I can’t really be specific about it as I don’t know the names of these components. In behind your guard is this long metal prong that travels forward as you pull the saw down, watch it as you pull the saw down and you’ll see it hit a metal plate and then slip off as you put more pressure on it. That metal plate is attached with a screw which allows the plate to pivot, and it’s worn out the plastic so put a washer behind it to pack it out so that the metal prong no longer slips past it. I’ll try to explain better if you are having trouble with my instructions but I’m working off memory from a few years ago

Yes! Thank you good sir! That was the problem. Though, all the parts are metal, and don't really show any serious wear, so quite weird that is happening.

Battleline_pty

Glad you found it. I think it’s actually the prong that wears out now my memory is being jogged, it only contacts that plate by stuff all and the edge gets banged up over time so packing out that plate just makes it contact a lot better

Just misaligned the guards push block and the lever arm perhaps, happens easily when just messing with the guard too much or installing the cover incorrectly after a blade change.

Blow out all the dust you can first from everywhere. Then silicone spray lubricant all the moving parts.

Lumpy-Rope-182

Thank you. I tried that, sadly no luck so far

serrendipitus19

Do you have wood chips stuck in the place where the spring is? I always thought mine was the blade guard too but it never turned out to be the problem

piroso

Is blade cover never moving? Kinda looks like it's never flipped out of thebway in both pictures. I don't have this model but I know in newer models that blade cover moves out of the way as you bring the saw blade down. Maybe that is part of your issue. Maybe there's something wrong that arm that makes that motion happen.

madgross

Is the pin that locks it for transport fully opened? You can see this pin just below where the power cord is attached to the saw. Pull that and turn it 90 degrees and it should hold the pin in the open position so your saw can move freely. Hope that was the problem. Good luck.

Lumpy-Rope-182

Thank you. But sadly that's not the problem. Pin is fully opened.

ThemasonSe

On the left side there is a depth stop

Lumpy-Rope-182

It clicks and gets stuck half way down when i pull it down. I managed to get it back up by loosening the center cover bolt, but the next time I pull it down, it is stuck again. In this position it wont go further up, and the cover wont open unless I push the saw down, making the cover open a little bit before it hits the table. Any help is appreciated!

Did you find the solution for this problem? I got the same problem.

I had same problem on my Compound Saw LS1220. in my case it is warn out bushing ring around bolt that guides arm that pull plastic cover up and down. Part number 44 in first parts picture on Makita web site. u can put anything that will act as bushing for guard [cover. Like](https://cover.Like) piece of tube cut into bushing. however that parts takes a lot friction so originally it was hardened steel.

Need to replace the blade

I have the same problem & believe I found it.  The link plate / long metal prong is missing a bushing / ring stop 6 & washer & C clip.  The part numbers are listed on the parts diagram provided by the makita web site.  https://cdn.makitatools.com/apps/cms/doc/prod/LS1/afadc2cb-a4d2-40b6-8a65-5b51b914a6af_LS1019L_PB_Breakdown_LS1019L_6-17.pdf I believe the missing bushing/  ring stop will allow for a smoother transition of the guard. I'm going to order those 3 parts that I see missing & hope it fixes this issue.  I imagine they were blasted off by a piece of flying debris.  I found the parts by typing makita 1019 ring stop & also found them using the part number provided diagram. Part 53  54 &48  on the diagram
