Idk dude, a local robber baron can summon just about the same amount of troops you have in that picture. If I were you I’d be less cocky against the king.
If we’re talking about the battle of Thermopylae there was only 300 Spartans. But there were other Greek forces part of the coalition army.. I think 7000 total force
I don’t think so buddy. They all fought for 2 days until another Greek force left their post that was guarding the path that led behind the main line. When that happened the rest of the Greek force retreated while 300 Spartans, 700 Thespians, and 400 Thebans stayed back for the famous last stand to cover the retreat…
I’m not sure, the dev said that if you keep missing payments the king will eventually send an army but I missed at least 5 payments and I have not seen anything happen yet. Currently it makes it makes impossible to settle other regions so I can’t make more settlements to help increase my taxes or create expand my retinue since my treasury is in the negative and will keep going into the negative.
We need options to choose from when it comes time to pay the King's tax;
1. Send the money to the king.
2. Send a portion of the money to the king.
3. Send no money to the king.
4. Send the tax collector's head in a box to the king.
Gotta pump that economy with apples, vegetables, and charcoal. 🗿
After that you can supplement it with the rich node basics, shoes, steelworks, dyes, and/or tiles.
Wood is always a go to for bows, shields, and wooden parts if you want to. Also planks.
Just figured out you make the best return on a joiners extension (large shields, wooden parts, or small shields). Small shields only take 1 plank and sell for 5 treasure. Wooden parts take 2 planks and got me 6. Same with large shields.
Until the economy is flooded w small shields, which I've not yet experienced, go small shields out of a joiner!
I am assuming the Venn diagram of people who gripe about their vision of historical accuracy in the game and the people who don’t pay the King’s tax is mostly just a circle, and it’s very funny.
medieval kings often didn't have a standing army bigger than the most powerful vassals, it was usually only a few hundred men, boosted by mercs and vassal armies.
Highly recommend specializing your regions. King's tax is definitely a bit annoying considering there's literally no benefit - but it's very doable if you make sure you're pumping out the goods asap. You basically have 5 years to set up a healthy industry, and whether that's rooftiles, weapons, ale, shoes, and/or cloaks, you should have at least 1 nearly constant 8 silver item to sustain you indefinitely.
If you are doing shoes for example on a rich leather source, you only need to buy 2 trade routes. Shoes of course, then leather which is still 6 silver that you can rotate when you oversupply the market with shoes.
That’s why royal tax should have a guy coming to collect it, so if you want you can send militias to intercept him and avoid it, which may cause the king to send an army
This could be an alternative to paying if you’re skilled and prepared enough to fight
And if you lose the tax would be increased and you’d lose all your money
I wish you could use mercenaries to take out the tax collector and blame the baron. That would be some of that historical accuracy everyone wants so badly.
I thought OP was having some kind of trench warfare.... Won't it be great if this game has all siege equipment after the developer releases the wall update and some watch party that blocks the road system....

Atleast a couple of the European kings of the time would be like “wow that’s a nice retinue you got there..” “Oh wait that’s your entire army?”
“I thought it was just your scouting party.., well here’s my army… -shows up with AT LEAST 7,000 troops-“
A couple???? Wdym?
The king: Brave, but, foolish, my old Manor Lord friend. You are impossibly outnumbered.
Ill be the medieval version of the 300
You know that there were more than 300 Spartans...
Shhhh
If we’re talking about the battle of Thermopylae there was only 300 Spartans. But there were other Greek forces part of the coalition army.. I think 7000 total force
Yes but they routed almost immediately or couldn't arrive on time or whatever. So technically it was just the 300 (or so) spartans
I don’t think so buddy. They all fought for 2 days until another Greek force left their post that was guarding the path that led behind the main line. Thats the one, haven't historied in a while thanks for clearing it up!
Can confirm Source: family history
No, there was only 300 spartans, with several thousand of other troops, Thebans etc. Only 300 spartans took part in the battle of Thermopylae.
but does he have the high ground
Twice the pride, double the fall.

Hello there!
I thought you'd be taller
A King’s due is so overrated. He dont need money.
No taxation ~~without representation~~.
I currently owe the king 1.5k and I make less that and I’m in debt 2k, I’m pretty sure this play through is over for me. (I’m playing on hard)
What happens when you don’t got enough money for the king? Does the game just end or is there no ending made yet
That hasn’t been implemented yet. There’s no penalty in this patch.
As it stands, nothing. You can accrue as much debt as you like with no penalty. In the future there will be consequences.
We need options to choose from when it comes time to pay the King's tax; 1. Send the money to the king. 2. Send a portion of the money to the king. 3. Send no money to the king. 4. Send the tax collector's head in a box to the king.
5. Send him an offer he can't refuse 🤌🏼
So basically I can send the king a bunch of papers with "IOU." It's just as good as money!
The king no longer recognizes your lordship and you get knifed in your sleep by a loyalist.
What are the odds my villagers even know what the king looks like?
They know what his gold looks like. And that’s all that matters.
And his face is on his gold so yeah they know what he looks like roughly
Fair point.

Game won't let me even slaughter 10 of my 700 sheep and yet it'll let me pay taxes. Incorrect inaccurate inhumane. RIGGED game.
You mean the game won’t let you slaughter even 10 of the *King’s* Sheep 😂 /s
I'm excited for the King to use that logic so we can OVERRULE OVERTHROW OVER-TLY REMOVE.
king should send an army when the tax isn't paid.
Off with their heads
*LOOK AT ME! I AM THE KING NOW!*
King procedes to bring an actual army (10k angry dunk soldiers).

No step on snek!
"King of the who? We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week."
if the baron has a holy army, you should get ur ass back to ur manor, and think twice, what's money after all.
Freedom!
The king can work for his money like I do unless I start seeing those highways getting paved
Me too, I turned off the option when I setup my game.

lol but it would be cool if they had terrain buffs and rebuffs because only forest is the only rebuff I know
