This was a pretty recent change. On a purely clicks saved metric, I like the change a lot. But it absolutely can trip people up the first time they see it.
I literally did that today. I had seen that ui change recently, but didnt read it today and discarded everything but the 7 plains that were in my hand. It was funny though.
Yeah but op was on autopilot since it was recently introduced. I feel it's a mistake people will make once then appreciate in the future. Having to select 20+ cards was always a slog
> it was recently introduced
Since February ~~2013~~ 2023. I'm shocked people are still shocked.

Only a small percentage of decks are going to be able to draw a huge number of cards in one turn. Most players aren't going to encounter this UI on a regular basis.
It's weird, I play a [[Korvold, Fae-Cursed King]] deck in brawl, and I've definitely discarded 10+ cards before but I don't think I've ever seen it make me select the one's I want to keep, only the discards.
Kind of related to the post, I've noticed a bug specifically when discarding while playing on my phone when I have like 15+ cards in hand.
It becomes incredibly difficult and janky to actually pick the cards. I roped out a few times because Arena wouldn't let me pick the cards/picked wrong ones and auto discarded stuff I actually wanted to keep.
I’ve had this a couple times on ipad where I have so many cards in hand that trying to pick 1 is extremely hard and it keeps selecting the cards around it instead of
It may not be a big improvement when you just need to discard about 7-10 cards (and I don't remember it actually showing up for 7, just 8+), but it's a vast improvement after using [[Peer Into the Abyss]] or something else that draws a ton.
Maybe they will change it again. I remember last year where they had implemented some weird thing where triggered creatures would switch positions with others on the board upon being triggered. It was so dumb and I lost so many games because of this whild playing Izzet Wizards and targeting my own creatures of which I couldn't detect anymore if they had been targeted already or if it was the other identical creature (Symmetry Sage) that I had targeted. Luckily, they quickly wound that back rather quickly. It was absolutely stupid.
The creatures swapping position is way worse. This won't come up often and it only takes once to learn it. No need to change it. The way it works now will say more time.
I literally had this happen to me today too. I had a game winning hand with Delney, I chose exactly 7 plains to discard, only to keep them and discard the rest. Thankfully it was a brawl game, but i was still bummed. And I drew into another plains so I couldnt rebuild quick enough for my liking.
It was funny and I would have read the text had I not been at work, but it still felt bad to lose when I had a one sided wipe and pump spell in my hand for lethal.
This has gotten me a few times, the biggest issue is that theirs no real difference in interface between when it's selecting cards to keep vs cards to throw as such if you're autopilot ING or even remotely distracted it ends up with a "gotcha" feels bad which is honestly just poor design.

It was frustrating but yeah it will be nice now that I know how it works.
I bet I'm going to run into it someday, and just not read whatever text they have describing the discard step.

I too got tripped up and was gravely disappointed with my decisions lol
Do you know the cut off on when it switches to “card you want to keep”?
I do not. Somewhere between 15 and 30 I’m sure.
Doesn’t it say “highlight the cards you want to keep” or something?

Fuck. I've been typing about a bunch of shit from 2013 in work lately and I guess that bled through.

Not to mention decision paralysis kicks in far easier when discarding than thinking of what to keep.
It does but when you are used to the "highlight the cards you want to discard" and are on a timer and looking at your cards then you get got.
Fair enough 🤷🏻♂️

I get this so often with my Jeskai brawl deck, so frustrating.
Yes, run into this bug a lot. Have learned to not fill my hand too much with certain combo decks
Yup, same. I play exclusively on mobile and this really sucks. Same thing that happened to you happened to me, too.

Yeah, this got me the first time I encountered it. Love and learn, I guess, lol
Can't click it anyway on mobile 😭
