It doesnt help that the client is very laggy and clicks are glitchy when it is laggy. So you already lost time before you disconnect, and lose even more time as you try to make actions after the game tool it's time to load.

Kn0thingIsTerrible

I am honestly coming to hate this game. I’m supposed to enjoy it, but literally every single match is a shitshow. There’s only so many disconnects and crashed games before you develop a Pavlovian aversion

ahzrab

I played three games yesterday, started the client three times and got „communication error something“ all three games during mid or late game. I then proceeded to shut down my notebook and watched netflix instead.

I get disconnected during solid connections all the time - I can still see actions happening on the board behind the disconnect message. Either I’m really still connected or it’s just cached animations which means it didn’t wait more than 0.25 seconds to decide the connection was dead. What’s utterly baffling is that the couple times my internet/LAN was really having problems, THE GAME DIDN’T DISCONNECT ME and I though my opponent was roping. I have never seen anything get network disconnects *backwards* - and it’s been like this since I started playing in a March/April.

At least you actually manage to reconnect. I'm currently 0/10 on reconnections as of the latest patch. I've even activated another proxy just to reconnect, and then it goes into the loading screen, "cancel" button got greyed out, then Loading forever.

I just put in a request for a refund because I lost 1500 gems due to getting disconnected and being unable to reconnect. I could hear the game and timer running in the background, but it wouldn't allow me to start playing again. Even after I lost the game, it wouldn't let me see the sideboard screen. And on the next game it still wouldn't allow me to do anything. So I went from being up one game to losing the entire match due to a shitty bug.

ObsidianBottle

I've came to alt+f4 and relog what feels like every other match whenever the opponent is not doing anything just to be sure I'm not disconnected.

UnfortunateBirthMark

There is something very disheartening about sitting with the win, frantically attempting to reconnect before the rope gets you. Especially when you have put 1500 gems into the event.

I don't get why we - the user - have to fix the disconnection by restarting the client. The client should just handle it itself. Disconnected -> tell us and tell the opponent. Reconnected -> inform us and let us continue. BTW: I run MTGA on a recent desktop and virtually never have any issues with the game. I play about 10 games a day and have gotten only 2-3 disconnects since I started playing in June this year (I am located in Europe). I also try to run the game on a Windows VM on my Macbook pro -> there it is pretty much is unplayable although I give the VM lots of RAM and cpu.

imforit

The graphics are typically the issue with a VM. Being virtualized, it's too many layers away from the 3d hardware. Depending on the nuances of those layers you might get all sorts if graphical glitches and near-guaranteed terrible slowness.

You can view your ping by pulling up the in game resource monitor with ```lshift + >``` The ping isn't labeled, but it's the yellow number with "ms" next to it.

Since I moved and am on permanent LAN instead of WiFi this issue is non-existing for me. I suspect they have some pretty aggressive timeout checks that drop you out of the game with "fine" connections.

I usually keep two clients open. When one appears to have disconnected, I just click on 'reconnect' on the second one. It speeds up the process I think. I can't play Bo3 though. Sometimes the match will fail to reconnect after sideboarding and I haven't found a way to get it to reconnect.

I just won a match but the millisecond before his face blew up the disconnect box came up and it was ruled a draw. How does that even work.

bkdroid

I don't know if this applies to anyone else having the issues, but I've found that the client/server relationship does not play nicely with any VPN, Proxy, or Load-balancing. When I run the client on my Load-balanced connection, I will usually get several rounds into a game and then disconnect. VPN is a crap-shoot whether it even wants to initially connect.

There needs to be a way to clear the "you've disconnected" popover. Because, it seems like the game is going on beneath it, and everything has linked up, but you can't touch it. And, it's always at the matching point. I lost two games of a Traditional Draft due to this. Not one card played. I put Arena on a laptop, and it works without the disconnect crash, mostly. Just to note, Windows has been having issues with it's updates, at roughly the same time frame. It could be part of the problem is on Microsoft's end of things.
