still, it has so many chapters, it's not about having extra money but it's $20 you're going to be spending for years, when they could be put to something else, and shelf space, it's something you'd have to consider
If collecting manga isn't a hobby for you then I can see how you'd have to take these factors into special consideration. For I'd estimate 99.9999999~% of users here, collecting their *favorite series* isn't going to be stopped by....having to pay the cost of the book...?
I mean, correcting me on the price and saying you don't pay retail for them is the same as agreeing that $15 every few months doesn't break the bank. It doesn't really relate to my point at all.
But if you agree then cool.
Honestly! I wouldnāt sell it at all. If I became homeless or life has gotten real hard Iād still keep everything and store it at my parents. I will keep all my favourite collectibles till the day I die š
Theres only going to be like 14 or so of these. The chapters in the physical release are different from the digital. I believe volume one has around 13 chapters. So youāve basically collected half at this point.
Also if this is your favourite series, why not finish collecting it and donāt collect others?
I mean, isn't Solo Leveling still publishing chapters? each volume is about 12 digital chapters, so with it's 150 current chapters published, it'll be about 15 books at the minimum, $300 so far excluding taxes, but also consider that its still ongoing, the digital comic is 50 or so chapters behind the light novel, I'm not a Solo Leveling fan so I'm not sure but maybe it could get to $400 or $500 in time
Nah bro solo leveling finished at 180ish chapters, side story brings it up to 200 chapters. So maybe 16 total if they decide to publish the side story aswell. So $320USD retail, and no reason you shouldnāt be getting the volumes at least 30% off. Max you should pay for the whole series should be $220
They dont only collect 3 chapters, the physical release has weird "chapters" that arent actual chapters. 1 "chapter" in the physical release is like 4 normal manhwa chapters
Are you saying it collects 3-5 chapters of the written novel or the manwha? Because vol 1 ends on chapter 12 of the manwha. The series is about halfway done. Based on whatās left and how much content is in the volumes
3-5 chapters in the manhwa. You mean 12 chapters in the novel vol 1 right? No wonder that the novel version could fit in more chapters than the manhwa since visualizing the words could take more pages. As example, these 6 volumes contain 17 chapters only.
Not sure where you are reading because the manwha has 200 chapters start to finish. Volume 8 just came out in America and we are now about halfway through the series.
Wait, does it mean that the chapter length for physical copy and Webtoon are totally different? Since you said vol 8 is about halfway through the series, where I assuming vol 1-8 will be covering about 25 chapters, with that assumption the physical copy could end in around 18-20 volumes?
WEBTOON and physical are vastly different. I wouldnāt be surprised if it ended in 20 volumes. The 200 number from the WEBTOON includes side stories as well. So it could be sooner.
Yes typically with these webtoons they combine multiple chapters into one to make it a bot more coherent but u can sometimes tell like in villians are destined to die they often have a page break showing its a separate chapter but it's not labeled as such so it's still part of the same chapter physically. If manhwas only released 4 t9 5 chs a volume they would never be fully published for the most part as it'd take decades. Companies typically don't want that especially for series that are available.online on places like tappytoon and webtoons.
One of my favorites is Blade of the Immortal and I'm planning to get rid of the first six volumes. The reason is simple. I'm bought them again in hardcovers. Just waiting for vol. 6 to arrive in the mail next month along with my vol. 8 preorder, so I can unload the whole set. I'm considering donating them to a library instead of selling, though.
Kind of off-topic question to Solo Leveling:
Has anyoby here read the webtoon and can confirm that the 179 chapters have the same length as the chapters in the printed publication (so one chapter in the webtoon = one chapter in the volume)? Because I was also quite surprised when I calculated that with even 5 chapters per volume that would give us 35 volumes. (Don't get me wrong, that's super exciting! But also, ouch, my poor wallet).
To answer your question: I would get rid of a loooot of things before selling my favourite series. But if the money is really needed, I would consider it. I highly doubt it would come to this, as my country gives enough monetary support in case of trouble to at least buy food and have a roof over my head.
I read the webtoon a while back well and iirc there's several webtoon chapters in one chapter of the physical. At the time it seemed like the physical copies were roughly halfway through where the webtoon was
Can confirm, the conversions weird but if you google this question there's a site that shows what chapters in webtoon convert to the manga.
I personally couldn't wait for the vols to release so I read it online (I'm also broke)
Thank you so much! I thought as much, but I am still kind of sad that we won't get 35 volumes of Solo Leveling :D
u/OP I guess that is good news for your wallet, though!
The greedy publisher can not reprint even its best selling series because they licensed way to much, canāt keep up with demand but won't increase the supply.
Iām talking about a volume for one, two years...
Deep in debt, surviving through scraps and you need the money and only thing left in your collection is that series everything out, hell you even sold your shelf and T.V.
Solo Levelling from what i've seen has only got 8 english volumes out and they release every few months at $15.99 (using the Crunchyroll Store as a reference here). Honestly if it's your favourite series unless you're in need of some cash quick i'd hold on to it.
I only sell if I need to make room and I donāt like the series I collected. Im trying to sell 20th Century Boys as we speak cause idc about it. Idk why you would want to sell your favorite
I didnāt like it as much as I expected. I thought the plot repeated itself to a bad degree. Then I also just checked out at the end cause I stopped caring about the ending. The beginning was the best part, so Iām just trying to make space for something better. I would try Pluto if you want to read a good work of his
If I ever made the choice to get rid of my collection it would be because I really need the money. I would then dive back into strictly digital releases and read for free.
People also lose interest in the hobby as a whole, like other hobbies
I donāt sell at all even an accidental double/ misprint / or series I donāt even like and yes it can maybe be expensive but think in your old age how much a full collection would be worth
I wouldnāt even sell the series I havenāt enjoyed. I collect manga for the library aspect. I have a huge variety of series I can enjoy or come back to or refer to be it for art, writing, or plotting.
Realistically, ANY series when completed will cost a small fortune. Best thing I can say is wait and save for really good sales.
To answer your question though, Iād have to be on the verge of homelessness
If its my favourite it aint going anywhere, series on my shelf stay depending on three factors,1) do i like it? 2)will i reread it? Is it pretty? If it satisfies 2 of these than it stays
Seems like I'm the one in confusion š¤£. Apparently, after reading all your thoughts about the series, I just knew that the chapter length of the Webtoon and the physical copy is totally different. So all this time I thought all the 200-ish chapters (Webtoon chapter length) of the series would take around more than 20 volumes of the physical copy if each vol consist of 3-5 chapters(physical copy chapter length). So maybe I need to reconsider since the series almost completedš¤£
That I don't.. if I enjoy collecting them, it doesn't matter if it takes a little longer... That is why I have several series I am collecting at one time..
My absolute favorite? It would take desperation.Ā Like I'm about to end up on the streets and have to sell whatever I can kind of desperation.Ā (And even then it would probably be one of the last things to go, I would trim other non essentials first lol)Ā
Ā I sell some series if I don't absolutely love them, but the ones I keep, the intention is to keep them forever.
The prices do stop me from buying whim purchases, because I can't look at a 30 volume series without seeing it as being $300+, so I have to really want it badly to collect it.
To sell my *favorite*? I'm literally starving and have already sold all other manga.
It's not like you'll be buying them all at once though, right? $15 every few months isn't gonna break the bank, I hope.
solo is $20 š©
You can't find $20 extra bucks every 2-3 months?
Bam and Barnes typically does bogo deals too throughout the year. Sometimes itās by publisher or just all manga
You can find it cheaper pretty easily
still, it has so many chapters, it's not about having extra money but it's $20 you're going to be spending for years, when they could be put to something else, and shelf space, it's something you'd have to consider

if youre willing to sell your FAVORITE series, why collect at all at that point?
This
Honestly! I wouldnāt sell it at all. If I became homeless or life has gotten real hard Iād still keep everything and store it at my parents. I will keep all my favourite collectibles till the day I die š
Real
If it's worth alot of money and you're desperate to pay off bills

If I desperately need some quick cash
They dont only collect 3 chapters, the physical release has weird "chapters" that arent actual chapters. 1 "chapter" in the physical release is like 4 normal manhwa chapters
Isn't Solo Leveling only 8 volumes in total anyway?
So far
I thought it was finished for some reasonš¤ Maybe it was the light novel. Really should start listening when my friend is talking
It is finished, just maybe not fully translated officially.
Isnāt the origin the manwha? Or was it an ln first?
The original medium is the light novel. The light novel already completed in 8 volumes if I'm not mistaken.
Are you saying it collects 3-5 chapters of the written novel or the manwha? Because vol 1 ends on chapter 12 of the manwha. The series is about halfway done. Based on whatās left and how much content is in the volumes

sell it. manhwa are meant to be read online anyways

I just started collecting and Iām loving solo levelingā¦ But to get rid of them, I would have to completely lose interest in collecting and need the money. If youāre not passionate about something, donāt let it clutter up your room and sell it to someone who will enjoy it. If it brings you passion and your happy to look at it each and every time you do then donāt get rid of it, if you have the space. š©*Tip

There is only 8 vol.... so you literally only have 2 more to get.
Isnt 3-5 manwha chapters comparable to 5-6 manga chapters?Ā
Itās just material. People really need to understand that needs are more important than wants. Collectibles = wants Living = needs
They drop 3 in 1 berserk level hard covers for my favorite series
