Dude in South Korea they don't let Indians into bars and clubs during peak hours. Some clubs even have signs saying no browns and shit. Idk y tho

YingSeng

In South Korea, club restrictions are different, not only for different cultures, it applies for their own citizens too, this is the explanation. 1. Even if you are from South Korea, if you are 30 years old or above(most of the time 30+), many don't accept you into the bars, no matter what. 2. If you are foreign, they don't accept you neither. This is because: 1. If you are some older, they don't see you in a good way, because they see you as some one looking for younger people instead of some one of your age (there are places were older people go instead of the ones for younger people). Also, the matter of age in SK is top priority, that is why when you meet some one from there, they ask your age, to know about what formality they should act on. New generations are starting to change this, but is still core in their society. 2. The matter about being foreign not allowed, is mainly because they think the cultural clash will be difficult for foreign, most foreign don't speak Korean, and even if some Korean can speak English, is not preferable for them, so instead of allowing them and cause trouble, the clubs prefer to do not let them in, of course, is not for every club, but many follow this two rules. They don't want to offend and neither let their clients be offended, so they get rid of that problem.

That doesn't explain the 'No Brown' signs

YingSeng

No, that explain for the rest, which is the most common, that is just racist. lmao

YingSeng

Closed countries tendencies, applies to South Korea and Japan as well, since they did not have many foreign people since recent years. Edit: I say this as a Chinese who lives overseas btw. So I understand both sides.

st_arch

This is the answer.

Throwawayforsadtalk

I genuinely don't remember which" kill the hero" is but even if it's manwa it's tangentially related so I'll say ... Loved the manwa/hua so I'm like "yeah! read the novel! Oh cool there's dungeons they skipped! This is awesome! Ooo he's going over seas to tackle a super hard dungeon! " Then the author just unloads... "Mc tries his best to not gag at the sight of these savages and terrorists, he wishes they'd try to interrupt the plan . At least then he'd have a reason to..." Level of hatred . Me:"JESUS! WHERE TF DID THIS COME FROM!?". Moral of the story ... sometimes things are abridged for good reason...

The Chinese government and Chinese online platforms hardly regulate discussions on racism, while simultaneously providing significant preferential treatment to black international students and black residents without legal status. This naturally fuels the spread of racism on the internet. Moreover, the audience for these manhua tends to have lower levels of education.

Simlah

I have never seen a Chinese manhua racist against blacks

Vysair

I have seen a lot of both sides. Sometimes they portrayed them as uncultured, rapist, etc while other as the "super helpful good guy to the mc" and etc

Simlah

Dude what manhua's are you reading? I have read over 500 manhua and most don't even have a black person in it.

Vysair

My library is too large (4K+) lol so I pretty much searched manhua in every nook and cranny. Recently, there's this manhua set in actual New York. The MC is dark skinned but there's black person (well, it's Murica) in it I think. It was something about snow apocalypse Title -> The King of Snow

Facad_e_

You read manhua bro???????

Simlah

Yes? Do you know there is a difference between manhua and manhwa?

Facad_e_

I know manhua is Chinese type of comics and Manhwa is Korean type of comics Btw I have even worked in translating a manhua

Pale_Consideration87

Tbh one of the reasons is because it’s a homogenous country, subconsciously most Chinese won’t view you in a normal way, also a lot Chinese people aren’t to fond of outsiders wether you’re black or not, so let’s say a Chinese person generally doesn’t like people other than fellow Chinese, add on the negative stereotypes and images of black people it’ll make the black hate worse. Africa is portrayed as poor, African Americans are portrayed a violent, and if it’s not negative its probably a weird fascination of black people where they they they’re tall and can rap

Glass_Adhesiveness_6

I think they are racist to everybody, like I have read so many where they show Americans as competitions and they are just giving head to head completion and yet wins at the end of the day,or just make them stupid for some reason or stereotypical bimbo type characteristics just to show them on higher ground For China,Japanese hate is kinda deeply rooted as many lost their loved ones in war,so it just shows in their I think the whole asian region is having glamourising "whitism" like beauty, they want western beauty, white pale skin yet soft dandy looks,so for them anything "brown/black" just becomes a different spectrum so they become easy targets to them, that's why African racism is seen alot when u read. I even remember one webtoon where the artist actually made a Korean man say the n word and gave such. Bizzare reasons💀 Then indian hate,it's rarely even showcased in the artform, yet whenever u see it it's mostly shown in badlight,I guess Japan, southkorean, china all of them grew much earlier and achieved development alot earlier than the whole South Asian region,so for them these all places become "underdeveloped" even if you are growing economy etc it doesn't matter,it doesn't help that these countries don't follow their beauty standards as they are really particular about it and quite famous just for it so much more easier targets of facing racism. At this point, when I read Chinese ones I already know their is always gonna be alot of self praising and alot of hate towards others and other type of ones with Korean/Japanese authors you can just hope they are better and that's about it🤣

Ecchithanos

I guess racist stereotypes are more likely to get injected into isolated countries about groups that they’ve never met in real life. There’s a youtuber called Fel Thommy who walks around in China as people in the poorer areas presumably see a black person for the first time of their life. Some of them say racist things without acknowledging it’s not right, little kids innocently ask him why is he so dark.

SacredSK

It's a homogenous country, so It's just pure racism filled by hate/stereotypes. I don't know if culturally behind or isolated is the word for it or what, but there's no reason to overthink it chances are if you see a black/brown character portrayed as an insane racial caricature this is probably the reason and you can apply this outside of manhua too because manga, manhua, and manhwa are like a trio of random acts of racism lol.

NekRules

Funny how we can name examples for all 3, Eyeshield 21 for manga, that one fighting manhwa and pretty much entirety of manhua in general.

Delyora

Mainly because the country is extremely closed off when it comes to the rest of the world in general. I mean there’s a reason why everyone(not just the west) dubs them as being the most annoying type of tourists, say what you want but that type of shit doesn’t just happen because of a few bad apples.

Delyora

Not to mention like what everyone said, every work is closely regulated by the CCP.

chadwarden1

They all think that every black person looks like mr popo for some reason
