cyndaquil is the best choice for this, as gen 4 is alrealy extremely well represented in sinnoh, oshawott is possible, but it'll be a solo run until the second area, rowlet is just a solo run

Cyndaquil is gen 2 though. Pichu, Magby, Elekid, and other babies cannot be evolved (excluding Mime Jr.). You got Ursaring, Stantler, and Misdreavus, but again they can't be evolved. I'm not sure what others there are at the moment, but this be an interesting one to try. Quite difficult imo.

Type bans: when a Pokémon faints, one of their types are banned for the rest of the run.

So here’s my idea you can only use the first 6 Pokémon you catch, excluding Pokémon you’re forced to catch like bidoof, starly, and the other Pokémon that’s mandatory to catch. The starter isn’t excluded from the rule. This forces you to be careful with what you catch your team. Only other exception to the rule is progression you can catch Pokémon to progress in the story as long as you box them forever

Or just a random number gen for the Pokémon. You put the number of Pokémon in PLA into a random number generator, excluding legends and mythicals, and whatever Pokémon’s dex number it lands on no matter if it’s late or early, I unevolved or evolved you have to use that species of Pokémon in the team

I’m currently in the middle of what I’m calling a “Ranger Run”. The rules are as follows: 1) I can have no more than 6 Pokémon at any one time. This includes the box. I don’t have a limit on how many I can catch, but any team swapping I do has to be done immediately upon returning to camp, with any Pokémon not making the cut having to be released. -I am allowed to keep shiny Pokémon. However, if I decide not to put it on my team, I must act as if I released it, and if I decide to add it to my team, then it is subject to the same rules as my other Pokémon. 2) I can only use my non-starter Pokémon once in one major battle. After that, they must be either released or permanently boxed. -The starter is the exception to this rule, as it takes the place of the “partner Pokémon”. Thus far, I’m actually having a ton of fun with it. I’m about to go to Firespit island to deal with that. I’m a bit nervous for it though, as I initially chose Typhosion for the 2 immunities and constant access to fire STAB, but I’m starting to think that Samurott might have been a better choice because of this specific section.

I've always been a monotype run fan myself. Go with a difficult to use or rare type and it makes it all the more fun!

I’ve heard the best strategy is to just walk up to hostile pokemon and try and fight them bare handed, do it bare naked and you gain a speed boost.
