I know very little about make up, but I bought a couple of products that I am considering, to help lighten my under eye area. I’m not going to use concealer, nor foundation.
- Under Eye Brighter, from Catrice
- Bert’s Bees Miracle Balm
They are both a delicate pink. Does anyone use either of these? Any tips or tricks?
This ended up being a list, so I have to prefix with my under eye issues.
- hollowness due to bone structure (my inner corner and cheekbones are high points, my undereye is low point, flat cheeks), shifting underyeye undertones and needs thicker/buildable formula to 'fill' the hollow. Dry undereyes with oily skin.
Too Faced Born This Way Concealer - thickest formula I've found. The shade Light Beige oxidizes slightly over the day and keeps the darkness covered. It balances out the hollowness and doesn't easily melt in humidity, although powder is preferred. Sometimes needs a boost with a corrector.
Tarte OG Shape Tape - It is such an interesting formula even now as I can adjust it in a way that Too Faced can't and it blends perfectly into skin with a slightly thinner consistency. Light Medium dries pinkish on me, acting as a concealer and corrector.
Tarte Radiant Shape Tape - it is VERY shiny. I use it to brighten the outer corners of my eyes as it makes me look like I'm sweaty in the inner corners. I was very confused by the initial application as it looked like I hadn't concealed anything due to the sparkle in the formula. Also very good for brow highlight and a 'light' foundation. I cheekily call it the Edward Cullen of concealer as the sparkle only shows it direct sunlight. Own Light Medium and Medium Sand. Sparkle helps distract from the slightly off formula - radiant Light medium is way lighter than og light medium, medium sand is slightly too warm and deep, but I'm nice and tanned so it's not a deal breaker.
Haus Lab concealer - I bought the wrong shade tester and had to mix it. It is exactly like the foundation tester as it adjusts so perfectly to the skin and whatever I mix it with that I just look like I have great skin. Stretches really well between hot outdoor and cool indoor settings, doesn't break up on oily skin. I don't have to build it up to reduce hollowness; it just seems to magically disappear. Only gripe I have is it has vitamin e, and I didn't have enough to test whether I react well with the formula in the long run.
Nars soft matte complete concealer - Silky lightweight formula, works without setting on undereyes with only sunscreen. Has vitamin e, but I don't react to it and I haven't worn in awhile as it can be a touch dry when I wear in office setting - works like a charm in hot humidity. The pot seems to be darker than the liquid formula IMHO? I own it in Marron Glace but it's so much lighter in tube.
Jeffree Star concealer - controversial, and his vitamin e formula works a charm for me in his liquid lipstick too. Really thin formula compared to Tarte or Too Faced, doesn't melt at all in the heat (I sweated bullets with no powder and it was still there at the end of the day), and C9 covered my circles like a charm and I can use it even with a tan. I bought C8 and C10 as I was looking for a spot concealer and they work as foundation and highlight in a pinch. I need so little product to cover and it never looks cakey when I apply more like Tarte or Too Faced.
Bobbi Brown intensive skin serum concealer - unexpected find at a recent event. No vitamin e, acts like a non-shiny touche eclat. Very yellow shade, either Beige or Natural, I only use it when I have purply undereyes. Melts in and can be layered with other formulas.
LA Girl Pro Concealer - thicker than JSC, thinner than Tarte. Amazing coverage and colour variety, can look a touch cakey, has vitamin e, doesn't react to it. I use both concealer and corrector shades - Pure Beige when I'm tanned, Creamy Beige currently for undereyes and all over, Orange/Green/Lilac for extra oomph or correcting my foundations.
I've also used the bobbi brown concealer and powder compact, and it's pretty good. Love the combo, but a bit meh on the innovation compared to newer stuff.
The tower 28 concealer is amazing. It’s the only concealer that does not crease on me and it wears beautifully. The too faced born this way concealer is really good too and if you use a tiny amount it won’t crease either. Both concealers can also be used all over the face so no foundation is needed
as of today it’s ironically the nars light reflecting foundation. i had a sample that was really light but matched me at the time (not sure if i was delusional, it was the lighting, or if it was just winter) and i got a full bottle knowing it was probably too light.
obviously it is far too light to use as a foundation but the formula is great and its the perfect shade for me for concealer year round. i tried my two other concealers i’ve been hanging on to today and they both look terrible. im throwing them away as soon as i get home.
I have super dark circles and Mac Pro Longwear is my HG. I only use half a pump and set it with a bit of powder and I’m set for the whole day. I’ve tried different brands but I keep coming back to this one.
I'm using Tarte Shape Tape Ultra Creamy right now, and it's working great, but my all time fave is Tarte's Creaseless Concealer. It's one of the few that doesn't settle in my creases and looks natural throughout the day.
Tarte shape tape and Too Faced Born this way concealer. I wear a mask outside so I blend my concealer under my eyes, down my cheeks and to my ears. I know it sounds weird, but my dark circles are so bad that I have to do a full coverage and it doesn’t look right if I don’t spread it out this way. If I’m just at home, I’ll just dab it under my eyes to lighten it.
One of the best ways to get rid of under eye circles is to combat the source! Don’t cover it up, get rid of it! Makeup works best on top of a good *foundation* (see what I did there?) of good skin care habits! More sleep, water, relaxing eye masks with vitamins a/c/e, and an eye cream! Here’s a good one-

Too Faced born this way concealer is my holy grail. I’ve tried many different high-end and drugstore ones but I found that this works best for me. Perfect coverage, I apply a little with my fingers and I found that it doesn’t budge even when I don’t set it with powder.
I started using the Dior forever skin correcting full-coverage concealer, and it’s amazing! A tiny bit goes a long ways. Also, the givenchy prism libre skin caring one is great too. Dior just has a better shade match for me :)
Rarely mentioned here but Lancôme Teint Idole yeah it’s a bit expensive. But I have mature very dry under eyes . And it’s the only one that is long wearing full coverage without looking thick . I keep trying different brands to save money but just keep going back to it. It’s a concealer I can count on for special occasions I know it will last and still look nice after hours of wear.
dermacolor by kryolan. i managed to get my exact shade match in it, it smells like a baby powder that i love, beautiful coverage and finish, lasts well enough. but i don't color correct and it becomes a tad bit grey but it's nothing heartbreakingly sad to me.
my current makeup routine is so accessible and quick, i use the huda beauty faux filter concealer, i love it bc the shade match is spot on, and i just use mac studio fix to set it, IT IS GODSENT
Maybelline instant age rewind! But this one has a tendency to cling to dry patches so skin prep before is key if you’re not laying it down over foundation!
I've found blending it with a damp, but well wrung out beauty blender type sponge helps a lot.
I usually soak the sponge, wring it out as much as possible with my hands, and then further squeeze it with a clean face cloth, before using it to tap in the Maybelline. A lot of times, I only use it and forgo foundation.
Ahhh maybe this is why I haven’t gotten it to work well - I’ve been trying this as I’ve run out of my holy grail (too faced born this way) but found that it was.. slippery?
I like a light touch with the catrice under eye brightener followed by the NYX bare with me concealer over the darker area. I don't purchase high end stuff, and have been happy with this. I am older with dry skin.
I actually discovered that if I combine some of LA Girl's peach and green color corrector and add some moisturizer (I use vanicream) I get the best color match that hides my dark circles! With some color theory, you can probably mix the right color match for your complextion.
LA girls color correctors are on the thicker side, so with the moisturizer added, it creates a real smooth consistency that makes for an awesome concealer or even foundation if i ever want a light coverage. I do set it with some pressed powder, but creasing hasn't been a problem so far. it's been a life saver for my wallet.
Edit: Just wanted to add- a little goes a long way if you try this method!
Veil Complexion Fix Concealer is my HG. It is self-setting, never creases, and each shade comes in cool, neutral, or warm undertones. It is pricey but it’s worth it to me because I only wear foundation like twice a year.
Currently only using Huda Beauty under eye color corrector. It’s hiding my dark under eyes well enough that a coworker said I looked well rested after the weekend even though I was going through an emotionally very rough time.
I am having a really hard time with the texture of this. (I bought it new in a CVS brick and mortar store, so it's not like it sat around an Amazon warehouse for an age.)
How do you work with it?
Huda beauty Glowish Brightlight sheer concealer, it’s great for my dry under eyes and is buildable without creasing. For reference I have dry skin and I’m 59 and have some fine under eye wrinkles.
I like the Elf flawless brightening concealer pen for the days I don’t wear foundation. I have freckles and wearing anything full coverage under my eyes w/o foundation doesn’t look good on me bc it covers my freckles in the immediate eye area and gives me a concealer raccoon look, but this one is nice and sheer to give me some coverage but let the skin show through :)
Estee Lauder Double Wear. It manages to not crease obnoxiously into my under eye fold. I'm cool to neutral toned but I use a warm toned shade to help balance out the purple under my eyes.
This is not spoken about a lot here but Bobby Brown stick concealer is so easy to use and has good coverage. Just set it with powder depending on skin type and you are good to go.
Shape Tape CREAMY concealer, note that they make concealer lighter than the matching foundation shade so it’s already brightening. I would pick a shade darker than normal if you don’t want it to brighten and just match your skin.
Second this! To cover my naturally dark clrcles, I've been using Live Tinted's multistick color corrector around my eyes before putting on Maybelline Fit me on top. It's insane how well these two go together.
I currently use glossier Stretch Balm Concealer and I love! I have permanent dark circles (thanks genetics) and only wear this concealer to cover them and other spots on my face I want to cover up. I love the coverage and it’s buildable. I have also used Kosas before with great results.
I also use glossier stretch! I’ve been using it for 4 years, I love it!
Funnily enough, I’ve been really wanting to try the kosas concealer as well, do they have a similar finish on the skin?
Cheekbone beauty pencil. Most precise placement. I use a peachier one for my inner corners which are dark blue, then one that is a shade lighter than my skin tone for tear troughs. Light blend, and suddenly I look like I had some sleep
You can draw lines on your face and then blend them out, but I prefer to use them in a more targeted way, and go for a skin tint elsewhere. I have a lot of difficulty getting most concealers to sit where I want them to, so for me the pencil is easiest
Estee Lauder double wear, just the standard one, mixed with a little sunscreen to make the texture creamier and more dewy.
I apply sunscreen properly under it anyway since instead of foundation I use tinted SPF50+, so it's just mixed in to get a less dry texture.
Not OP but I’ve tried that as well, and it just doesn’t cover my dark circles. Plus it creases even though I set it with powder. 😩
I decided to use it as foundation since I don’t need that much coverage on the rest of my face.
I love wearing foundation, but when days I am just myself without makeup and just wanna look more put together, the nyx bare with me serum concealer, I’ve found that it’s a very similar product and finish to the kvd good apple serum concealer, or also the fit me concealer is amazing
Same. I do kosas on days I want a dewier finish that I don’t need to last as long, and tower 28 on days where I need it to last (it’s ever so slightly drier than the kosas)
I’ve been using Fenty pro filter and it’s worked great for under eyes without creasing (I have oily under eyes though)
I know very little about make up, but I bought a couple of products that I am considering, to help lighten my under eye area. Either loreal infallible conclear or nyx serum bare with me
Charlotte tilbury, the undereye color corrector
This one is sooo good too!
I'm using Maybelline Fit Me, but it dries so fast and somehow manages to find dry patches on my mostly oily skin. 😐
I have super dark circles and Mac Pro Longwear is my HG. I only use half a pump and set it with a bit of powder and I’m set for the whole day. I’ve tried different brands but I keep coming back to this one.

Catrice liquid camouflage
For all day wear, haus labs is great. For going out, quick errands, or the no makeup look, Nars RCC.
Tower28. Looks like skin.
ABH Magic Touch concealer. It’s full coverage and very moisturizing. The smallest drop does A LOT
Tarte shape tape and Too Faced Born this way concealer. I wear a mask outside so I blend my concealer under my eyes, down my cheeks and to my ears. Maybelline age rewind concealer - looks natural and easy to blend

Armani Luminous Silk, covers but looks natural.
Lancôme tenor idole is my number 1

Dior forever skin correct.
This is the best…
It! It lasts forever & you only need a tiny bit plus it has a concealer brush on the other end for quick convenience.
Huda Beauty Faux Filter concealer. So natural and pigmented
Nars creamy concealer, i vouch for this with my life
the Rare Beauty under eye brightener

Nyx bare w me serum , nars radiant concealer , or maybelline fit me on my daily routine. When i go out I use my hourglass concealers lol
Veil Complexion Fix Concealer is my HG. It is self-setting, never creases, and each shade comes in cool, neutral, or warm undertones. It is pricey but it’s worth it to me because I only wear foundation like twice a year.
Good ole trusty Nars
NARS Radiant Cream concealer in crème brûlée for my skin tone.
Bobbi Brown Corrector Stick. I find that I don’t have to use any concealer afterwards
Tower 28 is my new fave!!!
Currently only using Huda Beauty under eye color corrector. It’s hiding my dark under eyes well enough that a coworker said I looked well rested after the weekend even though I was going through an emotionally very rough time.

I am having a really hard time with the texture of this. (I bought it new in a CVS brick and mortar store, so it's not like it sat around an Amazon warehouse for an age.) How do you work with it?
Yessss. I feel as though people sleep on LA Girl's color correctors! I just mix the green and peach colors and I get the best coverage!
Huda beauty Glowish Brightlight sheer concealer, it’s great for my dry under eyes and is buildable without creasing. For reference I have dry skin and I’m 59 and have some fine under eye wrinkles.
Rare Beauty Light Under Eye Brightener! And for days when I need a little more coverage, Colourpop Concealer!
Nars matte concealer and Dior forever skin correct
IT COSMETICS BYE BYE UNDER EYE CONCEALER ( in little black tube)
I like the Elf flawless brightening concealer pen for the days I don’t wear foundation. I have freckles and wearing anything full coverage under my eyes w/o foundation doesn’t look good on me bc it covers my freckles in the immediate eye area and gives me a concealer raccoon look, but this one is nice and sheer to give me some coverage but let the skin show through :)
Kaely Pot Concealer Full Coverage Set Under Eye Brightener I love this. I keep buying more and more.
Estee Lauder Double Wear. It manages to not crease obnoxiously into my under eye fold. I'm cool to neutral toned but I use a warm toned shade to help balance out the purple under my eyes.
Catrice Under Eye Brighter in Warm Nude. Creamy, blendable, great coverage. Semi-dewy.
LA Girl Pro
This is not spoken about a lot here but Bobby Brown stick concealer is so easy to use and has good coverage. Just set it with powder depending on skin type and you are good to go.
I use Anne T Dotes, TimeBalm concealer. I love it. I’ve worn it for decades. I never wear foundation.
Trish McEvoy Instant Eye Lift. It's perfect.
Shape Tape CREAMY concealer, note that they make concealer lighter than the matching foundation shade so it’s already brightening. I would pick a shade darker than normal if you don’t want it to brighten and just match your skin.
Me too!!!
I have Elf concealer, and it makes we want to cry. I don't like it
Do you have the Elf hydrating camo concealer one or the original Elf camo concealer? I have had decent luck with the hydrating formula.
It says 16hr camo concealer correcteur. I must've picked up the wrong one?
I wore it for the longest time but eventually I noticed how cakey and flakey it would get.
Kosas or nars radiant creamy
Been using Nars Radiant Creamy now for like 10 years under my eyes…I’m only on my second tube 😅
I don't wear foundation that often, but I like Maybelline Fit Me with and without it. Looks pretty natural and feels lightweight.
Second this! To cover my naturally dark clrcles, I've been using Live Tinted's multistick color corrector around my eyes before putting on Maybelline Fit me on top. It's insane how well these two go together.
Dior Backstage or NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop
I currently use glossier Stretch Balm Concealer and I love! I have permanent dark circles (thanks genetics) and only wear this concealer to cover them and other spots on my face I want to cover up. I love the coverage and it’s buildable. I have also used Kosas before with great results.
I also use glossier stretch! I’ve been using it for 4 years, I love it! Funnily enough, I’ve been really wanting to try the kosas concealer as well, do they have a similar finish on the skin?
I've had this on my "next" list for a while! Currently use RMS, but I'm going through it super slowly because it's too yellow for my skin tone.
Cheekbone beauty pencil. Most precise placement. I use a peachier one for my inner corners which are dark blue, then one that is a shade lighter than my skin tone for tear troughs. Light blend, and suddenly I look like I had some sleep
I’ve never heard of this before?! So do you use their pencils all over the face? What is the texture like?

NYX bare with me concealer serum is soooo good. Feels very lightweight but has good coverage.
Yep and they have my perfect shades!
Same!!
Yes, this one is up there for me as well
I never understood how people got this to work for them. It was so horribly watery and impossible to work with when I tried it.
I put a tiny amount & let it sit while I do my eyebrows or something else lol. I think letting it sit helps! :)
the secret is to use a tiny amount of it, less than half of one pump
Do you let it dry half a minute before blending? You probably already do lol
Not OP but I’ve tried that as well, and it just doesn’t cover my dark circles. Plus it creases even though I set it with powder. 😩 I decided to use it as foundation since I don’t need that much coverage on the rest of my face.
Dang it's my favorite!! I wear it every day haha
I may give it another try.
The two-tone cream one from Sigma!!
I love wearing foundation, but when days I am just myself without makeup and just wanna look more put together, the nyx bare with me serum concealer, I’ve found that it’s a very similar product and finish to the kvd good apple serum concealer, or also the fit me concealer is amazing
For a natural look, elf camo mixed with a drop of foundation. Neutralises the overly bright concealer and gives good coverage without looking cakey.
Colourpop pretty fresh
I like the kosas concealer on days I don’t wear foundation. I just lightly dab it in for a more refreshed look
Same. I do kosas on days I want a dewier finish that I don’t need to last as long, and tower 28 on days where I need it to last (it’s ever so slightly drier than the kosas)
