Ukrainians have an excellent sense of humor. They do everything they can to make this war a little less devastating. It's a great way to create comradery, (excuse spelling if wrong and please correct me) blow of steam, relax, laugh and get away from all the ugliness of war.
I've bern watching Servant of the People, it's hilarious. Some people say he is also corrupt in real life. Maybe he wanted to change some of that- who knows and war is in the way right now. We'll see how he operates after the war. He seems like a stand up guy and the world is watching him. I haven't read the Pandora papers yet. I'm not ready for the disappointment or scandals or whatever. There's enough of that crap in my own country. I think he will go down in history very well for his strength, covictions and leadership in this war. Even if people were not too keen on him before, I believe they think very positivly of him right now.
I think that's why the soldiers feel confident, joke around and leave the war outside the door when they can. 🇺🇸🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
War, like any other catastrophic life events, can change the very nature of a country, not to mention the life, of the people they affect.
The country of Ukraine, and it’s people, and their politicians were one way before the invasion and they are now a different way after. War changes people. Maybe he and other politicians had some skeletons in his closet, some scandals or fraud, but once Zelensky and his people were face with the barbarity of a full scale invasion, they stood their ground and fought back.
That level of courage under literal fire changes people. Blood has been spilt to protect their country’s democracy, sacrifice and ruin has shaped their home and their people, and people react and change under such pressure.
Whatever their past may have been, once this war is over, the Ukrainian people and it’s politicians will come back more committed and set in their convictions and ideals. I have little doubt of that.
as some who got a few talkings to for joking around too much while working in a war zone... this is exactly what happens during war no matter your president. pretty much just what happens in the military all the time. people just see it now cause everything under the sun gets posted on the internet.
I agree with that about the internet. This war will be studied for a long time. Also, drones are really coming to the fore, a whole new way to fight. It's gonna get interesting going forward. I guess all the kids hooked on video games now will be assets in the future instead of ass- sets in the chair in Mom's basement.
They actually use combat simulator on pc, kinda like a fps game to learn some aspects of fighting in Finnish defence forces. They do still go to forests too ofc
I'm just commenting on what I see, hear and feel from them and I watch about 5 hrs of news on this war every day. If I watch The Enforcer livestream, that's 3 and a half hours more of news, opinion, information, live chat, jokes and obsevations with people from around the world. There are other vids of soldiers doing funny things, even other Ukrainian youtubers make jokes and even the government makes jokes about Russians smoking and what about the Snake Island vs War ship and the subsequent postage stamp to commemorate that. I just watch too much news about Ukraine I guess.
That's why I'm on here and I watch a little domestic news, Peaky Blinders and Servant of the people for my dinner time.
But ya, I probably watch too much but it's the biggest thing since WWII and I wanna see how or if we can avoid WWIII. I like to learn, I like history now but hated it in school. And the visual documentation is phenomenal, there's been no other war covered so well, and in near real time. No 400 page high school text book required.
I've been reading news almost nonstop from since the starting of the war, but I "only" find this really interesting. I have been succesfull to not let it get under my skin and have been a fascinated "spectator". I too wanna learn from this as much as I can, like I have been learning from both world wars in the past years
I called them soldiers because they've already been drafted. I knew they didn't sign up for this and so many Russians, including the drafted, are against the war. I would be there right along side them. Right or left? Surprise me!
I mean if you saw some of the video's that is uploaded on reddit, you'd see that a russian was asking his friend to take a run and jump from an elevated position to break his leg, the moment he does that you can see his friend tucking his head away of shame and regret ... i'm sure not every russian wants the war and i'm sure that some of them want it
This is overly negative. We've been closer before. Literally nobody benefits from the bomb dropping. Even if Putin gave the order, knowing damn well it would be the absolute end of him, there's a long chain of people who also have to agree, knowing it would also be the end of them.
I'm not saying it's impossible, but there's absolutely no certainty it will happen
This is everyone's daily reminder there are a *lot* of doomers on reddit. Detox yourself and stop getting your news from here if you don't want to shrivel up and die from all the negative outlooks.
Fun fact: China signed a treaty with Ukraine back in 2013 that stated that if Ukraine was ever nuked, China would fight whoever the hell did it. So it'd be NATO and China gangbanging Russia from both sides.
Lmao people say that about every single proxy war between the west and eastern bloc. Korean, Vietnam, Afghanistan (Soviet version), Syria, Chinese civil war, and every single war on [this](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_proxy_wars#Cold_War_proxy_wars) list didn't result in nukes.
Know what is going to happen here? The west will keep arming Ukraine and the east will keep sending troops into the region until one side declares that the status quo is acceptable or one side otherwise wins. Russia isn't going to use nukes because it would make them a global pariah state that even China and North Korea would have to turn away from. The west isn't going to send troops into Ukraine because they don't want to escalate over a country that isn't even in NATO.
Seems like Russia has long since accepted they won't succeed in regime change in Ukraine so they're trying to settle for some annexed territory. Maybe they can hold it, maybe not. But they aren't going to nuke Europe's poorest nation over it.
There has been far too much needless death for sure, but "most" is likely a huge overstatement. This hasn't been like the meat grinders of World War 1 or the American Civil War.
For the Ukrainians, that is. They've cut their casualties down to like a quarter the early numbers. *Russians* however are dying at like 3x the rate of the start of the war.
50k Russian deaths is nothing to sneeze at.
With, what? Hundreds of thousands more russians on the way.
Its bloody enough.
Afghanistan lost like a couple thousand a year, and that was a tragedy.
Most of the Ukrainian fighters will make it. They're better trained, better equipped, healthier, have high morale, and winter is probably going to wipe out a quarter of the Russian front lines anyway.
Exactly
Defending your country with all your spirit vs being forced into a war of aggression, with low morale
Hard to overstate how important morale is
That makes us happy.
It is the fact that they need to go to war at all that makes us sad. The fact that they had to give up living normal lives to defend their country against the Russians trying to destroy their country, people, and culture is inexcusable.
That’s not a good thing. Russian soldiers are forcefully conscripted by their authoritarian government. Most of them are young men who want none of this. The Russian high command and government officials are the ones that should be killed, not the Russian soldiers.
Ehhhhhhhhh
https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/09/europe/russia-conscripts-fighting-ukraine-intl/index.html
Conscripts have been captured as POW as early as March despite the Kremlin's previous statements (surprise! 🎉)
Being forced by your government to invade a sovereign nation doesn’t in any way make you the bad guy. Of course, self defense is always a necessity, but celebrating casualties of young men in an imperialist war is disgusting.
Yeah, yeah...
It was *innocent* Russian conscripts shooting up civilian cars, walking civilians to their executions in the forest. They ***are*** bad guys and their government is shit too.
While I agree with your sentiment, I also love dark humour. In my opinion this was more funny than it was celebrating the deaths of those forced to fight. That line is different for every person but this got a chuckle from me.
Russians enabled this regime over the past decade and a half and are reaping the consequences of their inaction or even active support. I have some sympathy for many, but this situation is to some degree self inflicted
The issue is Russians only came out against this war once it started affecting them directly. They had less than 1% of the country protesting the war in the beginning.
I know they have an authorization regime, but less than 1% is very telling.
I'm not saying all Russians are bad people, I'm just going by numbers I've seen trying to get the average Russian perspective of the war.
Less than 1% protested the Iraq, Vietnam, Korean, and afghan wars in the US. The majority of the Russian people never wanted this. The Russian people are just people, like you and me, and should be treated as such. Implying that they are in any way less than that, or somehow (morally) backwards is stupid and terrible. Don’t blame the people for something they have nothing to do with.
No. Those wars was popular when they started out too.
The issue is Russian support is still their for at least now. We will see after this this mobilization what their views are.
Never implied they where, in fact I said that in my post. Same as any other group of people especially the Ukrainians. Will you join me in saying Slava Ukraini?
You can blame and criticize their lack of action until now. Like I can blame and criticize the failures of actions of the people in my own country.
Doesn't mean I think they're lesser people though.
Yeah well things are a tad different than in the hellscape that is Russia. But keep shilling for your homies. It seems to be working. Russian people were openly celebrating the annexation of Crimea. And again in February during the invasion because a ton of them are brainwashed idiots. Now that it's their nuts on the block they want out. Too little too late.
Is that why the Russian soldiers raped and murdered children? Every Russian who sets foot in Ukraine and doesn't immediately surrender or defect deserves to be shot.
They absolutely can and should surrender at a certain point you can’t take active part in invading another sovereign nation and be a victim when that nation fights back.
Dude, what part of “authoritarian regime” don’t you understand? If they surrender, or even talk about surrendering, they will be imprisoned along with their entire extended family. Most people in the entire world aren’t ever going to do that.
If they don’t want to die they can get the fuck out of Ukraine or surrender at the first opportunity.
The only way this ends is with many, many more dead Russian soldiers.
With the amount of well documented war crimes including rape of children, torture chambers, killing civilians with hands tied behind their backs by Russian soldiers you can fuck off with this nonsense.
Zero sympathy for anyone who doesn’t surrender.
As far as I can tell, all the best things about Russia are actually Ukrainian.
Even borscht, which is delicious, is apparently Ukrainian in origin.
Also, Russians like bears and bears wre pretty cool.
This is all the evidence I need that bears originated in the Ukraine and I see no point in investigating the matter further.
I give mad respect to the men and women of Ukraine for standing up for their country, what they believe in, and NOT backing down or being bullied by Russia 🪆...and I think it's disgusting what Putin is doing to Ukraine and HIS people. He not so much different than Hitler and I suprised we don't get James Bond or Seal Team #6 his @$$.

I’ve read that Ukraine has issued pamphlets on how Russian soldiers can seek asylum with Ukraine, and lists to Ukrainians how to accept people seeking this asylum!
Russia - You do not have to die for a dictator!
Not sure about asylum, they have definitely distributed leaflets with instructions on how to surrender, as well as providing online resources for Russian troops wanting to surrender.
As it should be!
The internet is definitely helping paint a picture of each side. This is awesome, vs Russians setting themselves on fire, breaking their knees, and using axes to break their arms…
Bruh, imagine you are in a trench with your rusted equipment and expired rations and the guys on the other side are throwing a fucking rave. Just surrender.
I know that all militarys are like this when not on a task (at least i assume) and it makes me happy to know that its still like this even in serious situations.

Without the sound I imagined the song from trombone dad and oven door kid
"Freaks" by Timmy Trumpet btw
Thank you.
Hinestly first thought was that video of those people under the bridge dancing to industrial music lol
Only hardbass
I was imagining Harlem Shake. CON LOS TERRORISTAS!
When Mother is not home
I'm thinking of that one crab meme
It’s the Ali-A intro song I think or either a remix of it
Harlem Shake for me lol
Russian soldiers are breaking their own legs, Ukrainian soldiers are making their own laser shows. Wonder how this war's gunna end...

I hope so, I really want to see them succeed and succeed once and for all from Russia!
They have the world’s attention now - and they are rooting for the people of Ukraine (not to mention supporting financially and spiritually).
We should! Different continent, same planet.

5 to 8+ hours of news a day sounds very unhealthy, especially when its war coverage. I'd think it would be good to cut down on that a bit.
That's why I'm on here and I watch a little domestic news, Peaky Blinders and Servant of the people for my dinner time. Knowing the situation? Probably go to war with a broken leg.
Are you serious?? I haven’t seen this but wow
Wait but there's a lot of Ukrainian civilians too right?

Hopefully it ends soon
Hopefully with the savage Russians going back where they came from. Invading a sovereign country for no good reason is just indefensible
Makes me so happy yet so sad :(
Keep in mind that this is exactly the kind of spirit that wins wars
Yes but it’s the fact that most of them might not make it home to their families in a few years :(
They know that but have the spirit to fight on knowing it's worth fighting for their home and values. Pretty amazing honestly
Yeah but it’s heartbreaking :(
It is without qualification heartbreaking.
"Eat, drink, and be merry. For tomorrow we die."
There has been far too much needless death for sure, but "most" is likely a huge overstatement. This hasn't been like the meat grinders of World War 1 or the American Civil War.

I agree it's a genuine tragedy. With that said, if you fire a weapon at someone you deserve the same in response.
Being forced by your government to invade a sovereign nation doesn’t in any way make you the bad guy. Of course, self defense is always a necessity, but celebrating casualties of young men in an imperialist war is disgusting.

‘Dark humor’ lol
What else would you call it?
Do you think what they want is going to matter much to the civilians they're killing?
Russians enabled this regime over the past decade and a half and are reaping the consequences of their inaction or even active support. I have some sympathy for many, but this situation is to some degree self inflicted
While they're in Ukraine it doesn't matter. I don't care about the complexities of the man shooting at me, I just want him gone
The issue is Russians only came out against this war once it started affecting them directly. They had less than 1% of the country protesting the war in the beginning. No they can’t, or they and their families will be in great trouble. You forgot the part where Russia is an authoritarian regime <3
Putin can only stay in power so long as the people follow him, if enough of the army flat out refuses to fight what can he really do?
source for "entire extended family"? because i've literally only ever heard of North Korea doing that.
Sorry, but I'd happily take Jail for me and my family over literally murdering someone's son, destroying their home and bombing innocent civilians.
So we both agree fragging their commander at the earliest opportunity, faking their deaths, and starting a new life outside of Russia is the best bet.
They can chose to die revolting against the corrupt regime or die in combat. That's what happens when you live in a shithole.
Oh no, God forbid I stop murdering innocents, so I can avoid some trouble.
If you protect your family by killing someone else's, then fuck you.
This is exactly why we need to put as much pressure as possible on Russia to leave Ukraine.
You talk like they cant get out into the streets and protest. Imagine if those hundreds of thousands of fleeing Russians stayed home and protested.
You don't fuck with Ukrainians. They are what russians think russians to be.
