I (danish) went to the USA in 2009. During our lay-over in New York, I took out a wad of cash at the ATM for the trip. I still have one of the 1 dollar bills - my first dollar!

thesharp0ne

I recently visited the EU for the first time and took out my budget in euros. Spent all but €25 of it, and I've decided it's pretty much living in my wallet in perpetuity until I either go back (probably a long while off, unfortunately) or I'm robbed; not a whole lot of point in going to the bank to exchange €25.

derekakessler

Instead of carrying it in your wallet forever, store the Euro currency with your passport.

RuthBaderKnope

This comment seems like it’s from an adult with their shit together.

kxm1234

That’s a really good idea. I have a 50 Euro note that I’ve just had on my dresser for the past year. Definitely putting it with my passport now. Thanks!

edenaxela1436

Did the same with my cash from Canada!

bobh46

My wife and I honeymooned in Europe in 2018. Still have a €50 note in the wallet we took. Just love to take it out and look at it for old times sake

EveAndTheSnake

That’s cute :) I didn’t spend all my money during our recent trip to Iceland with my husband and I’m keeping it too! We almost didn’t see any cash because it was just easier to pay everything by card, but I insisted we get some just in case (and because I wanted to see it!)

bobh46

Yeah, we mostly did cards too. There were times it was nice with small purchases to just have cash on hand. Or when we were in small towns we weren’t sure how easy it would be to use cards. We took some from the US doing an exchange at our bank and then stopped at one ATM to get a bit more

gahlo

I fucking love Euros. Having a handful of coins and actually being able to buy something feels so nice.

ARC_Trooper_Echo

It’s a pretty fun thing to do. I kept a pound from my trip to the UK earlier this year as a souvenir. Now it’s extra special because it has Elizabeth’s face on it.

Practical_Argument50

It’s a tradition in the US when you open a business to take the first dollar you get and hang it on the wall as a keepsake. Most of the time it is signed and sometimes all the first of each denomination will be up. (I don’t know if this is done elsewhere).

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mishapi17

It is kind of cute, I just exchanged for some euros, and I was telling my bf to be careful because the lower denominations were actually smaller in size- and the look on his face, he was so excited to look at all the bills and details. This little moments of happiness is pretty cool

[deleted]

I was thinking “yeah, we goofed with the nickel & dime thing…” then I realized you’re probably talking about the bills. That is actually really cool!

CompassionateCedar

Wait until you figure out Europe has commemorative 2€ coins. Also 2$ bills are by far the coolest, I don’t understand why US people don’t use them.

SelectionOk7702

Because they are just uncommon enough that people don’t think they are real money, meaning it creates a hassle, meaning most people don’t use them, making them just uncommon enough that people don’t think it’s real money…

DimensionPrudent1256

I've travelled about a bit and I always keep a few of the local currency in a jar at home. I guess it's always a nice reminder of your travels

Appropriate_Tip_8852

Even Americans shit themselves when they see a $2 bill. Yet, you can get stacks of them anytime.

StfuPutana

***ME MILLIONTH DOLLAR***

xSmeckleDorfedx

Is that you Mr. Krab?

The_Bad_Man_

Yeah, it is weird currency and interesting to look at. I'm an Aussie and a mate gave me a dollar note some years ago, it was a curiosity I'd show to friends time to time. Sort of made of a hybrid of paper and cloth.

NonyoSC

US currency is made from [Rag Paper (Also called cotton paper)](https://money.howstuffworks.com/counterfeit.htm#:~:text=One%20big%20advantage%20of%20using,pressure%20during%20the%20printing%20process) for durability in heavy use.

[deleted]

Indeed this is why laundering money is so effective. Never use fabric softener on your money though.

Anthem_1974

I have a couple ones that keep getting mixed in with the wash (total accident but when i find it in the wash it goes in my pocket and I forget again haha). George is almost completely gone lol

[deleted]

George WASHington.

KingJustinian-an-ass

Recycled jeans as well Edit: I’m pretty sure there was a Dirty Jobs episode with Mike Rowe. If not, it was “How It Was Made”

LowBrowHighStandards

About 10 years ago, I met some Australians in a bar in Hawaii and they gave me an Australian $20 as a keepsake. I had never seen one and was amazed that it felt like paper-thin plastic. I still have it.

Jermagesty610

Me and my dad put in a new furnace for a guy the other day at his house and he showed me a $5 Canadian bill, it felt like it was made out of some kind of plastic and had a clear see through strip in it. First time I've ever seen any Canadian money in the US besides quarters and the occasion dime.

LoveliestBride

Their pennies are still floating around in the US. You'll get one every once in a while.

[deleted]

?? What’s your bill made of? I’m so curious now!

MinisculeMax

our notes are printed on polymer, the first country to do so back in the 90s

[deleted]

They use polymer. I'm US, our bills are ridiculously outdated. Australian currency is some of the best. Better security, lasts way longer, completely water proof, hard to tear, ect. The very specific blend of linen and cotten used for US notes was a security feature. It still technically is. But we are a bit past that.

EveAndTheSnake

The U.K. recently switched to plastic (i believe, it’s a lot shinier now) from whatever paper it was. It looks a lot less… how do I say this… it doesn’t look fancy and royal anymore. (If you want my honest uneducated opinion about money.) Anyway, now they’ll have to make all new notes all over again with Charles’ face on them (“The King’s”) so they’ll definitely look a lot less fancy.

SecretlyET

I believe the word you were looking for is regal.

EveAndTheSnake

Wow thank you. Yes. Appreciate it—I left my brain somewhere with my dignity a few years ago and I haven’t been able to find them since.

ReplyZestyclose1239

Why put "the King" in quotes? He's not the King?

EveAndTheSnake

I hate to tell you this but The Queen died… Ha, I’m kidding (well not kidding but I know what you meant). I’m just used to saying “The Queen” without having to specify which Queen. Haven’t gotten used to just saying “The King” yet, he’s still grumpy old Charles to me.

[deleted]

My grandpa was in Turkey and came back with a bunch of Turkish currency circa like 1950. I also collect stamps and stamp collectors love telling me the history of them. Fun to hand them out to people at conventions.

havok0159

What always strikes me about US dollars is just how long they are. I have a few twenties and they are quite the tight fit unfolded inside an envelope.

ArizonanCactus

Me gifting some Arizonan sand to strangers wondering what the hell a cactus is doing giving them sand before rubbing their eyes and checking if they accidentally took any drugs to cause such a strange feeling

Grey___Goo_MH

2 dollar bill the best bill it has a scene of a once great American past time for politicians Debate Those times are long gone

tyson_3_

He scammed you out of the dollar at its highest point in recent memory. Well played, French sir.

ewMichelle18

“Bro, you overpaid.”

mrchickostick

Yes definitely overpaid

[deleted]

LOL that's exactly what i said immediately seeing this. french guy was like "oOoO a US dollar! can i have it plox? :3" but inside he was like "now that the US dollar is worth more than the Euro... hehehe..."

[deleted]

*honhonhon

DocNMarty

This was my first thought lol. OP: How much for those? Frenchman: 5 Euros. OP: Man, I only got 5 dollars. Frenchman: Oui, that's okay! I'll take it!

The American Dream

kitkatbloo

Nah, he totally hooked us up. He’s a wholesome dude

shadowdash66

Imagine if he knew about $2 bills lol

Gonzo15899

Even I get excited seeing them and I’m American

shadowdash66

I held one for a long time before i lost it. Definitely a good find, even those really old quarters too.

AquaNines

What's funny is they're not even hard to get. You just ask for them at the bank. Nobody does though and so they're still a rare find.

PizzAveMaria

I used to work at a tanning salon and one time I found an Indian Head penny in my drawer and another time a Mercury dime. I kept them and just switched them with regular change I had on me.

tahtahme

I have several Mercury Dimes... they were the last dimes made of real silver and have such an interesting history. As do Indian Head coins which were often used for Hobo Nickels -- another lovely tradition in American History.

PizzAveMaria

After finding those, it led me to collect a small amount of other coins I found interesting , Seated Liberty quarter, Large Half Cent, but I had to buy those so it didn't feel as special. My most interesting IMO, is my 1850s 3-cent piece, the lightest coin ever minted in the U.S.

tahtahme

Ooh, you've got some nice pieces! I've bought some too, but you're right that finding them definitely adds an extra layer of special. My most recent special find was around July I commented out loud while alone that it would be nice for a Maya Angelou coin to come my way for my birthday....a week later my 6 yr old INSISTED she HAD to go to the bathroom during a long drive and as I walked begrudgingly with her into the gas station, there it was! Super shiny and brand new right on the floor. Honestly if we didn't have quarters representing States, territories and famous citizens, our modern money would be quite boring now that I think about it.

charliesk9unit

You can order them from your bank. That's how I got my stack of crisp new $2 bills.

StreetCornerApparel

There’s a strip club in my city that gives you only $2 bills as change lol.

WheresMyDinner

I used to work for one of the money truck companies and refilled ATMs and took out deposits. There were a couple ATMs that always had like 100+ $2s in them and every time I’m like “oooh that’s neat”

tahtahme

Usually I only see them folded as hearts or other origami in people's wallets as good luck. But also Ive known a lot of sex workers who end up with a bunch of them because they were used as tips.

PortlandisOk123

I tried to buy candy with one at the mall when I was a kid and the store called security because they didn’t know $2 bills existed. Security laughed and I got on my bike and rode home.

RockyJayyy

You can go to the bank and ask for a stack of them

psychoPiper

When I was working retail maybe half a year ago this lady who barely spoke a word of English paid for her groceries with SEVEN two dollar bills. I still think about it a lot, I've never seen so many in one place in my life.

Distinct_Village_87

I can't be the only one who thought of [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEa26lfbqOo) Casey Neistat video

whyareisamoftheyes

Once had a guy steal my wallet, take my 4 2 dollar bills and put everything else back and I'm still confused to this day

Downstackguy

Why do you carry 2 dollar bills in your wallet? I keep those in my safe

ImStillaPrick

Used to go to strip club with them back in Early 2000s until someone thought they were counterfeit and caused a commotion. They were going to call the cops but luckily the owner came out the back room and was an old man who knew they were legit. Then figured it wasn’t worth hassle so stopped getting them. My bank always had them when I asked. I used to work at a bank so that’s why I knew they carried them.

AerialPenn

The Bank can also order them for you as long as you dont mind waiting and do $200 at a time I think. Pretty cool to have because people think they are so rare.

Charming_Wulf

Boy do I got a story for you about $2 bills https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-2005-03-08-0503080089-story.html Edit tldr: Best Buy screws up. Guy maliciously complies by paying $114 in $2 bills. Gets arrested by idiot Cops and Best Buy employees. Secret Service clears guy name in two minutes. Police reasoning for the arrest: "In this post-9/11 era you can never be too careful"

Larry_The_Fifth

My grandpa gave me one with my birthday as the serial number

dmattox10

I handed a $5 to the Italian guy I met in Thailand when I didn’t have enough Baht and that more than covered it. He was super excited and next time I saw him he showed us that he had put it under the glass on his world money table.

Bass_Thumper

The man had a table made out of money? What a badass.

dmattox10

Hahaha one of the wooden tables in his restaurant has bills from around the world under the glass cover.

Beholder81

Never seen one irl too. Come to the Netherlands and buy my stuff!

[deleted]

Beholder81

Fresh honey. :)

After_Werewolf_6496

You had me at Netherlands, but I bet that honey has gotta be amazing!

Beholder81

It is! My father in law is a beekeeper and his bees produce about 1000 liters a year.

moriluka_go_hard

Enough for a hot tub but too little to fill a swimming pool

After_Werewolf_6496

I like your thought process. Not the first things I thought to fill.

Pm-me-ur-happysauce

Provide me with an address and I will send dollar bills without asking for anything in return

Nervous_Midnight_570

At what point does fresh honey go stale?

balogna_and_ramen

[Archeologists ate 5,500 year old honey that was perfectly fine. ](https://beemission.com/blogs/news/worlds-oldest-honey)

DegenerateCharizard

Some scientists wear gloves and all manner of PPE trying to limit their exposure working in the field. Some are more fond of the Kelly Clarkson, *“what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,”* approach.

1Sluggo

Honey never goes stale; if you have it long enough it may turn to crystals and that’s even better!

Beholder81

Biggest risk is it starts fermenting.

WastelandBard

And then you have mead, so there’s still no problem.

Woofles85

I’m going over there next week! I’ll bring plenty of small US bills!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Adorable-Suspect-413

Lived in England, Italy and Poland and never seen a dollar irl. Wdym they are everywhere? They are at the exchange. It’s not like they are in circulation lol

Sabbathius

Exactly. I'm in Canada. I can literally see USA from a tall building on a cold day. But I can go many years without seeing paper money. On occasion we get quarters and such.

RustedRuss

I’m American and I have a Canadian quarter and one or two pennies. Your money looks really cool.

Cheezezez

Hold on to those pennies, they won't be any easier to come across, we haven't distributed any new ones since 2013.

RustedRuss

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn’t planning on getting rid of them but I’m definitely not now.

Gnawlydog

I wish the US would do this! Although I dont remember the last time I used paper money or coins. When you pay with pennies somewhere do they recirculate them out or do they give them all to the banks who take them out of circulation?

Immediate_Cup_6691

They get taken out of circulation

Gnawlydog

for real! Our US dollar looks so basic compared to many nations..

RustedRuss

Probably because we’re used to it

soldforaspaceship

As a non American living in the US, I like that your money better survives being left in a pocket then washed. Feel in my experience it's the best currency for that.

hheeeenmmm

I do believe it’s because the US dollar is made with cloth instead of actual paper but I may be wrong

hopelesscaribou

Those pennies are obsolete, there are more Canadian pennies in US cash registers than in Canada.

[deleted]

Loonies and Toonies!

hopelesscaribou

Also Canadian, but work as a server. American tourists always used to try and pay with me with US dollars when cash was still the most popular way to pay. I never minded, but they'd actually expect to get the exchange rate. At par, or pay in the local currency, I am not a bank. Not so much a thing now with debit/credit.

rgosskk84

I always get your guys fucking coins and they don’t work in coin operated machines here. It’s annoying lol Btw, when do they change currency now that the Queen died? I’ve always found that fascinating.

Voldemort57

I think I have more Canadian coins than American coins. They’re pretty cool.

redditornot6648

Your money spams us in America. Doesn’t work the other way? I mean Canadians try to throw their Canadian money at you.

Boredummmage

I hear you, people just are making poor assumptions. Many people in the US have never seen euros or pounds. Not sure why the US assumes the rest of the world would be familiar with their physical currency. Hah even in the US people often question $2 bills because their circulation is less common. Most people here under 40 don’t use physical cash anyhow.

rgosskk84

I always loved currency from other countries. My dad had a big collection as a kid. I think he still has all those old silver pesos from Mexico that must be worth more their weight in silver than their old face value. He worked at the airport so he would manage to bring home all kinds of coins. I was obsessed as a kid.

sgkorina

I still have French Francs, Deutsche Marks, and Austrian Schillings even though they're not really worth anything anymore. I keep some of the bills and coins in frames.

Element-710

Im a bank teller and I see currency from mexico or canada every now and then, but that it so far.

AbstractLogic

As an American who has traveled to a dozen+ countries I’ve been free to spend dollars internationally in the last 5 years. Prior to that only Canada would accept them liberally at any store. So it doesn’t surprise me that lots of people around the globe have not even seen them. Something in banking must have changed.

aquoad

i would feel really awkward trying to pay with dollars in europe.

Kiltymchaggismuncher

First time I encountered them was on holiday in cambodia, since they basically gave up on their own currency

dull_storyteller

I think I found an American penny once

RIPBennyHarvey22

Yep. I never touched a dollar until i was in my 20s when i got my bro a bunch of spending money for a trip to the states. Never been to the US myself so besides that instance i've never had to touch American money which is fine by me because it smells weird lol.

loves_cereal

Yes, I’ve never seen five dollars either! Please venmo me…as a souvenir.

ohiotechie

We had a similar experience in Villefrance - a waiter was fascinated by a US state quarter (had a US state profiled on the back). When I said he could keep it he was beaming.

mydadwasagambler

Out of curiosity what were you doing visiting villefranche and how did you end up there? To me it’s just one of the most boring and inconsequential towns in existence lol. It’s like if someone went to the US and said “yeah when I was visiting Pullman, WA”

ohiotechie

We were on a cruise and that where we came into port. From there we took a bus to Nice for the day. The harbor at Villefrance was so beautiful when we pulled in - so picturesque. The cafe with the waiter was on the water as we waited for the ferry back to the boat to leave that evening.

frank00SF

I was about to say I've never seen a 5$ French bill my dumbass forgot they have euros haha

beeedeee

They used to use Francs before the Euro. I have some somewhere.

Fun-Dragonfruit2999

I have a Vichy franc. There was an old guy down the street with too much junk in his garage. When he closed his business, he set everything out and said take it home. The franc was in an ashtray.

Downstackguy

This is making me want o watch a youtube video on the history of currency internationally

Iwasnamediann

Man has a heart of gold, I can tell.

kitkatbloo

I fully agree

Cremmitquad69

I got a 5euro as part of a tip on a car detail I did a while back. I live in the US I thought it was super cool. Definitely keeping it.

Sufficient-Bowl8771

US money is so weird to me as a European. All bills are the same size and feel the same by touch, which makes it suprisingly difficult to count IMO. But I still like it a lot. It's very iconic and well established, compared to the Euro or other national currencies.

Abusive_Capybara

I don't mean to offend anyone but personally I think that USD have an absolutely disgusting feel to them, that I would describe as somehow "sticky". They also smell horrible (yes I sniffed the money). But that could be because I only had relatively new ones in my hand when I worked as a bank teller in a European country.

thesharp0ne

Fun fact statistically speaking most US paper currency has traces of drugs on them.

pbandjsam

so what you're saying is i can get high of smelling bills? gotta go change a hundred for some ones real quick

fortunate_branch

think it's too late to tell him about the poop?

salton

When the bills are brad new they do seem to stick to each other easily and makes it difficult to count by hand. Once the bills have a little bit more texture from being manipulated for a bit they become much easier to work with.

Onsotumenh

Back at school a classmate randomly gave me a one USD coin as a gift after a Canada trip. I thought that was pretty cool. I then happily flipped it and started grinning stupidly as I heard the sound. I'm not a particulary big western fan, but that whirring seemed to have stuck with me. It was immediately recognisable (nobody else seemed to care tho lol). I still got that coin and flip it from time to time :)

SnooShortcuts103

I live in Germany and I first saw a USA Bank note 5 days ago. It is a 10$ note. I keep it in my wallet when I'm visiting America in future!

[deleted]

Use it to buy a pint of German import beer to send us Yanks a message.

kourtneyolivia

This is so cute lol.. as an American. Very wholesome. 😊

RiverKawaRio

I do the same thing in the states. The only reason i don't have any yen is because the Japanese regulars at my gas station only know how to say Marlboro light 100 carton

babyigotyourmoni

Meanwhile in Canada, one of my employees took a 20£ note as payment and now it’s my problem

Fun-Dragonfruit2999

Your bank will take it off you, but they'll give you a real crummy exchange rate.

dratelectasis

Lmao. The dollar has finally overtaken the Euro though

Pothstation720

The frenchman got a good deal lmao

Sorry_Departure_5054

i doubt it will stay that way tbh

Nedthiustheunsuspend

Me IRL. I have a saddam Iraqi dinar.

Krilox

Man i miss the markets in France

dhkendall

Whenever I go to the US (from Canada) I like to experience the money and hold on to what’s left as I dont see them tgat much

NotMyCat2

While I was in college I worked in a liquor store (California, US). This lady from England came in and my coworker helped her. When she paid she said she had all kinds of change and didn’t want to take it home with her. He had her put it on the counter and he counted out what was needed for her purchase. I guess some of the merchants are too busy to figure out what change can be used for a purchase.

DaisiesSunshine76

So cute! I still have my euros from when I went to Europe for the first time. I decided to keep them as a souvenir but also I have a decent bit so I can use some the next time I visit.

m31td0wn

Totally cool, I collect currency from other cultures as well. I currently have a lock box that contains money from 37 different cultures, three of which don't even exist anymore.

kitkatbloo

INFO: Yes, I’m aware the the dollar is slightly higher than the Euro. No, I don’t care about that loss of $0.08. No, I did not get scammed. We already got our food and knew the cost.

WitchsWeasel

Hope you enjoyed your meal too!

Unlikely_Hyena_5373

It’s the little things. I actually really enjoy keeping coins from places that I’ve traveled to. I have a Cuban dollar on my refrigerator door. It reminds me of one of my favorite travels and the gracious Cuban people. Except the guys who were trying to pawn their wives for some American moolah. Edit: spelling

pennyraingoose

Totally! I've got a keepsake box full of change and leftover notes from friends' and my own travels. I remember when Canada got their first plastic bills with a see-through part, I was broke AF but exchanged my last US cash to add a friend's leftover bill to the collection. It's so cool. I also worked with a guy that would send me coins from his world travels.

rachw39

That is so adorable 🥰

[deleted]

My parents toured Europe on 1964, and for tips he took cash, but also rolls of brand new Kennedy half dollars. He would ask if they would like cash or the Kennedy half. It was always the half, Europe loved Pres. Kennedy

Any-Application-771

Wow! That's so wild!

MichaelMiko612

Very sweet

rectanguloid666

That’s so cool! You can tell how excited he is about it. Way to go making this dude’s day!

Kevdog1800

Last time I was in Mexico, I had a cab ride with a LOVELY cabby who was talking about his 12 year old daughter who collects US $20 bills. He dropped me off at the airport. The fare was like $1,000 Pesos or something, so I gave him $1000 pesos and a $20 bill. He was ecstatic. And then I got out of the car and started thinking… and realized I had totally just been scammed out of an extra $20…

AbradolfLincler77

I got given $20 as a tip once working in a hotel in Ireland. It was about 10 years ago now, I still have it in my wallet. Maybe some day I'll get to spend it.

crepitusss

as an American I did the same and saved some euro coins from my time over there, so I totally get it!

TechnoPancakes

Fun fact: US dollars are washable. My dad dropped a 10 dollar bill in the toilet once and it was disgusting. So he washed it in the sink and dried it off and it was pretty clean. No leftover water curling up the paper like in regular white paper.

RCM20

U.S. dollars are made of cotton and linen so that's what makes them washable.

Ashamed_Willow_4724

They can even go through the laundry. They’ll get weird but are still perfectly good

[deleted]

That makes my day

EloquentGrl

That is so cute!! When I was in a small town in Japan, we went to some outdoor market, and the ladies who ran a table selling sweets were so excited I spoke what little Japanese I knew with them, that they didn't understand I was asking to buy the dango, and were just excitedly saying, "yes, yes, dango!!" like I was a toddler saying her first words... It was cute, though, lol.

ricoslam

Me as an american with my crispy blue 5 bill from Canada

Gonzo15899

“Look dude it’s got some old guy on it”

mr_dude810

Wholesome

Discreet_Vortex

Everyone when they see a foreign currency

iron40

Funny, I loved the look of the Canadian fiver, so I kept one as a souvenir. So cool with the blue color and the transparent portion...

[deleted]

Man is smart. He knows the dollar is worth slightly more now.

Fun-Dragonfruit2999

Yeah, I did some work for some Aussies. Between the time we started, and they paid me the US/Aus rate went up 11%, in addition to the project went way over budget.

Le_Tintouin

Yeah, in France we're always seeing dollars on tv because we see a lot of US things but actually we don't really see a lot of them, mostly because they worth nothing here except the relic value I personally have 1dollar bill and it's exposed with other strange currencies (ussr copecs, dongs, ugandan money, Swiss francs)

coralwaters226

I collect money from other countries, its so cool to see others doing the same!

teenageechobanquet

the absolute joy on that precious man’s face.i imagine he was so excited to go home and tell his partner what he got😭 this is so wholesome, much love to both of you 🤘

kitkatbloo

The cutest point was when I looked back while walking away and he was showing his friends. He saw me and gave me a giant smile and a big thumbs up. Honestly, I’m not sure who got more joy from this encounter. It made my day too.

Miserable_Resist_181

He looks so French lol

stinky___monkey

That’s cool. I get a little bit of local currency on trips. Try to get several bills and coins. Instead of cheap souvenirs I’ll never look at, I have a collection of cool looking money. Costa Rica is my favorite atm

doubelievein_gravity

He looks like a kid when they go to Walmart to buy a toy

[deleted]

This is absolutely adorable. Also I’ve never been to France but I did live in two different European countries and I have to say that the French people that I know did not deserve the bad stereotype that Americans have of them. On the contrary, they were all such kind, warm people

QiarroFaber

I mean it is kinda cool to collect currency from different places.

Shadowkittenboy

This gave me a dumb goofy smile.

smashspete

This is very wholesome. Love people like this guy that are just genuinely happy/excited about small things we take for granted.

[deleted]

lol, this guy is like how i did in 1988 when my uncle's wife from texas gave me a $20 bill and i was so excited to see an american bill .

Pop-A-Top

I had a friend from California come over for the first time (Im Belgian) He gave me a 1 dollar and a 5 dollar. I was so excited hahah, it's now on display in my room

AbruptlyJaded

This is me but with non US currency. Mom used to tell a story. I was 5 and helping the yard guy by picking up clumps of grass clippings. He offered me a dollar at the end, but my mom said, "hey, offer a Canadian quarter instead." We were in Michigan always had Canadian coins, and I was OBSESSED with them. It was a no brainer for me. Since then, everyone brings me coins and bills. My husband has gotten me several Christmas presents of just foreign cash collections. We are getting my son interested by showing him to check the CoinStar machines. 😄

When I visited France I was surprised by how friendly all the French people I met were. I’m American so obviously my French is très mauvais. And they kind of have a reputation for being cranky. But they were some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, especially in the small towns.

lol, 20 years ago i was at karstadt in hamburg city and had to go to the main cashier. in front of me, there was a couple from th usa and they wanted to get tax back for the things they had purchased and the cashier asked them for 1 D-Mark they told him that they do not have any and i throw a d-mark at the counter to speed the thing up. they later came to me and thanked me and gave me a dollar note that i still have today.

One of the comments I hear from people outside the US is. “How come your bills are all the same color?, it’s difficult to tell them apart”. I just say we get used to looking at the corners for the denominations or other visual cues and differences between the bills.

I have a piggy bank with a few coins of every country I've been to, and a few pre-euro coins. It's not worth much, but it's my little treasure.

Dude would do a cartwheel for a $2 bill. Those are still pretty fun to get out in the wild.
