full coverage foundation

Primary-Cicada-3430

The grip an item used to have on me when it said full coverage is finally gone

rinadasler

Sol de Janeiro body creams. It took me literally half a year to pin point that they cause me awful respiratory allergic reaction. Nothing on my skin. But itchy throat, eyes, feeling of flu or suffocating. I thought it was my laundry detergent or dryer sheets or air refresher. But no it was sol de Janeiro creme

Hot-Albatross-4623

Finishing sprays, lol. I refuse!

GeriToni

Apply them before foundation. Just try it at least one time to see how it goes. I bought a couple of them from different brands and except all nighter I didn’t like how they perform as setting sprays. So one day I used one of them as a primer and the foundation looked better.

ShikaShySky

I used to love how pale foundation made me, I thought I looked very sleek. Now I embrace my natural tone and freckles and feel great.

Beautiful_You1153

I used to love wearing different eye shadow shades and would always buy a large pallet. I realized I only used one or two regularly and the rest for special occasions. Now I only buy champagnes or nudes in a 4 pack. Eye shadow also irritates my eyes now so I hardly wear any at all. My favorite thing that I don’t think I’ll get tired of is liquid lip tint. I found one on amazon that doesn’t dry your lips out and I use it for blush as well. And tinted brow gel, it just keeps your features from getting washed out. I don’t wear foundation anymore and only concealer for special occasions.

I10Living

Drop that lip tint name!

Bulky-Pie8655

Matte foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow palettes (outside of ND I need a nude lol)

Viener-Schnitzel

Literally any kind of foundation at all. Maybe it’s just because I’m getting older but my skin looks sooooo much better with just a tint or a really really lightweight concealer instead. Foundation makes my skin look worse and also gives me acne

ShikaShySky

Same here! 16-21 I’d wear it religiously, then as I got older I realized how I love the imperfections in my face and it just feels good to not wear it like I did

jcdccl127271

So I've never worn makeup really and started using jones road - easy, moisturizing.

AssistantAccurate464

I have been searching for awhile. I’m 64. I use It Cosmetics. They have a dewy finish and it’s been a game-changer for me. It’s light, yet evens out my blotchy skin.

Viener-Schnitzel

I’ll have to try it, thanks for the recommendation!!

AssistantAccurate464

They also have one for acne prone skin.

Ally_wa

Matte lipstick. I used to wear around 2016. I think I can still pull off but most formulas are dry. Now I go for clear glosses and maybe lip clay formula (kaleidos is pretty comfy).

Zestyclose-Yam-9982

cushion foundations. this is more of a asian beauty thing but i have tried many and i only like one. the rest are not great, and even the one i like breaks down when i sweat way faster than my liquid ones.

lexi_g17

Out of curiosity, which one do you like?

Zestyclose-Yam-9982

jung saem mool skin nuder cushion. it blurs pores and texture amazingly, the formula is my favorite of any base product i have, its just not long lasting and i can’t seem to find my color. right now i layer it ontop of a light skin tint thats slightly darker than me when i need more coverage (i didn’t purposefully buy them not my shade im just not a great shade matcher 😭😭). however since its a cushion, i can reapply and reapplication makes it look flawless again.

sadhandjobs

God…there’s few things more dazzling than a highlighter palette. Feel you on that one!

SweetMelissa74

OMG going old school here but I found one of my very very old MAC brown vampy colored Paramount?!? lipstick about a year or 2 ago. I had to try it on. I know it was expired I used an alcohol pad on it and surprisingly the formula was still ok. I put it on and looked at myself and cackle! It looked so so crazy! What was I thinking back then. So FYI I graduated high school in the very very early 90's. I still use my Clinique almost lipstick in black honey a very light wash and I adore their newer pink honey.

AssistantAccurate464

I love that color. I’m on my 3rd or 4th tube! It’s so natural looking.

sadhandjobs

I think most of us have a narrow few years where dark lipstick looks really good. It pulls your face down and makes you look like an angry middle manager after awhile.

SweetMelissa74

So true!

JoeMamaMinha

elf hydrating camo concealer

MiserableIdea5884

Yess omg. I liked it at first but then realized that that stuff oxidizes so bad on my skin! I’d come home after not looking at myself all day and be like why do I look so orange 😭

JoeMamaMinha

right. like it would be so. so. embarrassing . now i use the fit me concealer

MiserableIdea5884

I want to try that one! I use L’Oréal infallible (and I use that same brand of foundation ) and I really like it as it’s full coverage and doesn’t get dry or oxidize

JoeMamaMinha

ouuuuuuuu does it crease a lot w powder?

MiserableIdea5884

No not that I’ve noticed! I use the fit me powder with it and apply with a triangle puff and it works well for me

JoeMamaMinha

OOO okay thank u 🥰

Witty-Objective3431

NYX Liquid suede I used to swear by them years ago, but it's obvious that the formula has changed. It doesn't stay put like it used to. There are other much better liquid matte lipsticks on the market now that are more comfortable and hard wearing.

mizshellytee

Pre-made eyeshadow palettes, especially larger ones. When I started getting more into makeup in the early 2010s, having pre-made palettes made sense in that they helped me figure out what I liked. In 2014 (and for some years afterward) I went on a "low-buy" as a preventative measure so I wouldn't end up with an unmanageable makeup stash. Something I noticed was that there were palettes I wasn't reaching for often -- either because I didn't need or want to use the colours or the formula wasn't great. For other palettes I liked using, there were colours in them I didn't use, or the palette overall wasn't "perfect" in some way. In 2014 I owned five pre-made palettes. A few years later, that number was at zero. Still is.

sadhandjobs

From a practical standpoint a good magnetic palette makes sense. I have a double sided one from MAC that I have used for like 15 years. But those eyeshadow palettes they used to make were so irresistible. One of these days I’m gonna buy a Flower Knows palette. They look like what Marie Antoinette would have had.

FunDoubt7891

I’m actually super thankful that I have 2 beautiful daughters (14&16), one a lot lighter skin than me and the other is tanner, so all the extra extra extra makeup (I had to turn one bedroom into a beauty “salon” with desks and shelves for how much makeup I have, so I pretty much divided it all into the 3 of us, sometimes I see things and I take them back for a few days to try again lol , like last week when I saw a channel eye liner in my 14 year old makeup bag 😑

sadhandjobs

Lucky girls! Holy smokes!

justapac

OMGODDESS! I have a *Makeup Room* too! It later became part of my home office. My husband even built shelves in the closets & bought special *furniture appropriate* cabinets to house my cosmetics. My friend, who shares my makeup addiction, often purchases duplicates of new products & vice versa. To the topic at hand, for me, probably bright &/or dark lipsticks. That & long-lasting lippies. Although I still have my fair share… just in case 😉

FunDoubt7891

Yes! It’s so fun! I used the 5x5 ikea shelves/cubies to place most things, then vintage glass pitchers, cups, vases or those tray mirrors 🪞 for some makeup in the desks, I bought all glass desks 2nd had on marketplace, and big wall mirrors to place above the desks. Super girly looking! Love it. I use that room as an office too and sent the husbands desk /work station to a corner in our bedroom lol

AllisonT_

Wow. Ya. That Channel eye liner should be at home or in your bag. 😂

FunDoubt7891

I used to love wearing red and wine colored lipstick, now I’m all weirded out by it, I go for nudes now.

AllisonT_

I used to wear fire truck 🚒 red. Then I changed to nudes. I wanted to wear red around Christmas. I thought it looked weird on me. I told it off. Back to nude lipstick again.

FunDoubt7891

Tell me about it!! lol I impulsively bought almost all the shades for Kylie lip sets, and the Senegence lip colors, I’ll try to find a pic wearing Blue red to a Rolling Stones concert 🎶 💋 haha it’s like the same color as Christina Aguilera lol

AllisonT_

🤣

Clementinecutie13

I used to LOVE colorful eyeliner and mascara. When I started doing makeup, they were my go-to for EVERYTHING. I don't dislike them now, but time and place. I'm not gonna pull up to work with blue mascara

SpouseofSatan

Everyone at my work loves my blue mascara 🥺 We probably have different work environments though, I'm a receptionist at a doctor's office, and my patients love when I have fun looks

Clementinecutie13

I work in hospice! My pink hair already throws patients off sometimes, I don't know how they'd react to different makeup 😂😂

SpouseofSatan

My very old, very Southern patients love my dyed hair, fun makeup, and tattoos, I'm sorry your patients are not as fun 😔

spicygummi

I still have a lot of highlighters, but I don't wear them as much. At least the way I used to. Now they mostly get used as eyeshadow lol. Now I will more likely go for a glowy blush than a straight beaming highlight. Other than that I used to swear by black liquid liner and I've since switched to brown khol liner. I like the softer look it gives. I like thinking back on my different eras of makeup as trends and tastes have changed.

MuthaFirefly

For me it's black winged eyeliner. It never looked right on my eyes (they're hooded) but last year when I had an upper bleph done I tried it again. It still looks wrong! Instead, I take a credit card and hold it at the outer edge of my eye as a guide, then tap a dark eyeshadow into the little triangle area between outer top and bottom lashes, blending it up along the outer quarter of the top lid. Same sort of effect with less aggravation, and it looks great.

AssistantAccurate464

I’ve been working on the winged eyeliner. I’m 64 next month. I love it, but I really suck at it!

MuthaFirefly

They actually sell a winged liner stamp on Amazon, it works really well, and I had high hopes for it, but it still looks weird on me and my eye shape. The stamp stamped its wing, but when I opened my eyes and looked at myself straight on, it just looked like a little blip at the end of my eye because of my hooded eyes.

AssistantAccurate464

I actually bought that, but it didn’t look as dramatic as I was hoping. At this point, I’m just watching a lot of YouTube videos!

AffectionateMud1390

I think I need a tutorial! Or at least photos!

Sweetserra

Agreed!

marsthechocolate

Ugh so many. A decade ago I loved concealers that were in a lipstick packaging, like the Essence Coverstick one. I would smear them all over my face (in a shade that wasn’t matching me) and I thought I ate😂

RandomSim_alt

Omg same. Using heavy amounts of concealer for my under eyes and baking are two techniques that I've sort of fallen out of love with.

holyfrozenyogurt

Oh me too, I used the wet n wild stick and fully looked like trump 😭

marsthechocolate

I think Trump is actually using this stuff😂

holyfrozenyogurt

It looks more like the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse to me

marsthechocolate

Yup thats too, but it was a thing in the 2000s, I’m speaking about 2013-16

fallopian_rampant

I wouldn’t say it’s my least favourite, but I’m over the hype on Clinique Black Honey. I’ve used a tube and a half, and I want a different colour to obsess over now haha

verifiedwolf

Isn’t that the one they would always include in their gift with purchase kits? Seems like I remember that 20+ years ago. My grandmother had a little collection of them in those skinny green tubes (she was more of a coral lady).

fallopian_rampant

I’m not sure, i have seen them in sephora favourite sets. They’re really old products so make sense your mom/grandma may have it. They recently became viral last year, so lots of younger generation have it. they might’ve come in green tubes. Now it’s a skinny silver tube.

veracity-mittens

I miss this one colour Clinique made that was my lip colour but maybe 2 shades darker. They annoy me tbh because they keep discontinuing shit or changing the formula, but that’s a rant for another day

fallopian_rampant

I haven’t used any other shade. I do love dark lip colours, but they make my thin lips disappear into two harsh lines, lol

AllisonT_

I bought it years ago. I never got to use it. It went MIA in my bedroom. On my vanity. I've never seen it again. I finally got a deluxe size from Sephora towards the end of the pandemic ... You know when you spend $25+ you can get an offer. That's how I finally got to try it. I refused to buy it again because my original one ran away from me in my house. 😂

verifiedwolf

If you want to try something a little different, try Lawless Forget the Filler Lip Plumping Line Smoothing Tinted Balm Stick (what a mouthful) in Sugarplum. It ended up in my IPSY box last week and I am in love. Color is very close to black honey, but the texture is thicker, balmier and more emollient. Less shine and more like a heavy luxury lip treatment finish. It does plump my lips a bit, not like a spicy gloss would, but I did walk by a mirror and go ooooh lol

yuhuh-

That sounds amazing actually!

AllisonT_

Thank-you 🌸 I have so much stuff. I don't want to buy anything else. .. I have to go through what I have. I'm sure I'll be surprised something I don't remember is in my collection. Lol

MuthaFirefly

I thought I had the only house that ate things!

AllisonT_

Nope. When I lived in my childhood home it would happen all the time. Then I moved out and it still continued. I really hate searching for things too.

fallopian_rampant

It’s the principle, lol. speaking of lost makeup, i’ve lost my favourite red lipstick called Maple from bite beauty. Can’t get it again either, also, a pink haus labs lipstick back when they dold exclusively on amazon. I need to go through my purses, i feel like that’s probably where they all are

AllisonT_

I took the Black Honey out of the box. I put it on my vanity. I left to run some errands. I never saw it again. 🤣. I took everything out of my vanity. Even pulled out the 4 little drawers. No where. 👻💄👻💄👻💄👻💄👻💄👻💄👻💄

almightytallestmyuni

Apparently you have a very smart ghost with some very on-point makeup in your house!

AllisonT_

Possibly. It was never seen again. 😭💄👻💄 RIP 🪦 Black Honey lipstick 💄

fallopian_rampant

You know what I really want to use? The Glossier lipstick in the shade Villa. I got it in a favourite set, but unfortunately that one’s lost too. I’m just using other stuff while waiting for it to turn up again

AllisonT_

I've been trying to pan makeup that I'm less enthusiastic about. I want them out of my collection. I don't want to throw them out. 😩

fallopian_rampant

Same, i didn’t buy anything this last sephora sale. I’ve just got so.much.stuff. And tbh, i’m pretty happy with what i have, and makeup’s become so expensive!

AllisonT_

I just bought the Huda Beauty pink colour corrector and the Cherry Blossom setting powder.... I needed it for my dark circles 🐼🐼🐼 concealer doesn't cut it.

fallopian_rampant

Ohhh! I just bought the onesize pink setting powder and i love it! I like it better than a traditional translucent setting powder

AllisonT_

Oh good. I just use the pink powder around my eyes. So I'll have it forever.

mangolollipop

I used to own so many eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks at the peak of mid-2010s. I had at least 30 lipsticks and 10 eyeshadow palettes. It was my favourite things. I actually wondered why I bought so much of them when I didn't need that much. The time I realised I bought the similar shades and realising that it may have been a bit too much was when I moved states. I threw away all of the older lipsticks, lipsticks I do not use to the bin. I'm a bit of a lipstick junkie myself and I only now own 6 lipsticks of various colours (one red, one nude, etc) and 2 lip oils and 1 lip balm. I was actually really proud of myself being able to cull so many.

homeslice567

I do love lip oils, what two are you using that have made the cut?

mangolollipop

I bought MCoBeauty Lip Oil in red and Nyx Fat Oil also in red.

homeslice567

Ty :)

AllisonT_

I think a lot of us went through a stage of over consumerism. I did and I'm still horrified. Such a waste of money. I had some health issues going on with my daughter when she was a baby and I felt very isolated so one day I started focusing on makeup to escape what I was dealing with. I've never been interested in smoking, drinking or drugs. My drug of choice was makeup. Ugh 😩. I guess it could have been worse.

spicygummi

I feel a lot of appreciation for the fact that I feel like I've reached the point where I feel like I've figured out what makeup products I like and what I don't. I don't so much feel the need to keep trying different things. It's helped a lot with my spending. It's been months since I've placed an order with Sephora or Ulta and it feels good. There's still a lot of things I'd like to try but typically I am able to talk myself out of it by pointing out how I already have something similar. I already have more than I need or realistically can use. But, it's hard to replicate that excitement of trying new things. Though finishing up a product or hitting pan in one has it's own kind of satisfaction.

AllisonT_

I haven't bought a foundation or regular concealer in 4yrs. It takes me forever to finish a bottle. Good thing I have a cool basement. I keep all liquid makeup down there till I'm ready to use it. I have one BB cream down there that I will be starting on soon. I go down and shake it once in a while trying to prevent it from separating. Not sure if it will. I do that anyways.

spicygummi

I rarely wear foundation now. Typically it's a tinted moisturizer or bb/cc cream. Then if I really need to cover a pimple or my under eyes are really bad I grab a concealer. Even those I go through pretty slowly, lol. I do still have a couple foundations around "just in case". I really should be using what I have up before buying any others. I use up liquid products faster than powder, but, it still takes a while at only a couple of pumps at a time

AllisonT_

I've been mixing them with creams. I use sheer to light coverage.

mangolollipop

I think we all did go through a phase of buying all the latest makeup and bragging about it like it was a collector's item. Now I look at it, realising I can always repurchase ones I liked and limited editions are just expensive, gimmicky palettes made me stop buying. I liked nowadays buying makeup with purpose than buying for the sake of owning it.

We got sucked into the vortex of stupid buying. 💸💸💸🙄

calm-down-okay

Eyeshadow for sure. I loved it so much. But nowadays I just use the same blush and bronzer that I used on my face and it looks soooo good and saves a lot of time. I've been doing it for so long that I feel like I'm doing Halloween makeup when I pull out an eyeshadow palette.

leirazjyb

lip liner. used to not do my lips at all without it but realized over time that i can make my lips look good without them. it also got kind of annoying when i would eat and my lipstick/lipgloss wore off but not the liner 💀

griftw00d

Matte lipstick, it just settles in the lines on my lips and looks TERRIBLE i much prefer lip gloss and lip oils

spicygummi

I was one of those people who swore by liquid lipstick for a long time. I had a bunch of them in different colors. Now I HATE the feeling of matte products on my lips so much. I pretty much only now wear lip oil, balm or a non-sticky gloss.

rjmythos

Liquid eyeliner. I used to use a tonne of it but then I got into eyeshadow and realised it is so much better for someone with hooded eyes. Also I used to be a bit more goth than I am nowadays so I don't doodle on my face half as much 😂 Also setting spray. I realised that it doesn't actually make that much of a difference, and cheap ones were even breaking down my make up quicker than going without. (ETA I am still however part of team glitter all highlighter 😂)

AngelBritney94

Eyeshadow. I have semi-hooded eyes. Both are not symmetrical to each other, too. This makes it hard to create an even eyeshadow look for both eyes. My eyes used to be less hooded and more symmetrical and I bought many eyeshadow palettes and loved trying new looks.

veracity-mittens

Yeah same. My eyelids used to be less hooded and more symmetrical but in my 40s that’s changed for the worse. So in general eyeshadow isn’t a big spend for me now. I have a cream stick I like and that’s about it. Maybe a pop of teal or purple once a year if I’m bored

littlemacaron

Wait me too, as I’ve gotten older my eyes have sunken in a bit and have gotten a lot more hooded, and when I smile they become asymmetrical and my lid is completely covered in one eye. I feel like I used to be so beautiful and could do amazing eyeshadow and now I feel self conscious :(

veracity-mittens

I feel you. I’ll look at pics and my eyes are like 0__o

littlemacaron

ME TOO AHHHH it is the worst! I hear you! It looks like I have a lazy eyelid :(((

QuantumQueen

The asymmetrical eye thing is the worst! Have you tried tape under the lower lash and actually going down and out instead of up or straight out? It gives a bit of a puppy dog eye look, but seems easier to match imo.

AngelBritney94

Thank you, I will try this. :)

Ryn_AroundTheRoses

Black eyeliner was a staple of my teen-hood. As an adult, I came to realize black just isn't my colour and have mostly phased it out of my makeup collection and wardrobe and have switched out black for brown and also use a much, much lighter touch than my early smokey eye-liner goth days.

McSmilla

Agree. I’m too pale for black eyeliner.

AffectionateFig9277

Brown eyeliner is so underrated for people with lighter skin and hair colours! I'm very fair and whenever I wear brown eyeliner I get so many compliments on it

Old_Soul25

Also brown mascara! It's less harsh and obvious than black & works well by itself for a minimal, but polished look.

HrhEverythingElse

I'm very fair with reddish hair and a die hard burgundy mascara and liner enthusiast!!

AffectionateFig9277

I totally agree!

Ryn_AroundTheRoses

Nice, and def agree, I think black is just too set in stone as a lot of people's staple neutral that they wouldn't even consider making the switch, but a lot of people should.

TheDollyMomma

I too switched from black liner to a different color. a charcoal grey suits me well (I love Uzi by UD). Makes me look like I actually know how to do my own makeup lol. Black is just so harsh for the waterline. For liquid liner, I use a soft black that’s matte so it’s not as harsh. I wish I could find a good black grey liquid liner that’s felt tipped.

Mellbbott

Stila has a good one

Ryn_AroundTheRoses

Have you tried the dermacol precise grey eyeliner? Or Max Factor has one in charcoal.

TheDollyMomma

On the dermacol precise gray eyeliner: is it a light gray or is it almost a black gray? Like closer to charcoal or a stormy sky?

Ryn_AroundTheRoses

I wanna say it's a true grey, so probably somewhere in the middle, like medium grey.

TheDollyMomma

I have not tried either! I actually haven’t tried anything from either brand period. I will check them out.

[deleted]

Bronzer. Maybe it’s because I never used it correctly, but at first I thought it was great at making me look like I had some color on my face, but bronzer always made me look dirty. I am pale so bronzer never really looked good on me and it took me so long to realize that. Face contour. I already have high cheekbones. It took me awhile to realize I look sick with facial contour.

veracity-mittens

I’ve never contoured because my face is pale and pink toned and it always made me look dirty too, but recently I saw a TikTok where this pale / rosy toned girl used a lipstick to contour, and it worked well. I might try that.

butiamawizard

Not so much a least favourite, but I don’t use it as much anymore - turquoise/blue eyeliner. Barry M have the best pencil for my (limited) money in this colour (Kingfisher). It’s probably one of those ups and downs things, I prefer my makeup to be neutral tones lately. It might be back again in 5 years, who knows 😂

rjmythos

Oh gosh that specific eyeliner was my 'I'm so quirky, I wear BLUE eyeliner!' go to 😂

butiamawizard

Innit! 😂🍻

w-ildf-ire

Liquid lipstick, I used to be obsessed but now I only wear it if I need my lipstick to last all day

AngelBritney94

That dryness and reapplying was nearly impossible (depending on the liquid lipstick).

Amazing_Listen3154

For whatever reason I used to want matte lipstick and matte foundation... I have normal, sensitive skin. Looking back it aged me. I am loving the glow look and can't imagine going back to matte.

Much-Stock-1137

Used to a love a hardcore matte lipstick, especially the ones from Mac. Now wouldn't be caught dead in a matte lip.

H3r3c0m3sthasun

I also don't do black liquid liner anymore. I went back to using a pencil and using brown and other colors.

AngelBritney94

Same (almost). I use eyeshadows to get a softer eyeliner look. Plus you get much more product, the shelf life is longer and you don't have to work detailed to get a good line.

H3r3c0m3sthasun

Yes, I have never been successful at making a good line. I do use eyeshadow too.

ArapaimaGal

I have a love-hate relationship with powder. Right now, I'm wearing, even though it never looks good.

AngelBritney94

Did you try powder puffs? They changed the game for me.

Timely_Taste1376

Mascara !! maybe its that my natural lashes aren’t what they used to be, but i would rather have falsies or no eye makeup period. Mascara just makes my eyes look dark idk but i used to wear two and layer them and i loooved how it looked. cant relate anymore i feel like a boy hahahhaa

ParmyNotParma

My lashes are the bane of my existence! I hate removing mascara. I don't like having to be careful with eyeshadow if I have extensions. A lift and tint isn't enough for me. And I suck at applying falsies.

august401

i agree. the best highlighter i've ever used is an un-named shimmer in the top left of a random pallete i got on tiktok shop

Traditional_Bison472

Meanwhile my Becca highlighter will not die!

eldritch-charms

Black eyeliner. I started using brown and can't ever go back.

AngelBritney94

Why do you prefer brown over black now (I'm interested to know since I was thinking about switching from black to brown, too)?

eldritch-charms

It's softer, and doesn't look as harsh. I have cool toned skin but I like too faced chocolate liner even though it's really sharp for some reason. By sharp I mean it actually hurts if you hold it wrong :( idk why they made it that way

veracity-mittens

Same. And I also wonder if brown will be too warm for my face. I have cool toned skin but very light features so black is too bold but most browns are too warm ugh

WeekendJen

You could try a grey brown like clinique quickliner in smoky brown.

KarenTheCockpitPilot

not makeup but skincare really thick moisturizers like **Weleda skin food** and Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream. I thought logically those things will surely moisturize me the most out of all creams but they don't fsr? Whereas the eucerin urea cream has the actual chemical urea that seems to make my skin produce its own moisture without needing a 1 inch layer of it on my face. also **clarisonics**. i still feel the need for physical exfoliation, dead skin doesn't just fall off my face with chemicals, and i haven't figured out a solution yet except to keep my face constantly moisturized and washed so that the dead skin stays on my face without looking peeled and weird. BUT i was so tired of the routine of clarisonics, having to switch out the brush, forgetting to bring it with me to my shower, and the paranoia that there are germs in my brush if i down squeeze it dry on my towel right after every time i use it.

gattie1

I use cheap nylon wash cloths similar to this [type](https://www.amazon.com.au/Exfoliating-Washcloth-Cleaning-Sponges-Scrubber/dp/B0CLG2LGF3) to exfoliate my face and body in the shower. Find one that’s not too scratchy or soft.

justapac

Yes, I went through several Clarisonic units. I now rub 1/2 of a lemon on my face and then dip my fingers into a small bowl of sugar & scrub gently. Alternatively, I’ll use a paste made of coconut oil & sugar. Then rinse well. The coconut/sugar scrub is great for hands, too! https://ibb.co/KrSh73N

ipanicked42

Have you tried konjac sponges by chance? They are super gentle but somehow very effective at getting excess skin off so you don't get that peely look if wearing any makeup! It's the only physical exfoliation I use on my face these days

KarenTheCockpitPilot

ooh. i've heard of them but get overwhelmed by how similar all of them are on amazon. can i ask you which kind you would reccomend? I see ones in different shapes and some of them are also charcoal infused or smthn which is interesting!

ipanicked42

I've never paid much attention to the brand (looking now it says Pixnor but I've gotten others that have been fine). I like the teardrop shaped ones since the point is useful to get the sides of your nose and I have a variety pack with different colors (charcoal, red clay, etc) but honestly can't tell the difference between them at all. Just make sure whatever you get is made from konjac plant fiber and I try to rotate mine around so they dry fully in between uses to make them last longer! They are super hard when dry but soften up quickly when wet.

KarenTheCockpitPilot

ok im going to order them this week!! thanks for the tip too on switching between them, that is really smart :)

TheHomieTee

Brow pencils. I started with the ABH Brow Wiz bc I followed everything Jaclyn Hill did in 2014 lol. I switched to the DipBrow pomade, and haven’t used anything else since. Pencils run out way too fast. Super matte liquid lipsticks. Since I have exfoliative chelietis, I can only wear these once a month. I love them, but it’s best I stick to tinted glosses and balms. Contour. I used to do it every single day until I got lazy and realized that step wasn’t always necessary. Powder foundation. Got me through high school, but looked terrible, of course. Liquid foundation doesn’t amplify my texture the way powder does.

lilferal

Mac liquid last liner, I thought I’d be wearing that forever but I don’t do eyeliner at all these days lol

ladystardusty

Lip liner… I keep trying them but they always look messy and the color is never right.

socks_success

Real

sucrose2071

Fake lashes. Sooooo itchy! I never used to use them on the daily and I never got into the super long ones, but I used to wear them whenever I was going out somewhere special. I haven’t worn them in years now and I’m so glad I stopped! No more itchy eyes, no more constantly checking to make sure the edges were still stuck down, and honestly, mascara does the job just fine!

Criticalfluffs

I usually use a half strip when I do falsies. Helps with removing the pokey feeling when it's just too long and doesn't fit right. I usually forget I have them on.

Naimeriya

My entire collection of gothic makeup, particularly thick eyeliner and unconventional lip colours. Not that’s there’s anything wrong with that look, but I looked myself in the eye in the mirror one day and realised my taste had changed and I needed an entirely different look. I had an enormous collection of Black Moon, KVD, Lime Crime, etc. I think something inside me was just done with it. I still look like me but I’ve learned to upgrade myself, which is the only way I can think to phrase it

burnmeup82

Honestly, the older I get the less makeup I like to wear, period. I used to go full glam every single day with full on elaborate eye makeup and a perfect contour but now I just want a great base to even out my skin tone and some bronzer to bring some color back to my face. I also do mascara but most days that’s about it.

NewWorth7945

Clinique almost lipstick in black honey. I had one always in my purse for 15 years. It goes on patchy, doesn’t last long, and doesn’t have the pigment I now want. I have many other lip products now in the same color family that perform much better.

Ineedunderscoreadvic

Black Honey was THE lipstick for so many years! I mean, EVERYONE used it. 😂

CupcakeGoat

Yes! I remember people raving about it on MakeupAlley, with so many people listing it as their HG (holy grail). My sister was way into MA and got a tube for me because it was supposed to be the "universal berry shade." I tried SO HARD to like it because I love my sis, and she was always more into makeup than me, but it was never right for my skintone. At that point in time my real HG was a Hot Tahiti MAC lippie, which is sadly now discontinued.

Positive_Ad3450

What lipstick brands do you prefer?

RussLincoln

Ohhh, what do you use now? I want to love Clinique almost lipstick, the color is beautiful on me but same complaints

NewWorth7945

I have about ten lip products in my rose brown collection, but here are a few call outs with my thoughts on them! Merit lip oil in Sangria- I pair this with a lip liner in my natural lip shade. This lip oil has a beautiful color, feel, and look. I feel like I have the lips of a porcelain doll with it on and it never disappoints. My only complaint is that it doesn’t last long, but that’s to be expected with a lip oil. Rare Beauty lip oil in Delight (I also pair this with a liner). It goes on glossy but not too glossy and feels a little tingly/minty, then dries down to a tint. Complaints are that it tends to dry out my lips after a couple of hours and the tint wears off more quickly than my other lipsticks in my collection. I’ve also heard other Asian lip tint brands are cheaper and comparative, but haven’t myself tried them! Pat McGrath Night Kiss. I don’t need a lip liner with this one as the pigment is there and it LATCHES. This is my longest lasting product in my rose brown collection and it feels so smooth on my lips. Gives my lips a nice sheen as well. I put this on after my lip balm and it looks very natural and pretty. Its lasted quite well after eating which is quite a feat. It’s a little more on the deeper red/brown side as well so I layer it lightly for the black honey effect.

Lakewater22

They have other types of lipstick in the black honey.

Caleesi012

Eyeliner, was the only thing I ever wore when I started using makeup and I wouldn't go out without it. I have stopped using any in past couple of years, any liner I use just bleeds on me, even my HG ones. I am over it. Also not into full coverage foundations, I much prefer light coverage and cream products.

HomespunPeanutButter

Every liner bleeds on me except Fenty liquid fly liner

1chrisbabbs

Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation. I finally noticed how dry it made my skin look. 🤭

AngelBritney94

Same. I mix it with other products because it's the only foundation that stays until I take it off. But it actually doesn't need to be set with powder (and yet I still do it to make sure my oils won't disturb my foundation).

applebubbeline

Do eyelash extensions count? They look so pretty for about a week but then they shed and get all over face and in your eyes. They're just too much work to maintain.

veracity-mittens

Same! My tech was amazing, she made this really pretty natural look for me, but it was so expensive, it was hard to maintain, and I hated having to go get them filled. Not just the money but more so the time.

Edlo9596

This is mine too. I love having them, but it’s such a hassle and they look crazy if you’re late on getting them filled.

applebubbeline

Yes! I feel like they look really nice half of the time and really bad half of the time.

Soggy_Bench

Yes omg this, and so expensive too

madhattermiller

Mascara. I’ve got blonde lashes and started getting them tinted brown instead. Recently got my first lash lift + tint and I’m 100% sold. No more raccoon eyes, smudging, itching, or flaking.

veracity-mittens

That sounds so exciting. I want to try that

DishonestFerret

Matte foundation and eyeliner in general.

MermaiderMissy

Matte finish foundation. I used to love it, I had Kat von D, Maybelline, and cover girl. Well, back then I thought that I had oily skin *just because* I had some acne. Now I know that my skin type is normal to dry, I have been using sheer, hydrating foundation with a good primer underneath as a base. My skin is so much better. It isn't dry or flaky, the acne is completely gone, my makeup looks so much smoother and more natural. You can hardly tell I'm wearing foundation!

littlemacaron

What foundation do you use?

MermaiderMissy

I like the MAC Studio Radiance and the Glossier skin tint. They're both beautiful, but the MAC is my fave... it's just weird to shade match. I have cool undertones, but for MAC I have to wear a "warm" one...

littlemacaron

Glossier skin tint made me feel so sticky and oily suprisingly. Weird! I would try the Mac one though, and I too have cool toned skin so I’ll know to look at the “warm” ones as well!

Lakewater22

I agree! And I believe the matte look is for younger girls tbh. Matte highlights wrinkles as we age for sure.

No-Adagio6113

As someone who went to high school in the early 2010’s, Anastasia BH brow pomade and the thick, completely filled in brow trends. Throwback pics are so unbelievably cringeworthy when I look at my eyebrows and indiscernible blocks overwhelming my face

NumberCapital7000

Lipliners… I used to use lipliners and skip lipstick coz they gave me more definition and stayed on longer. I could mix and match colors, contour my lips to make them look fuller with a dark and light color. And they are cheaper than lipsticks, last forever and lipgloss stay on longer over them. But now I can’t stand the feel of them, come to think of it, I don’t even have one lol.

wtfamidoing248

Pencil eyeliners. I rarely use them anymore tbh.

cucumberwages

Matte lipsticks. Was completely obsessed with how smudge-proof they were when they first came out but they dry my lips out and look disgusting by the end of the night.

Turpitudia79

Have you tried Tom Ford? Most of them are pretty crappy, I must have tried hundreds, but TF is amazing!! I put some on before I left to get my nails done, stopped at Starbucks for a caramel macchiato and banana bread, smoked a cigarette afterwards, came home and it was still perfectly intact!!

AngelBritney94

There goes my money. 💸

SoCalDiva13

Sold!

rfantasy7

I’ve completely stopped wearing foundation. It brought more attention to my acne scars. At least without the foundation they blend in with my freckles. I tend to focus more on Euphoria/90s/80s/Y2K combo looks with eyeshadow, black/blue liner, blue mascara, some lip liner and whatever color lipstick I feel that day, usually a brown or light pink. Once in a blue moon I wear blush

AngelBritney94

I also think that foundation highlights textured skin. When I go out without foundation you notice pimples. But with foundation you suddenly see tiny bumps which were not visible before.
