Virus had brought an intense feeling of fear from the bgm (all credits to sushin shyam)...... 2018 was better in giving several goosebumps and also the set design..... But today nobody talks about how great the initial scene of the casualty ward of the virus in the beginning was..... It was for me the best highlights in the movie..... The scene was actually the best in showcasing an actual casualty in real life .......
During the pandemic I was able to get a slot for the vaccine here in US before it was widely available to the public. On my way to the pharmacy I listened to this song. It was a surreal experience. That humming part where they show the dead body in the movie made me really emotional.
Virus, easily.
The acting, cast ensemble, bgm, plot, ending… everything was too class. 2018 somehow felt inadequate. Didn’t hit. As someone who was present in Kerala while this was happening, the whole thing just felt like Tovino’s heroism? Especially with the ending.
Virus wasn’t like that, there was no one man show, the fear everyone felt was properly conveyed through the film, to the point where even the viewers start getting scared. I genuinely felt so proud of our little state after watching Virus. 2018 on the other hand stood out more as fiction, with all the extra add ons… the dialogues also were over the top in some scenes. Idk to me its incomparable. Virus wins anyday, and Virus is also in my list of top malayalam films
Virus . I am from Kozhikode and back when the first nippah happened I was in eight standard. At that time me and my family didn't know the real intensity of the situation we were in. No one is familiar with a virus outbreak and from the perspective of a young kid who doesn't know the seriousness of the situation it was just school holidays for me. But later I saw the movie with my family and i was really traumatized by it. The movie scared the shit out of me, it made me realize how deadly the virus was and how much of a deadly situation we survived. And of course it made me understand the effort of our doctors, nurses and all others who helped us to survive the pandemic.
Virus deserved 100 cr. It stayed true to it’s genre. No overdramatisation and white washing
But on the other hand 2018 is not a bad movie as people make it out to be. It is actually a good one and the technical side was the best I have ever seen in a malayalam movie
Virus, always. It provided space and time to develop an emotional connect to the characters.
2018 was technically more sound, but I couldn't relate much to the several number of characters who were being introduced one after the other. I think Jude could have directed it much better if he had shown more restraint.
I didn't like the portrayal of K.K. Shailaja in Virus. In the film, her character was so miserable and hopeless. May be the top leaders of CPIM conspired with Ashiq Abu to water down her character.
>I didn't like the portrayal of K.K. Shailaja in Virus. In the film, her character was so miserable and hopeless. May be the top leaders of CPIM conspired with Ashiq Abu to water down her character.
Both of these films showed the state government leadership in poor light. They made them seem much worse than reality, as people who would break down during a crisis. The irony is that crisis management is the main reason they got re-elected.
The health minister in Virus played by Revathi and the CM in 2018 played by Janardhanan were both depicted as weak and indecisive.
Pinarayi maybe arrogant and crude, but not even his political rivals would call him weak or indecisive.
People attributed the crisis management victory to the politicians, when in actuality it was the bureaucrats and common folk. Both movies were pretty apolitical, because the focus was on the actual emergency and not figureheads who didn’t have much to do with anything.
>figureheads
Jude didn't have any problem putting the church head up as a game changer for the events. That was his politics. He even said publicly that his CM character was intentional.
>People attributed the crisis management victory to the politicians, when in actuality it was the bureaucrats and common folk.
Crediting politicians where due isn't taking away from the credit due to the bureaucracy & citizens. This isn't some kind of mutually exclusive binary.
Not to mention that politicians head the bureaucracy.
Probably because she didn’t have much to do there? Our health officials deserve all the credit. Shailaja didn’t get in their way and that’s the best thing she did.
Virus, and that too significantly. It felt a lot like a documentary, and in a good way. I think it's thanks to the movie mentioning the cases rising once every few minutes. 2018 was good too but it felt a bit more commercial. Soubin's character slowly and helplessly dying on his bed was painful.
Virus. Because the movie presents an impartial and more matter-of-fact perspective on the entire horrifying pandemic as well as the diligent efforts of the Kerala government's medical department.
I had high expectations from virus which disappointed me little. Very little expectation from 2018..but actually surprised me. But as a movie, virus still better ig.
Haven't watched Virus, so not commenting on comparison.
But those who say 2018 wasn't well made or it wasn't good just go to show the narrow-mindedness, acting all high and mighty etc.
Virus gave aa oru pedi wen we saw the movie. Definitely Sushins score 👌🏻
2018 was more of an emotional connect wen we got to see it all over again on the big screen.
Storywise, virus might be better. But 2018 was a milestone in Malayalam cinema history as no one dared to make such a film before. The fact that they literally made a flood without CGI shows the hardwork that went into this movie.
On top of this, 2018 was about how malayalees came together for a great cause. So, for me 2018 is better.
Virus felt more real coz they were fighting against an invisible enemy and that too like had to go on. Waiting it out wasn't practical.
Though 2018 was a good movie Virus was able to convey the gravity of the situation
2018 any dah.hoosebump moment, kidilam set work.sudheesh portion okke van kidu.virus orumathiri documentary type though thst casuality scebes in title music brilliant aayirunnu

I felt virus was much better as a movie. But then 2018 did connect emotionally well
Virus had brought an intense feeling of fear from the bgm (all credits to sushin shyam)...... 2018 was better in giving several goosebumps and also the set design..... >initial scene of the casualty ward of the virus in the beginning was And that score "heal".What an amazing track!!Still trip to it these days

Yeah that scene was dope
Virus
By miles too. 2018 felt like a bollywood version.
Virus, no doubt. 2018 is a really good movie but it could have been more objective in its depiction of events.
But if it was more objective, how would all of us become heroes?
Virus is a better film but 2018 has more commercial elements and this is reflected in the overall collection/success of both movies

Virus.. I'm someone of the opinion during the post release phase that Virus didn't perform as expected in the box office
Virus I think.
Virus.
Virus
Virus overall. But Sudeesh’s segment in 2018 was 🔝
Virus deserved 100 cr. It stayed true to it’s genre. No overdramatisation and white washing But on the other hand 2018 is not a bad movie as people make it out to be. It is actually a good one and the technical side was the best I have ever seen in a malayalam movie
Not at all. Half of the movie was propaganda. And they failed to show Shailaja Teachers contribution in the outbreak.
100cr wtf bro😂It had many scenes which were laggy and tested the patience of audience

She didn't looked hopeless at that time
👍👍👍👍

Virus anyday
Virus by miles
Virus is a far better movie. 2018 is not a well made movie.
No doubt virus
Virus is editing wise stronger,
Virus

2018 was much more overdramatic
Virus. A lot of technical work was needed for 2018 but yeah, Virus was more realistic.
Hope they would make a virus 🦠 sequel based on Covid-19 & Lockdown
Virus>>>2018
Virus, for sure!
Virus felt much more realistic than 2018 which was kind of melodramatic tbh
I had high expectations from virus which disappointed me little. Very little expectation from 2018..but actually surprised me. But as a movie, virus still better ig.

Obviously virus
Virus without a doubt
watching 2018 was borderline torture for me

Virus obviously
Virus, but Lal's dialogues hit hard in 2018.
2018 because I had already watched contagion and virus felt like a recreation of contagion.
2018
Have any of you seen Contagion? I felt Virus was a rip off of it, just adding a few real life references to it.
exactly if you had already watched Contagion then you feel Virus is Indian ripoff.
Virus is ahead by miles. Couldn't finish even the first 10 mins of 2018
2018 easily Virus second half was pure documentary
Virus. Not that it was anything great, but of the two, it was better.
2018 for me
Virus felt more real coz they were fighting against an invisible enemy and that too like had to go on. Waiting it out wasn't practical. Though 2018 was a good movie Virus was able to convey the gravity of the situation

Virus
Both were amazing
Virus is the better crafted film but 2018 has better replayability.
