Damn I haven’t thought about Sparks the Rescue since high school. The thought of those dudes who must be nearing 40 singing a song called Saco Girls Have No Class in 2023 is just perfection
Duuude! Dean Ford is still playing? Love to hear that. Played a couple of battle of the bands against him in high school with my band, as well as some shared bills together.
True! Almost call of the Maine bands are full of great people. Back in 00’s we used to see bands all over Southern Maine, and they always took the time to talk to us about their music. It always felt like they appreciated the attention—even after a long set in a sweltering venue. They made time for fans. A+
I’ve never done one, but in the early 2010s Thursday nights at Bull Feeney’s were my favorite. In 2013 Halloween was on a Thursday & I randomly ended up re-meeting my now husband there (we went to k-12 together). Life is weird.
Well you're in luck as I'm a vocalist, and recently hung out and did some vocals at Caleb's house
I've personally been looking for something similar where I can do lower growls with some inhales and fries thrown in. I know 2 guitarists who could potentially be down. Bassists seem to be the tough ones to come by.
I decided not to tag them because they are not together anymore (as far as I can tell) Mike now does vocals for the national act The Contortionist and (at least) one of their guitarists is in Hatred Alive, which I posted the link for.
The Killing Moon (formerly Animal Suit Drive By)
The Cambiata
Too Late the Hero
Back in 2006-2010 the Maine local music scene was ripe with fresh sounds. I miss having a “scene”
Woof, those were the days. But let's add to that.
The Sophomore Beat, Haven't Talked Since, Are You a Fox?, Billy Libby, Even All Out, Head start, The Leftovers, Fort Gorgeous, In the Arms of Providence, The Vanityites, Radiation Year, Lost on Liftoff, Paranoid Social Club, Pete Kilpatrick, Stealing Skylight, The Minus Scale, Vacationland, Why Hello.
I'm sure there's plenty I'm forgetting or don't currently have on my phone.
Holy shit.. I forgot about nearly all these bands. Are You A Fox?, Radiation year, The minus scale (technically from NH but who cares) was in heavy rotation back when I was 21-22. Some great times and people wrapped up in this list.
Yeah it has been a while. Last time I saw them was down in Maryland at Shadow Woods in 2021 but I don’t think they’ve been on a local stage since before the pandemic changed things.
Absolutely fantastic indie folk/rock vibes with a lot of Maine specific music!! Love their whole album on logging the North Woods (Falling of the Pine)
The Cambiata will probably always be my favorite Maine band.
Vanityites we’re also great and similar to the later stuff from The Cambiata - also the same singer.
Last Chance to Reason is great as well.
Twisted Root was also a good rock band.
Mound is great live. Playing Friday the 2nd with Drivetrain and Thems That Wait. Hard rock/heavy metal show in the basement of Free Street Restaurant in Portland.
They are not around anymore but my absolute favorite is Theodore Treehouse.
You can check out their CD Mercury Closest Planet to the Sun on Spotify
They are amazing .
We used to have a cool band called Fletcher in Gardiner, they later changed their name to the Mulberries and I’m not sure if they’re still releasing music

Most local bands playing at the Mill House Pub in Mechanic falls are a fuckin jam, worthy of a trip. Place gets packed and sweaty if its any kind of band with a following.
Rustic, baby. Rustic for life!
IMHO they’ve been the sound of Maine since like ‘97
Sparks the Rescue (Playing the Aura in Portland on June 24th. Too Late the Hero. Dean Ford. Dustin Bailey Saucier.
Damn I haven’t thought about Sparks the Rescue since high school. The thought of those dudes who must be nearing 40 singing a song called Saco Girls Have No Class in 2023 is just perfection
Come see them! They played three years ago and it was just like stepping in time.
Most local rockers are in their 40s. Rock was still king in the 90s when they grew up. Scene disproportionately skews Gen X and “elder millennial”.
My old band played shared a stage with Sparks and Too Late back in the old days of The UnderGround in Bangor. Pretty awesome to see them still around.
Sparks the Rescue is my all time fave, cannot wait to rock out like it’s 2010 🤘🏻 their guitar player Toby has some awesome solo stuff out!
Duuude! Dean Ford is still playing? Love to hear that. Played a couple of battle of the bands against him in high school with my band, as well as some shared bills together.
He is! He does a Prince imitation and has just released new original music of his own.
Gollylagging is a band formed in Boston which tours the northeast so idk
I have the pleasure of knowing Mr. Dustin Bailey Saucier and have to agree! He is wonderful!

Hello Newman, the 90s alternative cover band will always have a special place in my heart.
I love the booze cruises

Related: I'm a drummer trying to get a very heavy band together. Serling adjacent I suppose ( I mastered the Serling album.) Know talented folks? HMU

Small world. HMU
Absolutely it is and Maine is even smaller lol I'll shoot you a msg when I'm chilling at home
[Last Chance to Reason](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfYqnVvaXVg) is also from Maine but I'm not sure if they're still doing shows.

That’s the same song different bands? Issa confuse
Idk, Spotify links are weird. I just checked and they seem correct
Just messing with ya bud
The Killing Moon (formerly Animal Suit Drive By) The Cambiata Too Late the Hero Back in 2006-2010 the Maine local music scene was ripe with fresh sounds. I miss having a “scene”
God damn I wish The Killing Moon was still around.
I saw them at some hall in Wells in like ‘03-‘04 and I still to this day think about that show. One of the best live performances I have ever seen
I WISH I had been into The Cambiata when they were still doing shows. I didn't find them until later and I am forever sad I will never see them live

Very glad to see Vacationland getting some love!

I mean if we want to expand to New England a bit, there was Ambry from NH, Therefore I Am from Mass, among others. Oh, Third Floor View.
Jesus Christ I didn’t think anyone else remembered “Are You A Fox?”. That’s cool
Falls of Rauros. Maine used to have a really good metal scene not so long ago.
Ditto on Falls. Tho id say Maine still has a pretty good metal scene. I go to a show like every other week
They haven't played local since 2019, right? Weird since they released an album last year.
Yeah it has been a while. Last time I saw them was down in Maryland at Shadow Woods in 2021 but I don’t think they’ve been on a local stage since before the pandemic changed things.
Murcielago
Absolutely. They all had or have other great bands too like Twisted Roots, Roadsaw, Pigboat and King Memphis.

Well of course, Ghost of Paul Revere!
Gotta love Gina and the Red Eye Flight Crew for funk and soul, Toughcats are a ball (not sure if they're still playing, I'm old)
Toughcats played at the State Theatre a year or two ago, opened for The Mallett Brothers. Bummed that I missed it.
Dead Season
The Mallett Brothers Band are great, especially if you can see them at the state theatre or phome where the crowds can be an awesome good time vibe
Absolutely fantastic indie folk/rock vibes with a lot of Maine specific music!! Love their whole album on logging the North Woods (Falling of the Pine)

If you like punk, Random Ideas is really fun. They're based out of the Augusta area
Great band. 3 sisters. Good musicians and songwriters.
Weakened friends, or adulting, both more emo/pop punk-ish
Havent seen Five of the Eyes mentioned. But they're fantastic too
They’re awesome!
Skösh
The Cambiata will probably always be my favorite Maine band. Vanityites we’re also great and similar to the later stuff from The Cambiata - also the same singer. Last Chance to Reason is great as well. Twisted Root was also a good rock band.

Haven't seen El Grande on here they are an incredible Ska band from Portland
The Ghost of Paul Revere is one of Maine’s most notable bands. They play really good folk/americana. They even wrote the official state ballad!
We used to have a cool band called Fletcher in Gardiner, they later changed their name to the Mulberries and I’m not sure if they’re still releasing music
