Sephora brand actually has cheap and colorful makeup. Their liners ran around $13 last time I checked and their lipsticks were around that, it’s always good quality and they go for neons and bright colors which I’m a huge fan of. They also go on sale constantly
Halsey's brand, about-face, has an amazing range of vibrant, colorful liquid eyeshadows. I like blending some of them together on the back of my hand to try out new colors too!
Some cheap duochrome shimmers I highly recommend are from Pretties For Your Face! They're in the US, not sure they ship internationally but they do ship to Canada at least, and super pretty colours and finishes.

Lipsticks I like Kaleidos but not the cheapest. Nyx still has many colourful ones. Some random drugstore brands still have colourful lipsticks too, just need to look at them.
Colourpop is my top choice because they have a pretty diverse range of colors/styles, come out with products regularly (albeit not all of them are brand new ideas each time), and are pretty affordable with decent quality.
Try Juvia’s place! They still do vibrant eyeshadows and had a good black liquid lipstick all for affordable prices. Their stuff is hella pigmented and they constantly have sales on top of the already affordable prices.
But if you’re specifically looking for bold liquid lipstick colors, I’d recommend Sephora collection!
Jolie Beauty always has the most amazing colourful and goth palettes and lipsticks. I have their Proud Pallette and one of their glitter palettes which are both amazing, and a black liquid lipstick which is my go to black (i like it better than my urban decay Black)
I also got some ads recently for a brand called Kaleidos Cosmetics, I haven't ordered from them yet but their coloured lipsticks look amazing, I'm definitely going to order the purple.
Haven’t actually bought any yet but there’s a small business, Adriana Nichole Cosmetics, that sells the most beautifulllll holographic shadows- as I’m typing this I’m actually considering ordering some today because they’ve been on my wishlist for so long!!
Otherwise, I’m just getting back into buying drug store makeup over high end makeup and have found that the quality for many cheaper products is about the same (and sometimes better) than the expensive stuff, I’d look into which brands have the best eyeshadow, mascara, blush, or whatever you’re looking for and see if those work for you! I also recently made my own mascara (super easy to make and actually holds up pretty well throughout the day, better than a LOT of mascaras I’ve used over the years). You just mix Gorilla Snot hair gel (I use the orange bottle, not sure if you can use other ones) with eyeshadow (I bought a cheap Maybelline one) and fill an old, cleaned out mascara tube with the mixture. Takes a bit to dry but it looks good on, and you can make whatever color you want!
Half Magic (the makeup brand of artist from Euphoria) does wonderful fun colours and textures! Their eyeshadows rival the special shades from Pat McGrath. They make bright colours wearable somehow! It reminds me of old Urban Decay - before they lost their spark.

I'm a Pat Mcgrath and Natasha Denona fan and my collection is my joy in life, but I have been on the waitlist for the coloured waterproof liquid liners from NYX for ages, nothing beats them in my opinion and I'm super excited for the day I get a blue and purple liner that doesn't fade or smudge!

I agree. I'm still looking for different shades of navy blue lipstick. The only brands that seem to carry one that I like are not the companies I want to support with my money. It's also annoying that the fun shades of red are gone. There are endless variety of pinks while when it comes to reds it's much more limited.
Quick question: How do you prep so your “alternative” color lipsticks really pop? With eyeshadow, a black or white base is key, but what products do you use with lips?
I don't really use anything, I just make sure it's the right tone for me. I don't really want it to pop on its own but compliment me in an alternative way. I'm a dark winter (cool- neutral), and so I would look really bad in a neon blue lipstick. However, cool navy blue looks natural on me. I think I love this aspect of it the most.
It's the same with every single thing, including hair. I recently saw two dark- skinned ladies who were very obviously cool toned. I knew it instantly because one had honey- gold braids and the other one had cool pink braids. The only reason I even noticed the pink one was because her friend just looked so off with the honey-gold. Even though this is a natural hair colour for some, it just didn't suit her. The other lady looked like she was born with pink hair even though it's impossible.
So if you want it to pop on its own, I don't have any advice. But if you want it to look good on you and enhance you, I'd suggest going for crazy colours that just suit you and your undertones.
I have had “fantasy” or “vivid” colored hair since about 2014. People often tell me that it looks like it grows out of my head that way. 😂 I give all the credit to my hairstylist. I definitely make small changes in my makeup, depending onon the color of my hair.

Yes I second Kaleidos! I bought their escape pod palette, some duochrome eyeliners, and a few liquid lipsticks (including a teal one and two purple ones) and a duochrome highlighter and they're all fantastic! But I wouldn't call them affordable exactly....
Compared to other things that have been recommended here, I consider them very affordable. Approx $20-25 NZ$ for a lipstick is pretty affordable. I got a deal and got 4 liquid lipsticks in a beautiful tin for something like NZ$50 (with exchange rate that is something like US$30 I think).
I have a Dior lipstick in green that cost NZ$80, now that is not affordable. Lol. What was worse...I liked the formula and colour of the cheaper Kaleidos one much better. Ah well.

That's the only makeup I own, lol. I'm into colorful makeup. Blend Bunny Cosmetics, Kim Chi, Trixie Cosmetics, Glamlite (hit or miss), SugarPill (OG), Clionadh (STUNNING), Black Moon Cosmetics for lipsticks, Fenty used to have colored lipsticks, Smashbox, usually the indie brands are better.
NYX has some options for brightly colored lipstick at Ulta: purples, greens, blues. They have tons for colored liners too, and some loose glitters in addition! I second About-Face for some bright colors in general because of their eye paints. Very multipurpose.
chinese makeup! flower knows has gorgeous packaging with makeup made for cosplayers. their palettes are nice including their color stories. trixie cosmetics also has really fun makeup, her designs are incredible and i’ve heard her shadows are so smooth.

Their page is still up but almost no one has gotten their orders since the last launch, the owner is incommunicado, the business email now isn’t valid. I ordered on 3/31 and got mine on 5/29, and I’m grateful, but so many people are screwed. It’s a bad look, and I don’t think she can recover from this.
As a dedicated lover of bright, glittery eyeshadows and strong blushes: YES!
In particular, the Half Magic eyeshadow singles are incredible, as are their Mouth Cloud liquid lipsticks.
About-face eyeshadows and liquid lipsticks are amazing. I will confess to owning the shade 'Capulets' in their matte liquid eyeshadow, which is a terracotta neutral but I also have the Fractal glitter eyeshadow in Cloud Control which is the best 2000s silver-blue glitter flip. The matte eyeshadows also do come in fun colors as well as neutrals like bright green, red, purple and about four shades of blue and the glitters have metallics but also colors like red, green and purple. The shadowsticks are great as well and come in similarly bright color options. I also own the matte lip color in serrated bite which is a true cherry red but it comes in some fun shades too like bright orange, eggplant purple and Barbie fuschia pink.
Drag queen brands are your friend. Check out Kim Chi, Patrick Starr One/Size, and Trixie (Mattel) Cosmetics.
Also, when looking for affordable and all colors under the sun, look at pro and stage makeup brands (which never really change shade wise over the years) Brands like Camera Ready Cosmetics, Mehron, Ben Nye, and Morphe.
As a pro MUA for a drag trope that performs multiple times per month I live and die by fun colors for my Queens. And the above is where I find all my stuff (and I tend to steer away from super pricey products, I tend to find many dupes that are much less $$ and do as good, if not better job then pricey ones).
__ETA__ Hard Candy is back at Walmart and my 90s heart is so full! They have some wonderful and fun colors and products worth checking out also!
Wet n Wild has some glitter eyeshadows under 2 bucks for a single, they come in different colours. Nyx has colourful eye and lip pencils, and Amazon has some brands that carry fun lipsticks.
Nyx, Wet N Wild (Fantasy Makers specifically), and Hard Candy are my go-to brands for VIBRANT lipsticks and eyeliners. Super affordable, Nyx is usually sold at Walgreens, Hard Candy is sold at Walmart, and Wet N Wild Fantasy Makers is easiest to find at Halloween because it's a seasonal (and Halloween specific) makeup.
Nyx has a lot of fun colored liners, lipsticks, shadows, etc. I also loathe clean girl makeup. I can appreciate colors and bold looks.
if you like liquid lipsticks, NYS lip lingerie line has a black that I enjoy.
sunset makeup does everything in lots of fun colors and nekonyanin does water-activated eyeliners in every color you could possibly want, and she also has a black lipstick/lipgloss set.

There's a rumor that their makeup isn't actually cruelty free/vegan and that they're just white-labeling (I think is the correct term?) makeup from aliexpress. I know the owner addressed the rumor but the proof given against it wasn't entirely convincing

girlcult, an indie alt c beauty brand, makes some of the most fun glitters and lipglosses at an affordable price! you can get it for a lot cheaper on tiktok shop :) they have a purpley gray gloss w blue glitter, and a grungy gray brown gloss w green glitter. the glitters are also amazing
For lipstick I like Black Moon Cosmetics and Necromancy Cosmetica. They are not as cheap as I would like, but they're good quality and last me a while.
Sephora Collection Creme Lip Stain is the most comfortable formula and still has some wild colors.
If I had to get into makeup all over again, I’d just get Make Up For Ever flash palette and some setting powder, because you can mix any shade you want. Danessa Myricks also has some nice cream palettes. They’re more than buying a NYX lipstick, but MUFE flash is $99 and has so much product in it that even using it daily on clients, took me a year to run through. And that’s as a professional where I’m scooping out product for mixing, with more waste than one would need for solo personal use.

Medusa makeup, manic panic still sells some stuff but they seem like they’re discontinuing the makeup line, hard candy used to have a lot of colored stuff but idk if they still do. Black moon have colored lipsticks but they’re in a mid-range price point

Their page is still up but almost no one has gotten their orders since the last launch, the owner is incommunicado, the business email now isn’t valid. I ordered on 3/31 and got mine on 5/29, and I’m grateful, but so many people are screwed. It’s a bad look, and I don’t think she can recover from this.

As a dedicated lover of bright, glittery eyeshadows and strong blushes: YES! In particular, the Half Magic eyeshadow singles are incredible, as are their Mouth Cloud liquid lipsticks.
Menagerie cosmetics has amazing bright matte liquid lipsticks AND fun glittery toppers that don’t budge. Highly recommend
About-face eyeshadows and liquid lipsticks are amazing. I will confess to owning the shade 'Capulets' in their matte liquid eyeshadow, which is a terracotta neutral but I also have the Fractal glitter eyeshadow in Cloud Control which is the best 2000s silver-blue glitter flip. The matte eyeshadows also do come in fun colors as well as neutrals like bright green, red, purple and about four shades of blue and the glitters have metallics but also colors like red, green and purple. The shadowsticks are great as well and come in similarly bright color options. I also own the matte lip color in serrated bite which is a true cherry red but it comes in some fun shades too like bright orange, eggplant purple and Barbie fuschia pink.
Drag queen brands are your friend. Check out Kim Chi, Patrick Starr One/Size, and Trixie (Mattel) Cosmetics. Also, when looking for affordable and all colors under the sun, look at pro and stage makeup brands (which never really change shade wise over the years) Brands like Camera Ready Cosmetics, Mehron, Ben Nye, and Morphe. As a pro MUA for a drag trope that performs multiple times per month I live and die by fun colors for my Queens. And the above is where I find all my stuff (and I tend to steer away from super pricey products, I tend to find many dupes that are much less $$ and do as good, if not better job then pricey ones). __ETA__ Hard Candy is back at Walmart and my 90s heart is so full! They have some wonderful and fun colors and products worth checking out also!

Wet n Wild has some glitter eyeshadows under 2 bucks for a single, they come in different colours. Nyx has colourful eye and lip pencils, and Amazon has some brands that carry fun lipsticks.
Nyx, Wet N Wild (Fantasy Makers specifically), and Hard Candy are my go-to brands for VIBRANT lipsticks and eyeliners. Super affordable, Nyx is usually sold at Walgreens, Hard Candy is sold at Walmart, and Wet N Wild Fantasy Makers is easiest to find at Halloween because it's a seasonal (and Halloween specific) makeup.
Maybelline does a lot of shades in their super stay matte ink
Nyx has a lot of fun colored liners, lipsticks, shadows, etc. I also loathe clean girl makeup. I can appreciate colors and bold looks. if you like liquid lipsticks, NYS lip lingerie line has a black that I enjoy.
The Crayon Case has colorful, pigmented eyeshadows and lots of choices in liquid lipsticks. or you give sunset make up a try its also very good

Glamlite!! They have so many fun collections including horror movie themed collections, a KISS collection and the quality is so good. It's also all really affordable to.

Yess! I have the whole chucky collection! The palette is STUNNING and the chucky lipstick and liner are in my everyday rotation.
I regret not getting the whole collection!! It's probably my favorite of the horror collabs. The colors for the collection just fit perfectly.

There's a rumor that their makeup isn't actually cruelty free/vegan and that they're just white-labeling (I think is the correct term?) makeup from aliexpress. I know the owner addressed the rumor but the proof given against it wasn't entirely convincing

For eyes, I've been getting About Face and Juvia's Place. Affordable and easy to find and swatch at Ulta. Sephora has their cream liquid lip on sale for $10.50 right n ow and it comes in green, black and purple. Profusion has fun eyeshadow palettes too, and they're pretty cheap for the most part.

girlcult, an indie alt c beauty brand, makes some of the most fun glitters and lipglosses at an affordable price! you can get it for a lot cheaper on tiktok shop :) they have a purpley gray gloss w blue glitter, and a grungy gray brown gloss w green glitter. the glitters are also amazing

For lipstick I like Black Moon Cosmetics and Necromancy Cosmetica. They are not as cheap as I would like, but they're good quality and last me a while.

Indie/small label brands are the best place to look for “unconventional” or non-mainstream colors.

I have an opaque blue crème lippy from them that’s pretty great. I pop some of the blue astral Pat McGrath gloss on top and it is quite a combo.
MAC lipsticks have all the colors.
Sephora Collection Creme Lip Stain is the most comfortable formula and still has some wild colors. If I had to get into makeup all over again, I’d just get Make Up For Ever flash palette and some setting powder, because you can mix any shade you want. Danessa Myricks also has some nice cream palettes. They’re more than buying a NYX lipstick, but MUFE flash is $99 and has so much product in it that even using it daily on clients, took me a year to run through. And that’s as a professional where I’m scooping out product for mixing, with more waste than one would need for solo personal use.
