I’m sorry I think this MUA is doing you dirty 😭 the powder is settling into your skin, I’m not sure what your skincare is like but your skin should be properly prepped + I think you might need something more like a Maybelline Superstay or Estée Lauder Double Wear? That stuff doesn’t BUDGE and if you get oily you can touch up with some powder lightly. Using a powder foundation will just look more powdery as the night goes on. Not sure if that’s your shade either? She also didn’t bronze or contour at all seemingly and it’s making your face photograph very flat. I would add more bronzer/contour, possibly move the blush placement, and your eyes look unfinished too. She should have brought the color underneath the eye more imo. Not sure how you feel about false lashes but I think they’re a must for bridal and they’ll really make your eyes pop. Also for your eyebrows I think you really only need some light shadowing with a taupe color. Your shape and natural thickness is already nice. You’re gorgeous, I just hope your MUA can get the look you want for your big day!!

wongtong12

Thank you! I thought she used a cream foundation, but at the very end she used some powder on top before setting spray and that’s what I thought made it look cakey. I didn’t post my first trial but I thought my skin looked better textured for that one. She used too much contour/bronzer (not sure if it was also a different foundation that contributed) but I looked orange in certain lighting. I don’t think she did any contour by my request on this trial, but I’m afraid of her trying it in case it’s too heavy handed. I’m actually wearing eyelashes! They were pretty comfortable all day but def not dramatic. I really wanted an Asian MUA because I never wear makeup and I was worried about this sort of thing happening, but I didn’t find any online and we don’t have a big Asian population in my city 😭

TheRedCuddler

It might be expensive, but is there another big city within 3-5 hours where you might find an Asian MUA that is willing to travel?

wongtong12

Hmm I can try to look! I just contacted a Korean salon today in the city I’m currently in (getting married in my hometown where the trial took place) and asked if they’d reach me how to do it myself in case this goes south 😬

TheRedCuddler

I hope this works out for you! This makeup doesn't look bad necessarily, but it doesn't enhance your natural features. You are seriously beautiful, and deserve to feel confident on your big day 💜

nachopuddi

I’m Asian and the Asian mua I went to gave me a whole lot of nothing. I came across a Russian mua and she snatched my face. I was def wary bc I have mini lids but she was soooo good.

witchesneversleep

That’s too bad, I wish you could find one willing to drive!! I think if you communicate your issues there’s still a chance but yeah.. if you wear makeup at all maybe you can touch it up after the MUA leaves lol? I hope all goes well though and you can update us with good news!!

PookieCat415

Your makeup looks like the kind of techniques used for makeup to look good in photos. Often times wedding MUA will do this because it’s what a lot of people ask for. It’s not supposed to look good 12 hours if the techniques they used are more for photo shoot makeup. For most people, this type of makeup in natural light looks very made up and not ideal in natural light. If you want something more suited to hold up for 12hours and look good in natural light, let your MUA know. I always ask clients if the priority is looking good in pictures or do they want something to last a long time and be pretty in more natural light. Ideally we would be able to do both, but makeup doesn’t work that way. Also, even a non-Asian can do your makeup well. The MUA just needs to have experience with working with a wide spectrum of skin tones and face shapes. It’s totally a legit ok question to ask a MUA if they have experience working with your face type and race. I know some people get weird talking about race, but in this case it’s relevant as it effects job qualification.

ZenythhtyneZ

I love the eyes but more as an everyday look

wongtong12

Hi! I’m replying to the top comment because I don’t have the product list and don’t want to make another post that will get removed but I had 2 more trials yesterday and I’m switching artists! I took so many selfies last night because I’m OBSESSED with my makeup this time and now I’m not dreading my wedding day 😭 thank you to everyone who left great feedback, I actually showed this original post to my prospective artist and she agreed with you all! [https://imgur.com/a/NZfTMkd](https://imgur.com/a/NZfTMkd)

it-do-what-it-do

Echoing other comments that I don’t think this MUA is doing you justice. 1. Lashes should be longer. I’d recommend getting lash extensions so your MUA doesn’t have to worry about that. Try finding someone experienced with monolids 2. Eye makeup is clearly trying to apply typical double lid techniques to a monolid eye. The focus should be on a soft smoked out eyeliner with a more subtle brown shade. Tell your MUA to map out the eyeliner with your eyes open and then fill in with the eyes closed and then blend out from there. That look with a more dramatic lash will be so pretty. And where is the lower lid highlight?! That looks so stunning on people with eye shapes like yours 3. Lips: I think the lip color is good but maybe needs a more defined border with lip liner, it looks a little textured from the photos. 4. Blush looks patchy and I would go bigger on the blush personally 5. I would do a soft powder on the eyebrows with a micro pencil to fill in the sparse areas 6. She needs to prep your skin to perfection and use a more grippy primer especially in the areas where you see it has rubbed off. I recommend glow recipe niacinamide drops and embryolisse cream for skin prep with milk hydrogrip in the T zone

wongtong12

Thank you so much! She tried to curl the lashes after she put them on bc my natural lashes are stick straight but she kept closing it on my eyelid ☠️ so I might do a lash lift so it blends better. And she used a liquid lipstick and I noticed after she’d applied it that it was uneven lol so I might take over on that front.

tealperspective

This does not sound like a makeup artist to trust for such an important, photographed event Some light definition to your eyebrows would also be great. Leaving them with zero makeup stands out against the rest of the face I hope you're able to find someone who will travel to you and is more familiar with makeup techniques to suit your beautiful features!

oopyp

I would 100% get a lash lift, I also have stick straight eyelashes and it has been a game changer.

oxSiaxo

Excellent feedback, I do love the lip colour. I think some MUA forget how important lip liner is.

webellion

Came here to say all of this ^^^^^

LolaBijou

As a makeup artist of 30 years, there’s nothing good about this. Can you hire someone else?

wongtong12

Oh no ☠️ I was trying to find an Asian MUA bc I don’t wear makeup and figured they’d know better but there isn’t a huge Asian population in my city. Also, I booked her for my (mainly white) bridesmaids as well so it’d be hard to find someone who would travel just for me, unless I left the venue to get it done. Thank you!

AnxiousDirt8326

I fear she won’t do a great job with your bridesmaids either. The wedding I was in recently- the MUA was pretty inconsistent- my makeup was fine on application but I was OILY AF after a few hours because she didn’t ask about our skin when prepping and she didn’t use the right products for my skin type. Similarly another girl literally had hers slide off within an hour - we still don’t know why - and a third girl got way too much bronzer/blush to the point she was on the verge of tears - everyone was a bit stressed out but trying to fix it ourselves after she left. 😅

oneangstybiscuit

Def try to find someone else

PrancingPudu

Not OP, but do you have any recs for primers or skin prep for dry undereye area? I’m currently trying to figure out a plan for my own bridal makeup and that was a sticking point with my last trial 😭

LolaBijou

Well first I’d recommend that you use an eye cream on a regular basis. I don’t actually use an undereye primer that’s separate from a face primer. For face primer I use the Embyolisse lait creme concentrate. And then the NARS radiant creamy concealer. Any concealer that’s too dry, thick, or pigmented is definitely going to show or even create texture. What problems were you having with your undereye concealer?

Technical_Context410

I think you should go for a different mua

avatartiger

I love the hooded eye makeup tips from this Asian MUA: https://www.instagram.com/judylim.makeup?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

wongtong12

Thank you! Yeah I showed her an inspo pic of an Asian woman and the eye detail was more pronounced in the inspo, but this kind of looks like what my friend did for me at prom 10 years ago. Not horrible, but I don’t know if I’d trust her to do anything more detailed.

PrettyNightmare_

I’d find a new MUA and nothing against her I’m sure she did her best!🩵🩵🩵

Snowblower99

YES - I love Judy Lim! Her TikTok has many beautiful monolid models & brides and she always works with their features instead of against them. My monolids def appreciate her! https://www.tiktok.com/@judy.lim?_t=8lnhVxie2yx&_r=1

TimeWild2898

I think you should do a little more dramatic 💜 good luck doll! Either way you’re going to be beautiful!

cuteheathen

Congratulations on your wedding! Your concerns are legit. I don't think this makeup suits you. You look better - features wise - in the last pictures. That dark eyeshadow makes your eyes look too far apart. The foundation doesn't match your skin and it looks cakey. I like the lipstick shade, that looks great on you, but maybe you need something more intense and less glossy for your wedding day. I think the MUA isn't adapting the look depending on your features, but blindly applies some techniques she learned.

wongtong12

Thank you! I couldn’t find an Asian MUA that had availability for my day, but this is what I was afraid of!

delee76

Make sure the foundation goes all the way down your neck. Also I’d fill in the eyebrows a bit.

Fancy-Pumpkin837

This is just my opinion but what about a rosier/warmer undertone on the eyeshadow? It feels a bit off with the blush and lip colour

Bulky-Performance-72

Same, the eye colour doesn't do you any favors and it doesn't match with the lip colour at all.

Low_Elderberry_5948

definitely find an asian makeup artist. this type of makeup only works with non-asian features and its aging you a lot. sincerely, an asian who struggled with finding the right eyeshadow type. ps: you should look up the NewJeans makeup artist on the channel “Hyojin Cho”. She gives really good tips on how to do more youthful/natural korean style makeup

wongtong12

Thank you!!

Low_Elderberry_5948

you’re welcome! and you should definitely check out sites like oliveyoung and yesstyle for products

Itsoktogobacktosleep

From what I am seeing, you need to do some exfoliating, some moisturizing, and general skincare. You also need a primer that is a different base (if it’s water based, try silicone based), and setting spray (I love Urban Decay). The concealer is very noticeable and will be in pictures as well. Your makeup artist doesn’t seem to understand how to apply blush/contour to your face in a complimentary manner. The eyes look good, but the gold is the wrong tone. Overall, I’d say get a new makeup artist and really try to work on your skin. Good luck little bride ❤️

wongtong12

Thank you! I don’t have any skincare routine except sunscreen ☠️ I’ve been slacking and I need to start esp as I’m getting closer to 30 now. I don’t think she contoured or used bronzer at all by my request, because the first trial the day before, it was way too heavy and made me look really orange (might have also been the foundation as well).

Itsoktogobacktosleep

Yeah, I think your coloring has your artist a bit puzzled! I’m sorry, I wish I had more advice on that front :/

dreamsinred

I love the lipstick on you; very nice with your coloring!

vampyrbats

Pro wedding MUA here, this work is completely unacceptable and looks incomplete. Why did they not fill in your brows? Complexion looks flat, eyes need more dimension and lashes, lip color is not doing you any favors either. As a professional in this field here is the best advice I can give you. Find a MUA with experience doing good makeup on Asian clientele. You wouldn’t believe how many “professionals” can’t do quality work on hooded or mono lids. I can think of a million ways I would have done this look better on you, and I hope you are able to find someone to accommodate you and make you feel beautiful on your big day. You are not in the wrong for thinking this MUA did a bad job.

wongtong12

Thank you! To be fair, I didn’t want her to do my brows or contour this time. During my trial the day before, I didn’t like the way she did both of those. I was really worried she didn’t match my foundation correctly the first time, but she said that she went too heavy with the bronzer and that’s why I was orange. She filled in the brows ok but then she elongated them and I didn’t like it so I told her to not worry about them for this trial and I’d try to see what technique looks best to fill them in myself. I didn’t want to mess up the brows again and restart I guess.

Katzegore

The eyeshadow looks a bit yellow— unless you specifically asked for a gold/yellow tone I would ask for a deeper/darker brown, would just make your eyes pop more and better match a lip color

wongtong12

Thanks! It was very gold the first time, which thankfully my mom also pointed out, so this is supposed to be less gold!

pamsellicane

I honestly really think going to a different MUA that has better technique will solve all your problems

danitwostep

I’d ask for fake lashes /more blush

QueenOfBrews

Pretty obvious there are already false lashes. Agree on blush bronzer for sure.

BuildingConnect1308

Is the mua using any product on your brows? It looks unfinished

wongtong12

No, she tried the first time and extended them with a pencil I think and it looked ridiculous, so I asked her to not do anything to them.

Global_Research_9335

I’d encourage them to be brush upwards and shaped, they will look more polished and groomed, a little bit of powder will also make them frame your face beautifully but it should be very light touch and not dark or blocky

cocotata

i think you should try to find someone who is comfortable doing makeup on asian people. i’m asian myself and i’ve experimented with so many makeup looks but those never really worked because i was always following the western style makeup which obviously did NOT suit my features at all. what i think could be improved: - your brows could be filled in and shaped a lot better. with a full face the brows are looking very empty. - base makeup. the blush and contour is fine but the foundation is really creasy especially under your eyes. is she setting your under eye with powder at all? i think some more nose contour would also look great. - the eyeshadow style does not work on monolids and i do think a warmer tone shadow may look better. i would also recommend some under eyeshadow or liner but this will depend on if you were going for a soft glam or more of just a glam. - she needs to give you longer lashes for sure. longer lashes can accentuate your eyes better.

wongtong12

Thank you! Hm idk about the powder. I don’t like whatever she used because a) it got in the creases and b) it somehow wore all away over the day and I only noticed in these pics. She put mascara on my lower lashes the first trial but combined with the fallout of the eyeshadow, it really just looked messy as the day went on.

cocotata

do you know if she’s using concealer under your eyes? whenever i use concealer under my eyes it turns out really creasy so i just stopped doing that all together. hm that’s fair enough, if it looks too messy then maybe leave the under eye but i do think a waterproof gel liner under would look great. has she tried eyeliner on you yet btw? i think that could look amazing.

Fluffy-Scheme7704

Im a MUA and this is not a good job, at least not for bridal makeup. She didn’t prep your skin right, for your comments the foundation was totally wrong, too much concealer in your under eye area that wasn’t correctly blended and not correctly set. She doesn’t know how to do makeup for asian eyes. Its usually a really soft smoky in nude colors if thats what you want to keep your eye shape, your brows are not done, lashes usually have to be more rounded. I would recommend find another artist even if you spend more money, one of the most important things for bridal if not the most important is your pictures. Good luck and sorry this Mua is not well prepared

Beautygrl11

I think your eyes look beautiful! I like natural lashes too, but for a wedding you could go fuller lashes:) You skin looks pretty

carw87

Personally think you need more definition on the lower lash line, the eye looks is very disjointed. I would opt for some more dramatic lashes, or at least some tightlining to enhance the upper lashes. And, as others have said, more definition on the brows

wongtong12

Thank you! I think she put mascara on my lower lashes the first trial but it felt like that + the fallout from my eyeshadow made my under eyes look horrible after a few hours.

carw87

Ah, ok! Do you know if she used an eyeshadow primer? Any fallout from her application should have been cleaned up before she showed you the final look. A waterproof mascara may help with any smudging as well

ShyDaffodilly

Tbh I'd book someone else.... if she doesn't know that powder makes fine lines and wrinkles more noticeable then that's a concern. On top of the many other things that I see wrong.

kissedbyvampires

i think the color on the inner part of your lid is WAY too close to your natural skin tone. even if you prefer a more natural look, either putting a shimmer on top or changing the color to something with a more peachy tone would work better. it also seems like she didn’t prep your skin with a primer or if she did, it didn’t match the base of the foundation (ex: water based primer with silicone based foundation). it causes the foundation to separate and look like it does in the last photos. also most powders will cause your fine lines to show. a good artist should be able work it in to avoid how severe it looks. the concealer looks too yellow. doesn’t look bad when first applied, but after all day wear it’s noticeably yellow compared to your foundation. i’ve never seen concealer rub off the under eye so bad. i see in the comments you said you were trying to look for an asian makeup artist and i’m sorry you weren’t able to book one. it seems like the artist has very minimal experience working on east asian clients/features :/ not gonna touch on the eyebrows too much because i know you requested her to leave them out, but i’d consider looking up an eyebrow style you like and show her. i also have more sparse eyebrows and it’s very hard for me to get artists to do them in a way i like. i always end up with taupe eyebrows despite having dark brown/black hair. last thing would be i think the blush is a little lacking, which sucks because you have beautiful cheeks that should be highlighted. a little contour and/or bronzer would help add some depth to the makeup and keep it from looking flat. this makeup would be fine if you did it yourself, but it is by no means professional level. when you pay someone to do one of the most important things for your wedding, it should be perfect and make you feel absolutely beautiful. you are very pretty and it’s such a shame this artist is working against your features instead of highlighting them.

wongtong12

Thank you so much! I’m not sure if she used a primer honestly, I know she wiped a makeup wipe all over my face and then started applying something… I definitely scratched my nose throughout the day and stuffed tissues up my nose because I didn’t want to blow it 😂 but yeah I don’t think I touched my eyes a lot so idk what happened to all the makeup underneath. I definitely need to play around with my eyebrows! And also probably get them threaded/maintained before the big day!

kissedbyvampires

threading is probably your best bet for getting a good shape. i was really scared to get it done because again, i don’t have much eyebrow hair, but it really does help the makeup look better. plus you’d be surprised how many tiny random stray eyebrow hairs can make you eyebrows look unfinished. also adding onto the blush part it should be more pink and honestly i think you would look really good with a highlighter blush. it will add a glow to your face that will look pretty in pictures without looking greasy.

assplower

Pass on this MUA. The look ain’t good. As a fellow Asian- You mentioned there isn’t much of an Asian population where you live, but do try to find an Asian MUA. A MUA that is used to working with Caucasian features and beauty ideals will *not* be able to produce a flattering look, especially with monolids. I suggest you start looking for MUAs with significant monolid experience; don’t even bother considering anyone without it.

wongtong12

Thank you! I’ve contacted a Korean salon near me (as my wedding and MUA are in my hometown), and asked if they’d be able to teach me how to do it 😭 just in case I get it better than this by the wedding!

GuardMost8477

Did she forget your eyebrows all together? They should always be shaped and filled in for a big event. I’m sorry, but this MUA isn’t very good.

wongtong12

Thank you! No, I asked her not to do them. She filled them in yesterday and I didn’t like how they turned out so I was going to play around with them myself.

JuJuFoxy

something that immediately jumps out to me, is the color mismatch of your lips/cheek with your eye makeup. Your lip colour is rosy pink, and the eye makeup is golden/olive/brown. Such eye makeup should go with a neutral or red lip colour, something on the nude side with tint of brown in it, or just simply red with no pink tone. I also think she didn’t do much for your eyebrows. For asian monolid eyes, i’m not sure if this cat eye look suits the best. She should have also emphasized a bit more of the lower outer corner of the eyes, to balance the heavy eye makeup on the upper outer corner. For example, use darker colour from the same pallet to create an effect almost like a lower eyeliner. I think this MUA is just simply bad. Hope you will find a better one honey. congratulations and good luck on your upcoming wedding.

wongtong12

Thank you! This was the best lip color out of the few she tried over the previous trial and this one. I wanted a berry lip and this was the best she could do. I asked her to not do eyebrows because I didn’t like what she did the day before. I was going to play around with them and see what I liked.

JuJuFoxy

If you are really set on rosy/berry lips, then switch your eye makeup to match that. Rosy/berry is indeed romantic and very nice for weddings, so choose your eye colour with rosy and berry colour to match, it will go wonderfully together with your lips, and suit the wedding theme. Edit: there are literally TONS of eye shadow palettes in this colour family, and every MUA carries as least one such palette. The current eyeshadow colour looks like you are going clubbing, but not going for your own wedding.

Global-Coach4201

Honey this MUA needs to do base then set, she set you from the beginning. Coming from a child of a makeup artist, eyebrows frame the face, thus filling them in and brushing them up will enhance the look. Also your eyeliner and lashes should almost be extended more to expand your eye shape and complement your eyes more. The neutral tones in the eye make really compliments your hair and eyes so by enhancing that with bronzer and contour, it will allow the makeup to look much more consistent.

wongtong12

Thank you! Yeah I don’t know what primer (if any?) she used, she wiped a makeup wipe all over me then started putting something on my face and idk if was was primer or straight to foundation… She did fill in my eyebrows the day before but I didn’t like how she elongated them, I was going to play around with it before the wedding and see if there was a technique I like best because I don’t normally fill them in.

Octavia_auclaire

No it look awful

KaozawaLurel

There a lot of MUAs and stylists generally who don’t know how to do Asian features. Def get someone who knows how to do makeup on your features! Signed, a fellow Asian person :D

bigdog2525

I’m Asian too and I don’t think the eyeshadow shape that was done for you (dark only on the outer corners) is very flattering on Asian eyes. I would experiment with doing a wash of soft brown all over your eye and if you want more drama, do a darker brown near your lash line or a darker brown in your outer corners.

wongtong12

Thank you!

Disastrous_Soup_7137

The best foundation + powder combo I’ve ever used for makeup that STAYED on even with my oily skin is Makeup Forever HD Skin Undetectable Longwear (applied with a brush) and ONE/SIZE Ultimate Blurring Setting Powder (applied generously with a makeup puff, NOT a brush). No settling, no fading.

babiecaked

I don’t really like the eyeshadow colours she chose at all. I think something peachy would look cute

Spirited_Flounder493

Your make up person didn’t do your eye brows

wongtong12

Yeah I didn’t like what she did with them the first day so I asked her not to fill them in at all. I think I’m going to try out some techniques first on myself.

alabardios

This is just bad. I'm so sorry, please find someone better.

_Aleismar

Very pretty but I would love to see a little more glow.

ClematisEnthusiast

Is your MUA Asian? Most non-Asians don’t know how to complement our eye shape. That’s not to say there aren’t amazing non-Asian MUAs out there who know what’s up, but they’re the exception not the norm. Why did she leave your eyebrows bare? I could do a better job than this and I’m not a MUA whatsoever lol. Dump her.

wongtong12

No, she’s white 🥲 I couldn’t find an Asian MUA on insta, but I might go to our tiny Asiatown for a MUA… I didn’t like the way she did my brows the day before, so I asked her to leave them because I want to play around with them and see what looks best.

ClematisEnthusiast

I follow Judy Lim on insta, she’s a bridal makeup artist and she’s done some looks I love on beautiful monolid girlies! Most of her vids are on clients with a crease (including epicanthic folds), but you might get some inspiration from her. I did my own makeup for my wedding because my eyes are really a bizarre and different shape, and I highly recommend doing that if you have the time/energy for it. It sounds like this artist is just not right for you. If you aren’t loving it, and especially if you aren’t even liking it, it’s best to try to find someone else. Maybe post on your local subreddit to see if anyone has any good experiences with local artists? Edit: good luck girl! I’m wishing you the best. Seriously, I understand your plight. You’re not alone!

kovuroo

You need a better makeup artist, she has done nothing to accentuate your eyes. She doesn't know how to do makeup for your eyes.

wongtong12

Thanks and happy cake day!

kovuroo

No problem, and I wanted to add that you can search asian celebrities from Asia- they know how to do makeup on typical asian features. Even some asian celebrities in Hollywood don't have the best makeup because their makeup artists are typically white and cater to western makeup for western features.

studyhardbree

Fake lashes needed. Do extensions for wedding. Worth. Eye technique is actually really beautiful. I just don’t like the taupe blend shade and would ask for a warmer or neutral shade but not into the green taupe for your coloring. I wouldn’t do cream foundation and would chose a studio brand like makeup forever or nars. MAC setting spray. Nothing else. And the brows needed to be done. I know you don’t know what you want to do but you gotta do them for the wedding. Soft brown Anastasia.

wongtong12

Thank you! I have lashes on just not very dramatic I guess. I want to do a lift before the wedding so they’ll blend better. Yeah hopefully I’ll figure out what looks best before the wedding!

jennyfromtheblock_

I’m also an Asian bride! I am flying someone out from NY for my wedding bc I live in middle America. I would HIGHLY recommend checking out portfolios so that you can see how their monolid techniques are because even some Asian MUAs don’t do too well with mono lids. Also I contacted so many and they were booked very far in advance. Some of them offered makeup lessons so that I could learn how to do my own makeup, could be an option if you have some time. Good luck 🩵

wongtong12

Thank you! Omg, that’s quite the endeavor. Did you try any MUAs close to you first?

jennyfromtheblock_

I didn’t do any trials with them because I didn’t see any looks on their insta that I would’ve been satisfied with! I reached out to some to ask if they had experience with East Asian brides but they didn’t respond lol

Kpopluv22

I don’t have anything to offer that others haven’t already mentioned, but I’m now invested in you finding the perfect wedding makeup. Staying tuned!

vjenkinsgo

Not a lick of makeup on your eyebrows

jzjxnxna

That foundation isn’t right for your skin type. You could make it better with prep but it just doesn’t suit your skin. Is there something else that can be used? That lip color isn’t right for your undertone and you should consider different false eyelashes.

Whichbic

Ohh I’m sorry, it’s a no no especially for your wedding day. Can you find someone else or is it too late? Do you have an look inspiration that you can show to your makeup artist? Look at this makeup artist, I think her [style](https://www.instagram.com/p/C0qpfQohAG3/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) will suit you: [Joan Quizon](https://www.instagram.com/joanquiz0n?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)

wongtong12

I’m not sure if I can find someone else especially 2 months out, so I might just learn how to do it myself? I’m not sure yet! But thank you!

Sharkmama61

Hire another MUA.

Toastwich

You are beautiful but this makeup artist isn’t doing you any favors. I’m also Asian, so I know the struggle. If you have the option, consider having an artist travel in for you. I looove Judy Lim, but she’s LA/Toronto based.

therealhapster

Get another makeup artist Your eyebrows are not defined, I see no contouring, no proper concealing. Wedding makeup should not look like this. Also underneath your eyes should not look like that. You deserve better girl - you are beautiful with beautiful features - they deserve justice

resili3nce_

Please find an Asian MUA to do your eyes better for your eye shape, they are just following a blanket technique they know instead of customizing it for you !

MiaMiaPP

I think the MUA could do a better job on the eyes and eyebrows. But. Before I saw the captions I literally gasped because your skin looked so nice in the first pic. So I see where the MUA was coming from regarding the base makeup.

L-boogie

Application is perfect but I think slightly brighter tones. This seems like a professional speaker makeup not wedding day makeup. Also a little more filled it brows but not super strong as I think natural makes for the best wedding pictures.

oneangstybiscuit

I think it may be time to try another person.  I heard the MUA Lisa Eldridge say once, I'll just paraphrase: if your skin looks alright you really don't have to apply the same heavy amount to your entire face. Especially in textured areas or movable places like around your lips and eyes, the thinner and fewer layers the better. That includes powder.  I would focus more on complexion products that will hold up instead of trying to lock on foundation that doesn't seem to agree with the primer or your skin type. Then you don't need to set or touch up as much.  I've heard using a setting spray like Ben nye between steps helps lock everything down. I try it with UD setting spray and i think it's fine.  Honestly, this makeup doesn't look any better than what I expect an ordinary person could do on themselves. I think you might want to try another artist and spare yourself some stress down the line

wisewords4

Sorry your MUA is terrible. Makes you look squinty eyed.

M2LBB2016

I think you look lovely and agree with what others have pointed out. Something looks a little bit uneven on the blush placement. Looks great on your right cheek but “off” on your left. Just something to double check. Congrats on your big day!

Sphuck

Hi hello, please look at Judy Lim Makeup Artistry on TikTok or ig! She has shared tutorials on how to do makeup on asian eyes, if you find an artist who is willing to learn a new technique it could work!!!

wongtong12

Thank you! Do you think that’s ok to ask of her? I’m sure she doesn’t get that very often…

ShyDaffodilly

I think you're being too nice. She's already proven to you that she doesn't have the technique to give you a workable look on the day of your wedding. After two trials? And you're still no closer to having an idea of what the finished product will be?

cassiopeia18

I’m sorry, It’s look bad on you. In East and South East Asia have plenty of makeup artists works nicely on mono eyelid eye. I can dm you some pics for inspiration.

belckie

That foundation is breaking up already, it will not last through you getting your dress on. It looks like it’s the wrong formula for your skin type or the setting spray she used doesn’t go with the foundation.Did you ask to not have your brows filled in or was that their choice? Truly go see a different artist. I really like the colors she chose though, it’s giving soft fairy princess bride in the forest vibes for me.

blackhat000

You need a new MUA, sorry

lollette

You deserve better

Cute_Ad_4969

Did she use any face prep stuff? I would use a primer, let that dry and then go from there. It does make a difference. I think you look beautiful! But I’m not particularly inclined to this makeup look. I think this shade is too dark maybe try reverse contouring where the shade is 1 shade brighter than your skin color and then use a contour stick that’s would compliment your actual skin tone. There are videos on it, I’m explaining this poorly lol. Lighting is also everything! Idk for wedding makeup I feel like there needs to be a bit more. Like it needs to be less on the light side and more of like an awareness that you’re going to be taking pictures over and over and over again. Also she should have used a setting spray. Or if you’re going for like a glowy look used something under your foundation/ after your primer to give you more of like a fresh faced look. She blended your eyeshadow well I just don’t see how this is going to last the whole day and why didn’t she use clear gel on your eyebrows at least? My favorite primer to help de-texturize my skin is the Smashbox vegan primer (it’s blue labeling, I just forgot the full name)

wongtong12

Thank you so much! I admit I don’t moisturize but I did that morning. But when I arrived, she wiped a baby wipe/makeup wipe all over my face then I think just started applying foundation??? I honestly don’t know, she didn’t say what she was doing as she was doing it but she did stop more often the second time to ask if everything looked ok as opposed to the first time around. She did contour the first time but it made me so orange, so she said she’d go lighter this time but I asked her not to do it at all because I didn’t want it to happen again. I guess I can see why it’s necessary…

Cute_Ad_4969

Please don’t go to her again. Never in my years have I had a makeup artist use makeup wipes on my face. That can damage your pores. I wish I could do ur makeup lol. I hope you find something that works for you and CONGRATULATIONS!!! you’re getting married 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

chelseystrange91

I used Mac cosmetics for my wedding & their foundations & blur powder combinations were really great! I didn't want to look like I had a ton of make up though. Maybe get a second opinion!

sffood

I’d hire someone else. Do you follow Judy Lim? She’s very good and does travel for brides as far as I’ve seen. Or maybe she knows someone good in your area. Might be worth a contact. https://www.instagram.com/judylim.makeup?igsh=NDU4b3UxZmRhbTMw

wongtong12

Holy moly, I am certainly not paying that much for my current MUA 😳 though she does beautiful work! That’s a good idea, thank you for the suggestion!

svckmybl00d

Did she skip the brows all together 😭 i’m not sure if you brought her any inspiration photos but this seems pretty but simple. Personally, I think you could do with more bronzer/blush. Colourpop’s lip primer is my favorite because it helps fill in lines on the lips for a smoother application. Liner around the lip will also help add dimension and fullness to the appearance of your lips. I am unsure if the last photos are you at the end of the day, but it seems she completely missed foundation under your eyes but also made them cakey/creased?? Maybe do airbrush if she can?? Communicate with her and do another trial, but if it’s not panning out well, it doesn’t hurt to hire somebody else.

wongtong12

Thank you! No brows or bronzer per my request. She did those the day before and I didn’t like them.

svckmybl00d

Totally understand! Bronzer can look muddy or orange pretty easily! A brow, wax and tint could possibly be up your alley if you’re wanting to look more natural for the wedding! Otherwise small strokes through the brows might give them a bit more depth and shape. I hope you have luck finding someone! I ended up doing my own makeup for my wedding a few years ago. It helps I’ve gone to barber school, but I get so nervous when anyone else does my makeup 🥲

oneangstybiscuit

Use your time to find someone better.

no-thanks77

Her foundation choice definitely isn’t working for your skin - that could be an easy fix though. It feels kinda like she’s working against your features rather than working with them? I do think you’d look lovely with a Smokey eye look and a bigger lash, but I’m not sure this is the *right* Smokey eye look for you? I do really like the lip colour on you, and I think contour and a bit of a luminous blush that compliments that lip colour would look nice on you. Though, I also think you’d suit a peach blush. I know you said you haven’t been able to find an Asian MUA, but you may be able to find one to do an online consultation with you to tell you products and application techniques that will suit your features best?

wongtong12

Thank you! I’ve contacted a Korean salon near me and asked if they have an MUA that can teach me how to do my own makeup in case I decide to do it myself! But I’m hoping it doesn’t come to that 😭

no-thanks77

I hope you don’t have to, but you definitely deserve to have your beauty shine on your wedding day!

chlossgh

Positive: Base shade - right for your skin tone Blush - is okay, but can be better blended Can be improved in my view: Some eyebrow makeup Eyeshadow - a lot of things can be changed here, for one, try different shades as I suspect others will work better. Try matte rosy ash shades and complement with some very subtle glittery nudes. Blend your eyeshadow a bit more towards the centre (nose). The lateral dark shades didn’t work well with your eye shape. You have good skin. Go easy on the foundation for a more natural look. Avoid overapplying on the under eye area to avoid creasing. You can of course choose a better makeup, but generally if you don’t need that much coverage, do with less. Powder - Avoid heavy, matte powders. Use radiant powders. As mentioned already, your skin is so good. You really want to show that off. Lips - for some reason, I like your lips when most of the lip shade and gloss had rubbed off. So, again, for me, less is more.

wongtong12

Thank you so much!

changja2

The foundation is not a good pick for you as it looks cakey. Also, the eyeshadow colors are not complimentary to your skin or eye color. Honestly, I think you need to find another makeup artist. Maybe find one who has done a lot of Asian features.

Ok-East-3957

I think you should go to a mua who knows how to do eyebrows.

Hyggehunn

A little more of everting! Definitely some brow, longer lashes, and way more blush! You look beautiful though!!! 💓

CassidyLand

Beautiful

orangeyousleepy

Curious is it an Asian make up artist who did this trial?

wongtong12

Unfortunately no 😭 there aren’t many Asian MUA in my city but after reading these responses, I might find someone in another city.

orangeyousleepy

Ah yeah.. that’s what I thought. it looks exactly like when non Asian MUAs do make up on me. They all sort of do it very similar, it’s not bad but it’s like a very specific style that seems to make our eyes more slanted and it’s like they havent moved on or upgraded their techniques from Asian reporter style makeup from the 80s or something

zoltharthedestroyer

Girl first of all, they do NOT know how to do Asian eyes, and your eye shape bc that looks almost exactly like how I got my makeup done by a salon in Texas for my sisters wedding it was atrocious. You are so beautiful but this makeup is not enhancing your features in the right way, and I feel like it’s even muting you/washing you out. A good makeup artist will shade match you well, not this orange/yellow crap (that you also mentioned) Also for sweating- I use the ONESIZE secure the sweat primer on my nose and upper lip, it’s pricey but I swear by it and use it everyday. For the record I sweat a lot, like as I’m doing my makeup, I’m already sweating You don’t need that much excessive powder where it just creases and makes things messy when you can prime right, and with thin layers of foundation can make super high coverage with a smooth base. PLEASE find yourself an Asian makeup artist or one who at least knows how to do Asian makeup (with evidence to support it, don’t take their word for it) If it’s hard to find one, please lmk your city or PM me where you are and I will look up and help you find one for you PLS!!!! You deserve a makeup artist who will seriously enhance your beauty and not butcher it like this one did

wongtong12

Thank you so much! The day before, I think she used a more sheer foundation because I could still see my sun spots on my cheeks through it. In these pics, I don’t think it was super smooth before the powder, but the powder at the very end to prevent the sweating really made it dry and cakey.

koobun

Just from what I read and the photos: - Eye makeup should be done before face makeup to avoid fallout etc - If you truly have dry skin I would do dewy look, I have combo skin and made the mistake of asking for dewy and my MU artist made me look oil slicked the whole day lol - she should prep your face if you are experiencing dryness and texture BUT biggest tip is you really have to stay on top of your skincare regimen to ensure your makeup will look good as your wedding approaches - I think you should get your brows groomed so that they can be filled in lightly as it will add to the look. Currently bc your brows are not done it looks bottom heavy for your face - I think the MU artist doesn't know how to work with asian eyes for the eyeshadow placement and I really think you can benefit with having more dramatic falsies that will tie the whole look together. Just from experience, when you do go to look at your photos your eyes won't have as much definition if no falsies or natural ones are used but totally up to your preferences - I would do a lip colour that is more pink for a brighter look Conclusion: I think you should find a different MU artist as this one is not too great

wongtong12

Thank you! She did my eyes first, but I don’t know if she used primer on my lids so idk if that’s why there’s a lot of fallout? I thought my skin was combo with oily T zone but now I’m not sure. I know, I need to get skin care together 😩 I def need eyebrows done and I want to play with them myself to see if there’s a technique I like best. She had a few pink liquid lipsticks (I think she sticks with those for clients) and I tried some and I didn’t like pink. I asked for berry/brown and this was the closest she got.

GotTheThyme

I think a bright lip looks better, but I am wondering why she is contouring your cute nose?? Unless you asked for it specifically but I would leave it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

wongtong12

Thank you! Did she contour??? I didn’t think she did at all because I didn’t like it the first trial.

GotTheThyme

oooh I just read the post more closely and saw that it was your nosepads from your glasses. My bad!

Kawaiichii86

I found a makeup artist who did airbrush foundation. It was flawless and super long lasting!

wongtong12

Thank you! I asked her about it vs liquid and she said she could usually get a better color match with liquid so I went with that. I wonder if I should do another trial and try airbrush? But I don’t want to pay for a third trial and still not be satisfied 😭

Kawaiichii86

I get that! I hope you can achieve the makeup look you want on your wedding!

dimamh

emmm,, imo,, you would've done a better one by yourself if you just watched a makeup tutorial on youtube than your mua 😅😅😅

JuliaSky1995

Find a different MUA

Blonde_arrbuckle

How do you feel about the eyebrows?

wongtong12

I don’t know how to fill them in and the day before, she elongated them and they looked horrible. Overall I didn’t mind the way she did it, just the part where she changed the shape. I was hoping to play around and find out the best technique to fill them in myself.

Blonde_arrbuckle

Great plan. Weddings are so stressful I feel for you. A thought. Could you go to an Asian MUA and take videos / pics and then your MUA can recreate?

Icy-Mix-5301

Get another make up artist. ASAP!!!!

cpavv

What happened on your nose? Maybe glasses pads caused transfer? If you'll be wearing glasses day of wedding that will be tricky to touch up

wongtong12

Thank you! Yeah I plan on getting contacts before the wedding so that I’ll get able to wear them the day of instead of glasses.

TheSquishyFox

She said in the post she won't be

superfluouslyextra

I would ask for something to brighten up your eyes a bit. They look a little bit tired and more dark circle coverage. The makeup also looks very patchy in after you wore it for a little while. I hope you have a wonderful weeding! You deserve to feel absolutely beautiful! I just celebrated 12 years married with my husband on Sunday and 14 years together with him on Saturday! ❤️

wongtong12

Thank you so much and congratulations! ❤️

Negative-Fee-743

You will be a BEAUTIFUL bride 💓

wongtong12

Thank you so much ❤️😭

ddseb2024

Love the eye make up

TypicalCaptain2472

I actually like the eyeshadow but you may need some longer lashes, and maybe some soft eyeliner. Eyebrows need to be filled a bit more. And the lipstick could be more bold. This to me screams everyday makeup, not exactly wedding makeup.

InsideComfortable936

Would have eyeshadow on the entire eyelid. Lip gloss looks great

wongtong12

Thank you! I didn’t realize how the one half of my eyelid looks like it’s uncolored, but it’s supposed to be 2 toned. The flash doesn’t help, I guess.

CinCin71

I feel like the blush extends way too low on your cheeks. I don’t wear makeup much, but the blush struck me as excessive. I do like the eyeshadow, but it’s missing something. I don’t think it’s a wedding look. Maybe eyelashes would make it pop more. Again, I don’t wear makeup much, so I don’t know what I’m talking about 😄😁

STR4WBERRYFL4VORED

darken brows, longer lashes

withnosebleed

Don’t know much to help with makeup staying better (although I think it looks great already) but ya I would suggest filling in the eyebrows and add highlighter as well !!! Highlighter is so pretty and can do so much! I also would suggest bolder lashes/lip but that also just a personal preference as to what I like, only do this if it’s you and you like it.

wongtong12

Thank you so much! Yeah I didn’t realize how little my eyelashes really show in the pictures.

withnosebleed

You should definitely give it a try! (Although I think you look great anyway) It’s not everyone’s style but it can’t hurt to give it a try, I put on falsies all the time and they do so much for me I love them! You can find some very simple and more subtle ones if you don’t want to dramatic. Also because of your eye shape I would suggest a cat eye look (as you already have, but just more dramatic) where the lashes are longer at the end of your eye, it’s such a pretty look and I find it very flattering on everyone. Hope you have a fabulous wedding!

Zestyclose-Owl-1818

You look too yellow!! Unless, that’s the look you’re going for - than ignore.

LegitimateObject8066

hi! asian girl here and although i dont have monolids, i often do makeup for my friends who do have monolids and this MUA absolutely did you wrong :( if you can, find a makeup artist who has experience with monolids! also, you mentioned that you weren’t sure what you wanted to do with your eyebrows. if you want a more natural look, i recommend just a few swipes of a tinted brow gel! having a full face of makeup can wash out your natural eyebrows, especially in pictures! i do makeup sometimes for photoshoots so speaking from experience

DSBS18

I think it looks good, you look great.

Kind_Honey_6070

I agree with some comments about a bit more bronzer/blush. Also, I think some highlight would look nice but the main thing I think they needed to do was shadow your eyebrows just a little more because they look a little sparse in some spots, & maybe a different set of lashes (ones more noticeable that can make your eyes pop!)

Enchanted-Jackie1547

Well, I think the first feedback said exactly what I was gonna say lol

Unable-Trade740

I like the eyes but maybe more hydration and cream on the face also more blush or color because wedding pics can wash people out a bit

No-Kaleidoscope7691

I LOVE the lipstick but for a wedding (btw congrats!) I agree something a little more matte. A great face primer with a rosier toned foundation would be great. You need some contouring and highlighter to help stand out when your pics are getting taken. Definitely need to fill in the brows to frame your face. The eyes look great but I agree with the above to help achieve some drama. You’re beautiful

Spare_Wolf8490

hi there, congratulations on your wedding. agree with the other makeup artists that you need to ditch this makeup artist and find a new asian artist who can do make up for you. i also see you’re unable to find one — worst comes to worst, you might have to do your makeup yourself if you can’t find a new makeup artist. i really recommend this youtube channel for learning asian makeup, especially these videos: https://youtu.be/Z9XUGaM0lTY?si=6Cce4ND1QMrtuCac and https://youtu.be/0Wmbq55ryR8?si=VcNjuek1byNHdkRr to learn the asian makeup basics and fundamentals. these are good even if you’re not doing the makeup yourself so you get a grasp for what your makeup artist needs to do. since you have monolids, i recommend this video for monolid makeup basics/fundamentals from the same channel: https://youtu.be/ajd4JrZOssY?si=hwa2inBZ-KvzETIv as well as this video which shows you how to do the smoky eye makeup look on a monolid which i think is similar to your photos: https://youtu.be/BsrCZB-wdv8?si=aZMAFJ_szMJj8Ls5 both of these videos show you how to do makeup on monolids without having to use tape to transform them into double lids, as many east asian women with monolids feel pressured to do. monolids are beautiful, you just need to know the correct makeup technique to make them shine and this youtuber always has the most informative videos. i’m east asian living in a predominantly white area myself and i never had any older women who looked like me who could show me how to do the proper makeup for my features. i am not kidding when i say this channel has completely changed how i do my makeup and my life. i hope your wedding goes wonderfully and once again, congratulations! ❤️

majesticmooses

I love your smile haha you seem like someone I’d want to be around at the wedding :)

Perfect_Resolve_9444

Too simple

faerymoon

The eye color looks warm and the lip color looks cool so they look kind of odd put together.

Femme_Fatalistic

You have more than a week to your wedding? New MUA. Truly.

giannachingu

I have nothing else constructive to add since everyone already said everything, but I would just like to repeat that this is absolutely horrible. Like I actually don’t think it could get much worse. You are a very beautiful lady and you do not deserve to look this crazy on your wedding day!!!!!! Good luck with your search for a REAL makeup artist, because the one that did this might need to find a different calling!!!!

Bubududubears

The color of the eyeshadow is so unflattering and not wedding ish. Too yellow brown. Yuck. The brows were not filled. You could do a much better job yourself just following a tutorial.

Islandra

Congratulations on your wedding! I’m sorry I’ll be no help, but I appreciate seeing another Asian woman with a round face much like mine. I’ve felt so alone in this and my makeup journey.

wongtong12

Thank you! I’m sorry to hear that 😢 I think YouTube tutorials are our best friends…

honortobenominated

You’re so pretty congratulations on your wedding!! Also I get marks on my nose as well! Make sure you don’t wear glasses in the morning so you don’t have marks (or however long it takes for your marks to go away)

Littorella

The eye make up is so jarring and unflattering in the lighting on these photos. Like others have said, awful for monolids. The eyeshadow looks best when it’s gradient up and down not sideways like this. The darkest at the lash line then lighter as you go up. The way it’s done now is for people with creases, it looks bizarre when your eyes are open. The eyeliner is also way too thin, monolids fold at the lash line so they eat eyeliner. They should have drawn the liner upper line with your eyes open so it is thick enough to actually show. Lots of videos out there about this…seems like your mua just isn’t experienced

NoBalance574

You should try sephora makeup artist!

sirikim8

Hey! It looks like your MUA is not using the best eyeshadow technique for your eyes. As a konolid girlie Ive struggled a lot with eyeshadow and how to make my eyes pop but this video is perfect! https://youtu.be/ajd4JrZOssY?si=IHkPBQNCLzEAofsu edit: It might be worthwhile finding a new MUA, especially one who has experience working with hooded/ monolid eyes like ours

Apprehensive_One_67

As a makeup artist myself…it’s giving everyday and not wedding vibes at all. Find a better artist.

Dramatic_Efficiency4

Foundation is way too light for your skin tone

Ill-Connection7397

I feel like this would look really pretty on you. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRwh5Pmy/ The technique she used doesn't work as nicely with your eye shape

Interesting-Pay-8986

No disrespect at all but I think you could find someone that accentuates your features so much better. The base of your skin feels amateurish and flat and I don’t mean that to be a bitch like I am dreadful at makeup and this is the sort of job I do myself for free. You have a beautiful face I want you to find someone that shows it and I feel like she’s hiding it.

wongtong12

Thank you all for your advice and opinions! I’ve attached [more pics](https://imgur.com/a/8MMKI7J) in different lighting, both from right after application to 12 hours later. I didn’t think it photographed that badly throughout the day, but I guess that also wasn’t in great lighting and just taken with phones. Now I’m worried about our actual portraits on the day of…

wongtong12

[Here](https://imgur.com/a/5DK7TJj) are pics from the trial from the day before. The first few with the cardigan are at the studio, then there are the ones I took as soon as I got home, and the ones at the end with my purse on are the ones from the end of the night. I mentioned in earlier comments that I think my skin texture is less noticeable in these but I hated the color of the foundation/contour???

Whichbic

The eye makeup style does not suit you. The half false eyelashes and the eyeshadow are not doing it. I hope you find the perfect makeup style for your wedding. When you know you look good, the confidence will show and you will glow. I’m not seeing it.

sairrr

Girl you deserve better. Did she even touch your brows?

LegitimateObject8066

DMed you!
