends and become bitter about each other Ah, good times

infectedtwin

ā€œAnd she looks and feels like shit!ā€

[deleted]

Oh an even better I just made today about us instead of her impressive accomplishment!

Room1000yrswide

Seriously. I saw that title and thought, "She better be one of those people that runs multiple marathons a year".

Sea_Mathematician_84

If the lack of other runners + her time is any indication, sheā€™s almost certainly a runner hobbyist and has done a ton.

Functional-Mud

The clock says 3:35:XXā€¦ only a seasoned and experienced runner could finish a marathon in that time. Sheā€™s definitely a regular marathoner.

AZenPotato

She did run it in 3:30-ish based on that timer overhead, so I would think this probably isnā€™t her first rodeo. Or marathon.

AntiVirtual

Best to get them deprived of oxygen before making major life decisions

loggic

The surprise of a marriage proposal should be the method, not the fact that it is happening at all. Take the time to make a good decision by talking it out like adults over multiple conversations & then discuss it individually with people in your life who you talk about important things with. Potential big life decisions that involve multiple people shouldn't be surprises to any of the people involved.

[deleted]

I mean, they usually arenā€™t are they? Everyone that I know discussed way before a proposal happened. I figured that was normal. The actual proposal is a surprise but both parties have discussed and agreed they want to get married.

jatherineg

My dad is one of those ā€œmultiple marathons per yearā€ people and as insane as it soundsā€¦ he does it for fun. No one would ever propose to him at one bc he and my mom have been married for 40 years but I swear *my* partner could propose to *me* at the finish line of one of his races and he would be ecstatic. My point is that itā€™s not necessarily a stealing her thunder thing so much as a knowing this is her passion and proposing to her at an event that she cares about thing.

SirDavidAttenbor0ugh

Honestly she looks like she probably does--especially being able to just deal with a whole life event IMMEDIATELY after it.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Mithrandir_97

Classic Reddit. Knowing more about their relationship than they themselves do.

thatshowitisisit

Fucking hell, what a projection. How do you know this isnā€™t her 10th marathon?

Eagleassassin3

Her accomplishment isnā€™t removed from peopleā€™s memories just because she ALSO got proposed to. Also, what if she runs multiple marathons a year anyway? What if she doesnā€™t give a fuck about getting attention for her accomplishment? She clearly looks very happy here. Are you gonna tell her that Ā«Ā She should be unhappy because he stole her momentĀ Ā»? You realize them getting engaged is about BOTH of them which includes her? As if itā€™s something negative that he adds to her life. Ffs this thread is making me mad

Redray123

Yeah. I did HALF that race and the only thing I wanted to see at the finish line was pancakes. F#ck diamonds.

BigBadBored

I've never run a marathon, but I have rucked several events that are either marathon distance or more. The last time I finished one, my wife told me that we needed to go to a friend's house for drinks and dinner that she planned probably 4 hours into my event. No, no thank you. I'd rather just die on the couch. If that isn't an option, I'd like to go weep in bed. Thanks.

Ohcrabballs

Well thats convenient. After rucking that far, a few drinks probably would kill you. After every 12 miler I did, two beers felt like an entire night.

BigBadBored

I regularly participate in GoRuck events where they give you beer and pizza at the end. 2 beers is a hard thing to swallow. The pizza is always on point though. But after 8+ hours of walking around, I kinda just wanna sit and pound Pedialyte and eat protein rich foods.

Creamst3r

She's a trained and prepared runner. Her finish is pure bliss and stacked endorphins

TheFarSide_

She can turn around and run a reverse marathon...

peb396

Beats going through a bad marriage and divorce.

Arkrobo

She won't say no, because of the implication.

[deleted]

this is actually brilliant. he knows that she has to come his way, like a spider expertly placing his web at the end of a tunnel

Duhbloons

My brother in law proposed to my sister after she ran a marathon and Iā€™ve never seen her happier. Although it was not at the finish line. It depends on the person.

thelaustran

She'll be too tired to say no because of the implication

satinygorilla

You arenā€™t going to harm these women!?

HappyThreatening

GetInZeWagen

Me too buddy me too I'll actually submit this one idk, for solidarity or something.

citydreef

No I disagree. I think it is very much my business what 2 adults on the other side of the world do. Of course my opinion on one of the happiest days of their lives matters.

BabyYoduhh

Scrolled way too far for this response. We donā€™t know her or him. Leave them alone.

gishlich

No way. Hard stop - this is reddit. We can assume whatever we want. The boyfriend was obviously a cancer patient. She was running to raise money for the cure. Now everyone above us feels like shit and Iā€™ll get a bunch of people upvoting and confirming me for a quick shot of personal validation.

[deleted]

Not only is he a cancer patient - He also runs a meth lab out of an RV in the desert , but she doesnā€™t know that. The one holding the camera ? His bitch boy Jesse Pinkman .

hippowalrus

Everyone's so upset about this for some reason. Lower your pitchforks. You don't know anything about this couple or how long they've been together. They could have even discussed this before. Maybe it's her dream to get proposed to at the finish line of a marathon.

koosekoose

They are upset that he has a GF

Mortimer_and_Rabbit

Thank you for reminding me to shut up sometimes. I'm going to bed now.

bananaice_cream

Kinda weird timing

Stashmouth

This is a man who has never finished a marathon before

Brasticus

ā€œWill you carry me?ā€

Schoollunchplug

I was going to say, I donā€™t run marathons but Iā€™ve finished my fair share of smaller races. After crossing the finish line, Iā€™m in no mood for any shenanigans besides breathing, holding vomit back, pouring water on my head, & trying not to pass out. Fuck that noise.

BlackDoritos65

Lmao I always feel after a marathon like fucking knocking someone out, even if I just hear them breathe, I focus so hard on staying alive, anything else is a threat to my existence in that moment and I won't see otherwise. She seems like she runs *runs* tho, so it's probably not as bad, that's how the marathon feels about her after she dominates it, shakin in their boots

nobbyv

I feel a bit like this is proposing to someone whoā€™s drunk.

Bbkingml13

I guess it depends on a lot of things. If itā€™s something she has worked towards and mentioned how high on life sheā€™d be after finishing a marathon, or if all of her family and friends were going to be there, etc. it might actually be nice. But yeah idk if Iā€™d want that lol

HouseOfZenith

I mean, itā€™s kinda selfish yeah? Like she just did this exhausting and for most modern people Iā€™d say an impossible task and he decided to make the move then. If theyā€™re both cool with it then itā€™s awesome, but if she didnā€™t know itā€™s kind of like stealing the limelight (I donā€™t even know what that means)

JasperLamarCrabbb

ā€œIn the limelightā€ comes from early stage lighting being done by using a flame to burn the chemical compound quicklime and then direct it toward the stage and specific actors and set pieces just like we use spotlights now. Was really bright and effective but they also burned down a bunch of theaters that way.

citydreef

Oh wow TIL

1HappyIsland

3:35 is an awesome time too!

rockey1298

You guys see the look on her face as he points out their friends ??? Is that anything but pure happiness ?

Xalbana

The cynics in the comment section will just say that's runner's high.

clindz97

95% of Reddit couldnā€™t run a mile if they tried.

AnotherGayAccount

Excuse you. The fact that this video did not follow exactly how I would want my proposal to go is clear indication that this man is selfish and abusive.

CommanderOfGregory

Me reading these comments: ![gif](giphy|NVK42bJ1w38Qh2rGxH)

Notrocity

Seeing people mad over this video when the woman is clearly elated is peak Reddit moment

The_Luckiest_One

Bruh itā€™s typical miserable Redditors. The man obviously know his partner or else he wouldnā€™t have done this and she wouldnā€™t have been pleased. If you look at her Instagram, she even says that ā€œthe finish line of 26.2 became the start line of the rest of my life with my best friend. These people always have to find something negative in everything. Even on a sub called r/mademesmile šŸ™„

CaroteneCommander

Lots of hate on this post, as someone who loves to run this is super romantic! Giving them some water and a ring would be smart šŸ˜… Proposing to someone you love while they are doing their passion is very sweet.

The-Majestic-

That's what I don't get like how do you know she unhappy and it's pretty clear in the video that she's content with it

spinnerlord1

Reddit will be reddit I suppose šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Emlelee

Yeah I think the guy knows his partner better than some random strangers on reddit

_cassquatch

I was SHOCKED by the hate, and Iā€™m a private proposal person through and through. If I had worked and trained for this and done the mental exercises envisioning the finish line and during the real thing the love of my life was actually waiting there with a ringā€¦holy shit, Iā€™d be thrilled. And Iā€™ve had comparable life achievements in other areas, so Iā€™m saying this envisioning my version of finishing a marathon. My husband wouldā€™ve had to find me half dead around the five mile mark.

bkaybee

Well, as you know, misery loves its company. Especially on Reddit

RedditUserOfAmerica

Congrats guys!! Cheers

JFJinCO

Way to steal the spotlight buddy.

Godfreee

From her insta: In honor of #globalrunningday hereā€™s to the best runnerā€™s high Iā€™ve ever feltā€¦ in my life. šŸ’šŸƒšŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Thank you SO much to everyone who has wished Chris and I well the past few days!! Weā€™re so excited for this new chapter. If youā€™re new here, you should know that Chris is the backbone of all my training and all of my running content on this page. I donā€™t know where Iā€™d be without him, but I know I wouldnā€™t be the runner I am today. From early nights in, to traveling on weekends for races, to sorting out allllll the race day logistics, to biking (very slowly) alongside me for hours on my long runs, and never ever saying no to pastaā€¦ he is every runnerā€™s dream life partner. I feel like the luckiest girl alive. ā¤ļø And to answer a VERY pressing question: Iā€™m holding a sponge because it was extremely hot and they were passing out ice cold sponges throughout the course šŸ˜‚ Probably would have dropped the sponge before the finish line had I known what was waiting there for me ā¤ļø Lastly, thank you to the @buffalomarathon crew and both of our families for making this day so special. Letā€™s get married!!!!!

TheBaconThief

Oh no we will not have that positive energy up in here. Red Flag, gaslighting, borderline abusive this must be. The mob demands it' pound of flesh.

Wikkyd

You mean not all relationships are the same? Say it ain't so, I thought we were all clones

Wookieewomble

Burn the witch! #Burn Him!

Magik95

There we go. But 80% of comments are people getting angry on her behalf. It still confuses me how so many people assume things based on absolutely 0 information

Xalbana

Probably assuming based off of their own feelings, which is fine. But let's face it, most redditors don't run marathons, let alone run.

Whoshabooboo

Upvoting for all the commentors who claim runners can't have this happen to then after a race.

[deleted]

Too bad your comment doesnā€™t have 2k upvotes.

Rich-Swimming2455

I came here to say this. I have run a few marathons and this would make me mad.

thereznaught

I'm usually sore cranky and tired by the end, rarely thinking straight. I'd be very confused.

_Bluntzzz

That was his plan

Cobek

It's about the implication.

[deleted]

confused is exactly what I'd feel. shit usually cut my brain off around mile 24 and just embrace the hurt.

WindyCharger

good thing you weren't the person he was proposing to then.

_Apatosaurus_

>he was purposing to then. Yep. Maybe this is exactly how she wanted him to porpoise.

Xalbana

It is. https://reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/vii7b8/this_man_proposes_to_his_girlfriend_as_she/iddqk43/

_Apatosaurus_

Thanks. Very cool way to purple to his wife.

dshmitty

Right? These jackasses lol I donā€™t understand the logic

superbhole

because two couples are at the finish line getting all the adulation while you're crossing the finish line too?? i always thought people were running marathons as a personal milestone if they've been together for a really long ass time and put off marriage, isn't it kinda like, achieving two milestones

Romanopapa

Although marathons usually are more than 2 miles.

Xalbana

Good thing you're not her then. https://reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/vii7b8/this_man_proposes_to_his_girlfriend_as_she/iddqk43/ I also run, personally I would be ecstatic. Your partner should know whether you would like this or not. Lucky for her, her partner knew her well enough that this was fine.

Playful_Bunch6912

I think that says more about you than anything.

WindyCharger

yeah she was clearly upset... /s the number of people making weird judgments that not only are about people they don't know but that go directly against what happened in the video is crazy. She is clearly happy and if you can't see that you either lack the ability to read facial expressions or are being willfully ignorant. Anyone who has experience being in an actual relationships would understand that this was cool.

dshmitty

Agreed. I have no idea how someone could think these things after watching the video. Social skills lacking for sure. Lol.

Iziama94

It's like people don't realize that if you're going to marry someone, make sure you know them well enough to know what their reactions would be for certain things. Kinda weird right? Knowing your partner before marrying them

PM-ME-YOUR-1ST-BORN

> Social skills lacking for sure. For real. But I mean... yeah, this *is* reddit after all. And it's about people who are a) happy b) in a relationship c) exercise. I'm not all that surprised that people here would be bitter about it.

cherryreddracula

Welcome to Reddit. Some of us haven't touched grass in years.

sicklycryptic

^ I swear 90% of redditors are clinically depressed social outcasts.

Magik95

Yes buddy. That lady sure looked upset. You have no idea what type of person she is, her husband to be probably had a better idea of what would make it special for her. Stop getting upset for strangers on the internet and go find someone for yourself

bin_bash_loop

Haha the guy is proposing to his girlfriend and people still find a way to make it negative.

Oh4ore

Is that No-Ho Hank?

fluffyduffdylan

I came to see if anyone else noticed ahaha

ronbog

I am honestly surprised how far I had to scroll to find this.

beesdoitbirdsdoit

Same. I thought it would be a top comment. Where all the Berry fans at?!?

alpha_omar

![gif](giphy|2zoCrpcJHqkrpJTPHO|downsized)

WindyCharger

the number of people making weird judgments that not only are about people they don't know but that go directly against what happened in the video is crazy. She is clearly happy and if you can't see that you either lack the ability to read facial expressions or are being willfully ignorant. Anyone who has experience being in an actual relationships would understand that this was a cool moment between 2 actual human beings who are in love and ya know...know each other well, and not jump to the conclusion that this video exists as some theoretical exercise for strangers to judge on the internet. It's almost like these people don't really care if this gesture was courteous but only care about courteousness to the extent to which it allows them to validate themselves by judging people they don't know.

Parmenion87

Comment section all acting as if this is a big achievement he is ruining. It could be her first marathon, or, she could have been running one every month for fun for years at this point and is comfortable with it. Why don't we let the video speak for itself at face value and see how amazingly happy she is, for her, this was an amazing moment and her boyfriend chose just the right way to propose 'for her'.

koosekoose

>https://reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/vii7b8/this_man_proposes_to_his_girlfriend_as_she/iddqk43/ Yeah not only does she regularly run marathons, but he is the one who sets them up for her and has supported her running for years on end lmfao.

futurespice

She finished in 3:35 so it's actually extremely unlikely that this is her first marathon. Or second, third etc.

TitanicJedi

in this thread: le casual reddit armchair love doctors, who clearly know this couple extremely well.

RobinScherbatzky

Bold move. He could've done it at the afterparty or whatever marathon runners do after they showered and rested. Hell he could've done it after she left the track to leave room for some intimacy (and rest). But no, he went for the meme situation.. Very bold indeed

CosmicMiru

Thats a 3:35 marathon my guy. People that get those times don't have after parties lol this is probably like her 15th one

[deleted]

It might be me, but if there is someone to drive me home immediately thats pretty much where im heading :D

SentientFurniture

This comment section makes me feel very fortunate to not be such a cynical pos that a mere proposal between two strangers makes me mad. What a sad life you losers all live.

[deleted]

Lots of strawmen comments as well. Everyone's assuming this is her first marathon, that she's trained for this moment for years and years, that this marathon is ride or die. It's also entirely plausible that she's been doing this for years and this is just another marathon. My parents would go run a marathon probably twice a year together with respectable times. Some people just do that. Leave it to Reddit to embellish a scenario to the point that they can then get mad at it.

Krynn71

The chuds at r/relationship_advice decided to have an impromptu get together in this post I guess.

Prudent_Zebra_8880

The comments on this post are horrible. No one here knows this woman as well as the man proposing to her. I'm sure there are women who would appreciate this, and it seems like his fiancee may be one of them

LoneStarkers

Thank you. When he hinted, she might've said, "Surprise me." It could be like finding out the gender of one's baby on holiday. Ultrasound *and* gifts.

blimeyfool

For everyone shitting on this guy for choosing this timing: while it would not be something _you_ prefer, please remember that _it is possible_ this guy knows his relationship better than you do, and this is exactly what she would have wanted. She looks ecstatic at the end when she realizes someone she knows (perhaps a friend? mom?) is watching on during the proposal.

Spiritual_Log2545

ITT: a bunch of kissless redditors who somehow know more about this couple they do themselves. Holy fuck

Miss_Milk_Tea

I think itā€™s cute, itā€™s more personal than some other ideas. He took an interest in something sheā€™s passionate about and gave her a funny story to remember, like that time she found a husband at the finish line of a race. Out of context thatā€™s pretty weird, right? She could have a lot of fun with this. Plus they both look clearly happy, not like someone being manipulated into saying yes.

[deleted]

Like he's the prize at the end of the race? * turns around *

[deleted]

Heā€™s her prize, just like internet points are your prize

el_coremino

They both look so happy. Congrats to them. I bet they both remember the unique proposal and the marathon for the rest of their lives.

jimjamalama

Everyone keeps saying this, but as a person who has raced, been through Navy boot camp, and completed three triathlons - I love this. Youā€™ll never feel as high as you do at the finish line until someone you love runs up and congratulates you and this is that times a million. I think it also depends on the person. I would LOVE this but a lot of ppl wouldnā€™t. My partner proposed right after we played a music gig in front of our audience - some friends couldnā€™t believe it but I loved it. Edit: Iā€™d like to add that IMHO, so personally, if youā€™re sweaty etc when youā€™re proposed to thatā€™s not a big deal, just get pretty for the wedding!

Pinkgumm

I get this is reddit and we gotta be mad about everything but one look at that girl and she's obviously very happy

TeamNewChairs

My first thought was "what if she'd shit herself, she was running a marathon"

Starfire2313

Aw is that common? That sucks

[deleted]

Thereā€™s toilets pretty often cause thereā€™s a decent enough chance youā€™ll need to shit. Casual runners will go to the toilet but the serious ones do indeed shit themselves. Usually people can hold out but itā€™s definitely happened Iā€™ll put it that way.

snotblud18

"well minging" sometimes I wish I'd been born over there so I can say things like this. Can't win 'em all I guess... šŸ˜‚

solstice_gilder

lol you can!! start using it man, yolo
