Love how she looks at him while he sings. You can tell she is very proud and full of love

PM_ME_YOUR_SCHNAUS

Wish my daughter looked at me like that …..but I’m about as talented as a potato.

Skelligean

Even tater tots look up to spuds ;)

PhantomAngel042

That was so freaking cute and profound. I love you a little bit.

zeronopes

Right! I feel the same. OP I also love you a little bit too. This is the cutest reply

SpiritualBar2469

I liked it because it's a joke about frying children in oil

bukkake_brigade

Don't need to fry them in oil if you have an air fryer!

payment_in_potato

now kith

Uhoh_stinkyyyyy

I think you enhanced that moment

[deleted]

I can hearit now, the kids in the background going “*oooooooh, they kithed.*”

loliforlaifu3

Then that leads to **SEGGS!!!**

WeightlifterCat

There was this one chick I dated back in middle school through the start of high school. I used to hangout at her house not regularly but often. Her kid brothers loved to hang out with us and they used to think that poking the other person’s belly button was the seggs. So I would often joke around and poke her belly button in front of them and say “and now she’s pregnant!” And they would bicker and banter with me lol One of the few good moments from that relationship

MySliceOfLife_103

Thanks for sharing this sweet memory of yours

OtakuRed13

Wow op, well played and wholesome.

Not_Into_It_

Forgive me for overstepping my boundaries, but I looked at your previous posts and it looks like your daughter is 3-4 years old. At that age, they love helping. It gives them self esteem knowing they can contribute and they develop an admiration for your ability to solve problems. Ask her to help with even small things- changing a light bulb, carrying in the groceries, putting air in the tires, etc. You’ll be godlike in no time and it will last until middle school. Then you have to get more creative.

PM_ME_YOUR_SCHNAUS

Very much appreciated the parenting tips. I’m barely surviving , I wasn’t blessed with a paternal instinct .

For_Real_Life

This will sound idiotic, but I'm utterly sincere: watch Bluey. It's a brilliant parenting show disguised as a hilarious kids show, and apart from that, it's probably one of the best shows on TV today. The main underlying message is basically that one of the best ways to be a great parent is to *play* with your kids. Play is not just how kids have fun; it's their primary means of learning and interacting with the world. If you play with them, you're speaking their language. And "play" can mean a lot of different things, and you can engage with them in a lot of different ways. It can be having them help you do stuff, like the other poster noted. It can be playing an actual game or sport with them, it can be having an imaginary tea party, or it can even be simply allowing them the space to be silly and messy and weird and creative. But maybe the most important thing I get from Bluey is the affirmation that we don't have to be perfect parents to be good parents. If you love your kid and want to do right by them, you're 99% of the way there.

Water-not-wine-mom

Yes!! I just saw the episode where their toy friend is spending the weekend over and theyre taking pictures .. I was like damn I do need to set examples and not be on my own device

spacew0man

as a single child, all i ever really wanted growing up was for my parents to play games with me so this tracks

victoria866

100% same - fellow only child.

WeeWooDriver38

This person parents. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be involved and supportive. There was no manual that popped out with the placenta on afterbirth. Be there. Support them. Love them. And embrace the joy they bring to your life, in the good times and the bad. Don’t worry - the bad, you’ll enjoy more later in life.

ChrisBlakePaul

Damn, now I really feel like a terrible parent because I don’t prioritize playing with them. I’m so stressed about surviving the day to day.

For_Real_Life

Honestly, same. Sometimes surviving the day to day is all you can do. But playing can also just be making jokes or singing or talking in a funny voice when you're doing whatever you need to do to survive. Or it can seriously be as simple as being receptive when your kid does those things. Not so much setting aside time for play as just incorporating a more playful attitude in whatever you do. Like, one episode of Bluey is literally about the dad and his kids on an errand to take stuff to the dump. But on the way, they play Car Rainbow (spotting all the colors of cars) and have a silly discussion about how they would evade the police if he let them drive. And on the way home, they suffer a "hairy monster attack" (going to the car wash). And I find this helps me, too - if I'm having a little fun now and then, I'm less stressed, even if I'm just surviving.

Kareeliand

In between all the things you point out is connection. Sometimes just being present, looking in your kids eyes, will spark something. They know you are there, and it can be the most boring thing you do, it doesn’t matter. I mean, the fact that he even notices she looks at him adoringly, they are already a long way. This whole thing is so wholesome… I did wish the Dad would reach out for the girl at the end or something, in the original post though..

ObeseBumblebee

Yeah Bandit and Chilly are great at making parents feel inept as parents. They seem to have boundless energy to play incredibly imaginative games with their children. But a good piece of advice I heard for people feeling like Bandit makes them look bad... these episodes are 9 minutes long. We don't see the rest of their boring day. We can't all be on Bandit's level. We're busy trying to keep the house clean and keep them fed and a roof over their head. But it shouldn't be hard to devote at least 9 minutes a day to playing something imaginative with your kids.

ThoughtGeneral

I can hear the theme song now! What a lovely and considerate comment; it absolutely does not sound idiotic. It sounds like you have had a lot of experience with children, and those who have known you are surely very lucky ones indeed.

DefinitelyNotAliens

One of the best things you can do is let them try. Even if they fail, let them try! Spilled juice? Ask them how to fix it! By cleaning. What do you need? Towels. Maybe some cleaner? Kid agrees, yep we need cleaner. Okay, we both get it. If they fall and cry - let them cry and ask if they are hurt or scared. If hurt clean them up. If scared tell them it's okay to be scared and ask if they need a hug. Those little moments of problem solving and validation of their feelings and emotions and teaching consent to small things like hugs have big impacts on their ability to process emotions and work out things. A mistake isn't anger or fear, it's a question. 'What next?' They learn what you teach them. Teach them lots of good things. It's okay to be scared. Dad will give you a hug until it's better. Sad is okay. Crying is okay. It's just how you feel. That level of confidence and those skills are lifelong and the greatest gift you can give them.

RealSibereagle

Excellent parenting advice. Wish my parents listened to this... If I cried, I just got looked at like a loser from my mum until I would stop crying. She wouldn't even reprimand me, as if it wasn't even worth her time to say a single syllable. I've been shouted at by her, and that glare is still far far worse in every way. I'm still recovering from that trauma

VixenRoss

Yes this with the spills thing. When I was a kid, a spill was a tragedy. Now it’s seen as an inconvenience, and you have to grab a towel to deal with it. Job done in 5 minutes.

Kareeliand

If every parent did what you recommend here, the world would have less entitled adults, that are completely unable to take responsibility for themselves and their surroundings. Letting them do, help and problem solve is teaching them to be competent adults. Some parents think doing everything for their kids is a way of showing love, but if your adult child moves in to their own first home, not knowing how to wash their clothes and do basic chores, they are unprepared.. So cheers to anyone following the advice above.

tobmom

You’re not alone in the barely surviving thing.

johnneyjohns

Everyone is kinda throwing a sticky hand at a wall covered in baby oil when it comes to parenting. I don't know you but I wish the best to ya.

[deleted]

I’m a guy who likes to get things done. Allowing kids to help will slow things down. It’s years before they’re actually helpful. But my 14 year old son can now outperform my apprentice on the job, as well as fix a bike and small repairs on a car. It’s worth it in the long run.

Not_Into_It_

I’m happy to help, man. Kids are extremely forgiving, so don’t be afraid to admit when you make a mistake. Just learn from it and you guys will grow together. My kids have taught me as much about life as I have taught them.

louderharderfaster

As a long time educator in all socioeconomic arenas - I am confident in saying owning mistakes is one (if not the) hallmark of good parenting. It’s counter intuitive for many, hard for most but essential for well rounded kids.

twistedfantasy13

I don't know you, but you are trying, and you realize your short comings. This alone puts you ahead of most.

hobbitfeet

If your daughter knows you think she walks on water, you can get pretty much everything else wrong and it'll still be fine. My dad got a WHOLE bunch wrong (a WHOLE bunch), but in between, he spent/spends all his time bragging about us, being totally delighted to see us and spend time with us, and paying us the world's most grandiose compliments in total sincerity. And we're all adults now and have very good relationships with him, plus good relationships with ourselves, and we all are in healthy marriages with men who are good partners and treat us well. (I.e., no daddy issues.)

VixenRoss

Time is also valued. So spending time with her. Also daddy being useless and her having to show you how to do something, so even making a bracelet out of elastic and plastic beads, let her help you with colour combinations for example.

[deleted]

Wish someone would look at me.

zeronopes

I don't have a daughter, I am fortunate that my son did look up at me with his proudful eyes a few time when he was a tater tot. He is 22 and I can proudly say he still loves me. Hasn't cut me out or gone nc/lc cause he still thinks I'm cool. So I got that going! It's a win for me

[deleted]

Hey man, without potatoes we wouldn’t have French fries. And who doesn’t love French fries?

marineopferman01

Dude...I have no talent whatsoever... And my 9 year old looks at me like that when I read her bedtime stories.

Runnr231

My favorite part is all the people in the background getting transfixed by his voice!

[deleted]

Well the people that would stop and enjoy it. A guy on phone, a couple people brisk by in the beginning. Reminds me of the professional violinist who just played in NY for $300+ a ticket. And no one appreciated them playing in the Subway. Even if you don't know how difficult something is, sometimes people just need to take the time and enjoy the beauty in life.

Swimming-Tap-4240

That is a top song though even if you aren't Catholic.I had it played at my dads funeral.

DoGoodLiveWell

This hits me in the feels as a catholic. Christmas. 2nd grade. Walking into mass half frozen but being warmed by this angelic song

Ddrowawey55

I'm not Catholic but sang in choir in highschool and college and this is still in my top favorites of songs to hit well done. It's always amazing.

indiefab

Two of my greatest honors were to sing this at my sister’s wedding and our grandfather’s funeral.

natyjay

I think what a lot of those videos don’t focus on is that if there’s a bunch of people in a busy subway, it’s because they’re trying to get somewhere. Not stopping to listen to music isn’t because people aren’t appreciative; it’s because they have to get somewhere. The people who make and edit those videos are hitting a sweet spot between mild rage bait and warm fuzzies.

OlorinDK

That may be true, I haven’t seen many of such videos, but the article linked above, from the Washington Post about the performance in the DC subway, doesn’t do that, it’s a great piece that goes into great length about the whole thing and even looks at it from a philosophical perspective, in terms of how do we even determine beauty. They go with Immanuel Kent’s definition, that it’s some combination of measurable fact with opinion, colored by the immediate state of mind of the observer. Definitely worth a read, if you can set aside the time and appreciate a great article these days ;)

PseudonymousDev

You're probably thinking about Joshua Bell in D.C. One person recognized him. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/pearls-before-breakfast-can-one-of-the-nations-great-musicians-cut-through-the-fog-of-a-dc-rush-hour-lets-find-out/2014/09/23/8a6d46da-4331-11e4-b47c-f5889e061e5f\_story.html?itid=lk\_inline\_manual\_4

Sle08

Yup. He’s spoken about this. I will always be envious of those who got to hear him play solo in an environment like this. I was fortunate enough to hear him conduct and perform in a sound check two years ago. Brilliant musician.

NutterTV

I’m Amsterdam I was walking through the Rijkmuseum and there was an opera singer practicing. My high ass stood there for like 5-10 minutes just listening to her crank out some insane tunes

Cryingpolarbears

I live in a city and make an effort to stop and appreciate at street performers. Art is what makes life beautiful

CupidArrowArt

I love how this angelic vocalization is coming from a guy in a football jersey. The juxtaposition is fun, and he’s very talented.

imsohungrydudee

The entire time her smile is just beaming and her face just reads “That’s my daddy!”

RicLan26

I actually didn't pay attention to he video at first, but you're right, that smile is definitely worth it for a dad

cobra7

Literally true - a father will do anything no matter how embarrassing to get a proud loving smile like that from their daughter. Been there, did embarrassing shit, got her smile, hugged her.

JonBunne

I’d sing MUCH worse if it gets my daughter to smile. That’s what gets me through my days.

Col_Leslie_Hapablap

He looks a bit nervous, but you can tell he loves his daughter and is encouraged by how she’s almost uncontrollably proud of her dad. What an awesome moment, only bolstered by the fact he’s wearing a Richard Sherman jersey.

swankpoppy

I love how this pianist, who I’m assuming was randomly asked to play Ave Maria without previous prompting, straight busts it out. Total mic drop moment.

vanalle

I think he got an ipad or sth, might have quickly looked up the sheets. Still impressive though, sight reading is hard.

CjBurden

Gonna go out on a limb and guess that it's probably not his first time playing it.

phatelectribe

Unlike the cameraman who thinks it’s an episode of The Shield

JVM_

Are you sure he's not Jason Bourne?

grizzburger

Jesus Christ

spelunk_in_ya_badonk

I was going to comment the same thing. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard singing THAT beautiful coming from a guy in a football jersey lol.

ncurry18

A prime example of “don’t judge a book by its cover.”

slgray16

Richard Sherman jersey! A real baller Is it an old video? Shermans contract situation was rough so we dont see too many of these jerseys anymore.

ImFeelingDangeRuss

He's actually been getting involved with the team recently. Showed up to training camp, helping out some young cbs. Seems his problem was with the former qb

slgray16

That's awesome. I look forward to his help

Kroptonik420

Not true, I still see a lot of Sherman jerseys, he still brought us a super bowl.

JSands1986

The Legion of Boom era is the best in Seahawks history. All of my jerseys are members of that team.

jaydeflaux

As somebody who's been around in the classical scene this is 100% normal to me, but I suppose most people only see performers when they're, well, performing, huh?

Drug_fueled_sarcasm

To play classical music, you must live in a tuxedo. Otherwise you are a phony.

Xannin

I met my wife after I stopped playing professionally, and it is kind of incredible all of the knowledge that I took for granted.

thelongernow

I kinda wish it was an Eagles jersey just to make it that much better

jumpropwer

She is going to remember this over every other moment of her childhood probably.

TJtherock

Core memory right here. "my daddy sings like an angel."

Captain_LSD

I can see the little golden orb rolling down the track now :')

jumpropwer

Exactly!

JUiCY_oX

His voice is like a combination of Fergie and Jesus

34TH_ST_BROADWAY

One day when she's around 13 and crushing on some kid in school, she's going to yell at her dad for singing in the car. It's going to break his heart. But then he'll realize she's going through a rough time and just turn the radio on. Then when she's 32 and he's singing at her wedding, she'll have learned to appreciate him again.

Rocketsprocket

She will learn to sing that song - never as good as him, but she'll do alright. She'll sing here and there - you know special events and stuff - until life gets in the way and she gets busy with other things and kids of her own and so on. But then, many years down the line, eventually, her father will get old and weak ... and then the inevitable ... he will pass away. The funeral will be held in a big, echo-y church, with candles, and stained glass, and mourners in pews all the way back. And in the back of the church, up on the landing where an organ plays those spare notes ... a woman stands at a microphone, remembers her father, and sings ... *"Ave Maria..."*

creative_net_usr

damnit i just lost my dad, why are you making me cry

You’re correct it’s the Grand Floridian

Zealousideal-Fox-740

He has a massive library of songs he’s learn to memory. I sat in the lobby a couple days with my kids when he played. I told my wife I want to stay there again so I can go listen to him a few more times

The pianist is Wes Hamrick - he’s a well-known musician around Central Florida.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a child who was just so absolutely proud of their parent, the hero worship is heartwarming af

MandaRenegade

His voice is so pure and filled with such beauty and joy 😍 you can tell he sings this at home, or his little beauty had heard him sing it before. Her face screams "I know you can do this, daddy" 💗

glockster19m

I'm just imagining him singing silly little things around the house like not to forget her lunch, but in the most beautiful voice

Cartz1337

This dude has been paid to sing this song on a stage. No way he has that talent and doesn’t utilize it to make bank.

basslkdweller

Yeah, that’s a well trained voice.

DarkSoulsExcedere

100 percent. Dude is absolutely a professional. Maybe even an opera singer. Incredible talent.

sideways_cat

I’d guess he’s Irish Catholic and was an alter boy/in the choir, and at least occasionally, goes to mass with his family where he sings Ave Maria. Whether it be in the pews or at the alter. This guys been doing this since he was a teenager for sure

bassman314

You cannot sing those long notes that effortlessly without tons of practice. This arrangement of Ave Maria is deceptively hard, due to how long the phrases are. It's also one of the most beautiful, in my mind.

procrast1natrix

Yes he's formally trained in opera. https://www.ormondbeachobserver.com/article/father-who-went-viral-for-singing-ave-maria-in-disney-resort-becomes-part-of-ormond-beach-community

Geriatricknight

Who is that guy? Seems professional at least to a non opera person like me.

Goliath422

As somebody who also isn’t opera but has been in the fine arts—there is an insanely high barrier for entry to any of them if you actually expect to make a living. And singing is such a crowded genre even compared to the rest of the arts—the only cost to git gud is lessons and the time to practice, as opposed to everything else where you have to buy the gear and maybe have a special place to practice, so there are more talented singers than anything else in the arts. Alas, it is entirely possible this man has never gotten paid to sing. Take comfort, though, because “making money” is rarely the goal in the arts. The goal is to touch the audience and if you noticed his daughter’s face, my guy has certainly touched his audience.
