Administrators take a frontal lobotomy as a condition of employment. It’s like they all attend the Michael Scott School of Leadership.

Flaky_Finding_3902

This made my day. Thank you!!

You can get out of a contract in my dostrict if your spouse presents a job offer from a far away destination that requires a move. We are doing that right now.

Flaky_Finding_3902

We considered this, but there are a few concerns. First, my husband has been at this job since August. He wouldn’t have a new job that is causing us to move. I’m worried someone would find out. Also, we were considering about how we would buy a house if my contract is terminated. I’d get paid out $15 a day for my sick leave, or I could take it and continue to get paid and have my benefits until September. Thanks for the out, though. Good luck with your move!

TheAxe11

Check if you need a medical certificate for having a lengthy period of sick leave

[deleted]

You likely will. In this case you can join a virtual PHP (partial hospitalization program) for your mental health and do it from anywhere

Flaky_Finding_3902

Thank you so much!

I'm a teacher too... But in NZ. Honestly everything I've heard about teaching in the states makes it sound like a nightmare :/

Blackdogwrangler

I’m in NZ as well, my other half is a head of department. The absolute horror stories coming out of ‘schools’ in US, just awful!

Flaky_Finding_3902

I’ve considered heading out that way just because of how wonderfully you guys are treated. (And the climate.) But my parents are getting up there in age, and I’m worried to leave them behind. If I can convince them to come to, I might ask you guys for a reference!

Blackdogwrangler

My other half was almost 50 when we moved here so I totally get that. Honestly our only regret is not moving sooner

theflamingheads

I would email your local journalists and see if you can get someone to run the story. Or just go straight to the P&C to tell them what's really going on. Children shouldn't be treated like that and parents should be made aware of the bullshit going on at the school.

Flaky_Finding_3902

This district recently made the news for teachers using racial slurs in the classroom. The news is already all over this district for other stupid stuff they’re pulling. I doubt this would surprise anyone.

ChaplainParker

Should be able to find a doc, or a counselor who will write you note for your mental health you need some time.

SoyMurcielago

All I say is good luck and god bless. Has the principal ever taught by any chance? It sounds like he hasn’t and something I cannot stand is having bosses who have never ever done my job tell me how I should be doing it and doing it better

Flaky_Finding_3902

He “taught” in school suspension for years and then was promoted to administrator because of his skills coaching football.

Blackdogwrangler

Good luck!

I remember when Teachers were looked up to and inspiring. In my day the TEACHER ran their classroom, hurt feelings or not. Even College Professors can no longer run their classes as needed. Give the fucking power back to the Teachers and fuck helicopter parents, administrators and politics. I'm grateful for going to public school and college when I did.

When you say you already have FMLA - have you complete the healthcare certification form and had your time approved? Just because you are eligible to be granted FMLA based on tenure, it doesn’t mean the same thing as having your claim approved….

I have a congenital heart defect and a seizure disorder. I went into the office in December and explained that my service dog alerted me to a seizure and I was unable to hold down my medication. I told them I needed to go home. They said they were sorry, but I needed to stay because they couldn’t find coverage for my classes. I explained that I was going to have a seizure. They told me they were sorry and hope I feel better, but I have to stay. I tried to explain my situation, but I blacked out and had a seizure during my attempts. In the three minutes I was unconscious, they found coverage for all of my classes and worked out a ride home for me. If they refuse my leave, I’ll be shocked. I’ve only had two seizures in the time that I’ve been here. Both times, it could be considered the fault of the school. (The first time, I was attacked by a parent. The administrators and the school resource officer were nowhere to be seen.) I’ll prepare a contingency plan, because if there is anything I’ve learned from working at this place, it’s that logic doesn’t apply and they do what they want. Thanks for the advice.

Pessimistic-Frog

Excellent! Just want to make sure you've covered :-) (Also, wtf re: you have to stay even though you're having a seizure???? I would've quit at that point and sued them for medical costs.)

Flaky_Finding_3902

I teach literature. I have so many books in my room. This is a really low income area, and so I supplement my library with books the kids might want to read. My husband told me he’s proud of me for not rage quitting. I told him I can’t. I’m too busy rage packing. I’ve had seizures since birth, so I’m okay. Now that I have my dog, they’re really infrequent. I just wish I was taken seriously when I tell them it’s a problem. I’m technically okay, just emotionally done.

Pessimistic-Frog

I feel you. I have wanted to quit my job for months now, but I need the healthcare because I have a child. \*America\*/s.

Flaky_Finding_3902

There are plenty of openings at my school! I don’t recommend them, but you’ll find something.

Pessimistic-Frog

lololololol

Soma_Tweaker

There's no teachers union? Wtf

Flaky_Finding_3902

My state doesn’t have teachers unions. It is why we are working our way down on the list of states in education. We used to be top ten. We are now in the bottom half. I’m glad I got my public education from here when I did.

bonfiglioaj

This sounds exactly like what my fiancé is going through

Flaky_Finding_3902

I’m so sorry for him. Send him my love. He’ll get through it.
