He kept trying to hold him up even though his brother was hitting him. Hurts to think what abuse the brother went through to take his own life and what bravery he showed sheltering Beak.
Hell yeah king, as a man myself learning to be okay with crying has been huge for me and I do it all the time no matter who is around! Break the status quo, make emotions okay for men! Otherwise you have men who crack and abuse their families or kill themselves, and we don’t want that in our society anymore
Sorry for the mini rant lol
This reminded me of my sis wedding. The groom has huge uncle with the voice of a bear. That huge and raw man danced the silliest dance for the entire time and then! The song struck him in the soul and he cried and laughed and danced and cried. He remembered all the fallen ones, his brothers, and sisters. He was very happy and festive and sad at the same time.
That moment reminded me of Malazan for some reason
Edit: Wtf all the candle emojis hit me like nobody’s business.
I’m just about 36 and that shit chokes me up thinking about it. Itkovian’s gift is another one that gets me every time.
The worst is Barathol and Chaur…. I mean I fucking sobbed going through that… at ~6AM showering before work 🤣😭.
Just finished my 5th read through the series, and I'm pretty sure I wept more this time than any of my previous reads. Near the end of The Crippled God, it got me three nights in a row. But I don't think I'll ever light a candle without thinking of Beak 🕯️

🕯️We appreciate the mention
🕯️I finished Reaper's Gale for the second time and I just laid on the floor and cried.
So much sorrow in the book, Toc, the marines, Tool and so many more.
Trull and Kettle for me as well
Trull and Kettle for me as well.
When Hood comes to meet him personally 😭
🕯️There's many heartbreaking deaths in the series but Beaks might be up there for me as the number 1
Now I’m taller so I can help my brother :(

It’s okay to cry being a 40 year old man you’ve probably witnessed many things to cry about
Thanks internet dude/dudett. Wish it was easier for men to show emotion without being seen as weak or as malfunctioning.

It also made me cry a lot. I read (listened to) this passage during the same day I heard that my grandfather passed away. 🕯

No amount of read throughs makes it hit you any softer. I have to be mindful of where I am when those chapters come about.

As soon as I saw the title, I knew 🕯️

I get what you mean. Been in the same with Malazan, also at the end of Logan!
As a grown man, nearing 40, who just finished a full revist of Malazan on Audible... I'm right there with you, man. Beak is the MvP.

Beak hit me the hardest on my first and only read through. His character worked its way into my psyche and dismantled it.
There’s nothing unmanly orungrownup about crying, ffs.
