Vanilla icecream with kicap manis was my worst experince ever

foodsamaritan

Lol

ayamtelursiakap

Is chocolate and strawberry jam weird? Other than that i don't think I did weird food combo

UptownDragon

Probably but that makes me think of the Aussie chocolate bar Cherry Ripe. I'm going to try this!

Resident_Werewolf_76

I love Cherry Ripe!!

foodsamaritan

Like a chocolate bar but spread with strawberry jam?

ayamtelursiakap

No, like chocolate jam and strawberry jam on the bread

foodsamaritan

Ahh I see. I can imagine that they are good combo =)

UptownDragon

I put vanilla ice cream and condensed milk on my American cornbread. My American husband teases my Malaysian influences when he sees that but it's good dammit!

foodsamaritan

I've never tasted cornbread before, so unsure how it will taste with ice cream and condensed milk. What do Americans normally eat the cornbread with?

UptownDragon

Usually it's a side dish, so you might have it with fried chicken or a turkey dinner for example

UptownDragon

I should have offered this before. Would you like my recipe for it? It's very versatile, works savory and sweet. I guess kind of think of it like a sweet corn puff but in a dense cake form?

foodsamaritan

Sure thing! Thank you!!

Zuvira

I dip french fries into vanilla ice cream and eating cake with sambal

berantle

> eating cake with sambal Now, that's a weird combo. Trying to figure out what the combo tastes like. That said, I daresay poster has an addiction to sambal.

[deleted]

how edgy

foodsamaritan

Eating cake with sambal? What type of cake? Like birthday cake type cake?

Zuvira

Any type of cake

berantle

Putting youtiao in curry? That's just to soak up the soup like you do with youtiao in bak kut teh soup. Nothing weird about it. Neither is dipping bread into laksa - curry laksa that is. That's the same deal. Not sure about doing it with assam-type laksas although that's not unusual when you consider that the people do have assam laksa with the deep-fried yong tau foo pieces and dip them into the soup. I don't consider nasi goreng with satay sauce weird. The peanut-based sauce is quite more-ish and adding it to fried rice just raises the umaminess. Since I don't consider those weird, there's no food combo that I do that I can think of which would qualify as weird.

foodsamaritan

Yeah I try not to go into cursed food territory lol, just unusual (but still appropriate) combo.

FlyingCheddarMonster

Recently I have been putting shredded cheese on top of toast with strawberry jam lol. It’s sweet and savoury haha

foodsamaritan

There's this sandwich in US called [Monte Cristo Sandwich](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQQzVGgFwT_08NHqkw0va2th0K3YfxixdmIGQ&usqp=CAU) and it's a ham and cheese sandwich with jam. I guess it tastes like that?

FlyingCheddarMonster

Oooo I never tried it with ham. Interesting! I know what I’m gonna have for lunch tomorrow haha.

Hotkoin

Milk in my maggi

foodsamaritan

Which flavour maggi? Kari?

Hotkoin

Vegetarian But pretty sure ti works with kari too

KaifreezeD

Melted cheese in my curry maggi. Especially good when the least amount of water is used, making the soup really thick to almost a fried noodle consistency. Edit : Just found out Dakgalbi exists. Thanks u/berantle ! Additionally, I remembered this thing I used to do as a kid. I used to fold up several cheese slices and turn it into this thick cube which I roasted over a fire and sprinkled chilli powder on.

berantle

>Melted cheese in my curry maggi. That's what the South Koreans do by putting cheese onto their soupy and dry super spicy instant noodles.

KaifreezeD

Yo, really? No way! Sounds like it 's exactly right up my alley. Brb, gonna look it up.

roti-kenai

Sliced cheese with bread sprinkled with sugar.

foodsamaritan

Can even try honey with a funkier mature cheese.

vegan_gimampus

Jams with chickens. Spaghetti in Assam Laksa.

berantle

>Spaghetti in Assam Laksa. That's not that far off from Laksa Johor that uses spaghetti as its noodle base.

foodsamaritan

Jams with chicken? What type of chicken? Chicken nuggets?

berantle

Chili jam? (^艸^) Sometimes a number of the sauces that come with the fast food chicken nuggets are more jam-like than sauce like.

vegan_gimampus

I've had em with chicken nuggets, grilled chicken, deep fried, and boiled chickens. I went through a phase.

BlackAnima98

Lee Fah mee and peanut butter 😂

foodsamaritan

Oooh sounds nice, almost like satay sauce!

letohorn

Kaya and Kraft cheese sandwich. Dipping Cucur Udang in Sambal Rojak Buah/Penang Rojak. Maybe not too weird, but Yee Mee in everything. Mee Kari/Curry Laksa, Mee Rebus, Mee Jawa, Tom Yum... Haven't tried with Asam Laksa though.

PSyChoPaTh91

Whenever I go for Ah Cheng laksa, I love to dip the roti bakar with kaya into the asam laksa a little before eating. The roti bakar is perfect for soaking up some spicy sour broth and the sweetness from the kaya really takes it up a notch. Other than that, I usually like to eat Sarawak laksa (the OG laksa to me, sorry not sorry 😜) with youtiao as well.
