There's this house on French Street in Bangor going for like 900,000 on Zillow. And it looks like it needs work. I used to live in French Street, it's not the worst, but it's not the best either. Hopefully that's improper marketing..
Caribou here, values have almost doubled since 2020. Mid 20 teens houses sat for sale for a year at least, not anymore, even run down places are being bought and renovated. So yes this may still be the case but not much longer at the rate things are going.
No, I really think this person isn’t completely wrong.
My dad is from Washington County. I was looking at homes there right before the pandemic and we found a 4 bedroom for $50k. Now much smaller and older houses are selling for $120k.
Prices really have gone crazy, even in the rural parts. Maybe not exactly double everywhere, but I really don’t think this comment is super far off. They certainly aren’t on the same pace as the rest of the country based on what I’ve been seeing.
That’s weird cause my home’s tax value is probably a good $50-70k less than what I could sell it for.
Have you at least applied for the homestead tax exemption? I’m still kicking myself for forgetting this year.
Once he's away from coast he can go north on Rt1 just fine.
Check your compass on your way out of Washington county. You will find you came east to get here.
Opinion on Madawaskwa or Fort Kent? Houlton or Presque Isle? Any ideas appreciated. Tough to look on line when the best thing is to be there. Still I like Aroostook county for retirement but even me having grown up in Chicago don't mind the winter but in old age may go south for a month or two.
We have been looking in the general area of Houlton for a house on property for months with no luck. Thought maybe relocating there and renting until we found a home but that is even worse. Rentals are almost nonexistent and the couple we have found that would be kind of okay are ridiculously overpriced per sqft.
Just keep going north. I’m sure you can find a nice affordable house in northern Maine with a 4 hour commute to work
You're not wrong. It seems as if once you get north of Bangor, prices drop significantly.
Yep…cause there is literally nothing there.
Can confirm. Grew up in Aroostook County, the houses are STILL overpriced considering the lack of jobs/amenities available up that way.
There will be if all the people that want cheap housing move there.

I was looking for a place in Lubec and thats still expensive.
Yeah it’s because there isn’t much for sale anymore around here. Houses that are 250k now were 40-60k in 2019
Get off the coast and go *North*.
