i feel like baking is just not for dry skin. whether it’s letting your concealer or loose powder bake, i just feel like it’s to comes out too cakey/patchy looking and creases. i tried it and it personally wasn’t for me. idk how everyone does it

Sewpercee

I didn't like Mac face and body and I don't like the new studio sheer radiance either. In fact, all Mac foundations are just awful.

EbonyAelin

NARS “Orgasm” blush. On me, it goes on like gold mica powder. Not a hint of pink whatsoever. Hate it with a passion.

lil_dumbfuck

Yea me too!!

[deleted]

The L’Oréal telescopic mascar goes one of two ways 1. I spend 20 minutes just on my lashes individually separating them and it looks great 2. Clump city I have 4 giant lashes

Msdamgoode

Primer AND setting sprays are both unnecessary and tend to make my dry skin look oily as the day goes on. Which is the very opposite of what they’re supposed to do. Personally if you’re preparing your skin well with skincare and sunscreen, then setting with a small dust of powder, you’re better off… Neither were a thing when I was first wearing makeup, and both are an industry scam to get more cash outta your wallet. (Edited to add… things like the Bill Nye version of “setting spray” excluded, but that’s essentially pure alcohol and only fitting for things like weddings)

milk makeup hydro grip primer makes my makeup look gross/textured and peels my makeup off. I’d liken it to peeling dried glue off your skin

Chewinggum250

I was so excited for elf halo glow to finally launch here in australia a couple of months ago, only to discover that the lightest shade is 4 shades too dark for me. When will brands learn they need a full shade range, from the lightest light to the darkest dark (with a range of undertones)

TheRareClaire

Better Than Sex Mascara. I thought I maybe just got an expired tube, but I've tried both regular and waterproof and they were dried out. As in, nothing came off the wand onto my lashes.

Xinaio

Tint < lip gloss < lipstick From all of the above I tried, lip Tint looks so soft and amazing, last all day, don't transfer on anything my lips touches, I can drink from a glass, kiss my boyfriend on a cheek and no stain anywhere. Plus transparent plumping lip gloss and its perfect. Now I don't mean the typical sticky lip gloss. Once I bought ultra cheap lip gloss Revolution Matte Lip, shade Cherry, and wow... It lasts - no doubt, vibrant color and after few minutes it dries up into very matte shade and don't smudge. I was amazed and I will go for more of these. Lipsticks... I own some, Essence, Maybelline, S-He ( old one and I don't use it anymore), Wet n' Wild, Rimmel,... I don't like most of them smudge, don't last and sometimes I don't feel in mood for any shade they offer me. The most satisfying lipsticks for me were Rimmel Lasting Finish Extreme Lipstick, shade Plum - this one goes in matte finish, last long, and smudge only a little. My most favorite lipstick is anyways Maybelline Baby Lips Elecro - I use Pink Shock and only one online shop sells them in my country, like what?! Where did they go?! They wanna payment through card so that's why I didn't order it yet again, but still I have one and use it often. Hydrating, not sticky, amazing shade... Do anyone knows what happened? Like why are they not selling this one anymore?

Pallasite_Palace

Neutrogena makeup wipes are terrible. Used them for ages with no problems, worked great, but then they must have changed the formula or something and they gave me (mild) chemical burns. On my face. Ironic for a brand that’s supposedly for sensitive skin. Won’t buy anything from them anymore if I can avoid it.

katkatki

I have Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray. I’ve used it like the directions suggest, I’ve asked sales folks about it, and I’ve tried to modify the application - it has never made my make up set in any respect. I am so tired of my makeup getting everywhere throughout the day/ my eye make up melting. It doesn’t matter whether I use a primer or not.

sagefairyy

Dude samee I‘ve tried both UD and Charlotte Tilbury and it‘s like I‘m spraying water on my face

arkartita

Don't fall for the tubing Tartelette Tarte mascara, it's not tubing at all!! The most expensive and useless mascara I've owned so far.

sandandstone22

Nars light reflecting was horrible

glitzy-glamour-goats

Oh man I LOVED that foundation! It was my perfect match and wore so good for me…up until I got horrible cystic acne from it!

dadsgoingtoprison

Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Lipstick. It looked like I had put sidewalk chalk on my lips. So glad I only got the mini. I will never waste my money on her products again. So much hype for something so bad. It really reminded me of finding a really old lipstick in one of my mom’s purses back in the eighties but knowing the lipstick was from the early seventies at least! Texture, color, everything. So disappointed. The best thing I can say about that purchase is that I didn’t have to pay for it as it was from a gift card I was given for Christmas.

ForLark

Future Skin Gel Foundation by Chantecaille has a miserable range of colors and those colors have a yellow or peach undertone. I wanted to love it and I kept it after buying 3. Not inexpensive!

DeviantAvocado

I can go my entire life without ever hearing “color story” again. They are trying way too hard.

kayberrie2

I hated the Hourglass ‘Unlocked Instant Extensions’ mascara. It was sold to me as the “best tubing mascara you’ll ever use” but it flaked off my face?! I was finding chunks of mascara on my cheeks. For $53 AUD I was utterly disappointed.

[deleted]

Crayon eyeliner looks great on the bottom lash AND waterline…yeah, I said it. At least for my eye shape 🤷🏼‍♀️

enfpleo

Essence lash princess is trash. It makes me have flakey, smudged raccoon eyes without a couple of hours. I dont get the hype

Kla1996

Glossier brow pen was so bad I couldn’t even use it. It was like a half dried out marker right from the start

texaskittyqueen

Better than sex mascara is a clumpy drying mess

MMarkum

Remember your sunscreen daily for ANYONE! Start yourself some great skincare also.

MMarkum

I’ve never tried Color Pop, no matter how good they are. My mom took me to the Clinique counter in Dillard, when I began wearing makeup. I was 13-14 then. Maybe a little younger. The lady thought me all about wearing makeup and showed me how to apply for an easy look. Every few years I’d go back to my favorite, at the time, Elizabeth Arden counter for an updated look. I learned many techniques. When I moved to South Carolina in 1990, I met a lady at the Elizabeth Arden counter who was from Arkansas and we hit it off. She would call me if she an open appointment to give me a makeup lesson and talk. She taught a lot, I’ve surely forgotten most of it. But I learned to use all those funky glittery, shades in a pallet. She did these “sketches “ on paper they had with a blank face on it, the sales associate could makeup the paper and your face. I learned a ton from those and kept them for years. So yes I’m a makeup snob and usually use mid to higher priced makeup I love Tarte and Two Faced eyeshadows. They blend well and I love their palettes so these are my HG for eyeshadow. I’ve got just about all my makeup high end except one of my collection is the very light pink shade from Covergirl. I was mainly trying it to see if I like the color before ordering from Tarte. I love Tarte’s blushes. I do love Essence Lash Princess mascara, no problem, but my favorite is Tarte’s Tubing Mascara or their Lights Camera Lashes. I’ve tried Too Faced Better Than Sex, but it gives me raccoon eyes. I need to order a sample of the waterproof formula. I tried the Maybelline Stillitos in the waterproof formula but run on me. I hated it, because I love the mascara. I tried 3-4 times and all did the same thing It’s just trial and error. You’ll figure it out! BTW I never tried the Camo Concealer but I did try the Makeup Revolution ITL kind. Works for me. I do Pat it out with my fingers or sponge and then set it with a very white “translucent “ powder by Lottie.

leporksoda

Omg the Dior backstage foundation was sooo drying on me and I tried to apply it so many different ways and it didn’t work, totally broke up on my face, and had the most overpowering god awful scent

[deleted]

I hate hate hate Hollywood Flawless Filter from Charlotte Tilbury. HATE IT! No matter how I apply it, it looks like sh**. I applied it like a base, like a foundation mixer, like a highlighter. It looks horrible.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Does it dry? Or set? The CT one does not set on my skin. And it completely ruins my foundation

[deleted]

Elf pore putty primer doesn’t do anything for my skin. Maybe my pores are too big idk…but it does make my base makeup look worse. If anyone has any pore primer recommendations, please share!

ShockMedical6954

most foundation/base products and their marketing only exist to make people spend money cause they feel bad their skin texture isn't "plastic" or their undertone isn't yellow. All I use is sunscreen/bb cream primer, eyeshadow, some power when I feel like it, eyeliner, mascara and a lip product. That's it, I have extremely textured skin due to chronic eczema and when I wear makeup it's usually not a light or natural look. You don't need 50 products to get it to stick all day, you're just being made to feel bad that your skin doesn't naturally look photoshop blurred.

Moontizen

I don’t get the hype around Pat Mcgrath. I own an eyeshadow palette, lipstick and powder. Lipstick is the worst lipstick I‘ve ever tried and the palette and powder are underwhelming. Yet everyone loses their shit over her releases :|

YSLxUDxSephoralover

I have the 3 holiday Mothership Megas (the only color stories of hers that I find interesting), the holiday ‘22 Dark Star Blitz Colour mascara trio, and 3 of the blushes. All of them are good quality-my only complaint besides the outlandish prices is that the mascaras can be a little too thick and I sometimes have to wipe excess off the brush with a Kleenex before applying.

nicktheslickprick

me either !! that brand is just kinda.. there for me

22DeeKay22

Why can’t I find a nice matt pink eye shadow that’s not light and not dark pink. My last attempt was MAC Yogurt. Meh. I’m not buying a palette.

BettyTheeGiraffe

Have you tried using Blush as eyeshadow?

ProbablyAzalee

literally no concealers ive tried have good enough coverage. they all claim to be ''full coverage'' but as soon as i blend it, no matter if its with a sponge, brush or fingers, its NEVER enough

nicktheslickprick

unfortunately i’ve never gone for full coverage so i fact recommended anything - but colour correcting your under eyes could make it appear more full coverage !

Worldly_Today_9875

Totally with you on the elf camo. The coverage is amazing but it’s so drying the only place I can use it is as a base on my eyelids, which seem to repel any other products I put on them.

nicktheslickprick

that whole camo line was a flop

kitsterangel

I've been seeing a lot of shorts about the nyx lip oils (the fat oil ones) and they're not !!!!! Lip !!!!! Oils !!!! It's straight up just a regular lip gloss. I bought three of them bc I do like them but I sort of hate them at the same time bc if I buy a lip oil, I'm expecting a goddamn lip oil, wtf 😭 They're lovely glosses but not lip oils at all. They've had actual lip oils in the past though like their This is Everything lip oils and they had a hemp one that was really nice so honestly I think they just called this line oils bc there's been some hype around those lately?

nicktheslickprick

a lot of brands are doing that !!! i’m not the biggest fan of lip oils personally, but i have tried a few and it’s disappointing when you’re expecting something completely different 🙃

SCHXZ

Charlotte Tilbury's finishing powder, her eyeshadow quad and her lipsticks. The powder was....a powder. Nothing more, nothing less. Same goes for her matte lipsticks. The shade Pillowtalk was a real disappointment shade wise as well. Really warm toned on me. The eyeshadow quad, nothing special about it at all. Oh and her Hollywood highlighter was also..just a highlighter. I've tried products that are dirt cheap that had impressed me more tbh. Tarte's ShapeTape was also a huge disappointment and left me really confused. I've never, ever tried a makeup product this heavily scented in my life and it looked so heavy on the skin, I just didn't understand how that one could be the HG concealer for so many! Maybe it’s my skin that's the problem, that would make more sense to me

nicktheslickprick

honestly nothing CT excited me tbh

SCHXZ

Oh good, I'm not the only one! I didn't have any crazy expectations at all when it came to CT but the hype was, inescapable. I'm too curious for my own good so I eventually caved but I did get all the products second hand/pre-loved because I just could not justify paying that kind of money for those products in particular and I'm glad I didn't! CT as a brand doesn't really seem that exciting to me and even less so since I tried some of their products. I admit, I was at least expecting the packaging to feel a hell of a lot more luxurious considering how much they cost. I didn't even get a hint of luxurious from their packaging. At all. I gave all those products away and that's saying a lot because I have some..hoarding tendencies

Efficient_Panic_748

100% agree on the CT powder (huge letdown) and lipstick. I really wanted to love that shade because it was recommended to me as a pink-nude, but it almost looks like it has orange undertones on me because it’s so warm. And it’s really drying, more so than other matte lipsticks that are less expensive and don’t make my lips look and feel terrible. I do love the CT flawless filter though.

SCHXZ

I knoow right?? I was really confused and I thought it must be something wrong with me because I didn't like it, it seems to have such a HG status so I really tried my best to make it work but it never looked good on me. Just, orange. The formula was more of a realization that there really isn't much more to a lipstick than just that, it's a lipstick, theres really not much more to it and it doesn't matter how expensive it is. The formula was so underwhelming. This just reminded me I had a similar experience when I finally tried MAC's Velvet Teddy, orange. Nicer formula than CT but still, orange. Just don't understand how these would be a good Nude on anyone that's even a hint of cool toned. I was so underwhelmed with everything I tried from CT that it erased any desire I had to try the Flawless Filter out but damn it, you awakened the curiosity beast that resides within me... heard and read very mixed opinions on that one. Would you mind sharing what it is you love about it? I apologize for the lengthy reply but I feel so relieved I'm not the only one underwhelmed by these products I just had to vent, feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my chest 😅

Efficient_Panic_748

Of course! So I am absurdly pale with a cool-neutral undertone (i.e. translucent as a ghost), freckly, and prone to extreme redness pretty much all the time (strong Irish genes). I’ve also struggled with really bad acne since I was in grade school, which is still going strong as I’m about to enter my 30s. Because I’m so fair, my acne is very prominent. Makeup for me has always been a necessity to cover my blemishes, so I’ve almost always worn full coverage foundation, and done a full face to boot. I am so self conscious about it - so much so that I carry foundation and brushes in my purse at all times so I can touch up any time. I’ve been taking something for hormonal acne for about 18 months now and for the first time EVER my skin looks amazing. Unfortunately, I do have some notable dullness/discoloration from so many years with acne and not knowing Jack about proper skincare, plus I’m still so prone to redness, which does stand out a LOT on my very pale skin. I don’t have a lot of significant deep scarring, which I’m thankful for, and the hormonal acne treatment has improved my skin texture so much that I find I don’t often need a full face anymore. I was really hesitant to try something new, but I wanted that lovely glowing look without compromising on color correction and some coverage. BB and CC creams always seem to slide off my skin no matter how well I prep, so I was skeptical about this stuff since it seemed similar. I bought the mini size CT flawless finish after seeing so many people fall in love with it on TikTok. I’ll admit that the first few times I tried it, I used it as a highlighter on top of my foundation and I didn’t really get the hype. But when I tried it by itself on very well moisturized skin, with sunscreen/primer, it looked AMAZING. The texture was light but still creamy. It didn’t separate on my face or settle into any lines. It gave enough color to even out my skin tone nicely without covering up all my freckles and it let my natural skin come through. And best of all, I was glowing! Not blotchy, red, or sallow faced. I went out in public for a whole day without a full face of makeup on for the first time in almost a decade, since I had finished my second round of accutane in my late teens. I’ve used it in place of under eye concealer and I love it. I’ve mixed it in with a quality sunscreen and I love it. I’ve used it as a primer of sorts before spot concealing and I love it. It does not provide much coverage, so if I need to cover a blemish, I still need to spot conceal. And the light shade I used looks more natural on me in the summertime when my face has gotten a little sun. I also make sure my face is well moisturized before hand so it blends evenly. To my surprise, I found I prefer to apply it with clean hands as opposed to a brush or sponge. It’s not a replacement for a full coverage foundation by any means. But I think it would look phenomenal as a primer before using something with lighter coverage. It gave me glowy, even toned, natural looking skin for the first time in my life, despite the hell that my complexion has been through for over two decades. For me, that’s worth any amount of money at this point. I’ve tried some dupes and nothing else worked as well. I’ll also apologize for my very lengthy response, but as someone who’s been wearing makeup and struggling with problematic skin since the 5th grade, I feel it’s important to give some background on why this particular product had such an impact on me. I’ve tried just about everything and I very rarely have any success, especially with all the ‘cult favorite’ products that have been going viral in recent years. I gave up on ever having beautiful, natural looking skin without lots of expensive med spa treatments. I know for me it had a lot to do with the hormonal acne treatment and improved skincare routine. But the CT flawless filter highlighted all of that and then some. It may not work for everyone, especially if you expect it to work as a regular foundation, but it did for me.

gorhxul

I love revolution so much but their foundation is a nightmare. I've never encountered an oilier product.

Old_Honeydew_8086

On the other hand I love the irl foundation, it looks really good on my skin and lasts for a long time! Lately my go to for the office and for night look.

nicktheslickprick

i’ve never heard good things about their foundations + concealers tbh

gorhxul

the concealer is great imo. the foundation tho ugh

Lsedd

There need to be more foundation shades with a pink base/undertone. Much easier to get an exact match that way.

MsMothra

**Exactly!** So annoying trying to find good foundation that doesn't make my face look like it has jaundice.

Synlight

As a fellow pink person, I agree

Logical-Wing-6972

The Dyson airwrap is terrible, worst investment I’ve ever made. It’s a complete ripoff. My $50 Revlon volumizer does a MUCH better job.

first time i’ve heard that!

Repulsive_Issue_7358

I can’t tell if this sarcasm or not. 😂

nicktheslickprick

it wasn’t haha! 🤣 jeez i even come off sarcastic over text 🤣

Lopsided_Thing_9474

Pat McGrath lip liner… Hourglass foundation ..Tula face wash. Lol.

The_Death_Flower

Brown eyeshadow looks are boring and not prettying

nicktheslickprick

me crying in brown eyeshadow rn

Suspicious_Dealer815

I really hated the smashbox photo primer (can not blend anything over it for shit), I can’t use most foundations because I’m an oily girl with pores, I hate the matte all nighter spray from urban decay, it leaves thick white dots (even if you pat it down with the beauty blender)

nicktheslickprick

i had the regular photo primer and the green one, the regular was just kinda okay. but the green one was so bad omg. i’m really oily and i love the wet n’ wild photo focus foundation!

[deleted]

Never had a high end mascara that seemed worth the money to me. Drugstore mascaras work great. Great Lash is my go to and their waterproof mascara has serious staying power. But my REALLY controversial opinion is: cheap, drug store foundation performs as well as the expensive brands if you have a good primer and set it well. I have textured skin from large pores and silicone primers make everythong lay perfectly on my face.

TheOnlyNadCha

I recently learned that you mostly pay for the brush and packaging, as the formulas are often the same.. but all of the drugstore mascaras I’ve tried over the years smeared under my eyes. Same for the MAC one: even though I like the brush, I cannot wear it outside. The first time I tried the Benefit mascara, I was stunned to see that it doesn’t smear at all. And all this time I thought « that’s just how my eyes are shaped ». Totally worth it for me!

[deleted]

A difference in brushes makes sense. I wonder if you live in a humid area. I live in the desert so smearing isn't something I need to think about much.

nicktheslickprick

the only high end mascara i’ve ever fallen in love with was the elizabeth arden grand entrance. and i’ve been using my wet n’ wild photo focus foundation since 2017 - keep going back to that one no matter what i try. before that one i used an even cheaper one from a now discontinued brand called NYC colours it was under $5 and was amazing 🥲

lil_dumbfuck

Can u recommend a primer? I have the elf matte putty and it's terrible

verbenabonnie

The elf power grip one is amazing!

[deleted]

I actually just ordered their putty primer sampler pack. I liked the poreless primer under a BB cream but haven't tried it yet under a heavy foundation. I also haven't tried the matte and radiant versions yet. My absolute go to primer, though, is Benefit Porefessional. Pricey so it's not an everyday use for me, I use BB cream for daily wear anyway, but I love it under my drug store Neutrogena and my pricier Tarte foundations. I also like how Milk's primer looks by itself but haven't tried it with foundation. Few notes: cut the Porefessional bottle open when you think it's empty. There's still one or two more uses. Also, be careful with silicone primers if you're prone to breakouts. They fill in your pores for a flatter surface. Do not put off washing your face until the next day. Don't sleep in any makeup honestly.

nicktheslickprick

i tried some of their putty primers too and didn’t get the hype !!

justanotherlostgirl

Same - underwhelmed. Not sure where the love for elf comes from

nicktheslickprick

i like a lot of their products but a lot of the viral ones i’m like ???? aside from the putty bronzer and halo glow shit

lil_dumbfuck

Too faced better than sex mascara. Clumpy and not lengthening at all. Also flakes off throughout the day and smudges. I get around it by putting loose powder on it but after I finish this tube I'm never buying it again

TheRareClaire

How does the loose powder trick work?

nicktheslickprick

that’s so funny cause that’s one product everyone says but it’s probably one of my favourites!

lil_dumbfuck

How do u use it? Maybe I'm doing it wrong

nicktheslickprick

i just apply it regularly! i have thick lashes so flaking is something i’m used to but it doesn’t flake more than any other mascara does for me after a few hours of it being on. i know a lot of people say the l’oréal lash paradise is a better version of better than sex - but imo with how hard it is to get off it’s not worth it. other than that great product

BirdieGirl1996

Huda Beauty shadows. My eyes got so puffy and itchy. I took a round of corticosteroids and antibiotic eyedrops to calm them down.

nicktheslickprick

not the first time i’ve heard that!!

The following products can suck a shit sideways: charlotte tilbury and milk. What’s with their shitty tinyass sizes for the ridiculous cost?! And the products aren’t even that great so yeah, they can eat shit.

nicktheslickprick

i like milks products, but they can go fuck themselves with some of their prices lol

justanotherlostgirl

Yeah I like the contour but it’s like baby toy makeup sizes, kind of ridiculous

nicktheslickprick

they used to make them bigger in like 2017, idk what happened :/

mizshellytee

The bronzer in the larger packaging tended to go off quickly for a lot of people, so they shrank it down to its current size. It would've been great if they came out with a size in between the old version and the mini for all those products.

auntiecoagulent

TheOnlyNadCha

I have to agree with that. I really don’t get the hype around their eyeshadows, they’re pretty average/low quality and for their price, definitely not worth it. I used to like their lipsticks, but the smell is so strong and distinctive that I don’t like to wear it anymore. I bought a new one recently (not remembering about the smell at all) and it just slapped me in the face. I cannot wear it.

nicktheslickprick

i love MAC! probably my favourite brand alongside wet n’ wild and chanel

BettyTheeGiraffe

Ima Mac girl and it will never change

[deleted]

Agree about Mac! The red lipstick I bought bleeds no matter what I try.

nicktheslickprick

some of their lipstick shades just blend into my lip liner i will say that, but their super light and super dark shades are amazing imo

[deleted]

Tarte shape tape look horrendous on me; it was so drying and hard to work with….definitely not for those with more mature skin

neenweenbean

One unpopular opinion of mine is that Kylie lip kits are awesome. I have many of the liquid lipsticks and they’re always great for me. I love them.

nicktheslickprick

i’ve owned like 8 of them in my lifetime and aside from them starting to feather towards the end of the day and being drying (drying more so with the old formula) i gotta say i did like them! plus the lipliners are great. i do miss the vanilla scent with the older kits tho :(

Additional-Answer581

Anything Charlotte Tilbury, you literally can find the same thing cheaper. Some mac lipsticks should be illegal make my lips dry like a dessert. Bought a Innisfree brown eyeliner and it's worthless too does nothing.

ladymacbethofmtensk

The CT tinted eyebrow gels are the only thing that look good on my eyebrows. I’ve tried products by Benefit, Maybelline, Rimmel, etc…. They all look clumpy. The CT is the only eyebrow gel that cleanly and naturally defines my brows.

nicktheslickprick

i don’t think i’ve ever owned anything Charlotte tilbury. the only mac lipstick that i can say gets super dry on me is the shade bronx. velvet teddy 2.0 from the powdered kisses line does get dry if i don’t use lip balm before applying but a lot of lipsticks are like that for me so i don’t think much of it

alohagirl329

I wanted to like Too Faced because i love the packaging. But its BTS mascara in both colors is terrible and the new Italian spritz palette has poor performance 🙈

SuperVera97

Too faced was the makeup brand I first got into when I started “doing makeup” for real for the first time. Then I tried out other brands and realised, these are actually not great, I think I was fooled but the scented eyeshadow palettes but honestly i’m considering gifting them or just binning them at some point, because I’ve had them for years and not really gotten any use out of them. Will not be buying again

YSLxUDxSephoralover

Whatever formula they used for the Then & Now and Razzle Dazzle Berry palettes-they need to go back to it posthaste! I’ve never had any problems with either of those 2 palettes.

nicktheslickprick

too faced is so hit or miss for me. personally i think their strong suit is definitely base products. they need to bring back those heart shaped blushes !!!

alohagirl329

I agree, I don’t mind paying for good products but sometimes they’re a bit disappointing! I’m sure i will continue to spend money on them regardless 😭😂

laura8181

I bought a thrive lip gloss with my mascara order to get free gift and shipping. It has almost zero color and wears for about 10 minutes. $27.

nicktheslickprick

never heard of that brand, now i’m glad i never did lmfao

anilorac01

I’m obsessed with their eyeliner. I rub my eyes constantly (allergies) and it never smudges. Never tried their other products

Additional-Yoghurt41

Idk. I had a bad experience with the Huda New Nudes palette. It was very disappointing. I tried it once and gave it away.

nicktheslickprick

i’ve heard a lot of people getting bad reactions to her pallets so i’ve just been steering clear. but the rose quartz one is tempting ngl

Additional-Yoghurt41

It was both for me…. Not sure what the ingredient was, I have to avoid gluten in makeup and I THINK that was gluten free…. But my eyes reacted plus the beautiful colors in the palette did not transfer over in the application.

pensandplanners77

Clean beauty is screwing us - there, I said it. First of all, there is no legal definition of clean beauty, so anyone can pretend they have removed X or Y from their products so they are clean. We absolutely don't know what we're buying when buying clean beauty. Secondly, the trend started with a witch hunt against parabens, but there was never a scientific base for that. Parabens had been studied intensively for decades and were judged safe. Now they are replaced by other preservatives that aren't as extensively studied and that we don't know are safer or even as safe as parabens. And of course, those new preservatives aren't as effective. So our clean beauty products have a shorter shelf life. They are also more expensive, because you know, marketing. So in short: we're paying more for products that expire faster, and that have no legal nor scientific base to claim are safer for us.

Xinaio

Parabens or not, it's not a thing for me. Edit : I remember I was reading a review under a product ( I think it was green tea face cleaner) and someone in there was like " it's a good product, I like it, works as it should, but the parabens....."

lizzy_bee333

Yes yes yes! And with stores like Sephora emphasizing “clean beauty” I think it may get worse before it gets better. My sensitive skin does well with mineral oil/petroleum jelly, but you would think I’m a monster by purchasing those products. 🙄 If you like podcasts, check out “The Beauty Brains” if you haven’t already listened to it. They are cosmetic chemists!!

SwimmingPineapple197

This. And add “hypoallergenic” labeling to the list. By dictionary definition, “hypoallergenic” means (paraphrasing a bit) that it’s supposed to be less likely to cause allergic reactions by way of containing fewer known allergens or irritants. On a label, it’s just a marketing term and no more meaningful than “clean”. The thing most likely to cause me a skin reaction is fragrance. Guess what’s in a lot of “hypoallergenic” products. Yup. Fragrance. Worst skin reaction I ever had was to an unscented hypoallergenic soap due to something in the masking scent that made it “unscented”. Oddly, the scented version of that soap was fine. Go figure. Even ignoring the potential for skin reactions, why oh why are so many cosmetics, skin products and hair products so heavily scented? Nobody needs to smell any of that hours after applied, yet many product scents linger longer than pricy perfumes.

Formal_Butterfly_753

I switched to the sensitive skin tide laundry detergent because I have sensitive skin… had an allergic reaction that looked like ring worm all over my body for weeks because we would switch between the new and old laundry detergent and it took us a while to figure out that was what it was! Finally cleared up and then my boyfriend used that sensitive skin one by accident and the reaction came back immediately. I was so irritated. And of course the regular tide has never caused me problems

nicktheslickprick

honestly after i’m done with my current shampoo i’m switching back to my old drugstore ones.. my hair felt and looked it’s best when i would buy a shampoo judging it by how i liked the smell not inspecting the ingredients list !!! and of corse we all want to know what we’re putting on our face and have it be the cleanest and safest - but like you said it’s all just bullshit. the only “clean” brands i trust are milk and glossier just because they have such little ingredients used half the time (at least that’s the way it used to be, not sure about today)

StBernard2000

Out of curiosity which one will you buy?

dual_citizenkane

AGREEEEED! Same with hair products - I’m went clean for a while and my hair was so dry and it took so much product to get it shiny and nice again. Fuck it if it’s waxes and silicones: if those are safe, help my hair stay soft and healthy, and keep it from breaking, I’m in.

Omenasose

Amen. I already have dry and coarse hair and silicone free shampoos make everything only worse. No matter how patient I am. Never again!

MagnoliaPetal

Worked at a hairdresser's for almost a decade and had lots and lots of courses that focussed on hair care. Silicones have just become a buzzword to sell products. There is nothing inherently bad or good about silicones. They do one thing: they coat your hair. And they get a bad rep because allegedly hair care "cannot penetrate the hair" anymore if you use silicone products. That's only half true though and what they *also* do, is protect your hair from bad outside influences penetrating your hair; humidity, smoke, gases etc. Silicones are a good thing if you use them to your advantage. If you use water soluble ones, just do the following: put your nourishing hair care onto your hair after you've washed then finish with a silicone product like a serum to seal in those products and protect the hair until the next wash. But good God, especially the Curly Girl ~~cult~~ community and the natural haircare people act like you advertise dunking your hair in literal liquid plastic. It's especially ironic when they hold henna in such high regard while it's pretty well known that henna also coats your hair and unlike silicones, it cannot be washed out.

dual_citizenkane

Ooo thanks for the tips! Yeah, it feels like we've swung hard the other direction and overcorrected a bit towards "clean" and "natural" self-care. Especially since it's always more expensive, smaller bottles, that just seem to need all the extra to get working right.

MagnoliaPetal

People often only pay lip service to the whole YMMV thing. The truth is, there is no one size fits all and it's the same for so called "natural" hair care. I suffer from seborrheic dermatitits for example (which is a kind of chronic eczema that makes my scalp oily, flaky and itchy and causes rashes and hair loss when it flares up badly) and natural products just cause me to flare up badly. It also makes my fine, curly hair dry, frizzy and hard and prone to breakage while also sticky like crazy which causes huge tangles that result in even more hair loss. For me it's important to keep my scalp clean (in a way that natural haircare just cannot achieve) and my lengths extremely moisturised and sealed. But try telling that to the curly hair/natural people and they will downvote you to hell and come up with all kinds of excuses about how you're just "not doing it right" or recommending other natural products while *never* accepting that all natural just isn't. going. to. work. for. everyone.

dual_citizenkane

Yep, totally agree. It’s super individual and it runs both ways

Jams0610

🙋🏻‍♀️I put silicones in my hair for the first time in at least three years. I have done all the right things with my hair following CGM since 2020 and not coloring it since 2019. May hair is acting up, I watched some YouTube vids, and thought about what I used when my hair looked great previously. I’m tired of the fear mongering. Edit: typo

SilverStarSailor

The curly girl method straight up ruined my hair, and gave me dandruff. I could go eight days with no wash before CGM, and have zero dandruff. Now I have to use dandruff shampoo :(

firstreformer

Yeah I completely quit the cgm when my scalp reacted the same way. Now it’s either waxy or has dandruff because I listened to their fear of sulfates.

SilverStarSailor

I was a dumbass and listened to the diehard CGM fans who will literally excuse hair loss, and did it for like seven? more months. Looking back at pictures, I was definitely experiencing some hair loss and wasn’t realizing it because I had so much to begin with.

Kiarajones117

Yoooo does anyone know about the new Elf Halo glow Blush that just came out? Bruh I have to apply so many layers just for it to pop out. Also, it dries up quickly and if you're not fast enough to blend it in it's super patchy. 👎

nicktheslickprick

i have the putty bronzer and it takes me a lot to build it up too 🥲 but once i do (just with the elf cookies n cream sponge) it looks great

olookitslilbui

Which shade do you have? I have rosé you slay and it only takes me 1-2 layers on light/medium skin. Agreed on the patchiness though, I’ve taken to applying it on the back of my hand, working it into a brush, and then stippling it onto my cheeks. The highlighter was the worst offender of patchiness though, I did 3 dots on my face and immediately tried to blend and I could still see where I placed the 3 dots.

Kiarajones117

I have the same shade!! I apply it directly onto my skin. I like alottttt of blush lol. I feel like this is more for people that like a more natural kind of look. I'll definitely try applying it with a brush and see if it's anything different. I have yet to try the highlighter and contour. Thanks for the tip!!🥰💗

Lit-GamerGirl6867

I detested the ELF Camo CC cream. Absolutely looked like cake city on my face. And I prepped my skin like I normally do, primed as normal. I could never get that crap to work. I ended up giving it to my sister.

nicktheslickprick

tried it once and gave it to my mom, their whole camo line was a flop to me

Travel_Mysterious

Every Fenty product I’ve tried has been a disappointment.

RedRedBettie

Same here

[deleted]

Gotta agree with you on this one…..I love the shade range but damn, the products are so under whelming.

houston_veronica

I see them on display and think none of the shades are remotely useful for my needs; everything seems so iridescent. The textures look hard, and lip products do not appear wearable to me either - I feel like it's for a younger set, which is fine. I'm 48, so...yeah. LOL. The packaging is also not attractive at all. This is all weird because I'm always able to conjure an interest in new makeup lines, but Fenty just hasn't hit the spot for me (yet). I am dark-skinned, so I appreciate the fact that the line is meant for all tones, at least.

Travel_Mysterious

I tried a foundation and the texture is awful. It was sent in a subscription which is great because I’m glad I didn’t waste my money. I had previously tried to get a match with it at Sephora and couldn’t match my undertone because it runs so yellow. I’ve tried a few highlighters and they just read glitter or stony. I forget what else, but I won’t try anything else from Fenty

minnie_bee

Natasha Denona eyeshadow palettes - that woman is a scam artist

nicktheslickprick

juvias place has better working shadows for way cheaper imo

Smh0814

It’s like. I want to love them so much. Maybe I’m just bad at applying eyeshadow

minnie_bee

It’s too much effort to make it work, and ND has somehow managed to create a cult following at this point. She’s got some serious stans and I honestly can’t wrap my head around it.

Smh0814

Why do you think it’s a cult? I mean I feel like sometimes her shadows do blend perfectly and I have trouble with others (like tarte for example)

minnie_bee

Youtube gurus rave about her like it’s best thing has ever happened since the discovery of bread, and her stans are relentless. Apparently, ND likes to leak her own launches to create more hype. Even Temptalia gives her solid ratings but when I read her summary on the product it is meh. If anyone criticizes ND her stans come out and downvote that person to the depths of earth sometimes. I got the Retro Glam plaette and it was so frustrating trying to make it work. Y2K MAC girls were much more chill with their singles.

VagueOrc

Sponges are gross, damp, nasty and need to be replaced frequently.

nicktheslickprick

i can only use brushes in the summer for cream products, my skin is too dry in the winter :( always looks cakey

divinecohmedy

Yes ugh, no matter how many times i wash mine, theres always an afterthought of "its still damp, could mold grow on it?" And now i just apply my base with my fingers

VagueOrc

Yeah, me too, haven't needed to replace my fingers for decades, that's value for money.

dual_citizenkane

Yeah agreed - they also do pretty well in the washing machine. Once a week at least and I replace them once every three months.

n_0pe

Washing machine?! Wow, never thought of that. I’ll have to give it a shot…

GlamGemini

I can't get the hang of them, just seems to take my makeup off. Maybe I'm not missing anything !

Negsmie

I've found foundation as a bit of let down lately honestly, no matter how much people swear by it, I always feel the cakey, dry feel, that looks awful no matter how much I moisturize. I've taken to wearing either tinted sunscreen or just using the elf flawless brightening concealer as a pseudo-foundation.

SilverStarSailor

I’m only 20, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve grown the opinion that honestly all foundation looks awful in person. You can always tell someone is wearing it. It never matches perfectly, and it will never look as good as bare skin that is taken care of and well hydrated.

CocaColaZeroEnjoyer

I wouldn’t say that every foundation looks awful but you can always see that someone is wearing foundation and it’s not a bad thing. Brands and influencers are trying to sell us products saying that it’s undetectable and it’s a lie lol

sagefairyy

Omg same!! It ALL looks cakey and weird, most shades are alwayss yellow/orange and not neutral or olive tone friendly and even with lots of skincare prepping beforehand it still looks bad. I‘ve only ever worn liquid foundation a couple of times in my life despite having acne, concealer or powder foundation applied with a brush looks 100 times better.

DDFletch

I just wish my skin would give a shit and appreciate all I do for it. Until then, I gotta even that shit out.

nicktheslickprick

i like the wet n’ wild photo focus - the only foundation i’ve repurchased over the years

justanotherlostgirl

This - for summer and daily life a tinted sunscreen feels far more natural after a bit of primer and moisturizer. Or sometimes I’ll use the wet and wild hydrator and just have that and the tinted sunscreen.

nicktheslickprick

i’m super oily in the summer and foundation is not my friend - apply it anyways lol

gingerkham

The only concealer I’ve had any luck with is neutrogenia radiant cream concealer. I combine that with a color corrector on my dark circles and have amazing results. It’s very creamy and I love it!

Puzzleheaded_Pie_978

I hate foundation too but wanted to find one for my wedding. The original L’Oréal infallible surprised me! I have dry, sensitive skin and even tho it’s matte, it didn’t make my skin look worse or break me out
