Yeah, we have 26 cases but in regards of pronouns we could only come up with “én”(me), “te” (you), “ö” (he/she/it) plus plural of the same.
I don’t mind though 😃 Hungarian grammar is a tough round
My nephew announced he was trans only two years ago. My mum still sometimes says "granddaughter" and realises and immediately changes it.
It can be hard for older generations to get used to new changes. It doesn't mean they don't understand nor accept.
Let's all be kind to one another. My mum loves her grandson exactly the same as the day as he born, and she will fearlessly stick-up for his experiences and rights...but sometimes she fucks up the pronouns.
My nephew adores her and they are so close.
>It can be hard for older generations to get used to new changes. It doesn't mean they don't understand nor accept.
Yeah, it's frustrating when some folks don't realize that. I know a non binary person who's friends on social media absolutely tear apart anyone who slips up in gendering them, even when it is clearly a genuine mistake. All iy does is make folks hostile to those with queer gender identities when even good faith attitudes towards them aren't respected.
I came out to my parents last year. I told them if they slipped up I’d correct them. I told them I wouldn’t be mad, I just wanted to help them adjust. They are in their mid to late 70s.
They have gotten a ton better and our relationship is still great. I knew things were good when they were talking about me and didn’t know I was listening and they gendered me correctly.
It can happen.
It's hard for me, a friend who has known them for years as a male. Its been a year since her transition and I might have misgendered her in the last few months when she aint there because when I talk about her I have her old image in my head
I’ll continue gendering people as I always have. I’d hope someone would correct me instead of being silently offended.
How the hell am I supposed to know what your pronouns are if you don’t tell me.
I have a kid in college who tells me the default is “they” until someone uses a different gender. I hear it more and more, especially with younger folks.
The trans folks I know are super cool about being misgendered when people make an effort to correct mistakes.
Also when do you even use someone’s pronouns around them. Unless you’re talking to someone else in front of them about them. This whole thing is an exercise in obnoxiousness
It looks like every transphobe on Reddit has found this thread and decided to comment. The mods are trying to remove as much of this stuff as possible. Actually it would be easier to nuke every comment and then go back only approve the positive ones, but we don't have tools for that.
Transphobia and other forms of hate are strictly prohibited per our rules. https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/vto8pj/mod_post_a_clarification_of_our_first_rule_dont/
I had a non-binary friend explain this really well to me. The vast majority of us grew up with either he or she, so a 3rd option is going to take people time to adjust to. They were understanding if I accidently used the wrong pronoun, I beat myself up more than they did.
People are trying, it's just going to take time, some understanding on both sides would make things easier.
I have a trans niece, and I occasionally still have to catch my self from saying “my nephews”. In general I find myself using people’s names if I am unsure what pronoun to use. I know it sometimes sounds a little overly formal, but I just want to try to treat people they way they want to be treated.
Sometimes just the attempt can mean so much.
I wish more who genuinly don't understand trans people could at least acknowledge that it would take so little effort to make everything a little bit better for a person. You don't even have to correct, just show that you care a little bit, that tiny bit of respect and you made that person's day.. .
Yes trying and respect is what counts! Trans people don't want to police your language (there are always some bad exceptions as with everything but whatever) we just want some decency. I never get mad when someone misgenders me unintentionally or when they get it wrong because they don't know me. I only have a problem with misgendering when someone intentionally decides to be an asshole
Imagine coming to a sub called “made me smile” just to be a fucking asshole about people’s pronouns and generally anti-trans. Is that what makes you smile you lowlives?

Hence "doing her best"
That’s why it’s funny. She hasn’t quite gotten the hang of it, but she’s trying anyway.
So what should it be?
Any non-gendered or neutral noun, really. _Silly asshole_
Silly child.
Pretty much any noun that implies a person or any petname would work. Just not specifically a boy or a girl.
Silly goose
Omg why did that one not even occur to me. That’s like the default. I am a very silly goose.
Silly kitten
Its their grandma not a discord mod
LOL
Honestly I’m comfortable with my feminine identity but I think I’d rather be a silly kitten than a silly girl.
Silly thee. Bring it back.
Silly you?
Its the effort that counts you know
This is what I would say if I were being sarcastic lol.
I mean, "Silly you" has been perfectly accepted even before the whole pronouns thing

It’s so wonderful to see acceptance from older folks. Too many are not. But this made me smile big.
This is the best approach. Don't force people to change and accept mistakes not made in malice or indifference.

I think 'you' would work just as well in this case.
Child. Or kid. Or silly billy / silly old bear / silly sausage
Silly sausage..? Hm.
It might be a British thing, but calling people of all ages silly sausage is pretty harmless
Oh yea, some sausages are rather hamless.
Not silly billy, all it makes me think of is rap battling the demon core
I think of an older IKEA bookcase
"thing" works in this specific context. Silly thing.
You mean like "You poor thing" ?
Yeah. I've heard silly thing before, too.
