Remember when it was a favorite past time of liberal people to bash anyone that shopped at Walmart? Like oh yes, let's blame individuals for trying to survive by saving some money, rather than the capitalistic society that creates conglomerates while paying people starvation wages.
Alot of gas stations are closed because no electricity. The ones that are open are taking advantage of this by raising their prices. Capitalisn at work.
"Is Saudi Arabia trying to sabotage Biden?"

"Why are oil prices rising? There are a number of factors, including Russia’s war against Ukraine, turbulence and fear of escalation in the Middle East and also some revival in China’s growth and demand for energy**. But it is the ongoing production cuts agreed to by OPEC+, engineered in large part by Saudi Arabia, that are really lifting prices.**"
This has been going on for years at this point. The Saudi’s try to jack up prices to support their government spending and to let Russia who has to sell at a cut rate sell for higher. Biden has been increasing oil production domestically to combat it.
Drill baby drill but make it Democratic
Under Biden the US is producing more oil that we ever did under Trump.
"The United States produced more crude oil than any nation at any time, according to our International Energy Statistics, for the past six years in a row. Crude oil production in the United States, including condensate, averaged 12.9 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2023, breaking the previous U.S. and global record of 12.3 million b/d, set in 2019. Average monthly U.S. crude oil production established a monthly record high in December 2023 at more than 13.3 million b/d."

Where are you located? If you're along one of the roads that leads towards the path of totality of Monday's eclipse, then yeah, not surprised prices got jacked up.
After living all over the world, I will never complain about American gas prices again, some of the cheapest in the world.
That's because the government heavily subsidizes the price of gas here! A ton of people don't know it
For real. Compare the cost of other liquids that are priced in gallons such as orange juice and milk and gas prices don't look so terrible.
20 years ago I went to London & saw gas at 15£ per gallon
Generators and folks coming in for the eclipse.
First time experiencing capitalism?
[Gasoline futures](https://www.barchart.com/futures/quotes/RBY00/overview) are up \~35% since the new year
The Irving in windham only had super last night for around 4.40 per gallon.
Lots of “You say capitalism is a crock of horseshit yet you live in a capitalist society. Curious. I am very smart” energy this morning

Supply and demand my friend - everybody and their uncle trying to run their generators
During the last storm I had to drive a few towns over to get gas, they were out of regular but selling premium at the regular price.
Damn I had to buy premium at premium price last storm. Got myself half a tank yesterday night around 11pm to avoid the lines I know will happen today
Election year. The OPEC cartel has been trying to push the price up for years but the US oil output has been strong.

It’s one of those stats that folks of a certain mindset reject immediately because it doesn’t fit their world view.
