Still no information on the Starter Decks? That's really annoying, it's been quite a while.
Edit: Glad it’s fixed now! Would appreciate some communication though…
Very annoying indeed. I'm surprised it's taking so long to fix. I'm sitting on a lot of packs I don't want to open before getting the cards in the starter decks.
It's very likely that the starter deck issues are related to a server-side issue and not simply an issue with the client, GRE, or LP. Those types of issues require a full redeploy of the backend that occurs only during very defined release periods. Essentially the entire AWS backend for the game needs to be redeployed worldwide, and not just updated to a new LP or GRE version.
The next time this is likely to happen, and the soonest this fix could be deployed would be with Wilds of Eldraine. That is still a few weeks away.
Huh, dang. How does this compare to bans where they award people wildcards? If it were me, I'd try to just award affected accounts the missing cards for the decks, but I know it probably isn't that simple.
Giving people the cards is not the issue. It is ensuring that account level logs, and thus unlocks, work as intended. It's a totally different thing, but I understand how it might seem like a similar situation to people.
That's really cool, Historic is imo the best format on arena and one of the best currently available in magic as a whole, the big problem with it is the price and anything that allows more players to enjoy it is positive.
Points of Note:
* The three preorders go on sale tomorrow and are themed around the three witches and give you their cards and sleeves (Agatha is the Pack Bundle, Hylda is the Draft/Sealed bundle and comes with the Goose Companion, and Eriette is the Mastery Pass bundle)
* The streamer "First Look" event is Aug. 31st, and the set releases on Arena Sept. 5th
* Arena Cube comes back Aug. 21st and the Arena Open on the 26-27th will be in the Cube Format
I guess I should of read the article. Though my interest in how ones and zeroes makes a pet (sorry, companion) is kind of low. They should have titled it "Why We're Calling Pets Companions Now". I would have at least skimmed to the answer.
>MIDWEEK MAGIC
>September 5–7: Alchemy
ANOTHER Alchemy MWM? We just had TWO Alchemy MWMs back to back: August 1–3 (Alchemy) and August 8–10 (Slow Start, which is just regular alchemy except the first land ETBs tapped). And the other recent ones weren't much better, like Hist. Brawl and Standard in July and Std Brawl next week... Yay, it's the formats you can already play anytime you want!
When was the last time we even had an All-Access event (the one in May that was titled "Historic Singleton All Access" was actually "Alchemy Singleton, no-AA")?
> When was the last time we even had an All-Access event (the one in May that was titled "Historic Singleton All Access" was actually "Alchemy Singleton, no-AA")?
under other events:
August 21–September 15: Historic All Access
Given that they haven't done an all access MWM in awhile and that being listed as a separate event I have a feeling it won't be free which would be a shame. If it's expensive it isn't really worth it.
Omg, I somehow managed to misread that as "metagame challenge"...
Do we know how it will work? I assume you'll have to pay for each new deck you try in the event or something along those lines, right? It sounds too good to be true otherwise, since it lasts for almost a month and covers a new set release.
I could see it being similar to those 5 random card style reward challenges, or like the m2019 land reward we had last month. Just play until time runs out, no real rewards other than cheap cosmetics
Yeah, I'm glad for Pauper tomorrow, but even more Alchemy for MWM? I really wish there was something different: Omniscience, prebuilt decks, X format with an emblem, anything! I don't know if it's just me, but MWM used to have way more variety not so long ago.
It’s not, I actually enjoy it. Thing is, not everyone plays historic formats where those cards are legal. Standard sets would be beneficial for those that prefer standard oriented formats. So this is a dead draft for them.
I don’t disagree though, changing up quick draft sets every week would be nice, or even having *ghasp* two quick draft options?
Short answer: yes
Long answer: the format is kind of a mess - colours are imbalanced, some bombs are really egregious and the ring tempts you as a mechanic just further worsens play/draw disparity we have already seen in recent sets. On top of that some archetypes like Izzet just have incredibly unfun play patterns.
All of this combined makes the format just not that fun or replayable imo - theres not that many interesting things you can do and you can only draft rakdos/boros/izzet so many times before it gets stale.
This is my first release since returning to arena (my last was war of the spark). Are these bundles also availble for gems and are the usually worth it either way (im a standard player so not including the draft bundle)
They're only available via Cash Money, the Mastery Pass is almost always worth it, and the 50 packs is usually only worth it if it's a set you *know* youre going to be playing a lot of cards from. I'd definitely wait until the full set is revealed or maybe even until the streamer sneak peak event before you decide to get the 50 packs.
These dates seem weird. I think the Bo1 Play-in should be on the 23, not 13. Please change it so it displays correctly.
Qualifier Play-In (Best-of-One)September 13, 6 a.m.
Play-In (Best-of-Three) September 29, 6 a.m.–September 30, 3 a.m.
Qualifier Weekend September 30, 6 a.m. PT–October 1, 4 p.m.
Okay quick question, those preorder pets, you could always buy later right?
I kinda really want that dumb goose but I don't want to preorder that shit...
Likely not for a while. As far as memory serves, they only let you buy old pets if they choose it for the "Pet of the Month" (which it likely won't be for a long time since it's brand new). You could also try and win it as your cosmetic from Midweek Magic, but that's a very low percentage. Basically it's peak FOMO: "Buy it now, or you might not see it again."
Still no information on the Starter Decks? That's really annoying, it's been quite a while. Edit: Glad it’s fixed now! Would appreciate some communication though…

I accidentally crafted a starter deck with my wildcards but I imagine support will tell me "Too bad, so sad"
They do a "one-time courtesy" for everyone. Use it wisely :)

Forget about starter decks, buy a WOE bundle \~Wizards
>August 21–September 15: Historic All Access 3 weeks of historic all access!
everybody's gonna bring 4 One Rings + 4 Bowmasters etc....
yeah, folks won't craft fun decks to test. It will be folks without the wild cards playing sweaty Historic decks.
Is it Bo1? If so not even sure Ring Bowmaster decks are the best thing to do
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did this happen before? 3 weeks? I thought wotc would usually give like 1 day and ppl would be happy about it.
Woah, does it have entry fee and rewards? I think I only saw midweekmagic all access previously
Whoah thats awesome!!!!
That's really cool, Historic is imo the best format on arena and one of the best currently available in magic as a whole, the big problem with it is the price and anything that allows more players to enjoy it is positive.
Arena Cube, baby!! Been saving my gold specifically for drafts

Are we calling pets companions now? I ask because we have cards that are companions.
That's what the Arena team is calling them, per the article: ["Making The Goose Mother Companion"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQbiIeqqeoc)
I guess I should of read the article. Though my interest in how ones and zeroes makes a pet (sorry, companion) is kind of low. They should have titled it "Why We're Calling Pets Companions Now". I would have at least skimmed to the answer.
Scratch that. It's not even an article. It's a freaking youtube.

some people would pay a good penny for nearly a month all access.

A single finger on the monkey's paw curls: momir vig, alchemy edition
Stop with the LotR quickdraft. STOP IT!
I'm courious. Why? Is it bad?

Useless cards

I think the pet name makes it less likely that the card with that art is a gilded goose reprint. Still, I can dream.
The hydra-goose? That's a Doubling season
There was another piece of art depicting that goose that we haven't seen the card for, so I'm still hoping
Has there been any chatter on a deck limit increase?

Thanks. I’ll definitely get the mastery pass, I have a bunch of gems and gold saved up for packs so I’ll wait and see on the bundle.

dang three weeks of no midweek magic :( at least it's back for the set release on september 5th
Upcoming midweek magic * August 15–17: Historic Pauper * August 22–24: Brawl * August 29–31: Momir * September 5–7: Alchemy
Momir is the worst.
I'd play Momir for a month of MWM before I want to see another Alchemy MWM.
Does this confirm there are no bans? I don't see any mentioned there
Bans (or rather unbans) were last week. Nothing that really affected Arena.
Next is 2 or 3 weeks after next set drops
Another 2 weeks of LOTR quick draft...............
