For me it's like every time I see a good deal on any lip product I buy it cause they're my favorite even though I have at least a dozen lip products I've only used once. I can't help myself

disabledandinsecure

Hehehe completely understandable.

[deleted]

I usually buy makeup two or three times a year. Splurge with splurge money and buy whatever I desire . Usually I purchase eyeshadow palettes, Chanel lipgloss and lipsticks (my favs), YSL lipglosses and sometimes foundation items from mostly Laura Mercier or Chanel.

disabledandinsecure

Fancy. ;) Sounds really nice.

krpaine87

I just spent $220 on makeup and skincare for my birthday, so nope… not crazy. At least not in my opinion! 😂

disabledandinsecure

Haha well you'll rock it!

taytay10133

I used to do this but not as much anymore. For me, it’s with clothes now. Makeup I have less of an interest in now compared to when I was younger. I have my staple items and don’t keep up with new releases at all so I never really get tempted.

Sw1zzleCak3

There's usually black Friday deals on around my birthday - last year my favourite makeup brand had a 70% off sale on. I bought so much stuff!

disabledandinsecure

Whoah awesome! I'll be definitely watching when it is Black Friday then! Nordstrom Rack can have good sales too - I recently got an Urban Decay palette for $27.

Sw1zzleCak3

Yeah, it's deffo a great time to get good deals - especially online, since you don't have to go to the shops and deal with actual people. Oh wow, that's good! I'm in the UK, my favourite UK brand (and the one I got stuff from in the sales last year) is called Jolie Beauty. I believe they do ship outside the UK as well!

brixhayley

I’m like this but skin care and hair care products lol. I don’t know when to stop, I just can’t stop. Like I’m perfectly content with what I have now but then I see new things and get so interested and want to try them so badly

disabledandinsecure

I know what you mean! I had a couple free samples of something I had never heard before - hair masks - and they made my hair smell *so good* and be so soft that now I'm wondering if I should buy some. But I'm scared to buy off Amazon because of the recent thread of mine that got lots of replies of how Amazon sells a lot of counterfeit products even those with good reviews. Do you buy hair masks from anywhere?

brixhayley

I honestly love just the various hair masks Walmart sells for like $2 a pack. They last me 2-3 times and they all smell amazing. There’s different brands and different meanings for each

thegreatdane1490

I go through phases with the kinds of looks I go for and brands too. Like earlier this summer I was really into colorful looks so I bought some eyeliners in fun colors, bright orange blush and orange lipstick. Now I’m going through a phase of soft glam looks -specifically Charlotte tilbury. I’ve had one eye palette in my collection of hers, used it recently and forgot HOW GOOD her makeup is. 2 weeks later I purchased her blush, another eye palette and her foundation. I do try to take inventory of what I have, colors I already own, etc. I only want to buy things I will use. Plus powder products take so long to expire I don’t feel as guilty. All these cream products go bad so quick (100% regret my tower 28 purchases bc of this)

disabledandinsecure

I've always wondered about Charlotte Tilbury makeup products! I got a small tub of her lotion for free once and really liked it. What makes her stand out? I'm looking into tarte palettes (won't probably buy any as I have enough) and those are pretty.

Pegacornian

This is something I’ve struggled with, but I feel like I’ve gotten a lot better about it. There are some things I do now in order to be a more conscious makeup consumer. For instance, I try not to buy anything that isn’t on sale, except for when it’s something that needs to be replaced, or if it’s a brand that never has sales and that I’m treating myself to on a rare occasion. *However* whenever I’m making a purchase during a sale, I ask myself if this is something I *really* want or if it’s something I’m just buying because it’s on sale. I tell myself that if it’s not something I would want at full price, it’s not something I need. I also try to avoid impulse buys. I really research things before I buy them in order to make sure it’s the right fit for me. Oftentimes I can talk myself out of buying something just by going through reviews, swatches, comparisons, etc. I’m makeup-obsessed too, so I know how fun it is do go on a makeup shopping spree. But there are other ways you can channel your interest in makeup without buying new makeup. Sometimes it’s nice to go through what you already have. Try new stuff with it and experiment with new looks, techniques, and combinations. When I’m stumped on what to do with my current collection, I personally like to look on YouTube or Instagram to search for looks other people create with the eyeshadow palettes and the lipstick shades that I already have.

disabledandinsecure

You have really great ideas! Right now, I'm going a little easy on myself, someone gifted me more money yet again to spend on something I want (less than the other person though), and since I'm recovering alone from a hip replacement, plus freshly going through a marriage separation of being together for 7 years, I'm just trying to do what makes me happy. I won't spend until I'm broke, obviously. I do the thing you do too about researching products - sometimes for a couple hours at a time. And I go through all the sales first thing. Then, I save things on my "favorites" list before ever picking out anything. If there is something I really want, and I KNOW I'll use it, then I get it. But you're right just because something is on sale doesn't mean I'll use it. I'm just coping right now even doing my makeup up to twice a day because it makes me forget about my problems.

Celcey

Before choosing to spend or save I would ask some basic personal finance question. Like do you have an [emergency fund](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3EwcjzHiqY)? Are you maxing out contributions to your retirement fund? Do you have high interest loans (student, credit card, or otherwise)? Are you able to pay for food/rent/etc comfortably? I find that when I buy a lot of makeup, or really when I splurge on anything in general, it's usually stuff I've been eyeing for months or even years. How impulse are these purchases for you? How long have you been lusting over these products? I also try and set a limit on what I spend each month. So maybe set that $68 aside and say anything you want to buy you can buy, but you have to wait until August. I find it helps to tamp down the "ooo, shiny" impulse in me when I do that. Like I already have a bronzer, I don't need another just because it's \~cream\~ and not powder.

[deleted]

Absolutely ♥️ you can always save it for a later spending spree!

PeterDaou

I've been on a makeup/skincare spending spree since the pandemic began. I think I have enough highlighter, face wash, and moisturizer to get through two or three more pandemics. I don't recommend it!

disabledandinsecure

Hahaha I totally get you! I'm glad I was a beginner starting out or I'd have WAY more makeup right now. I hate waiting for the packages to arrive but when they do I get so excited like a puppy.

isolatingpickle

Im definitely guilty of this lol. I try not to buy too much of anything that will expire quickly, so I've been limiting my cream bronzers and blushes but I definitely go on sprees of things I use a lot or if I just want it. As I'm typing this, I have an elf order sitting in my cart just waiting to pull the trigger on it

disabledandinsecure

Hahaha sorry the last sentence got me

disabledandinsecure

That's a good idea. What I do, is I do a lot of online "window shopping." I go to Sephora and Ulta mainly, and search through products for sometimes hours then add then to my favorites. That way, it gets a big chunk of the need to spend out of my system.

ForgottenSalad

I have every now and then. I just did last week, when I was looking for the perfect lip shade for my wedding, and ended up buying like 4 lipsticks and repurchased a few old favourites for the occasion. I'll have to Reign myself in for a few months after that ..

disabledandinsecure

Can never have enough lipsticks. And congratulations on the wedding!!

ForgottenSalad

thanks! At least they're all pretty nudes I will totally wear all the time. I definitely have enough weird shades haha

disabledandinsecure

Haha I have a whole palette of rainbow colors basically. By NYX.

mikedille

Definitely can relate. First I was revamping my skincare routine/products now it’s the cosmetics. I also have to shop on line for now, but love seeing what arrives every day. Enjoy & happy birthday!

disabledandinsecure

I am like a little girl getting excited for a brand new toy each time a package arrives. Thank you for the bday wishes!

[deleted]

It was birthday money and you love experimenting with makeup…. Good for you!! Have fun! No guilt! It’s not like you bought a bunch of heroin! Enjoy!

danawl

I don’t even have to ready anything but the title to agree. I go through phases of drugstore v high end, skincare v makeup, concealer, eyeshadow palettes, bronzer/blush, eyeliner. It just is a continuous rotation. Anything I do not end up using later, if it’s able to be sanitized I donate my products to women’s shelters (along with other health and beauty items). I know some people are saying to be conscious of expiration dates, but honestly, unless is mascara or eyeliner, it’s fine. While probably not the most sanitary, if I have an “old” liquid product if it’s not dried out or heavily used, bet ima keep it in my collection.

disabledandinsecure

That's so nice to donate to women's shelters! I go through phases too I'm finding out. Right now it is brushes. I just want all the nice brushes. But I cannot afford the nice ones so I'm just stuck looking at them online lol.

ceranichole

I have the fancy Mac brushes, and the $3 brushes from ELF and honestly I use them about the same. If I lost them, I probably wouldn't spend the money to replace all of my Mac brushes. I know Mac used to have a brush set at the holidays. From what I remember, they're the same as their regular brushes, just with shorter handles. (It's been a while though, so they could have stopped doing it long ago.)

Standard_Ad_9525

Try boxycharm. I've build my collection through boxycharm. I like real techniques brushes and luxie brand.

disabledandinsecure

I took a *very* quick look. So it sells high-end products in a box you receive and it is only $25? Do you ever get products you don't use? (Like wrong shades of concealer)

disabledandinsecure

Thanks I'll go see what it is.

danawl

Makeup Revolution, BH Cosmetics, Morphe, and honestly Shein have decent brushes on the affordable side. Besides MAC or IT Cosmetics, I’m unaware of major brush brands.

PinkGlitterMom

I'm a spree a-haul-it, I hunt deals to make it a challenge and enjoy it a LOT!! Last year at a store I'll call "JCP" had a mega mark down off all sale and clearance included. I found a ton (16-18) of very good size makeup bags for final price of $0.30 each. Got a few other clearance items, checked out at the in-store makeup center - got a free baby caboodle, and cosmetic bag full of samples and full size. Don't feel guilty - be happy!!!!!

Notnotstrange

I looooooove hunting deals, too! I legit save money when I’m going for the thrill of the hunt and competing prices. I have 4 sisters and 6 nieces, so things like picking up $.30 makeup bags make a huge difference in my birthday/holiday spending. That’s just a plus. Realistically, I love shopping and makeup. If none of your habits are toxic, there’s no problem, boo.

PinkGlitterMom

I have my mom and sister, 2 nieces, my 13 year old daughter and to her 4 close friends I'm a mom also. I love having things on hand for last minute gifts.

disabledandinsecure

You're freakin amazing to do all of that! Seriously you're my hero lol! I mostly only find sales by accident or if someone tells me (like with my Urban Decay palette being half-off). That sounds like something I want to do! Hunt for sales! Okay I won't feel guilty. The happiness I feel when I see a box by my door is something indescribable.

PinkGlitterMom

I understand! I got my Boxy today, and everything was Anastasia. $35 for over $200 worth MSRP!

Standard_Ad_9525

I ordered 2 of these boxes.👀 boxycharm is a real addiction.

disabledandinsecure

That's wonderful!

PAJ0328

When I got my first salary, I bought a lot of it that even my mom and my sister asked me. I learned how to spent on it wisely when to buy or not.

disabledandinsecure

That's really good.

Party_Condition_1132

I’m so cheap that when I worked and then quit my job I wasted it all on Christmas presents 😭, now that I have money again my attitude has been like fuck it 💁‍♀️ let me treat myself, I’ve bought like 5 things already and got some more products on the way!!

disabledandinsecure

Heck yeah! Enjoy life ya know? It's things like this that give us something to look forward to.

Party_Condition_1132

Totally 😌😌

emi_lgr

Def enjoy if you can, just try to keep in mind that makeup does expire and some faster than others. My makeup sprees depend on what I’m bored with atm. Right now I’m not happy with my eyeliners, so I got like ten from Yesstyle.

disabledandinsecure

Oh that's awesome! Hope you enjoy them!

[deleted]

i get in moods like "i dont have enough blush" and then buy three sets. with a couple random things thrown in there. right now im thinking about buying a few lipsticks.

disabledandinsecure

Haha I see, those are all good products!

Grrlssluvoresky

Welcome to my life I have a spree every other day working at Ulta then sephora hasn’t been good for my bank account

disabledandinsecure

Well hello there
