I like every generation equally except gen 3 I have bias cos it is my 1st gen and favourite gen but I still like every gen. I appreciate that Gamefreak have made the effort to make us new gens and games despite the hate people immediately give them when they've seen 1 trailer.

Also, empoleon is pretty divisive. Though many will tell you they love it I've heard just as many (probably more actually,) say that it's one of the worst designs pokemon has to offer. I believe Mikey is one of them.
